So if I was to ask for a 45watt quad core would any resellers be willing to sell me one inside a W110er and would it still be warranty eligible?
-
Depends, ask around.
Personally if the 3612QM is not available I'm going for the fastest dual core IVB available. Trying to keep the CPU at 35W. -
Sandy Bridge CPU's are very powerful, Ivy Bridge will be even moreso. Unless you plan on doing a lot of video encoding or any significant number crunching, I don't see the need for a 45W CPU. It will only degrade battery life and add extra heat.
-
You will need a stronger power supply if you intend to go 45W CPU.
The standard one is 90W... -
Will a 13.3 inch ever be available? I took a look at the 11.6 inches they have available, and it seems a bit too small. Its a shame the 14 inch doesn't have a dedicated video card.
Might end up buying this anyways though :/ -
Yeah, I don't know what the hell Clevo is thinking. 11.6" is the last thing I expected from them. 13" would be the ideal machine. But maybe 660m was still too high overall TDP, and they could manage the 650m in an 11.6" so they decided to. I dunno. They likely could have had GDDR5 in a 13" however. I'll be curious to see performance difference between the M14x 650m with GDDR5 vs this one with DDR3 vRAM.
-
Would the performance between the two be that significant?
Wouldn't it only make a difference when going with a higher resolution? I know you get twice the bandwith with GDDR5 but I will admit I'm sort of clueless when it comes to how much a diffrence it would actually make. -
I doubt there's a big difference in performance at native (768p) res. gddr3 suits this laptop because at such a small size and resolution, gddr5 would just be waste of money anyway.
-
I never documented results (wished I had) but when I was looking for an AMD 15" notebook, I tried the Asus K53TA with 6650m with DDR3 and HP DV6z with 6750m with GDDR5. GPU specs identical but performance of the 6750m in the DV6z was a good 10-15% faster even at 768p in Battlefield 3.
-
If I'm reading this right, the i7-3612QM will be able to clock RAM at 1600mhz? Looks like I might have a reason to get a 16GB @1600 aftermarket RAM upgrade and get RAM drive going on it.
-
Yes that is correct.
Is IVB out yet? wishful thinking on my part but I heard there might be a early release.
It will be interesting to see what resellers have to offer and how much each CPU will be priced. -
Sites such as pc world and maximum pc are claiming intel has announced their new ivybridge processor, I have not heard from any resellers yet... Hopefully they are busy getting in touch with intel on the details they can share and getting their sites updated
-
Seen that, hopefully we can at least get the NDA out of the way and get more info.
-
It just got announced, notice that there wasn't any good performance numbers revealed
So yes here you go:

Can someone explain what am I missing out with the 3610QM instead of 3612? I checked my local reseller, however I dont have that option. As far as I know 3610 is 45W,I have no idea what the drawback would be other than a slightly bigger power brick.
-
Thanks, now we have something to go buy...going to your site right now.
-
Myth, Will we be seeing the new processors in the configuration page for pre-order or will we need to wait until next monday to see them on the site? I'm assuming call ins are welcome until that point
-
How is this possible?! I've been refreshing the site like hell and all I see are the standard i5 and i7 2nd Gen configs...
I have a question too, if I got for the Killer wireless, would that get rid of the internal bluetooth? Is the best I can have the Intel 6235 if I want internal Bluetooth capability? -
They won't be on our site until next monday, because thats the ad/sale part of the NDA which is next week. But yes we do take call-ins =)
And yes if you want bluetooth you have to get the 6235. -
I see, that's wonderful to hear. I may actually be purchasing from Mythlogic, because I like what's being given, over XoticPC for example. Still trying to make a decision though.
Whats the chance of receiving my laptop before the 15th of May?
. -
I'm in too. I hope SSDs drop in price more substantially by the time I upgrade my bigger laptop.
-
Before the 15th of May? Good, we can do that.
