Well, it's that time of year again. The fan in my W230ST is making an awful grinding sound, even at low speeds. I've taken the back off and attempted to reseat the fan on its bearing but this hasn't helped at all.

Got in touch with Larry at LPC-Digital and it seems like things should be straightened out soon. Still a bummer to not be able to use my only machine for a while. :( Has anyone else had this problem since the last time it was mentioned? This is the second time I've dealt with it.

Hey guys, first time poster long time sager fan.

I have a question about the bios, I recently flashed the stock bios back into my 7330 from the premamod website and I was wondering why it looked funny to me. What is the main boot logo supposed to look like?
I'm asking this because I am thinking about sending my laptop back in for repairs after being unable to fix the 765m, it gives and error "code 43" and has been for a little while.

As a side note I used to have premamod bios, running windows 8.1 with latest video drivers then one day my dgpu wasn't working, I tried reinstalling the drivers and long story short I'm now running windows 7 with stock bios, stock drivers and its still not working. And has the exact same error code.

So will sager know I modded my bios and reject my warrenty?

Ask Prema if he has a sager logo bios, this is why it can help to take a backup of your bios before flashing one.

    Need some help guys...

The issue is that nothing appears on screen... it just remains completely black.

I was using the laptop fine yesterday. It had the battery in, and was connected to the AC adapter. I closed the lid (but settings are so that the laptop remains on). I then disconnected the AC cord and moved the laptop to another desk, keeping the lid closed. I was going to use the laptop, but forgot about it overnight. And so I am assuming it automatically went to sleep or hibernate once battery started getting low.

Anyway, I woke up this morning and connected the AC cord so the battery could charge. About 10 min later, I opened the lid and tried to turn on the laptop. The problem is that the screen did not show anything, not even the red Sager logo that appears at boot up. The backlight of the keyboard is working, so it doesn't seem to be a power issue. However, nothing I do can get the screen to show anything... I've even tried pulling the battery out, disconnecting the AC cord, hard resetting (by holding the Power button). Nothing has worked.

    Any ideas?

    Help is appreciated!

    Hey guys,

I've been away from the thread for about a year. What's the status of GPU overclocking? I've got the latest nVidia drivers (344.75) which are required for Dragon Age. I'm trying to overclock the 765m a bit, but having no luck with MSI Afterburner. The core clock slider changes when I drag it, but when I click "Apply" the core clock does not change. I can change the memory clock but that makes the nVidia driver crash and I get a kernel reloaded the driver message from Windows.

Any one care to share which tools and settings they've successfully used to overclock the GPU with these latest drivers? And by "successfully" I mean that the your GPU core clock readout actually shows a higher clock rate (since afterburner appears to let you set it but then doesn't)?

    Thanks!

Does manipulating the bezel around there cause a change? That looks like an error with the light dufusal layers in the LCD otherwise.

Greetings to all of you. I have received my first Sager NP7338 laptop last Dec. 12, 2014, and just as the legend says it is really more of a beast.
Well, I have some minor problem that I wanted to ask to all of you. This laptop of mine happens to have a "fingerprint reader" capabilities as what the webstore where I bought had indicated. Although I wasn't able to provide a snapshot, I am indeed sure that they indicated the fingreprint reading capabilities since I've come accross to about four or five webpages where they posted their ads to for this laptop.
I already visited the downloadable drivers webpage of Sager NP7338 but I never found a driver that relates fingerprint reading. So how do I actually activate this thing (I know and believe that some of you also have the same specifications as mine) ? Any help would be much appreciated. I just wanted to get out most of my laptop potentials.

Thanks in advance to you guys. :hi2:

The only way to have fingerprint reading on your laptop is with a USB fingerprint reader. I've seen some retailers advertise those as addons to their systems and I'm 99% sure that is what has happened. They may have been misleading about it in theirs ads.

Thanks a lot for your reply sir. I was a bit ashamed of myself to throw up that noob question here. Haha :D

Anyways, I am currently encountering an issue about my Wifi. Everytime I boot up, I had to use the "troubleshoot problems" on the network, in which the troubleshooter always says "turn on the wireless capability" and then I apply the fix, and everything then is fine until I shut down (and as I said the problem appears again the next time I boot up and apply the fix, and again and again). I tried to reinstall the drivers, while making sure they are updated, but to no avail since the problem still persists.

Is this a rare case scenario Sir? or have you heard similar problems like mine? I use Windows 7 Ultimate as my OS. If you do have a suggestion to solve this issue, your help would be much appreciated again. Thanks in advance.

Isn't it obvious ? You have an Intel card while installing Realtek driver, I wonder why your machine has not blown up yet. You have to uninstall that driver and install the right one from Intel, best is to download the Driver Update Utility from their site and it will find the right driver for you.

