Mine arrived today and I am working through all the new pc configuration. Really need to figure out how to disable these flashing RGB lights on the sides as they're very distracting. A friend let me use his spare PG278Q monitor so I'm using it as my primary display at the moment. If you guys tell me to run I'll gladly install whatever software and send the results on the built in 1080p display.
Laptop Specs:
SPECIAL 9670M SPECIAL PACKAGE
NB9670B20M 17.3" FHD/IPS/144Hz/N7/MATT 8K07SC162426
CG-TGK Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on CPU+GPU
D-I710700K Core i7 10700K Processor
V9670-2080S nVIDIA RTX 2080 Super W/G-Sync
R4-32G-1C32 C/S 32G 3200DDR4 (1x32)
Edit: I removed the part of my post about the WiFi not detected as there was no WiFi card installed. I imagine when I requested a custom quote it was not part of the build out so it was not included. So nothing wrong from the vendor there was something wrong with meLast edited: Aug 5, 2020 -
I just feel like this is unacceptable from a quality stand point how do they not check a 3000$ rig to be sure everything is seated well before selling

From what I have seen from div tech websites... Intel originally developed/engineered Comet lake S with PCIE-4.0 support in mind. Hence most of the desktop MB manufacturers added in the specs for their MB design and continued to finalize their MB. It was later in the developement that Intel discovered problems as noise and changed mind and stopped at PCIE-3.0 support.
Do you think, or mean Clevo finalized the MB design - then started up MB production with Intel's final specs after they threw out the ban hammer for PCIE-4.0 support? This isn't cleared up. And from what we know before... Clevo skipped MB and latest chipset refresh for 9th gen Intel chips. This because it was acost saving question. The big question is if Clevo want to refresh a new MB and chipset for Rocket this time. I doub't it for only a short refresh. If so... No PCIE-4.0 support for X170 series notebooks before we see 1700 socket and Alder lake late 2021/22.

How does the 2080 super compare to like the 2070 super I’m wondering if we are seeing diminishing returns. I haven’t seen enough benchmarks on this rig for a fair comparison yet. I’m hoping that it destroys a 2070 super especially at another 75 watts and more cores

Guys, where does the information that the X170 has 4 speakers and 2 subs come from?
I checked with the resellers and apparently it's 2 speakers and 1 subs. -
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Clevo...ke-S-10-core-desktop-grade-CPUs.453755.0.html
From here, the slide labeled "improved speakers" shows 4 speakers and 2 subs, but one 2.1 system is for the P775 and the other 2.1 system is for the X170. -
-
I see.
Also, just wanted to ask, has anyone gotten the laptop yet, or is everyone waiting on the delivery still? -
I ordered mine two days ago as of this post, so I'll be lucky if I can get mine before the end of August.ignorant likes this. -
Question about the double power brick: does it have two separates plugs that need two separate sockets? I don't suppose they merge into one cable and become a single plug to fit into a single socket, right?
-
Two power inlet. You can probably use the bigger 780w adapter when it comes with custom made connectors. -
Alright guys I went ahead and bought 3DMark on Steam and ran the 4 benchmarks. Let me know if the links don't work they load for me in an incognito window so I imagine they're public facing.
Time Spy - https://www.3dmark.com/spy/13323728

This is with the i7, 2080 Super, 32GB RAM, and EVO Plus. I'm running Windows 10 1909 and closed all apps I could to free up the CPU/RAM. The only thing running is steam, 3dmark, and cortex security software. The Control Center has it running in Performance mode and I let the fans automatically adjust themselves during the tests.
On a side note, can anyone tell me why the Control Center software scales so weird on my screen? https://imgur.com/msc6rdWBrightSmith likes this. -
I did a repaste with a temporary cooler master paste I had until the kryonaut comes. No luck anyway, still thermal throttling under aida stress + furmark. The control centre still refuses to apply the light profile on boot, and power consumption is still hovering on 360 watts regardless of what I do to the power limits.
-
Anyone who received their laptop, can you do a decibel-phone test with laptop off, idle, browsing, load and post the values?
Thanks. -
Dont run furmark unless you want some grilled GPU VRMs, its not a realistic load at all..

Has anyone here who ordered from HID gotten their laptops yet? I’m curious as to whether granular keyboard LED control is possible out of the box, or whether it needs a specific app or driver.

