Just checking....did anyone here with the 580M's in SLI try the new 280.26 WHQL drivers yet with some benches?![]()

For those non-SLI users, I've been using the drivers since early this morning.
Had a dreaded blue screen late this morning. As I was away from the laptop, I couldn't tell you what happened, but the crash seemed to be related to something in memory rather than the driver itself. -
i tried 280.19
very interesting.............11 gpu score, 980x@3c6t is higher than 6c12t(ive ran both 3 times, not deviation)
-
So both are 280.19, but 3cores yields a higher GPU score???
-
I correctly understand, what the notebook has no slots, except as express card? Isn't present pci and pci-e?
-
No PCI or PCI-E connections for the x7200 laptop motherboard. AFAIK, there are no PCI / PCI-E cards that would even fit within any laptop due to form factor/size requirements For laptops outside of MxM, most cards were first PCMCIA, then PC Card, and now ExpressCard. There is an E-SATA port on the outside of the laptop's case, but that is directly soldered on to the motherboard on the inside.
Again, refer to the service manual as it will show all available ports available from the case as well as ports on the motherboard. -
the GF114 which is what the GTX580m is built from(also called a GTX560ti on desktops) only has 384 shaders at maximum. They cannot unlock what isn't there. To have gotten more shaders they would have needed to move to a GF110 core which has crazy tdp levels and is probably just impossible to cram into a laptop. Also supposedly the GTX580m has better power management being based on the GF114 vs GF104.5 in the 485m. However, yes nvidia is bad at rebranding in the mobile market.
-
Hey, Does anyone know how you can make the NP7280 support ATA password, so I can utilize an encrypted fde hardrive?
-
so you dont know gtx480m(gf100) quadro 5000m(gf100) quadro 5010m(gf110)?
-
I know that the gtx480m ran at comically slow speeds(425/850/2400) compared to the 485m(575/1150/3000) which was based on the better suited 104. The 5010 also has to do the same thing at 450/900/2600. Also keep in mind due to the design of the GF110 vs 114 the 5010 has much lower Gtexels/s due to it only have 48 texture units vs the 64 of the GTX580m. Don't forget the core clock on a GTX580m is 620/1240/3000 further widening the gap in texture output and memory bandwidth which are two crucial numbers in gaming. Basically what I am saying is yes it seems they can put the 110 or 100 in a laptop but at massive cost to performance. The 104/114 are just better more power efficient designs and that can be seen in the performance numbers they can create. Also worth noting is the 5010 still has 384 shaders but 16 less texture units and is clocked lower and still has a TDP of 100watts. Basically I doubt more shaders could be had in a laptop given the current chips available to nvidia, gonna have to wait for the next generation at 28nm(?).
However, I will admit to not knowing these cards existing I relied purely on my knowledge of the architecture to make my previous posts and after looking them up it seems i was still mostly correct.
also wall of text sorry. -
It is a pity that it is impossible of this kind a card http:// www.sybausa.com/productInfo.php? iid=1104¤tPage=2 to build in in a notebook ((((
Very much it would be desirable sata3 to have..... Can at whom there are what ideas to "combine" a notebook with sata3 the controler? -
After 6+ months of ownership I have to say this is the best laptop I have ever owned hands down - the only issue I would have is that the sound is definitely underwhelming given its got a bazillion speakers, 5.1 surround etc. Good headphones make up for it, but if you're going to haul around a laptop that weighs more than a 2 year old kid you want the best possible
-
Wow, I hate mine. Went back to using my 9750, but that died again so stuck using this.
-
Sorry to be frank, but that is just the state of any laptop. Either you could buy a desktop if you keep wanting to use desktop components or find a different laptop model with the SATA 6Gbps controller you are looking for.
-
Why do you hate yours? I've had mine a couple weeks now and absolutely love it.
-
Where do I start?
1. The power cord is too short. Which makes it as portable as a desktop, at twice the price.
2. The volume is way to low.
3. The fans are way too loud, and run constantly on and off, on and off.
4. The battery life is too short (even with SLI disabled).
5. You need a screwdriver to take out the battery.
6. Does not support FDE (encrypted) hard drives.
7. The screen is just ok, not good enough for a high end model (Alienware from 4 years ago had higher resolution).
8. I see no way to disable/uninstall WebCam in Device manager (I don't trust the button on the keyboard to disable it against remote access).
9. Power button is placed perfectly to shut the computer off accidentally every time you lift the laptop. I had to disable it.
To top it all off, my keyboard died (under very light usage), and I have to replace it. The warrantee doesn't cover my time used to deal with replacing it. -
I think the power button is awesome :-D
-
-
i only unhappy with this one
-
Oh and
10. You can't shut the blue lights off on the back of the cover (Sager) or on the keyboard/mousepad. -
I can't say any of those things really bother me. At least not enough to say I hate this laptop. Seems a bit nitpicky to me.
-
PPPeterCT,
I know you've talked about wanting a longer distance b/w the PSU brick and laptop earlier in this thread. And as stated earlier, of the three different Clevo/Sager's I've owned, the length has stayed constant. But I understand this didn't meet your expectations.
In regards to the fans, what surface is the latptop on and what BIOS are you running? On a hard, flat suface with the latest BIOS, my x7200 fans seem to run at a constant low hum. Less noticeable than any desktop.
Now, if I'm doing something like a large compilation, it may go through a couple of cycles of spinning up for a short burst and then go back to the low hum.
In regards to the battery, the battery screws are just "thumb-tight" and I can take them out with just the pressure and rotation of my thumb. If that doesn't work, try a penny!
