Thanks babyhemi, that's as plain as it comes! But just the way I like it.
-
It's so basic! Now I really can't wait.. Aaahh can the 15th come any sooner!
-
why do you have to wait until the 15th?
-
These machines should ship starting Monday.
-
Yea, sorry about that, a bit of a typo. Just seemed weird to me that a quad core would be cheaper. -shrugs-
Any guestimations on how much the Core i7-3612QM would be? -
according to mythlogic, it will be $25 more than the i7- 2640m
-
Looky Looky what popped up on YouTube!
Thanks Larry!

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
Wow that little machine looks real nice Clevo is finally listening to their customers
-
Can't wait for monday!
which one do you think will be faster in term of assembling the laptop and shipping it? xoticpc or mythlogic? -
Question for Mythlogic:
Any idea when you'll have the Ivy Bridge options for the W110ER? That's all that's holding me back at this point... -

It should have a back lit keyboard and GDDR5 though, but I'll probably end up getting it anyway as I need a small, and light laptop and unfortunately this is the best choice right now. -
Monday the 29th

I find this appropriate.

I've been out of the loop for a while, can anyone tell me which significant card this GDDR3 version GT 650M is comparable to?
-
I think GDDR5 would run much too hot, although it would be wonderful of course. Fortunately, at 1366x768 you're not exactly hammering the VRAM too much and the future of AA is shader-based methods anyway (FXAA, SMAA, MLAA).
I have an Acer 4820TG with an AMD 5650 and DDR3. It's shader-bound in almost every recent game. And for older ones, you can use tools to inject FXAA - which looks nicer than 4x MSAA on many games and uses the shaders - not the VRAM - to do the heavy lifting. We can thank consoles and their wimpy VRAM allotments for this turn of events. -
Between 460m and 560m.
And I'm curious about the GDDR5. Looking in my DV6z, the GDDR5 there has zero cooling, no heatsinks, nothing, and no air moving through there. Perhaps it's just a power draw issue. W110ER comes with 90W PSU, and at full load will probably encroach 80W. Probably would have put it borderline for power requirements. I'll be sure to check power draw when I get mine!
I'm anxious to do a full write up on this bad boy. Should be fun. My kids will hate me for a few days while daddy plays with a new toy. Guess I'll have to buy a new toy for them too to keep them distracted.
This is gonna be expensive, lol.
-
really itching for one now. cant wait to stick linux on it and see how low i can get the power consumption.
-
I find it a little hard to believe that VRAM would have much power draw in comparison to the CPU and GPU.
I think the issue is one of heat. GDDR5 is known to run much hotter than DDR3 (will update with hard info on this - this opinion is based on my recollection of the hundreds of articles I've read on video cards over the years), and every notebook has a maximum thermal rejection ability, above which the thing will just heat up until something throttles, or worse.
I'll try to find some hard justification for this, but I know I've read about it elsewhere. Not using GDDR5 is sometimes a cost-reduction maneuver, but I doubt it in this case. -
Wow, looks great! Just wish it was a little bigger (..what she said)
-
any comparison shots of matte vs glossy LCD?
-
But my point is that there is no cooling on the chips, period. So it wouldn't become part of the system TDP. So it's either power draw or cost. But why would Clevo go through the effort and worry about the minor cost bump. I think it's power. See here (5550 and 5570 with GDDR5 and DDR3):
Power, Temperature, And Noise Benchmarks : Radeon HD 5550 And 5570: Pumped Up With GDDR5
GDDR5 had lower temps, but power draw was about 10% more. Performance of GDDR5 is about 15-20% more FPS in general.
But as far as I'm concerned. Make it a 120W PSU. I don't care!
-
Haha it was the most reasonable date that I could get from the representative I was talking to.
And man, it looks beautiful and so basic. Looks real thin too. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
Yeah that DDR3 is bothering the hell out of me, it's making me think twice about buying this TBH. They shoulda upped the PSU a bit, I highly doubt that making it GDDR5 would have added enough heat hamper the cooling of the laptop itself. But it does hamper the GPU's capability as it will be a significant difference in capability between the GDDR5 version and the DDR3 version. -
If what they say is true that the 650M is = to the 560M it should have no problems playing most games at high/very high settings especially with the res the screen has, pair that with a IVB quad and it will be a pretty potent combo no matter what the performance difference is between GDD5 vs DDR3.
Nice pics and great vid, wish he powered it on, would have loved to see the screen in action besides the Bios, little touches like the not having a glossy screen bezel are very nice too.
Now all we need more info on is how it does handle heat for the GPU and how loud it gets under full load and gaming. -
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
There shouldn't be a significant difference on a low res screen like this one when comparing the two. The card already falls in line with the 560m, which was a pretty decent card in a 15" laptop- let alone an 11". Plus, I bet they'd get more complaints about a monster 120w brick on their ultraportable (there were plenty of complaints about the size of the brick when it was 120w with the 15" models, and the 180w and larger on others). -
LaptopUserExtreme Notebook Consultant
So how big/heavy is the power brick right now? Mine right now is literally brick in size and weight - would hope this one would be smaller.
How much bigger would the GDDR5 have caused it to be? -
Megacharge Custom User Title
So this GT 650M in the W110ER, would it be on par with say, a GTX 280M or something along those lines, or is it better, or worse?
-
GT650m should be better...
But I think its also quite hard to compare.
You have completely different architecture, different DirectX versions, different power usage and a quite old generation 2xx vs ne 6xx
According to notebookcheck.net they are about on par in 3dmark06, GT650m slightly faster.
But see yourself:

Basically DDR3 instead of GDDR5 is an unforgivable mistake. The cheap 15" has gddr5 so why not this one?
-
Damn i thought i made up my mind with the 6165 but after seeing the video i think gaming on this baby is pretty decent! Does anyone know if this badboy be connected to an external monitor or not? Another concern is the heat on this baby compared to the 6165 when gaming. If this baby has no heating issues when on bf3 or dota2 then i think this is a good purchase! Hope we get benchmarks of games and how the heat on this thing is so we can our moneys worth!
Currently:Macbook unibody 13.3 late 2008.
Getting a 6165 or a 6110 by june!
-
You have a CRT out and HDMI out.
I don't see any problem to connect an external screen
-
Hdmi and crt are the same as vga?my friend said that you need vga to connect to an external monitor. Sorry i am really noob at computers! Just want a laptop i can game decently, thats all!

What is vga then? Is crt and hdmi the same as vga??My friend said you need vga to connect to an external monitor. Sorry really noob at computers! I just want a laptop that can game, play bf3 decently. This laptop cuts it but the display is my only concern coming from a 13inch laptop

Just checked Notebookcheck for 650M,the test for BF3 is available. However I cant see what resolution it was played on.(Aspire 771 has a 1600*900,however)
Most likely playable with high/medium mixed.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
And if it can play BF3 on high then most likely any other game that is on the market wont be a problem on this little machine on high details.

It doesn't specify if it was benched on the W110ER's version (DDR3) or the better GDDR5 version. -
Yes but i want to see temps when playing because when the laptop gets hot, gaming/frames per second reduces i am i right? And how is 1024 on a 15 inch screen?not pixelized?

It is specified,GeForce GT 650M, 2048MB DDR3.
*Edit:Click on the FPS number. -
I have heard of a downclocking problem at high temps, but I dont think it will be the case.(Correct me if I am wrong here)Clevo actually pays good attention to its cooling solutions and their machines are usually optimized for gaming.I dont understand why did you ask about 1024 on a 15 inch though? On a 15 inch it wont be as crisp and sharp as a FullHD of course.

That's all I can find, other stuff is GDDR5. -
What if i plug the 6110 on a 15inch monitor?will i still get the same crisp graphics?

That depends on the resolution of the monitor.
-
I'm looking to replace my desktop with something small and powerful, and this looks like the ticket. My desktop is almost six years old and getting slower by the day, so no doubt I'll be blown away by the performance of the NP6110. It looks more than capable of outputting to my 37" monitor, as well, since my husband and I don't have traditional cable TV, just netflix and hulu. I also wanted something I could pick up and carry with one hand, and going by the measurements given, the NP6110 seems to be not much bigger than the crappy netbook I bought two years ago and have regretted ever since.
I'm not much of a gamer anymore, I just want to play Morrowind with all the fancy graphics mods and new renderers that have come out over the years and Skyrim at least on medium. Most of my game catalog comes from GoG, though.
I was also looking at MSI's X460DX, but I don't see any advantage of that over this beyond a larger screen. I'm so glad I heard about the NP6110, as I was basically wanting a powerhouse in a netbook size. And it's budget-friendly, too, as I really can't go above a grand. Now I'm wondering, what's the catch? What's wrong with this notebook, since it seems to be otherwise perfect for my uses?
I definitely can't wait to see what the first group of owners have to say about it!
-
As soon as xotic PC gets ivy bridge and matte screens in stock, this thing should be a quaint replacement for my netbook of 2 years and Desktop of 5.
-
The catch is for people who want more then it can deliver. For them they lament the lack of a non 768p screen. They want more graphics performance so they can drive multiple monitors at once.
For those, like myself, who are looking for a replacement for a low power netbook. It is exactly what we need.
Would a 900p screen be interesting? Yes, but maybe in the next model. I wish this had a eDP screen connector for the built in display instead of LVDS as we'd have a greater selection of screens and some of the high res screens advertised for the next few years would be perhaps backwards compatible for those willing to create their own mounting points. -
So is xoticPC gonna have the matte screen option like mythlogic? do you know any estimated price for that? I really want a matte screen but $100 on mythlogic website is just too much for me
-
You will get what your monitor can offer for you basically. If your monitor supports high resolution for example, you can run the game on a higher resolution of course.
The reason I am getting for this model is actually it is portable, has solid battery life, and offers solid gaming for its size.I was looking into P150EM's with highest end graphical cards, but for the price I would have to pay to get one with a 675M for instance,I could simply build a desktop. So what I am doing is for almost the same price as PxxEM series,I can have one very good portable and a solid desktop.(Thats how the prices are in my local reseller anyway.)And portable Diablo III ftw.