Edit.
The nearest is the old P870TM

The only Turing Mobile offer over 1080 mobile is the RT cores and slightly increased performance. And the Super naming is more as Scam. Doesn’t bring much on the table vs standard 2080. A modest 10% increased performance at best.
From the link...
Conclusion
The results for the new Super Turing GPUs were, in our opinion, not very super. While the RTX 2070 Super is, in ideal circumstances, up to 20% better than the RTX 2070 (though 10% is more realistic), the RTX 2080 Super can only set its performance apart from the RTX 2080 by a maximum of 10% when using models that have the same TDP.Last edited: Aug 6, 2020raz8020 likes this. -

I put the phone face up on my desk 6" in front of the laptop with the mic facing the front and opened up the Fan Speed Settings application. I also shut off my air conditioning and shut my office door so the only noise is the laptop.
Idle the GPU is at 48º with its fan speed at 25% 1404 RPM. The CPU is at 55º with its fan speed at 25% at 1239 RPM. The app is showing 33-34 dB(A) 6" from the front. You can just hear a low hum from the laptop but not much else. I don't really hear air moving.
Setting offset to 10% to make them 35% the GPU fan is at 2002 RPM and CPU fan at 1745 RPM. The app is showing 38-39 dB(A) and the fan noise is obvious.
45% - GPU 2531 RPM - CPU 2185 RPM - 44-45 dB(A)
55% - GPU 2995 RPM - CPU 2576 RPM - 49-50 dB(A)
65% - GPU 3500 RPM - CPU 2995 RPM - 53-54 dB(A)
75% - GPU 3935 RPM - CPU 3333 RPM - 56-57 dB(A)
85% - GPU 4365 RPM - CPU 3686 RPM - 59-60 dB(A)
95% - GPU 4749 RPM - CPU 3986 RPM - 61-62 dB(A)
100% - GPU 5015 RPM - CPU 4187 RPM - 62.8-63.0 dB(A)
At 100% fan speed GPU temp is at 36º and CPU temp at 42º if that's important.
I never did a test like this before so hopefully the information is helpful. I did notice the GPU fan was slow to spin up. When I changed the offset the CPU fan would immediately increase but the GPU fan would drop and then slowly increase in speed until it got to the desired setting.
Edit: I figured I'd post what the dB(A) was with the laptop off since I needed to install the WiFi card and it shows 34-35 dB(A) in my room with no a/c and no fan and nothing making noise (I was holding my breath too lol) So I guess at idle the laptop is not really causing any additional noise to the app at least.
Edit 2: Fixed a typo (Changed CPU to GPU on the spin up thing) Also Fn 1 makes both fans go to 100% immediately I guess the GPU is just slow to get to the desired % with the app when you manually configure the offset.Last edited: Aug 7, 2020raz8020 and Mr.Screech like this. -

these Cinebench runs are, the former (3367) with stock settings in term of PLs,
Whilst the latter has been done with the lowered PLs in the screenshot, all with -100mV offset. The Aida stress test also ran perfectly with temps not even exceeding 81C.
The difference of slightly less than 100 points ought to indicate a bit more tuning can get you close to stock settings performance whilst keeping temperatures way in check, and without max fan noise.
I suppose the same , or similar , can be done via voltage tuning for the gpu. -
i also think the alienware was delidded and overclocked CPU and GPU
do you think with the i9 delid and a overclock it can match or beat the alienware ? -

In my old age I've kind of lost touch with the gaming world and am just now returning. I'm no stranger to technology but over the past 10 years my focus has shifted from having fun and gaming to being more focused on learning tools/skills to advance my career. Now that I'm happy with where my career is at I'm happy to have free time to step back into the gaming world so just trying to post what I can to help others while learning as much as I can.
I'm hoping to actually play a game after I'm done working for the day and see how it does in a real world test. Just need to figure which one it will be in my neglected steam library!

Also every time I reboot it loses my 2nd monitor. The OS thinks it's there and it appears in the display settings. Power cycling it doesn't do anything but if I unplug the cable and plug it back in the screen will come back on. I can also "disconnect this display" then revert the changes and it comes back on. Kind of annoying :-/
Also is it supposed to have an Insyde BIOS? It boots to an Insyde logo not a Clevo or Sager logo. I went back in to check and there's an option for "Overclocking Feature" and I assumed enabling that would be required for the CPU/GPU OC tools to work. It doesn't unlock any other features in the BIOS when I enable it. https://i.imgur.com/EdAkf0C.jpg
I made sure I was fully updated and reinstalled a bunch of drivers and the control center app and still crashes. I don't want to OC but was just curious about the app. It loads the GUI but then crashes https://i.imgur.com/H1E3ip4.pngLast edited: Aug 6, 2020 -

I wonder why Clevo capped the pipes so short. They don't cover the whole fin stack as they should. Not the biggie but this is half baked. Nothing stop them from max out pipes lenght over the fin stack.
raz8020 likes this. -
And the answer which Clevo would give:
-
Max loggesld gpu clock for Dell was 2040 mhz and for Clevo it was 1920 mhz. That extra +120 mhz and the margin of error can be the reason for the difference in graphics score. At least for Fire Strike.
