I lost my video card suddenly in Windows 7 Home Premium on an Alienware M11x, was told by Dell that a new motherboard would be required @ £620  However, the card reappeared after a Windows Update, and I wonder if you've had all the updates for 8.1 yet - if it's anything like 7, updates take several days to complete after a new install.

Can anyone help with a speaker issue i have? Windows 8.1

Only the left hand speaker is working. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing audio drivers VIA HD Audio 8.1 (Device manager shows no issue, but for "High Definition Audio Device" This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE)

I've also checked to see if any obvious cable had come unplugged but couldn't identify any issue.

I got this notebook new with no OS installed months ago, so installed 8.1 myself, i confess i'm not sure if both speakers ever worked, but i suspect they did because it's only recently i've started to notice some videos needing the volume up to 100 and even then is still too quiet sometimes.

If driver don't fix it and you have double checked the cable then it sounds like an issue with the speaker.

If it was new you should be able to refer to the retailer - for advice at the very least, if not collection and repair.

I must say that I am not impressed with the speakers in mine, but laptop speakers never are much good.

NVidia is offering me an update for GeForce Experience. I installed it a few days ago but, coincidentally I think, I had some problems with persistent 'USB plucking' sounds so I did a system restore and of course the update is being offered again.

I don't play games, I use the laptop for video editing, so is there any reason I should install it?

Not really, just leave it if you like but it should not cause USB connection issues.

I'm having an HDMI audio issue, and was wondering if anyone encountered this.

When my laptop is on and HDMI is then plugged in, I only get video mirrored with no audio. Device Manager does not detect the audio.

However, when I restart my computer (with HDMI still connected), the audio begins to work.

It's a workaround to the problem, but restarting gets annoying everytime I want to plugin and hear audio.

I'm using Clevo drivers when I installed Windows.

    Any suggestions?

Do you guys know where to get replacement parts for my w230st as I accidentally dropped it and the plastic covers broke? I was lucky that the screen did not shutter.

    I would appreciate a reply.

Hello fellow owners of this nice laptop :)

I'm relatively new here, writting from France and wondering how to reduce the temperature of my laptop.

While gaming (BF4 for example), temps go over 80 - 85 °C for the processor. I know it's not crazy high, but still I'm guessing running this hot for long period of time won't help the cores.

I repasted the laptop last year, and I'm using an external USB stand with fan. I don't see anything else I could do...

    - Any ideas ? Should I consider repasting after one year?
    - Is there any component I could change or add to ensure a better cooling (heat sinks? unicorn powder?)

    Cheers!

It's pretty normal, short of propping up the back of the machine slightly and making sure your paste job was good then enjoy the games and don't worry.

As long as your GPU temps are good I would not worry about those CPU temps either. The Haswell architecture runs a little warmer then previous gens but is also designed to handle it without issues.

    Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with the manufacturing quality of the W230ST.
This thread is a little long to search through.

My own developed cracks between the dip between keyboard and lower half of the machine after a month of use, followed by the paint wearing off on the trackpad.

Subsequent to this the screen began to snap off by the left hand side hinge.
This is all during normal usage and not something I would have expected.

I believe that the paint coming off does not constitute "fair wear and tear".

    Many thanks.

All that combine does sound a bit extreme as it's not something we typically hear. I'd suggest taking pictures and contacting your reseller about it.

just bought a eurocom model of the w230st, yea yea im late to the party

    had a question

tried searching through the function...but couldn't find a direct answer
    so i'll ask here

anyone here having trouble undervolting period (4700mq)? like i could only go -40mv.. and even then it crashed once
i did do a repaste with AC mx-4. fan is pretty much spot clean of dust

only culprit that i can think of is the seagate 1tb hybrid hard drive (i do plan on replacing it eventually with an actuall ssd or even just put 2 msata ssds for raid)
bottom right of the laptop gets hot and usually the hottest around the laptop. and of course thats directly where the hard drive is situated

could heat that gets generated there affect cpu heat?

update: so even with everything stock,, the laptop is locking up or im getting multiple BSODs (video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error, whea_uncorrectable error, etc ). and the heat is getting unbearable.
talked to Eurocom, they came to conclusion that its failing hardware. they gave me RMA, just sent it to them today.

Hope i get it back soon.

What is your stock voltage? Open up HWinfo Sensors or HwMonitor and see what the VID is for full load and 800mhz idle. Sometimes, you get a low offset because your chip is already ridiculously low voltage to begin with (i.e. good silicon). If your stock idle voltage VID is around 0.62V-0.64V you are very close to the threshold voltage for Haswell already (which is around 0.55V - 0.6V).

I can't get the hotkey software to work - after I install it and reboot, I always get a "System needs to be restarted again. Make sure all driver is installed." error, regardless of how many restarts I do. What are all the drivers that I need to have installed? (I am pretty sure I have them all already..) - or for an alternative, is there any way to set the maximum fan speed via some other software?

No, nothing. I contacted the shop many times and I always received answers like "we are dealing with the oem builder, we requested the spare part, blah blah blah". Now they also stopped answering my mails.

After looking for a laptop for the past couple weeks, I've finally joined the Sager club with my new (used) Clevo W230ST/Sager NP7330. And I have a few questions.

    1. Is there any way to confirm the model of this laptop? I made sure the specs were all as advertised (I bought it off of Craigslist), but I'm not sure how to confirm that it's the W230ST. Is it under the access panel?

    2. The seller said that they got the 3 year warranty when they bought it from LPC and that the warranty travels with the laptop. I have the serial number and it checks in on the Sager warranty site. Is the serial number all I need as the current "End User"?

    Thanks for your help!

Clevo Europe gives direct warranty to any officially imported Clevo system. They just need your serial number. No need to go through any reseller:

    Welcome to the Sager club!

There should be a sticker on the bottom of the computer which has a Model: W230ST on it.

You are correct the warranty stays with the computer. You will want to contact LPCDigital for any warranty work since they were the original reseller. Serial number should be enough but I would also ask the seller for the order number just so you have that.
