Greetings, Can someone pleas help me out. I upgrade my software to windows 10 but I am having problems with my gpu. I have an external moitor that i connecta via HDMI but every time i conect the HDMI to my laptop it crashes and goest to the sad face blue screen, after it reboots i can see the image in my monitor but the Nvidia gpu is not recognized. the only way my laptops seems to recognize de gpu is when it has no HDMI connected. Does anyone knows how can i solve this problem?

What intel GFX driver are you running?
-
I tried updating to windows 10. Still running it, but probably going back to Windows 8.1. I'm having problems with my LAN device constantly dropping my ethernet connection. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers to no avail.
The GFX device disappearing has been a persistent problem for me since updating to windows 8.1, and continues to be in windows 10. It seems to randomly fix itself with restarts, or setting bios to default, or whatever other random stuff. It always disappears following a BSOD.
Is there any word on sager/clevo giving us windows 10 driver updates? -
So, this just happened to my laptop: https://imgur.com/a/UIwSH
I can squeeze the lid and separated panel back together, but it won't stay and disconnects once I close the lid again. I'm still within my Mythlogic warranty period (covers labor only), but I'm not sure how much the lid/screen repair will cost. Plus, I really can't be without for any extended period of time right now (using it to complete various deadlines in September and October). Another route could be to get an external monitor and keyboard, and just relegate the laptop as a desktop. Any other suggestions? -
I feel you bro. mine had that as well. they replaced the plastic cover for free. without warranty about 100 EUR they told me.
-
Cheap and solid. A new glued-type will only break again after a while. Would reverse bolt and nuts, though; bolt+washer on the outside and nut on the inside of the lid (need to trim bolt then). Bit less 'pointy' that way. Stainless is more expensive, but certainly looks better than galvanised.
-
When mine broke (both sides all 6 entirely pulled from the backpanel) I used a two component type glue called Stabilit Express to rebuild it.
(grabbed it in Europe, since it broke during my travels)
Use it everyday, with opening closing, traveling since a year...no problems at all. -

There are some pretty good general purpose super glues out there, modeling shops are pretty good places to get some.
-
Thanks for all the suggestions. I forgot to mention that a piece snapped off: https://imgur.com/IRG7Ueh
If I go the glue/adhesive route, I imagine this broken screw won't hinder my makeshift repair? Any suggestions on how to use modeling glue (EDIT: read online that two-part epoxy may be a better choice for laptops) in the right places on the lid/screen panel?Last edited: Aug 25, 2015 -
Hi guys. I need help o. My np7330.
I am getting beeping sounds after a while when I'm on bios and it will eventually turn off. I get about 22 beeps. If I go straight to the desktop it doesn't beep but the numlock, capslock and scroll lock blinks for 22 times and it turns off.
I noticed that it happens when the fan makes a loud noise which must be when there's a need for a lot of cpu processing power.
What I did:
- I tried removing the RAM 1 by 1 and switched them.
- I removed the hard disk
- I bought and re applied thermal paste to the GPU and CPU after removing the old one using isopropyl alcohol.
When I check HWMonitor the CPU core temps ranges from 40 to 45. My unit is running on default settings no overclock or underclocking applied. I've had it for almost 2 yrs now. -
Enable 'EC Support' in HWiNFO (under 'Safety') and check whether you get an rpm report:
If it's off then you won't seen anything there, so use Fn+1 to force it to run. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It could be the EC is detecting an out of range value in any of the things it monitors and is panicing.
-
Also try a reflash of the BIOS and EC. Sometimes there is a communication loss between them that triggers these false thermal alarms.

Query to anyone still watching this thread, with a w230st.
I was wondering if any one else put Linux Mint or Ubuntu on their machine and encountered problems? I decided to give Linux a shot but for what ever reason the Xserver keeps locking up. I think it has something to do with the video switching from the Nvidia gpu to the Intel one. As it seems to work ok if I force it to just use the Intel gpu. If anyone else ran into this same problem and can point me in the right direction for a fix.
Thanks,

