    Hi,
I did repaste my CPU with CollerMaster 400 with minimal amount of compound and using line method, previously cleaning all previous paste with "ear cleaners" and cleaning tissue.
The temperatures now on battery idle state are barley reaching 60 now with 15x multiplier.

When I play Dota or similar CPU temperature is 80ish with regular games and GPU 70ish.
However when I start BF4 this is sh#t when gots crazy.. CPU temperatures are reaching 99 degree and GPU 80! Is this normal ??
CPU have not Trottled on me yet... so i'm kinda scared if there is any safe mechanism ? :O

Moreover I have never seen CPU reaching turbo Multiplayer 34x... I usual set it to high performance when I get constant 32x.

I have also ordered now Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound will it help ?

Could someone how me link how this actualy has to be done ?

Your temps are too high. My CPU (4700MQ), gets about 53-55C on idle, 48-50C with cooler. In most games I get temps under 78C on CPU. BF4 does tax my system, however I have hit max 84C (campaign only, not online). The only time my CPU broke 90C is when I was running Unigine Heaven Benchmark with max settings simultaneously with Prime95 max heat CPU benchmark for half an hour. Even then I hit 96C at peak. I used IC Diamond.

I believe the default multiplier while using 4 cores simultaneously is X32, so that's normal.

Are you undervolting? That might help with temperatures as well as a notebook cooler.

I'm having the same issue... and im not satisfied with the workaround of playing it at 1080p. Personally for me I'd rather crank the detail up and scale the resolution back...
I noticed event viewer is showed the following error. Also this machine has 16gb of ram. So pretty sure it's not my system memory.

    Log Name: System

Got that too a few times (@1080p), while virtual mem was just fine.
I was under the impression it was a win8.1 bug with virtual memory management.

Reduce your clock speeds with Intel XTU and limit your FPS with nVidiaInspector or with the BF4 console. I was getting 95C+ with BF4 if I didn't do this.

You mean pagefile? I've tried a number of different variants, from Auto, to 0, to 32gb (double my ram) all result with the same "low memory error".

I did stumble over this thread on the intel forums.. it seems to be affecting clevo machines who upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1.

There are no burn marks (any residue can be removed with a tim cleaning compound) it does leave light scratches though.

after applying ht n1 paste I got 98 max in bf4 after 1h of play..mid of keyboard got hot but its.

no throttle so far and no undervolt...

I used to have same temps on my w110er so I am not supprised :> I think I will leave it be.. apply ic diamond when it comes and post results.

I am interested if it would be possible issue a massbuy on this unit (perhaps via massdrop). But only to order the blank barebone itself, to achieve best pricepoint possible (and everyone can install processor, ram etc. according to their needs). Would there be more people interested?

Is the w230st still emitting that interference noise from the external speakers and that grating or grinding sound from the single fan? Another thing I remember from the W230st was that single fan going on and off even when idle or just simply web browsing, was it ever fixed with a bios or software mod?

How about the battery life? I remember to only get 3-3.5hrs at best when surfing at 30% brightness, was it ever improved? I remember having so much BLB IPS Glow, were they able to fix and minimize the bleeding glow on that AHVA panel from W230ST? Were they able to fix the cpu throttling and high temps of around 95-99c without doing any cpu core disabling or other software modifications when it's suppose to work anyway without doing any tinkering to it? Did the 37 watt 4702 quad haswell or i5 dual core haswell fix the problem of throttling and high temps? Remember i'm talking about not doing any software mod just to make it work like it's suppose to.

    Thanks

You must press the button for 1-2s.
If it doesn't work, for me it means that your battery or motherboard is defective..
Maybe a BIOS reset or flash may improve things though.

I'm not sure about external speaker noise. I used it with HDMI cable connected to a TV, which itself is connected with optical cable to to soundbar/subwoofer. I also used USB Logitech wireless and regular Sennheiser headphones and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

Don't have grating noise from the fan. However I've repasted when the laptop arrived, so maybe the tightness of the screws on heatsink/fan could be possible cause of the problem if someone experienced it.

The fan did go off randomly on idle, was fixed with Prema Modded BIOS + EC. The fans are loud under load, that didn't change, however the laptop is silent while browsing/idling.

