That problem I had some weeks ago, too.
One RAM slot is defective... in BIOS, there were only 8 GB instead of 12 (3x 4 GB), in windows it said there were 12 GB but only 8 usable.
At the same time, the CPU was defective, too. One core wasn´t working well.
It seemed the notebook had some kind of short circuit fault...
Now with a new CPU and letting that RAM slot be empty (now using 2x 8 GB) everything is back to normal!
I didn´t look at the PIN´s - maybe I should look at my defective CPU to look at this, but why would the RAM slot get defective at the same time...
-
Good points. But the pins are actually on the mobo, and not the CPU its self so it sounds like the pin could be the source of the RAM issue. My RAM slot must have just up and died.
I think I'm going to fork over the money for a new mobo. Hopefully it will have better results with CPU stability. Just seems sad to have an 8GB RAM stick in there going to waste
.
So you never did get the RAM working? Do you remember which slot it was? It seems to be my middle RAM slot.
It irks me to have something that is not 100% working -

Your signature also says you're on Windows 7 Ultimate, just wanted to double check that as Home only recognizes 16GB. -
Thanks. I was testing last night. All testing pointed to the center RAM slot. Right now I'm on Win 7 Pro as im having issues with the Win Ult upgrade. Up till yesterday I didn't have the ram issues and all 24GB was usable.
Out of curiosity, would you have any X7200 mobos for sale new or used, and at what price?
I think my CPU stability issues may also be mobo related. Or that may be a chip issue but I'd need to test further.

I tried all kind of exchanging ram and ram slots... always with the same result.
Since my new CPU doesn´t have any problems, it cannot be the pin on the mobo - otherwise, that CPU wouldn´t work, too.
I am using W7 HP, so my system will recognize only 16 GB, which are enough for me, so I can let the defective RAM slot empty without regretting it. -
Hmm...may leave the empty ram slot empty...but it'll nag at me
What's the highest cpu overclock anyone with a 980x/990x is running? What temps? How stable? I'm looking for something stable with a 100% load on the cpu 24/7. Using this for Folding@home.
Right now I'm at 3.4GHz base clock at 100% load topping out at 81*C. Forgot the voltage, probable around 1.250v or close to it.

Finally took a break from Folding@home to run some quick benchmarks. Here is what I came up with. Not bad for being two generations old.
Vantage: 29046
3DMark11: 7043
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-980X Processor,CLEVO CO. X7200 score: P7043 3DMarks -
stock 1,25v core voltage?
-
Did you overclock using XTU? What core, uncore voltage etc for 4Ghz?
-
i am 4.13GHZ
fsb 133 vcore1.35 300W 300A 31x all cores

I run Folding@home a lot and it uses the CPU 100% load, so it doesn't use turbo, so I run it at a 3.5GHz base clock at 25x. This was I can keep temps to around 82°C under 100% load for days at a time. I'd love to have a 990x just for bragging rightslol
I had the uncore voltage at 1.295 or the next option higher in the bios. Then I had the Flex VID overide set at 35 or 36. I had IOH Voltage set at 1.2
I had the bus speed set to 7 in the bios. Don't remember the exact option it's called but its for OCing the FSB in the bios. So this setting gave me a 3.5GHz base clock and 3.78GHz with turbo boost. (FSB@ 140MHz, 27*140MHz=3.78GHz)
I increased the flex VID override high because I then used SetFSB to increase the FSB from 140MHz to 149MHz. This gave me a base speed of 3.725GHz at 25x, and with turbo 4.023GHz at 27x. (multiplier)
Again I didn't have much numbers to go by and test since I only had an hour to bench my system
I wish there was a way to make it use turbo boost when under 100% load rather than just sticking to a multiplier of 25 under 100% load. Is there a way to do this? Did I miss something? IF I can do this, it would help with my Folding@home point production. Let me know if anyone knows a way to change this. -
No use 24/7.
Use 4.0ghz to play games.
not 100% load.
No bluecreem.
Play bf3 início 6hs continuos -