Separate issue, and why I actually came here. I saw some discussion of the Win10 upgrade and wanted to see if anybody is still watching, maybe has some advice. I wrestled pretty much all the drivers into place, and I think everything just about works, but I have two outstanding things that really bug me:
* The audio seems significantly quieter than before, which is really saying something considering the middling-at-best speakers in the W230ST. The mic is quieter too, even at 100% pickup and 100% boost. The audio device shows a VIA driver, v6.0.11.800. I *think* this came from Clevo's site as a Win 8.1 driver download.
* If I leave Cortana search turned on, swiping in from the right side of the trackpad triggers a voice search. I have to turn it off completely, and even then a swipe just does nothing (rather than moving the mouse pointer, as I'd like it to). The Synaptics drivers I'm using (17.0.9.1) can't fix this. Maybe I should be using a different version?
* One extra thing I guess somebody might be able to help with. This isn't hardware-specific to Clevo, but search indexing never seems to complete. It always says "These results may be incomplete..." when I press the Start key then start typing a search. Notably, no Control Panel items are ever shown. I just searched for "Internet Options" and the only suggestion is to "search the web" for this. -

Yesterday I repasted my laptop and the temps dropped dramatically; I used Artic Mx-4. When gaming temps reached 97- 99 C causing thermal throttling all the time. Now max temps are around 77-81 C. I really recommend to repaste your laptop if you are suffering with high temps.

I just tried to install Windows 10 on my w230st.
After a clean install, the graphics card refused to work. It just displayed "Code 43: Windows has stopped this device because it reported an error [...]" in the device manager.
In Win10, it always did that, no matter what I tried, reinstalling drivers, installing the old clevo drivers (despite them being for win8.1), reinstalling windows, it always showed that error.
So I decided to roll back to windows 8.1: First it seemed to work, but when playing a game on the nvidia chip there always is an error about the "Display driver stopped responding [and has recovering]" after a while. Again, installing the (old) clevo drivers did not help.
I also reflashed the stock bios - which did not help - and went back to prema mod - still did not help.
For me this sounds like the gtx765m died - but it always worked fine, this happening just after/with installing win10 seems to much of a coincidence.
Is there anyone else who installed Windows 10 on the w230st and had problems with the nvidia card? Or any advice from other users? Searching for "Code 43" on google just brings up kind of obvious stuff ("reinstall gfx drivers", "cold start machine", "clean up old drivers", "try manufacturer provided drivers" - which I all tried)
Sadly my warranty just ended - and as the gfx card is soldiered on the motherboard so replacing it would cost a fortune :| -
This also happened to me. I read that windows 8.1 drivers were not compatible with win 10 My solution: after installing windows 10 i uninstalled all nvidia drivers and restarted pc. then i installed the drivers from sager website and installed the latest Geforce experience software, restart pc. pray that the gpu is recognized. open geforce experience and download the latest nvidia driver.Done. Dont worry your card is not dead.
-
it turned out to be a dead graphics card, and the manufactor replaced the whole motherboard in this case. My warranty was also just ended but i luckely got 3 year insurance that payed the bills...
the best thing you can do is follow the steps in my thread and if u cant get it to work. your grahics card is dead..
maybe upgrading to windows 10 is bricking the gpu in theese machines? -
What do you guys think about running fallout 4 on this? I have a ps4 and this laptop but I'm not home too often.

I'd think you'd be able to run it on like medium settings above 30fps? Kind of a guess, but I'd think that should be doable.
-
I go the game. I run it on high. It usually runs around 40-50 but dips to 20s sometimes. Couldn't stand it playing I on medium felt like a ps2 game

Has anyone had any luck with the November Windows 10 update? It installed fine on my desktop, but when I try to update on my W230ST I keep getting a BSOD with the same VIDEO_DXGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR that I had gotten before when trying to install preview builds.
I know if worst comes to worst I can do a clean install, but I just wanted to check with you guys first. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have you tried removing your GPU drivers before doing the update?
-
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Worth a shot as the nvidia GPU should basically be off.
-
Removing the Intel and Nvidia graphics drivers ended up solving the problem for me.
Had to go to System>Advanced System Settings>Hardware and turn off automatic driver installation to keep Windows from reinstalling them before I updated. Now everything is working great. -