Forgive me, but I should have said "Internal 802.11 B+G+N Wireless LAN + Bluetooth Combo Module". I don't really know what company manufactured this wireless card, but I am pretty sure my laptop comes with the base specs (I know the other two wireless card that are "upgrades" which include the dual-band and the Killer).

What is also included in the driver installation CD is that "Realtek" thing. So I downloaded the driver of the similiar name from the drivers download site, since I think the Sager might have updated some of their drivers there. (as I have said, last April 11,2014 as provided in the site).

well, I'll try the Driver Update Utility then. If it works I'll just update here. Thanks Sir

Give the latest from realtek a try:

    Realtek

If you go to device manager, under network it should confirm exactly the model you have.

BIOS aren't typically provided by Sager since there really isn't much need to update it unless you have a specific issue the changelog says it addresses. There is a sticky on the main page of BIOS versions though. You'd also have the option of going with the Prema BIOS mod that most people do if you'll be doing so anyways.

You'll want to refer to his documentation or ask on the Premamod BIOS thread. It's third party and so I won't be able to offer too much advice on it. Pretty common for owners of this machine to do so any install questions should be answered pretty quickly on it.

It's an ADDA AB7905HX-DE3, same one as in the W230SS, W370ET and W150ER. Sticker on my W230SS fan even says "W150ER":

    Hey,

I just moved to windows 8.1, and I got really strange problem! In any game, on lowest settings, after ~2mins of play, i got about 20fpses. Sometimes they drop down to 5. Yes, i do have installed drivers, and I am running these games on Nvidia card.

Could someone whoes running Win 8.1 share with me list of his drivers? Cos I believe this maight be a problem, so I got something missing (don't know what), or something.

    Thank you

Going back to Win 7. Got enough of this Win 8.1 probs. Just connected my HDMI, after 5secs blue screen showed up. On next startup graphics card was unavailable for system.

    Shame on you, Microsoft!

I just bought a used W230ST with Windows 8.1 on it and some of the drivers were missing. When running Driver Update an error occurred (to quick for me to read it) but on reboot the driver updates continued, apparently unfazed... but now I have no NVidia graphics card.

On the Clevo driver download page all the NVidia drivers are listed as "VGA" - could someone tell me which one is for the GTX 765M?

Though it may not do me much good if the system can't find the hardware :(

Well, I just solved my problem by transferring the Windows 7 SSD (and storage HDD) from my W230ST with broken case over to the Windows 8.1 W230ST with missing drivers and graphics card. Apart from me having done it in my sleep and therefore ending up with 3 drives inside (is that possible?) I've got my graphics card back and all is tickety-boo now that I've sorted out the boot order. Fingers crossed ;)

Once I've had a sleep I'll open up the case and see what the heck I've done to end up with 3 drives :-/

Man, this is frustrating. Using the Intel ETU for stress testing, my laptop never goes past 2 GHz and hits temps of 100C (on a cooling pad). Thermal throttling ranges from 40-50% and CPU total TDP hovers around 20. I knew it was a mistake putting a 4800MQ in, but even after repasting, nothing seems to be helping with the heat issues.

    Hi,

I have a query for other owners of this laptop. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the laptop seeming to go into power saving mode when unplugged, but not going back into balanced mode until a restart.

Example, I unplug it to drag over to my bed to watch some Netflix, all is fine and dandy. I walk back over and plug it in to play some games, fan never kicks in as if it's in passive cooling mode and cpu package power is locked to 14w max via hwmon.

Computer is set to balanced mode in win 7 64 bit, I never change it.

let me know if you've seen something similar.

Guess I just have a ghost in the machine, I figure it may be some kind of driver thing. But I don't really feel like going through the trouble to figure it out. Mostly since it only happens if I unplug the laptop and for 90% of my use it is plugged in sitting on my desk.

    Hello all,

I am thinking of buying this laptop with the GTX960M but i have a few questions.
I read somewhere that the GTX960M is only an overclocked 860M, does this means the 860M will support directx12 too and is spending 80 euro's more for the 960M worth the price?
Also i'm a little concerned about the heat of the machine, do you think it's better to go for the Clevo N150SD GTX 960M since this laptop has 2 heat sinks?

    Greetings

The reason that is said is because the GTX 860M 2.0GB GPU was already using the Maxwell architecture and that is the big improvement in the 970M > 870M and 980M > 880M. So the 860M 2.0GB was actually ahead of the others.

Anytime you put this level of hardware in a chassis like this it going to have higher temps then a 15.6" or 17.3" computer since the air flow solution is going to be more limited due to size. However overheating shouldn't be an issue.