Thats more along the lines of what I was expecting!
Hopefully tonight I'll get some time to run some benches. What are your bios voltage/flex settings? Also how are you OCing the CPU? Just by upping the mutiplier? I tried upping the TDP/TDC and it didn't do much. But maybe thats because I as running wPrime and so it at 100% load it doesn't use turbo boost. If increasing the multiplier, the TDP increase would help when the system engages turbo boost.
The 920XM/940XM was unlocked in the M17x R2, and so at 100% load, it would still utilize turbo boost. That doesn't seem to be the case with the 980X though -

The desktop original I7s had really no turbo boost to speak of, only a single bin for 4 cores and above, so it likely is but wont make much of a difference.

vcore is 35 on bios= 1,35v
300W 300A
mpx =30x
running in dual PSU 300w x2 PSU -
Thanks guys,
@pauloimp, I guess my question is in the bios, which option are you using to increase the vcore? I know there is the Flex VID override, and the uncore. I'm guessing your using the flex VID override, since XTU shows your uncore voltage at default 1.195.
Any idea what uncore voltage is? -
values in bios.
View attachment 89089 -
Ok, thats what I thought it was, Flex VID. Thats what I use when I increase the FSB. I found the increasing the FSB will give it a higher speed at 100% load. Currently I have it running Folding@home which runs the CPU at 100% on all 12 threads, and loaded, it's running 3.500GHz. Turbo is 3.7GHz
-
This is what I was able to pull off tonight. I need more time to tweak, and better cooling. It's just real warm in my apt at the moment. Got the heat going.

That is some RAW power man, holy, the X7200 is going STRONG :O

Thanks. Yea this thing is a beast. And I'm more and more impressed with these GPUs too.

The 485M was a strong return for nvidia back to a competitive high end mobile GPU and it's still a very nice card.
-
test vid 33 for lower temps and repaste i am using AS5 -
Yea, I had the VID way high since I was messing with 3DMark06. For Vantage it doesn't need to be as high as I had it since it loads the CPU 100% it doesn't turbo boost. Generally I run with 33VID when using F@h with a FSB OC to 140MHz. This was I fold at 3.5GHz on 100% load. Temps generally max out at 83°C but ambient temp makes a big differance. Right now it's pasted with ICD.
-
Holy crap, never thought you could push the GTX 485m´s so high!
I never could overclock them that much... but yes, they were and are strong GPU´s.
Interesting how REAL overclockers can manage nearly every setup and make them better and better... -
ohhhhh yeaa thats nice.

Actually I didn't use any additional core voltage. I did try a few differant vBios' that were modded for extra voltage, but I wasn't able to OC any higher so I dumped them. Those clocks are on the standard stock voltage of 1.0v. With extra voltage, I didn't seen any benefit
I was hoping to hit 750MHz on the core, but not able. I may retry the overvolted vbios again though.

Oh with 1V they had a higher core voltage than the 570 or 580 anyway which explains the clocks.

Repasted CPU & GPUs, end up it sloved the over heating but Battery is Causing my notebook to not boot and flashing indicators.
would battery cause notebook errors? -
I had the problem (doesn´t power on on battery, but if I powered it on with ac and then run on battery, it would run) soon after I purchased the notebook, the motherboard was replaced by warranty.
It had nothing to do with the battery, but with a connector located on the motherboard, as far as I remember. -
You guys should join in for the NBR foldathon. Those hex core and quad core CPUs and Nvidia cards would do really well. There are also so nice prizes awarded in a random drawing to the participants. AMD cards will work well too. Its only a week long and every little bit helps!

Thank you Tirenz -
Let me know what price they ask for a mobo. I want one. I have 24GB RAM in my system but one day it dropped 8 GB. The middle RAM dimm seems to have died

Tirenz,
Have you done a lot of memory swapping over the lifetime of your x7200? Had 3 x 4GB sticks at time of purchase well over 26+ months ago. I haven't touched them, and haven't had any kind of problem with memory. -
No, I didn´t do a lot of memory swapping - I only added 1x 4 GB RAM - initially got 2x 4 GB, so there was room for another stick and so I added one... After that, I never touched it again...
-
Thanks for the answer. Just curious if perhaps one of those times rocked the solder points or something.
Regardless, I don't think this is too prolific a problem as I don't believe I've seen too many reports of this on a wide scale in regards to the x7200. Hope someone can find a mobo replacement for your issue. -

Hmmm... A conspiracy against our European cousins?

I wonder if it was a certain batch of boards used in the EU, not many would be made.
