    @wwoods, that is very, very odd.

    @ike, I'm using the std bag from Clevo. It does the job for me (to and from work). If you want something a little more, ppl on this thread have recommended the Targus XL, Alienware Orion, and Mobile Edge Premium backpack.

    yeh its abit more under the radar then stuff with AW logo on it
    did you look at the vid on the page i linked to
    trust me its even more room then you think after seeing the vid and i love that they added a zip in the bottom with a rain cover inside
    you only need the cover for heavy rain if its just drisiling its no need

    Hey, that is actually a nice backpack. I was gonna buy this one but that one looks like it has more room. The good thing about the Eagle Creek:
    But I'm not sure if the Eagle Creek can fit the PSU.

    I used my Slappa Ballistix Aura and it works well. Fits the x7200 and PSU with room to spare.

    Have brought it through TSA several times and it's been a breeze to handle.

    here in Europe you need to take out the laptop all the time with or without TSA approved sleeve atleast when the laptop is of this size

    Hope so, its not that I dont like the AW bag, but like I said it just screams "this contains a expensive laptop...steal me". Plus a backback is a bit easier to carry than a bag when weighed down.

    Slappa Koa.

    This is what I carry in the Koa to and from work every day. Also through the airport 2 times per week.

    7280, 1 PSU, mouse, sunglasses in hard case, Sennheiser px-100 headphones, wallet, iphone, novel (paperback or hardback), external hard drive in soft case, 6ft ethernet cable, 10slot credit card holder (for all my frequent travel cards), 1 quart ziplock bag full of cables and connectors, 2 usb sticks, gum, earbud headphones in small cloth bag, small prescription pill bottle, small mouse pad. After all of this I could put a couple of notebooks in there and some odds and ends. I am not using all of the available space.

    The lie flat is great going through airport security so I don't have to take out the laptop. About 1/3 of the time TSA will want to examine the laptop since it is so enormous.

    This might be an inappropriate question for this thread, but does anyone know how easy it is to replace an older cpu from the x7200 chasis with, say, a 980? I know the hardware is pretty easy to get access to considering it's a laptop. Lastly, what material will i need for the process of a cpu swap? Thanks guys.
    P.S. I also use the AW bag, love it. never had to remove it from the sleeve besides once in europe.

    I do not speak from firsthand experience, but shouldn't be too much of a problem.

    Materials needed:
    CPU, Thermal Interface Material and a TIM cleaner.

    Process:
    a) Disassemble the chassis and remove the CPU. See pg 2-7 of the x7200 Service Manual from the Drivers/BIOS link below.

    b) Clean the CPU heatsink using the TIM remover.

    c) Install CPU

    d) Apply TIM to CPU and reverse the disassembly process.

    I have a mobile edge, but this one (related product to the one you posted):

    Amazon.com: MobileEdge Mobile Edge - 17.3" Alienware Orion Backpack - ScanFast (ME-AWBP2.0): Computer & Accessories

    I love this thing... I use it for all my daily commutes (even without the x7200) because it has enough room for my 1-3 work laptops depending on what I take home with me.

    Absurdly easy, quicker than any laptop or even desktop ive worked with. Remove the back cover, unscrew the heatsink (7 screws all together, if I remember), pull out the heatsink. Take out the current cpu, put the new cpu back in, paste it. Reverse steps to put the heatsink back on. Detailed instructions are in the owner's manual. Should take less than 5 minutes after youve done i
    T once.

    I use isoprylalcohol to remove paste and artic mx-4 as the paste.

    One caveat is to be careful tightening the 4 screws around the socket. You can strip them if you give them too much torque.

    thanks a lot dude, I appreciate it. I just wanted to make sure there were no issues with it. the people at malibal seemed privy to want to do it themselves, because they said it was different than a normal tower cpu, but I didn't really buy it.

    I need to retract the driver blame, I ran some HD tests and it turned out the drive had some physicaly bad sectors, getting it RMA'd as we type....

    So, wasnt the drivers, was a bad physical sector on the disk.

    After reading AW forums for quite a time now, i gave up buying a m18x because of the major issues with it´s prodruction. It seems that EVERYONE has at least one little problem with it.

    I want to knhow if the same thing happens with x7200 SLI Enabled notebooks or if i can buy rested that i wont be talking with repair guys anytime soon.

    Thanks.

    Well, mine has been pretty flawless honestly, I had some major raid5 issues early on, but that was not due to the 7200, it was due to useing a specific type of disk in raid5 array. I would say go for it. Great system

    I don't think the 275.50 drivers are working too well with the SLI setup. Did you try it with the one in the link below...

    @ikethegreat:

    The relatively low score in Vantage could be the result of using the latest version of Vantage, 1.1.0. Since this version the GPU-Physix is standard disabled during benching. You should look at the GPU score. These should be > 22k for GTX485M SLI.
    For my new GTX485 SLI setup (previously GTX460M SLI :D ) I got:

    3dMark Vantage (1.1.0): GPU 22.207
    3dMark11 (1.0.2): P5744, GPU 5892
    Unigine Heaven (@1280x1024): fps 78, scores 1962

    What Max. Temps are you getting during these benches ?