To address battery life I'll repost my recent test:
Prema was saying that another update is in the works, which could possibly improve battery life more. However I won't speculate. 50% brightness is what I use when plugged in, so with a lower brightness it could last longer and still be very comfortable to use.

There is a bit of bleed on the bottom corners of my screen. It's on the very edge, in my case there is a bit more on the left and almost nothing on the right. To be honest it's pretty minimal and only noticeable when screen goes completely dark for more than several seconds. It might be fixed by messing with mounting screws, but I never bothered.

After I did my own repaste CPU doesn't throttle at all, proved with testing without any undervolts or modifications. I'm not sure if it would throttle without my repaste, since that's one of the first things I did when I got the laptop.

I'll post my test results here. During the test I ran Prime95 Large FTT (max heat) test simultaneously with Unigine Heaven in 1080p with every setting maxed out for half an hour without a notebook cooler and any CPU undervolt.

The CPU temps as you can see reached 96C. During regular gaming with an undervolt and modifier change the highest I ever got was 84C in BF4, while any other game stayed below 78C.

I have 4700MQ, so no idea about other processors. HTWingnut reviewed 4200M, it does run cooler than his 4800MQ.

Hi, my w230st is way too hot (96 degrees during stress tests for cpu). Is there something I'm doing wrong? I'm looking at xtu multipliers myself, it says I have 4 active cores with 34x, 33x, 32x, 32x on the respective cores.

I've changed my multipliers to 28x when using 3 or 4 cores (the last two numbers). There really isn't much if any difference in performance, and the temperatures are better. You can also change Dynamic CPU voltage offset to undervolt. My 4700MQ is stable at -80mV, however it's all individual. Do it in small increments, test it with XTU stress test and Prime95 to see if you get any errors.

Did you select thermal paste upgrade from your reseller or repasted it yourself? That might make a difference, a notebook cooler can help as well.

With an undervolt you should be good at stock clocks temperature wise but as Ellantan pointed out every chip is different, at stock voltage some will run cooler than others even.

i have a w230st too.. did put it -50mV right now and it's stable GPU +100 Mem +400.
I did repaste it and during stress test of CPU i am getting max 88 degree.

However in game like crysis or bf4 i am still getting 97-98 degree, which is HOT!.

What is interesting puttingsomething under laptop just to lift it.. or using notebook cooler decrees this temps to 80is (yes about 15 degree). It seems fan is really poorly designed here.

That is a huge disparity, are you using it on a flat surface or something like a blanket/bed? Are all intake and exhaust fans free from obstruction?

Lifting it slightly with bottlecaps does help a lot. They are restricted by dimensions to incorperate it into the design.

    WOOO

Just purchased this little beast from xoticpc
    Now the waiting game begins

This is the set up right now that i have ordered:
    i5-4200m
    intel wireless 7260-

I kept it bone bare because well its cheaper for me that way also because its like my build project.

    I will be purchasing:
2x mSata Sata III drives (new year deals are a coming thats why i held off ;)
Samsung large Pro Drive for all storage needs (again looking for deals)

I will be upgrading the CPU when I find the 4900MQ on another site (amazon, ebay forums, ETC)
The memory will be going with 16gb but at 2133mhz or higher (just looking around for a good deal and research for the specific chips used *elpida's ;)

Now the hunt begins and research on all the bios stuff, (perma oh ya buddy) Raid options (configs) windows 8 (installing on y580 to get a feel for the environment and such) and multitudes of options

Thanks guys, i will be also reading every page on this owners club to just get all the information and see what kind of problems if any at all are occuring

    Again thanks for being awesome

Don't bother with the i7-4900MQ, it's overkill for this laptop and won't be able to reach its full potential. All you need is an i7-4700MQ, otherwise the CPU will exceed it's TDP quickly so there's no real benefit to it. The highest clock that I have been able to sustain (and other people as far as I know) is 3.4-3.5GHz and that's without running the GPU. And RAID really isn't necessary for SSD, you don't gain much benefit from that either, unless you just want a much larger drive size. Two 256GB mSATA SSD's in RAID 0 for 512GB and possibly a 960GB for extra storage if you really need 1.5TB fast storage.