-
Any word on dual core IVB? Or is that still months away.
-
Months away.
-
does a larger compatible power brick exist?
-
So ivy quad is the only one avalible to order now?
-
Yes, the IVB Quad will be the only IVB processor that will be out until the dual cores come out later. Sandy Bridge dual's will be out however.
-
should we see availability this week with sandy cpus? or do we have to wait till Ivy comes out to get this laptop?
-
Yes, if you DONT want the IVB quad core proc then we can get these right now, thats not a problem.
-
so the laptop is available right now if I wanted one with sandy? like you have them in stock?
and how much is the Ivy quad? compared to the i7 sandy dual core? (i7-2640M vs Ivy quad in price)
unless you cant say right now. -
Like if you want one yes with the Sandy Dual core =)
The IVB Quad is going to be about +$25'ish from the 2640m -
How much is a barebones version of this laptop? Sager told me they would sell one for $475, can you come close to that price? (they told me that it will be 2 weeks till they sell them because they are going to test them first before selling them)
so I am surprised that you have them now. I am very anxious, and Ivy cpus will be available monday I take it? I would love to order one of these puppies next week when those come out.(the cpu and barebones laptop) -
We don't do barebones anymore after we had a lot of issues with people building their own so to speak (Please note its not meant as any offense to anyone on here).
And remember not everyone gets their stuff from Sager =)
Ivy will be here Monday. -
You can order barebones from RJTech.com. $499 listed online.
-
so there's no way I could get one without RAM and a Hard drive? I dont need either of those. ( i have a western digital black 500GB, and 2x4GB 1333mhz RAM)
-
Ohh if you already have them, then we can do it without and you can just send us your parts and we can just use them as part of the build.. thats no big deal at all =) No additional charge to do that also.
-
My question is, how much would that knock off the stock price? (like for the RAM and Hard drive?) If I didnt need to buy them?
-
Shoot me a PM and I can get you a price
-
Is the said battery life on this model is with an SSD or the traditional 7200RPM HDD?
If not, will we be able to see a good increase in battery if we switch to a SSD? -
Depends on SSD, but usually the answer is YES SSD's will offer better battery life. Intel and Crucial both have fairly low power consumption.
-
It's not a significant improvement, however.
-
It can be, absolutely can be. 7200RPM drive typically will consume 0.6-1.0W. SSD's can consume as little as 0.1W idle. They can consume up to 3W full load, but they also complete tasks a lot more quickly so it's probably on par or better than a hard drive.
I did a few tests with various SSD's if I can find the results, and gained as much as 45 minutes using the Intel X25M G2 SSD vs. 7200RPM HDD. This is of course most important with laptops that don't consume much power to begin with. 0.5W difference when your laptop idles at 20-25W won't matter. But when your laptop idles at 8-10W then it can become a significant factor. -
Plus SSD is cooler and noiseless
How about if I get "no OS, only format drive" and screen calibration, it is still possible? What difference is those IVYs 1600mhz and 133mhz rams, maybe a little bit of gain for 1600mhz when use iGPU? -
1600 MHz will give you added iGPU performance, and that's about the extent of what you'd notice.
-
I guess Myth will send you the calibration file for your screen, so you can just load it in Windows yourself.
-
HTWingNut: Yes, that difference between 1333mhz and 1600mhz using iGPU is still, nothing, I think?
Prema: I think that too
Myth, can you confirm this?
-
Depends, about 10-15% improvement.
-
Yea if you get it no os we send the benchmark results AND the color calibration on a CD that we include.
-
I think, in general, it's irresponsible to say SSD will gain you a significant amount of battery life over HDD. You cite very specific cases, and while I do not doubt you, there is not a general consensus that SSD saves battery. It's for performance and reliability.
FWIW, I own 4 x Samsung 830 SSDs (soon to be 5
). I've owned Intel and Toshiba SSDs in the past. I no longer use any HDDs in my systems.
