2 years assurance and dell offers 1year warranty which are 2 different pair of shoes, anyone can quote me wrong if im at mistake
-
-
oh. that made my head hurt
-
Ok i think i know what dell means with 1 year premium support,
You can call 24/7 and reach a technician and they also come to your house and fix it -
Yep. But the guarantee is 1 year which bugs me. Going to call them and see if they can clear that up for me.
-
Even without @Prema Magic the X170 still is on top of the ranking
Whole Europe (European Union) + many other countries have 2 years free warranty. Norway have 5 years free warranty.
What Dell offer is Premium support (day after services) for Premium price. In short (butter on bacon). They still have to follow Governments rules regarding fixing broken machines/products within stated warranty. It takes longer time but you will get your machine fixed without extra added costs. Remember Dell I an U.S company. And U.S have 1 years free warranty.

Agreed. Big selling factor at the moment. I'm watching the developments of this model closely.jclausius likes this.

I've just bought mine today from HIDevolution (EVOC but with all branding and logos removed). I got myself the 300Hz version with i9-10900K (to be delidded at home) and RTX 2080 Super. Let's see when I get it. I will share my findings here then.

Awesome !
When you get it can you please do a throughout testing to find out if the 300 hz panel also has the minor ghosting issue we were talking about regarding the 240 hz panel ?S.K likes this. -
Didn't you just say on sunday it's not worth upgrading yet? What made you change your decision? How do you delidd this cpu at home and reattach? Thank you!
-
How long did yours take to get to you?
-
I said that rightly for Area 51m but in this case I figured there will be no upgrade issues and I'll be able to sell my old machine for a good amount of money while it's still under warranty so I pulled the trigger. I had to upgrade anyway sooner or later but with the Area 51m I'd be stuck with an RTX 2080.Last edited: Sep 13, 2020jclausius and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Just ordered the other day so it's still in processing stage. But hopefully will get it within a week or so. Let's see.

For those curious about the light bar, I took a peek at how it works on the software side and investigated the issue with it not keeping the off state after startup. It most certainly can be addressed with an update, though I'm unsure if the boot effect can be as easily modified. I have a POC working at the moment, but I'm not sure of the specifics of sharing such a thing. For the time being, it's possible to be fixed

So here's a new bug to report. My end key keeps getting triggered. I don't use the laptop keyboard at all I have it hooked up to a USB hub and external monitors/keyboard/mouse. At least once or twice a day for the past 2 weeks, Windows would go wonky and I couldn't figure out what exactly was causing it. Everything would scroll down and rebooting wouldn't fix it. I'd have to wait for it to clear itself up. Today I figured it out, the actual end key on the laptop is being held down somehow. I inspected the key and it seems physically fine and there's nothing actually pushing it down. I have to open the laptop lid, tap the end key a few times, then it stops being stuck and I can get back to using the laptop. For now, I'm disabling the "Standard PS/2 Keyboard" in device manager as the other 4 being detected are all VID 1532 which is my Razer Black Widow. I guess if I need to use the laptop keyboard I can re-enable it but would love to know if anyone else is having this issue and how to go about resolving it properly.
Edit: Apparently Windows doesn't let you disable the Standard PS/2 Keyboard
Also I think this button is malfunctioning due to the heat being produced underneath it. The plastic around that button is extremely hot right now but the fans aren't noticeably loud. I'm going to open the lid and let some air over the keyboard to see if cooling it down stops the End key from malfunctioning.