That's what I discovered also. No way to keep the processor cool enough with its built in heat management. Undervolting isn't enough to get you there.I think they could have done a better job with the heat piping. The GPU and CPU sharing the same cooling system definitely is a contributing factor. I've replace the thermal paste with a much better paste (Old school GC Extreme which is hard to find now) and that helped by about 6-8 degrees while being stressed. If I can just cool it another 5 degrees or so, I'll be able to get more out of it. I'm almost tempted to use those metal based thermal pastes. Those can buy me another 2-3 degrees maybe. Just not worth the risk giving the cooling system may not allow for the additional thermal conductivity to improve things if the issue is dumping the heat via the single fan.

With the exception of the Razer 14 this is still the most portable gaming machine out there capable of this level of performance.

I think the PSU is slim already, for a 120W.

But if you can find one of these, it may work http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Lightweight-Notebook-Laptops--33196/dp/B0006IWLZ8

It's dimensions and review here: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3522&review=Kensington+Power+Adapter

    But if you look, it's: 5.6"x3.1"x0.7" / 11.4oz

The one that came with my notebook is: 5.8"x2.9"x0.9" / 15.5oz

So it's only slightly smaller and lighter by fractions of an inch and only a few oz lighter. I really don't think you'll find much smaller for 120W.

Just be careful that a 3rd party adapter has the correct tip, supplies the right voltage and the rating is for the power it delivers to the device (not also including things like USB charger ports) and that it's 120W continuous and not peak.

Hey maybe this has been asked/answered already, but my thread searching isn't finding it.

Are there any ways of turning off the touchpad gestures? I tried installing the latest official synaptics but they failed installing. Also the drivers from Clevo do not include the gesture options. Any help? Thanks.

I have the Mythlogic customized version of the Clevo W230ST

these do install and contain the gesture settings: Drivers | Synaptics
make sure to uninstall all previously installed driver versions~ I had some weird autostart problems when just installing these over the clevo one :/

    cool thanks.
I figured since it is v16, it wasnt going to work properly with win8.1, but it works better than any other version of synaptics drivers i have tried.

    thanks again

I just successfully installed Prema's 1.1 BIOS and wanted to post feedback for others who may be considering switching. The difference is drastic with regards to fan noise, the machine is dead quiet and temperatures are staying in an acceptable range (50-60C) when doing regular tasks and up to 80C when gaming. I highly recommend switching, just make sure you follow the instructions in the readme and you won't have any issues.

Guys, maybe someone can help me with a recent problem :)
My GPU seems to throttle while I'm playing games, the Afterburner OSD shows a drop from 2600/1000 MHz to 405/405 MHz which makes Skyrim slow down to a slideshow with 5 fps :(
Nvidia Inspector comfirmes this and states that the GPU is in performance state P8 instead of P0.
Temps at that time were mid 60° GPU and mid 70° CPU.

So far the only way to get higher clock speeds again is rebooting.
Anyone has any idea on that?

Are both your intel and Nvidia drivers up to date from their respective websites?

It looks like windows update installed an older Intel driver...
Thanks for mentioning that, I keep the Nvidia driver up to date with GeForce Experience but I haven't checked the Intel driver.
Installed the newest one and will test this later today :)

That's why I keep my updates manual, auto does some weird things.

I'll post some new benchmarks, you can see my new ridiculous 3DMark11 score in signature.

I have a desktop with Z77 motherboard; it came with GPU virtualization software bundled with it. Recently the software had some updates, and they started to support Origin Laptops, which are essentially Clevos.

I'm not advocating buying it or using it. It's just food for thought and needs a lot more testing. It supports a number of different games, however a lot of titles are missing and not every game has a profile with boost enhancement (I suspect for a reason). It looks impressive in benchmarks, however that doesn't mean much.

HTWingnut wanted to see 1080p benchmarks, so I ran Unigine Heaven 4 times.

The first two tests are with a regular setup without software. The first score is without undervolt and OC. The second one is with my standard setup of stable OC 125/560 + Undervolt.

The second test combines dGPU and iGPU with Virtu MWP. The first score is once again without any modifications. The second uses the same OC and Undervolt.

Usefulness of the software in real world applications is debatable. Its effects on Optimus are untested. Temperature wise it was fine.

Mine are on manual, too. But there is no driver version number mentioned in windows update, just some "Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3", so I updated it :)