    After installing the drivers linked above, I reran the benchmarks.

    3Dmark06 - 19970 -> 19623
    3D Vantage - P21648 -> P21368 (gpu - 22113, cpu - 19407)
    3Dmark11 - P5564 -> P5647
    (Used the default free edition settings)

    So all scores except 3dmark11 went down. CPU temps maxed at 82C and GPU temps maxed at 77C.

    Looks like my scores are pretty in line with Cyberhank, so I guess they arn't as low as I thought.

    I think the scores are pretty normal, mostly because of the CPU - the most benches here are done with I7-980/990X or are overclocked, you always get a better result then, therefore the GPU-score is the most important score to compare. 3DMark06 is very CPU-demanding, so this is why it seems "so low" ;).
    Don´t worry, in most games you will not note any difference...

    So now that I've gotten my 7280 and decided I liked it and definitely want to keep it, I'm debating whether or not I should up the warranty to 3 years for an extra $250.

    What kind of warranty did you guys get and do you think it is worth $250 for an extra two years of part warranty?

    This is kinda like asking what is your favorite desert? I think you'll get a lot of different answers on this one.

    For me, I added the 2 yr extended warranty, as after two years it will be time to start thinking about the next laptop.

    Who will prompt, what ssd will be better for Clevo X7200 Kingston HyperX 120gb (SH100S3/120G) or Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 120gb (MKNSSDCR120GB-DX).
    +++ for Kingston hyperX:
    1) Intel on the basis of technical process 25-nanometer (5000 cycles "programming/deleting")
    2) Rating PCMARK® Vantage HDD Suite — 81196 (I never saw at one ssd those results)
    3) IOPS: 95,000 - 70000 (4K random write, 4K aligned)
    +++ for Mushkin Deluxe:
    1) MTBF 2 000 000 (hyperX have 1 000 000)
    2) speed read and write 560 and 515 (hyperX have 555 and 510)
    3) IOPS 90000
    The only thing, what I don't know, on what chips of flesh-storage is constructed Mushkin Chronos Deluxe?

    The controller in X7200 is limited to SATA2 speeds, so you will be wasting your money on a faster ssd. Just grab a pair of Crucial M4 and RAID them = performance + stability for decent price. 2cents

    I was wondering, why are we not able to run more than 1066 ram with the lower end CPU? I have 1600 running on my desktop with a i7 920, and I know for a fact it runs that fast, AND benchmarks recognize it, and is as fast as it should be. Also, any news of the 6990 going into this beauty? Id love to have a Xfire setup, I mean the SLI 485m is only 2500 now ( only :rolleyes: ) and was like 3300 before the 580m rolled around. Even with one 6990 it's going to run around 2100ish single GPU config with blue ray.

    From what I have seen Nv released a really good driver for the whole 580 series, looks like the 580m gained about 8% on most things, not sure what they did. I still wouldn't pay $300 more for that card, I still have some bad blood about the whole Gtx280m / Gtx260m rebrand thing. Plus the 280m never had a successor other than the 480m, I don't remember why they never used a GT 200 core, maybe ATI still hadn't picked up any steam in the mobile market?

    Either way I feel like we all were victims of a stagnant GPU market, and had to pay a premium for hardly any performance over the 9800mGtx, oh and remember the 8800mGtx? the 280m is what..15% faster than the 8800mGtx in most games? vantage says around 25%, but still that's not much for over 2 years of waiting. So the 580m is looking alot like this all over again, at least the 9800mGtx had a shader count increase and not just a clock speed increase. whether they're different cores or not, I still can't fathom why Nv didn't at least unlock another shader block?

    If anyone knows anything on this please tell me, but you know what though? I am jumping for joy seeing Nv pricing that..." upgrade " 580m roughly $350 more than the 485m with which you can get the same performance with a clock speed increase, but it's the " new " chip Nvidia says. But here comes AMD on their ( Red ) horse with the 6990m and we see Nvidia as the company they have been in the past, trying to charge huge premiums for basically an overclock.

    If I build raid I will receive a minimum of a gain of productivity thus lose much more, such as TRIM and stability with reliability. Can be as that it is possible there let to integrate even from the computer pci-e or it is simple pci cards of controlers sata3?
    What connectors are inside clevo X7200 on the motherboard?

    Kolich,

    The 1st edition of the x7200 has no PCI/PCI-E/Express Cards. The 2nd edition allows for a single 34mm Express Card.

    In regards to the motherboard, what are you looking for? There are two SATA (3Gbps) connectors along with various LED, fan, Audio, Keyboard, Fingerprint sensors, etc. That plus the memory / CPU / GPU slots.

    Detailed information can be found in the x7200 service manual (pages 1-10 through 1-11). See the BIOS/Drivers page in my sig for the document.
