So, I was chatting with a few buddies who are windows server admins and they suggested that MS Dynamic Disks in a raid1 mirror might out perform a raid1 mirror in intel RST, and well, ya know I had to test it.

The tests are as identical as I could make them. In the case of the Intel RST I let the raid 1 initialise then rebooted andwaited 5 mins.

In the case of the dynamic disks, they initialised automatically after creating, then I rebooted and waited 5 mins.

The disks in both cases are WD Scorpio blacks, 750GB.

Let the numbers say what they will:

Is there any update on the 680m working on the 7280. I want to see if it works and some benchmarks if it is worth it to upgrade.

    Thanks.

There is no update yet about the 680m but the 7970m i supose to work good or great and the upgrade is prob not wurth the 1200$ per card they are charging and thats only the card no heatzink
wile 7970m goes for 1120$ for 2 upgrade kitts for x7200/np7280
and what we have seen so far the 680m is max -5% to +10%
some games wurs than 7970m some better

Sorry I am not interested in AMD post ATI cards. I run Autocad Civil 3d and from experience and feedback from fellow peers nvidia geforce runs cad better than AMD. Quadro's are out of the question since I game as much as I work with cad. I would rather stick with my 485m's than switch to AMD.

OK I am having a hard time explaining some benchmark numbers here. Useing CrystalDisk Mark I see a benchmark of , call it "X". if I raid1 mirror the exact same drives, the benchmarks are about x-20% (The INtel RST driver is the latest),

if I use MS Dynamic Disks to raid1 mirror them, the benchmark is X, same as a single disk. Can anyone explain why ? this makes no sence

It makes no sence that the INtel RST driver would be almost 20% slower

What are my upgrade options for my system? The only thing i have replaced were the 485m's, and that was pretty simple for a non-tech like myself. I read in places that the cpu is often a bottleneck and was wondering if i have options there at all? Any input is appreciated. Take care.

I was wondering if the x7200 can be upgraded yet with dual 7970ms and, if so, are there any caveats.

So my fans are always on full power even though the temp is at 39-CPU, 29-GPU1, 31-GPU2. The fans aren't even set to Full ON in the BIOS. I reset the CMOS battery but it's still on full speed when it comes to the fan. I did a FurMark test and the laptop shuts down when the cards hit 68*C. I ended up undervolting the CPU and disabling Turbo Boost just to see if it would help keep the power draw within the 1 PSU's capability. But the same thing happened - shut down. The screen also randomly just blacks out, like when you are about to start a game, and then the beeping starts after all that it shuts down. I reseated everything thinking it was one of the hardware, memtest86+, test 1 gfx card at a time but the fans are still at full power even though I'm just browsing. Any ideas on what could be causing it to behave like that?

Fans should not be spooling up at those idle temps.

What is your vcore on CPU and GPUs running at? Sounds like you're right in your suspicsion there is a power suck somewhere...

So I have a Intel RST question. How does RST monitor drives/arays ? is it via SMART data or ? also, lets assume drives are NOT in a Intel RST based array, will RST still show errors with the drives, for example, can one use RST to monitor drives health even if there NOT in a Intel RST array ?

11.5 enabled TRIM, and no it won't work as there are two different pieces to make it work. The OS driver, which you can install and there is a BIOS module that has to be updated. So unless you get a BIOS update with the newer module then it won't enable the new features.

    Myth,

Since Clevo discontinued this machine, is it safe to say there will **not** be a Clevo/Sager BIOS release which incorporates the required Intel BIOS update for the RAID controller; therefore, TRIM over RAID 0 will never be an option with the updated Intel RST drivers on the x7200?

Is it possible to flash just the RAID controller's BIOS or is it incorporated in the entire x7200 BIOS? If it is just one monolithic BIOS, is it capable to get our hands on JUST the intel BIOS portion? I'm wondering if we extracted the BIOS from the last known x7200, and then with the help of someone like Prema, replace the current RAID controller BIOS w/ the newly updated one, and recombine the whole thing.

Apparently never buy a notebook top as the proposed upgrade has lost its meaning since the new vgas gtx680m 7970m and are not supported by 7280-7282 is a shame that spending thousands of dollars in a notebook which I can not upgrade from VGA .
This time the Clevo / Sager screwed up.

 Not sure where you're getting the info.

I don't believe anyone's tried it, but Eurocom and I thought one other reseller or builder have already posted in this thread the AMD 7970m works with the NP7280/x7200. Has anyone here bought one and posted results? Nope. So at this time, all we have is what has been posted.

In regards to the nVidia GTX60m, we're waiting on is word if the does or does not work. Conflicting reports have been posted.

Myth, if you come across this thread, do you have any news regarding the 680m in an x7200?

    Hey

Yea there won't be any more BIOS updates for this one. Also this one uses the older style BIOS that can't be changed as easily. So getting the newer option ROM into it will be pretty close to not ever happening :)

For the newer cards, actually we we're going to request soon if someone had a X7200 R2 that they would maybe consider letting us borrow for a little bit (couple days) that we would use to shove a 680 (or 2) and 7970m (or 2) into to see what really worked.

    thanks!

to refer to the earlier topic - i am actually having a lot of trouble removing those 4 screws from the CPU area, they won't actually come out, and they aren't apparently the type that stay inside since the heatsink is still definitely bolted on by something. I removed the 3 other screws besides those 4 but yea its totally bolted down still.

I used the manual of course, i don't think this is a common problem i have literally scoured the internet for anyone with a similar problem and its apparently just my laptop ? To better explain the situation:
all the manual says is that i must "remove the screws". however it certainly is not that simple for me, and I am not sure if that's similar with anyone else. If i try loosening them, they will get loose, but will never be able to be "removed". The heatsink thus will not "gently lift off" the laptop, but rather stay bolted down by something -probably the screws.

The thermal paste is acting as a type of 'glue'. Just lift up with some force and it will come off. Try to lift with one hand while holding the GPU down with the other. You'll get it.

Used. Yes. New. Not hardly - this one comes from the land Down Under as well and w/ out any components - Clevo X7200;17.3" FHD GT Barebone;without VGA/CPU/RAM/HDD/ODD; SLI/CF Support | eBay $1275.00

Yes, but inside a VM. Not a big fan of the Metro change right now. Find myself going to the desktop so many times, that it would be easier leaving me at the desktop for the main UI.

hi m8 the 4 screws on the cpu heatzink cant be removed you should simply unscrew them untill you feel that they are not threded any more then disconnect the 2 cables then use the small plastik band as a handel and pull if you had ICD pase on there it be stuck like fu.. put one hand on bottom of lapto then pull with the other
the paste makes a vacume betven the cpu and the heatzink same prisiple as if you have to flat pieces of glas put them together with some water betven then try pull them apart :)
the screws are spring loaded so underneath the heat zink you will after you get it off see that the screws are locked in position by lock rings and chould not be removed

That raid driver listed there is for desktop boards.......will that work in ours ? Anyone running it ? benefits ? dwarbacks ?

Also, was mentioned earlier by Myth I think, that we wont get TRIM over raid because it requires a BIOS update for the RAID portion of the ROM ? Myth, are you sure ? got a URL to link ?