I'm sorry for the stupid question, but am I right in assuming there is no driver support for this laptop beyond Windows 8.1 ?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No official support no, but it should all migrate over pretty well.
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
If you upgrade to 10, usually you can get any drivers you need from the individual parts manufacturer's directly for Win 10. But you should be good in general if you upgrade though, and you can always roll back to 7/8.1 within the first 30 days pretty easily.
-
EDIT: Went into the BIOS and forced it to enable to dGPU, and that seemed to have fixed my issue of it not detecting. Was then able to reinstall the NVidia drivers.Last edited: Dec 12, 2015 -
Some of the keys in the top right area of my keyboard are not responding without multiple bashes. I would like to remove some keys to check if something's been spilt but cannot find a "how to" or whether it's OK to pull off the keys. (Plenty of guides on removing keyboard, but not keys.)
This is my second W230ST because the first one fell apart to a "beyond economical repair" state (it was damaged when I bought it), so I mustn't do anything risky. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
They keys are not designed to be remove really. Have you checked the cable seating into the motherboard?
-
Anyway, I've seen videos on YouTube that will help me check the cable so I'll do that, but there's been no stress on it that should have unseated it.
Thank you for replying, Meaker. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's worth a check at least and it should help you inspect the keyboard taking it out.

I REALLY love this machine (Metabox W230ST), and the price I paid was excellent!
I've never had such power, expandability, capability, for such a low price. 3 years on, and I'll stick with it until.......?
It's a portable desktop, for me. My desktop (i5 750) gathers dust, just used for mass storage (~12 HDD).
I'm a mature student now, so it's had ~12hrs/day for 12 mths straight. Never misses a beat.
1TB storage, 2 SSD... and I do ALL sorts to this thing.
But I do have complaints, I never bother discussing.
The WASD keys are dying more every day. They need more of a hard tap, than previously.
The big black dot in the middle of the touchpad is slowly growing, too.
First time I've had these problems with a laptop, and ~50% of my 3 years use was via wireless keyb/mouse. Not really happy about that.
The middle USB3 port has NEVER worked. It'll charge headphones, I think, at best.
11.2% battery wear, which is outlasting ALL other notebooks around me. Very happy.
The only machines on originals batteries are 5++ years old. -
I don't use mine for games but for video editing - it's not fast at that task but I don't appreciate how "un-slow" it is until I go back to Alienware M11x-R3 when I want something smaller/lighter on my lap.
As already posted, I'm having to bash keys too - but the original culprits are now OK and other nearby keys are playing up in their place.
Another problem is the fan whirring up repeatedly when not a lot is going on.
Need to bite the bullet and open it up but I'm always using it when I'm not sleeping -
A dab of flux and a quick touch with the soldering iron should be sufficient to fix that. Unfortunately, unlike most of the major components, that requires removal of the top cover first and perhaps even lifting out the motherboard and flipping it over. That depends on which side the mb the solder points are located. Removed mb once, but wasn't paying attention to the usb ports at the time.
For the keyboard it's easiest to buy a new one. Though you could also, at some risk, remove the keycaps and clean the rubber domes with turpentine (not white spirit). It's quite a small feat to break one of the keycap's small plastic clips, so proceed without resorting to force when attempting this.clemenzina likes this. -
After upgrading to Windows 10, I had a problem with icons on desktop. Whenever I ran a program with different resolutions (e.g Starcraft Broodwar, Warcraft, Counter-strike,...), the icons on my desktop are automatically re-arranged like auto-arrange is turned on. No matter what driver I'm using, it always happens. I posted this question on both Microsoft and Intel (with a video showing the problem), but no answer was given. They told me to clean install everything, but it didn't seem to fix it.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's a fairly common problem, one more reason Microsoft want to make full window mode default.

The DC connector on my w230st/np7330 was damaged and I can't seem to find a reasonably priced replacement. Anyone know what kind of DC connector to search for or where I can find one cheap?

Hi guys! Got a W230ST for cheap here in Denmark, as I needed a small gaming laptop for casual lan parties. How would I go about getting the best performance out of this? I will be replacing the thermal paste, however does Prema Mod give me anything in regards to overclocking the GPU or CPU?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, you can extend your overclocking options.
-
Also, I've been considering getting a new screen for it as well, however the W230SS seems to support a 3200x1800 resolution panel, would the same panel also work in the W230ST? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Gpu limits extended and things like memory clocks if I remember rightly.
