This is much more than we actually "knew" such as battery life and that UHD screen.. it sets that screen in stone whereas it was NOT listed anywhere in the past.

And if they really fixed the battery life to get 7 hours... that would be amazing.. maybe they also fixed that "fan" feature ;)

Not sure any of the panels would really be better, though.

For battery life, I expect it to be a tad more than actual, due to 860M better efficiency. But not much either since battery life is more interesting when that gpu idles ;)
And, from that dedicated other thread ;)

I doubt they fix anything else...

Does anyone know if the W230SS will be compatible with any Windows operating systems before 8.1?

It should be since the chipset is the same.

Hmm.. I'm looking again at the drivers available for download for the W230SS from the Clevo site [ link] and they ALL state "for Windows 8.1 64-bit version" ...I really hope they aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot like that.. surely not? Are these backwards compatible (although the use of the word 'backwards' here is a bit of an oxymoron imho, lol)
Anyone from XoticPC / LPC-Digital / Sager able to clarify?

Seriously? It uses the same exact Intel chipset as the W230ST. You will be able to load Windows 7 on it easily and just install the appropriate Intel, NVIDIA, and Realtek, etc. drivers off the manufacturer's site. Of course you got your answer from Meaker@Pro-Power all ready but just seemed to ignore him? Whatever.
I'm going to just ignore the thread from now on because it is pretty much the same guy going on with silly question over a refresh model with only a "new" GPU (re-brand with different clocks) and some different panel options from the factory that he didn't buy (probably buyer's remorse that he didn't get the "latest and greatest")

Wow people sure are sensitive around here huh. Yes, I see Meaker said "It should be since the chipset is the same." in reply to someone else.. just wondering why Clevo would specify the drivers are for W8.1 and not W7.. really that doesn't make you wonder even slightly?

I'd like to say I'm sorry about being 'excited' about this new release and the first of the 800 series available, and I'd like to say I'm sorry for asking questions that you deem 'beneath' you in your obviously superior knowledge of life, the universe, and everything.. I'd like to say I'm sorry - except I'd be lying. You're a tosser mate, simple as that, and you can suck on it all night long.

FYI if you looked at my signature you'd see I run a NP6110 which is nearly 2 years old and the only laptop I've ever had - desktops have been my thing for years, not laptops.. " probably buyer's remorse that he didn't get the latest and greatest"? Really??? Yeah.. all night long... you heard me.

Try to install the latest drivers from Intel if you have the 7260 card. The latest driver set (from 2/14/14) seemed to fix a host of issues: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Se...oductProduct=Intel®+Dual+Band+Wireless-N+7260

Agreed. I'm OK with constructive criticism but he complains about the machine like it hurt him or something. Not sure why someone would own a machine they seem to loathe so much.

In any case I wouldn't let one person spoil the fun.

So, anyone knows if we can fit these new fancy WQHD/QHD screens from W230SS in to our W230ST? If the pin out is same, it's possible, no? Hope someone volunteers when the SS comes out :D

Forgive me if I'm wrong about this but the GPU refresh seems to have brought eDP 1.3 with it instead of 1.2 in the old model. This wouldn't really matter in a desktop as both standards are good for UHD resolutions however in laptops it's fairly normal to reduce the number of channels to reduce costs, this limits bandwidth and resolution.

TL;DR best guess no you probably can't use the new panels in your old W230ST. It's worth a shot though, worst case you can use the panel as a desktop display :p

i have installed ac 7260 in w230st today and i am suffering on 300ms lag spikes every few minutes ...
    It makes my gaming impossible.

I am using 5Gz band and I have installed latest drivers from intel page.

Other devices do not have such issue on 5Gz.

Do you know any other wifi card i could buy ?

I have reverted to my stock card and all issues are gone :D

DPC lat is all over the place :(

Is it just my unit or just this card generaly sux ?

I'm assuming you're using the latest drivers from nVidia?

Also, I find I don't get signal loss using 5GHz. I know that doesn't help much if you have 2.4GHz, but so far I've been running fairly smooth at 5GHz.

Hi all - been a w230st owneer for over half a year. Ive noticed that my CPU temperatures are higher than when I first got the laptop...but may just not remember. When I do intel XTU stress testing, my CPU sky rockets to 97+ C and it starts throttling like mad. This is with stock frequences on a 4700MQ -70mV on the CPU. When I play BF4 temps go up to 96+ C...

Is this a bit weird or what?

Also - when you guys do stress tests on the CPU does the outbound air get warm at all? Mine does not. I've taken the stock heatsink off, didnt notic any damages and repasted with MX-4...but still same issue of 95+ C on load.

I was looking at this persons review of the w230st and their CPU temps also go to 99 C with BF4 64 players..

My computer literally does not shut down.

Yes, I will shut it down and it will go off. But every time I press the power button to turn it back on it says "resuming hibernation".

    Is this normal?

What is your power button set to do in power settings. If its set to make the computer hibernate then yes it would be acting normally to what its assigned to do, but not what you want it to do. Check that setting.

I've read almost every sigle page of this thread, but I can't still get reasonable battery life records. I've been trying processor undervolting using XTU, and setting energy saving plan in Clevo Control Center (8.0134) and nothing more than 3:05 seems to be possible. In this plan processor cores are really slow (800Mhz or something close to it) and GPU is at 0 MHz (as GPU Z claims). I've read somewhere that over 4hours (or even 5 :) ) is possible but I can't figure out how. The most annoying thing is that when I change plan to some battery demanding in CCC the time is not decreasing as much as it should. Durring battery test I'm watching some movies (headphones) (from local harddisk) and checking email from time to time (WIIFI is on).
My config is quite non battery saving but mabye there is a way to increase battery life of this small beast.

Any ideas? Does v2 Prema Bios change anything?

    My config: W230St, 4702, 16GB, 2x256 plextor raid0, 1tb storage. Prema Bios 1.1 and win 8.1.

3.5 hours is about normal on power saver mode, 30-40% brightness, light browsing. Plus 2x SSD + HDD are also power consumers.

Hello. I have this laptop and I'm using Linux. When battery is very low, internal speaker starts to beep like crazy. It shouldn't, as it's disabled in BIOS. I've tried multiple Linux distributions, all do the same. Has anybody had this issue and solved it? This is driving me nuts, I've searched whatever I can find, but no information is available for this...

Thanks a lot for all your help

Hi, I recently got an NP7330 and have been using it for a few days now. I like the machine so far, but one thing that's really annoying me is the loud fan that turns on every couple of minutes. This is happening frequently on my machine even when it's sitting idle (i.e. browser closed, no programs open). I watched the task manager and it appeared that Windows Defender (i.e. Antimalware Service Executable) was triggering the spike in CPU usage (with fan turning on high as a result) every couple of mins. So, I tried shutting off Defender and then installing AVG for some protection instead...I've got AVG on a different laptop and haven't had any fan issues with that one (but maybe it's just b/c it's a lower-powered, older Dell?). So, anyway, with Defender off and AVG running I'm still getting the fan turning on high every few mins (even when nothing is running on the computer..aside from basic background services).

Any advice on what I can do to stop the fan from cranking up every few minutes, even when computer is basically sitting idle? FYI, laptop is sitting on a wooden desk at avg room temp (i.e. 70F)...so, I wouldn't think it should be overheating while sitting idle. Anyway, just curious if this is normal behavior for the NP7330 that I just need to deal with, or if there's a way to reduce the frequency.

    Thanks.

Is the W230SS going to be different in terms of internal design that can fix or improve things that was wrong with W230ST like bursty loud fan even on idle, the rattling noise inside, the poor battery life?