Sorry to hear about your keyboard. Do you know if it died or did it just become disconnected underneath? A solution may be simple as popping the keyboard and reconnecting the cable/ribbon. -
none of the issues he listed bother me at all. I don't think the power cord is short at all, although a 10lb weight halfway through probably makes it seem small.
I read reviews that complained about fan noise levels, but I can't say it's too bad at all. I owned an everex 17" laptop that was much louder.
I think consumer awareness prior to purchasing is important with something like this. I read everything on the internet I could find about this, and therefore I feel I had realistic expectations when I received mine. -
^^ Exactly
-
Thanks for the thoughtful response.
I don't understand why the cord doesn't bother people, but if they like expensive "desktops", enjoy.
I just loaded the latest bios. I'll see how the fans go. I run it on a flat surface (stand with bottom holes also).
Only some keys don't work, so it is plugged in.
Know the secret to shutting blue lights off? -
Sorry, I don't know how to turn it off. I've seen other laptops that you can disable and change the color within the BIOS, but I've never seen anything within the x7200 BIOS.
I suppose if it was really bothersome, one could go through the Service manual, find the right cable, and disconnect it from the motherboard's pin-out. -
Other than the issues people have that I find to be rather petty,
is there anything majorly wrong with the system in your honest opinions? I am talking about "Alienware Failure" kind of problems where the laptop had to be taken back and you were given corporate jibber jabber on what is and what isn't.
I noticed that the sales reps for Sager have been members of this forum and give a trust like feel to the whole thing.
I really love this machine, I have found little to no complaints about it.
jclausius, I noticed in your specs that you used a single GPU configuration as apposed to a capable SLi... Is there a reason for this?
Thanks,
ALPHA -
I have nothing bad to say about this system at all, I push it to its limits at work (I use it for work) and I also game on it, so, I can say I have put it through its paces and I like it a lot. Matter of fact, it took a 4 foot fall from overhead storeage today on Amtrack, and no damage at all (yea, I went through it with a fine tooth comb after that).
The only issues I have EVER had with this were due to a very rare disk configuration I was useing. Wasnt the systems fault either, the disks I had choose were not meant for a raid5.
As fore the reps here, I can only speak to Xotic's rep, they are great, but then again, it can probably be said about most of the reps here. -
Prompt please from what alloy or metal heat sinks on a video card and the notebook processor clevo x7200 are made?
I want to apply thermopaste from coollaboratory liquid pro. -
So my box just started up with random reboots again (EventID41). I have usually seen this happen after a video driver update but haven't updated recently. I was wondering if it was a heat issue so I did some dusting. When I flipped my machine over there were 3 grills over the heatsinks but one spot was covered. Aren't all 4 of those spots supposed to be grills? When I remove the panel there are definitely 4 heatsinks under there. Would that be my problem? Thanks for any help.
-
Its designed that way for force air to be drawn through the laptop to cool the memory and HDD's better. So thats not a mistake, if you knock that out then you will cool the CPU a bit, but at the expense of quite hot HDD's and Memory as there is no air drawn through the laptop.
-
Thinking about joining the crew and picking up a x7200. However, this model has been out for a few months now and I was wondering if an update, or new gpus were due soon (going for the 6990's in CF). I'm willing to wait a couple months if that's the case.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
There isn't really anything new coming for a few months. The successor to the x7200 is at least 4 months off and no new GPU's are on the immediate horizon...

plz answer my question
-
Makes sense. Thanks for explaining that. I will continue trying to track down reasons for my random crashes.
-
all contact surface=copper
-
thx a lot of
-
ALPHA,
Sure... I don't need it. I don't game except on an XBOX and PS/2. I only need this machine as a state of the art, software producing, QA running system.
I earn my keep writing software for a living. For that, I need a super fast CPU, semi-fast IO, and a system capable of different compilers, OSs, Virtual Machines, databases, browsers etc. And since I telecommute or may need to make a customer visit, I need portability. The X7200 meets all of these criteria. -
In regards to Kolich's question, wasn't there someone here who was using Liquid Metal Pro on the x7200? lawtq or torment78?
-
it was lawtq and he was realy happy with it last time we spoke
-
@wwoods
did you get the Everki ?
and did you like it ?
and the space was enuff -
Ха! Children! And you have temperatures with regular thermopaste???
Simply as I will use to it(coolaboratory), I will lay out temperatures CPU and GPU, me on how many less temperature on a video card most of all interests at usage of Liquid Metal? -
I now wait for sending since day per day from the USA clevo x7200 to Russia =) and I will achieve records in overclocking
-
You may want to check out some recorded temps and ask lawtq (around 30+ posts into the thread) about Liquid Metal Pro - http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...33-tempurature-analysis-comparison-x7200.html
-
I will mandatory write in this subject about the results.
And at present what coldest temperature at clevo x7200? -
There really isn't one, as that would depend on the user's environment. For instance, I'll bet I could get some really good temps in down in Antarctica.
In any case, just under 4GHz OC'ing load, some ppl are seeing 89+ C in regards to CPU. -
Would any X7200 owner mind downloading and installing AIDA64 (the updated version of Everest) and see if their motherboard is SLi Certified? You can check this if you go under Motherboard > ACPI. Somewhere it should say something about nVidia or SLi (Not to be confused with SLIC). I would greatly appreciate this if someone can do this.
You can download the tool here:
AIDA64 | PC Benchmark | System Diagnostics | Network Inventory -
here u go~
-
Yup, got it 3 days before went to Chicago. Worked great, plenty of space.
