Seems eurocom and mysn.de are the only ones offering the high res panel at the moment. None of the other mysn branches even have this model and none of the UK lot (scan, pc specialist, pwnpcs) have the model either. I guess I'll wait until the end of the week.

Due to a Clevo supply issue, the Sager NP7338 / Clevo W230SS will not ship with the QHD screens at this time.

No ETA at the moment when the QHD will be available. Sorry.

Forgive me for this noob question but would there be any way to fit the 860m into the 230ST?

That would be impossible. The GPU is soldered directly onto the motherboard.

Yep and I doubt they are pad compatible so even a franken mod would be impossible.

Pricing is pretty good too. The upgrade special to an i7-4810MQ for just $35 is great - I can't imagine many people not jumping on that. Got it in my cart, just waiting on a reply to a couple of questions (emailed to XoticPC). Will have to wait a few more weeks for shipping but it's good to know exactly what it is, what it isn't, and how much it costs.

Another good thing - most of the groundwork for the ideal notebook cooler and more portable power brick for the NP7338 has already been done (I assume) with the NP7330.. I'll just have to find that info somewhere in these 380+ pages of discussion, lol..

I wonder if the low profile power brick I use for my NP6110 will be sufficient.. it's a Thermaltake Toughpower ultra slim 95W. Anyone used that with the NP7330?

Is it not the Chi-mei one used in the W230ST?

Hey guys. Is it possible to install the W230SS motherboard with the 860M into the W230ST? So I don't have to bother selling and rebuying?

    Hi,

I posted this in the main forum, but thought perhaps this is a better place to ask.

Just ordered a W230ST and I'm planning to download the latest drivers etc before it arrives, just for speed of set up later on.

Am I right in thinking that the latest drivers are all on the Sager website? custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks then click on the correct link.
On the Clevo website it says their drivers are only for windows 8, and I'm installing 7.

Also, I see lots of talk of BIOS updates etc. Does anyone have a link to the latest/best one that I should be using? I'm not really looking to OC or anything, but if there are any general gains to be made by updating the BIOS, I might at well.

    Thanks guys

You'll find the latest stable Sager supported drivers on their site.

For the BIOS, you'll probably want to touch base with Prema on that one but seeing as how they just released yesterday I don't think anybody will know if it's compatible or not until someone tries.

It's been on order a few days now, but I'm on a fairly strict budget and made the assumption that the SS would be too much.

I've not gone for a fully loaded / pimped ST (i5-4200, 8gb, 1tb hybrid hd, 765m) so it fits in my budget (£700) whilst providing the power and mobility I wanted. Plus I saw no UK suppliers of the SS until late March and wanted to get it ordered sooner rather than later.

Would a similar SS be available at the same price do you think?

Okay, I'll have a look around. Until then, though I'm to assume that the drivers on the sager website and the bios in that link are the best?

Prema's bios is the one to go, even if you choose the stock one, as it's more secure. Not sure what link you talk about though.

Hello, i am planning to buy sager 7338- refreshed w230st with i7 4810qm and gtx 860m- from xoticpc. They offer installing additional copper heatsinks for 80$ and IC DIamond compound application for 35$, can anyone recommend those upgrades (worth paying for)?? Also what ram option do you recommend? 1 x 8GB or 2x 4GB ? Is version with 1 module less power hungry ?
And last question- can i install thermal compound by myself without warranty being void? Thx for help.

Having had a look here: XMG P304 13.3" Pro Gaming Notebook

A SS the same spec as my newly ordered ST, but with the 860m instead of the 765m is £140 more, albeit from a different website as PCSpecialist isn't stocking the SS until the end of March. Not worth the increase in price to me at least.

AFAIK, the IC Diamond can help to reduce temps by 5 degrees C (from what I remember seeing elsewhere), I'm not sure on the copper heatsinks, but that money seems steep.

Again, afaik, having 2x4 will allow you to use dual-chanel RAM, which offers (slight?) speed increases over just the 1x8. The benefit of the 1x8 would be that obviously later you could add another 1x8 into the free slot, giving you dual-chanel on 16gb. Unless you plan on upgrading it later though, and assuming the cost isn't way more, I see no reason not to go 2x4

Edit: As for installing it yourself - I doubt you could do it without voiding the warranty, but it isn't that difficult a thing to do, but if it goes wrong, it really goes wrong I guess... I'd check with whomever you buy it from to see their warranty details etc.

I just placed my order for an SS. This will be replacing a 2yr old Asus UX31e that is getting a bit long in the tooth.

My main workhorse is my trusty old NP7280 that I have beat on every day for the last 3+ years and it's still going strong.

This will be my 3rd Sager. My first was a NP9260 that has been running pretty good since mid 2008.

Just placed my order too! W( O)(o )T !!!

    i7-4810MQ, GTX860M, 16GB RAM, Intel AC 7260, W7pro64.

Just getting a standard 750GB mech drive - I'll replace it with the 240GB Intel 520 series SSD from my NP6110. Considered 2 x mSATA, but too costly when I have a perfectly good SSD available and a near new 1TB external drive sitting here.

Ordered 2 year extended warranty and a spare battery too.

Thanks Derek S for your help!

Stoked! Can't wait! ..but I'll have to wait 2-3 weeks whether I like it or not, lol.

hmm.. will there be a new thread for the NP7338? ..considering how close it is to the NP7330, might be a bit redundant, no? Guess it depends how different the BIOS and GUI tools are..

Think I found a good cooler for it - Zalman ZM-NC1000 [ link] in black. Width looks to be about perfect, good even air flow, adjustable fan.. very nice. I have a Zalman ZM-NC1500-mini for my NP6110 and am happy with it (but it's too small for a 13.3" laptop), so going Zalman again seemed a good idea.

Question- Which 7200rpm 1tb hard drive is offered with np7338? Is it faster then the smaller drive - 7200RPM 750GB 16mb cache[ Which is probably wd scorpioblack]

I believe there is only one drive that has 1tb 7200 RPM that isn't too thick for the HDD bays. That'd be the HGST