You should ask for a replacement keyboard. Sounds like a manufacturing flaw.
-
I reached out to Sager support to see if I could get a replacement keyboard. Will report back how it goes. I noticed once I put the fans at 100% and opened the lid, the end key stopped being held down. It was happening a TON this morning b/c it's a bit warm in the house today so I guess maybe this is a design flaw and maybe others will have a similar issue in the future.
This image shows the end key directly above the heatsink/fan above the 3 SSDs so I wonder if the heat coming off the heatsink is damaging the keyboard which is in turn triggering it incorrectly send electronic signals to the system board? I know it wasn't a problem until about 2 weeks ago and I only notice it happening while working as outlook goes nuts as does teams and other programs that rely on me typing. I haven't noticed it in games but maybe the end key isn't mapped to anything in the games I play so it's ignored? -
Do you have some Kapton/mylar tape lying around? Try fasten it under the KB. In the area where the end cap button is. Mylar tape/foil is widely used on areas where heat become a problem.
Check also ssd temps while the problem occur. -
No I do not have any of that tape lying around. I might have to look for some on Amazon are there any you recommend? The problem has not occurred since I have opened the lid though the heat is still pretty bad in that area since I turned the fans back down. I'm not even gaming just have Office apps open trying to work on some spreadsheets /shrug
-
Just buy ordinary Kapton tape. You can tape up more than one layer if needed.

Generally a laptop is never designed to be used with the lid closed. At least some level of thermal ventilation takes place via the keyboard deck.DaMafiaGamer, Spartan@HIDevolution, raz8020 and 1 other person like this.

XMG permanently states to never leave clevo laptops lid closed under operation

I often use my p775tm with the lid closed, especially when connected with an external screen or beamer. Never had any problem. -
-
Good to know. Should it be open completely or is just opening it a little good enough? It sits in under/in front of my monitor so if I open it too much it will block the bottom of the screen.

Hmm, now I understand why the screen on my P775DM is like this:
Someones been using it with the damn lid closed
I don’t understand isn’t it common sense that having the lid closed under load would cause adverse effects? Especially on a laptop meant to be a desktop replacement? Makes me wonder who buys these laptops... -
Well aren't you just a ray of sunshine. I guess I'm completely lacking in common sense and shouldn't own a laptop

Watching a movie is not "under load". I don't game with the screen closed.
-
I guess that wasn't clear in the first message, whatever... question got answerd, how much you have to keep your lid open is trial and error..

I mean it depends on if your gaming with the lid down

So who are you blaming exactly for using your laptop with the lid down? Lots of people gaming on your laptop without your permission there?

I’m not blaming anyone here lol, the reason why I posted was to show evidence of why you shouldn’t do it

Just to make sure, you don't have any gamepad connected do you? I sometimes have this weirdness where things go crazy like some keyboard key is being held down. Turns out my Xbox controller was lying flat on its face where the joypads are and those were causing the selector on items to go up continuously. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You should never use the system with the screen down, really. The keyboard is an important air intake.

This below is Jokebooks doing almost nothing. Only Modern standby and with the lid closed. Closing the lid when you use your laptop have never been a good idea.
Microsoft Modern Standby is causing some XPS, Lenovo and Asus laptops to heat up like crazy -

These are high end machine where airflow is important. You don't stick a folder right in front of the main intakes of your desktop and get surprised when it overheats.

You want to never overheat? Put two bottlecaps under the backsides on the foot rests, done. You will never overheat.

Or use a big old laptop cooler like a Thermaltake Massive 20.DreDre likes this.

Most likely buying a 10900k, rtx 2080 super from my Chinese supplier. Got the RAM and ssds handy. I wonder would it boot with a Gtx 970m mxm

I like the Thermaltake Massive 20 for it's sheer size, solid build quality, metal grill and the humongous fan. And I got it dirt cheap in a black friday sale so nothing to complain here. It's been serving me well for almost 2 years now. Never used the RGB on it though.

LOL, question is how long will you own it? I've never seen anybody go through hardware like you do.
P870TM boots fine and works with a 970m w/ modded drivers. I suspect the 170 will too. Might as well test as many cards as you can while you have it in your possession.

I had the lid shut on mine for a couple of days, hooked up to 2 external displays, keyboard and mouse. Didn't seem to have any heat issues.
However, I also have it on a stand with adjustable angles, so I gave it a 45 degree angle for plenty of air flow underneath -
Yah, no overheating issues on this machine. Been playing tonnes of games on it with no issues.
