I'm thinking its hardware. I did a clean install and even before installing drivers or software it was having issues![]()

Dumb question but you did install the X58 chipset drivers?
-
Yea, I think anyhow. I was given a resource disk with drivers on it and I installed that. I'll have to give it another shot when I get some more patience. I'll look for the X58 drivers on the Intel site. Right now I've stuck the system in the closet, as I ran out of patience last night.
-
Well wasn't able to find X58 drivers on the intel site or searching.
Has anyone with an X7200 had any hardware failures? If so what type? What symptoms were displayed?
Is it possible the X7200 just hates the Intel X-25M SSDs? I think it may also happen with the X-25V as I use that as my benching drive.
Here are my symptoms, when I try and run Acronis through a bootable USB to re-image an SSD, it will freeze with caps lock and scroll lock blinking. When I try and boot Linux Mint from a USB, it will give me a Kernal Panic error, and the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock will be blinking. In both cases the Num Lock is not on or flashing.
When in Windows, I get random BSOD. Sometimes points to a logitech driver, though I unistalled the logitech software. Using Logitech Performance MX mouse). Sometimes it points to the Nvidia drivers, I've tried updating the GPU drivers. Just seems real random.
As of right now I have run the windows DOS memory test, and it found nothing. I ran Furmark and it never crashed. I've run Intel Burn Test on the Max memory usage and that didn't crash.
When I run Prime95 at stock, I will get an app crash stating Linpack.exe crashed yada, yada, yada. But I think this is due to to something else thats causing the issues. I just can't pin point it.
Right now it's running on a single stick of 4GB RAM.
I let it sit idle overnight lastnight and woke up and it had restarted, just as I figured it would have.
Running Dual PSUs and even when the system pulls 350W+ it seems fine. A new motherboard replacement is $400+S/H, so if I'm going to invest that kinda money, I'd like to know it'll work.
Any other suggestions on tests I could run? Somthing that may narrow it down? -
Did you try another SSD? Acronis is usually buggy too so that's also one of the things to consider.

Hi guys
I'm looking to buy an adapter to connect 2 PSU on my Clevo but I need more info on how it works, part number and where to buy it (Europe preferably)? I know Clevo did it for X7200, so I figured this was the right place to ask this information. Another question is: Can I connect the X7200's 300W PSU + the P180 220W PSU to that adapter? I know the 300W PSU also works on the P180. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. -
i need to replace the screen in my Clevo W880CU and was thinking about this screen ..... but now im not so shore....
whitch 17.3 40pin lcd would you recamend ?? -
Hi all. This is my first post on this forum but I read it for quite a long time (especially clevo threads)
To the topic: I have the same problem as katabatik. I tried to find someone who is selling 300W PSU with an adapter in my country (Poland) but without success. Local Clevo reseller (Blue Mobility) didn't even answer my e-mail (maybe because didn't buy laptop from them LOL) in this matter. I know there is an option to ship these parts from the USA but it generates costs that I just want to avoid. Maybe someone knows where to buy these parts in Europe? Help would be really, really appreciated. -
I just traded my M17x R2 with an RGBLED screen, and this screen is almost as good. Very bright and excellent colors. -
I actually have his laptop now and yes, the screen is very bright.
-
well i have ordered one so i can sea first hand how good it is

Well, hit a strange bump w/ my x7200.
Working late for a client in Germany. Put the computer into "sleep mode", and went out for dinner. (Note, I never usually use sleep mode, so not sure why I did it in the first place.)
Came back later to finish up, and the machine wouldn't "wake." Tried multiple times holding down the power button for various amounts of time, and no response. Finally had to pull the battery, in which the machine subsequently booted. However, upon Windows login, my profile was busted.
I thought that was odd, so I shut down cleanly and restarted. This time, my BIOS reset (lost RAID setting as well as Date/Time). BIOS will keep that setting while on AC power, but resets the values once the power adapter is removed.
Called rep from builder, and now sending in for a repair. We always hear knocks on repair service for Clevos. I'll keep you updated on my timings. -
Sounds like a dead CMOS battery.

Here is the HWinfo from my screen and It's the same as Patrick's X7200

Some reason I am not seeing it. -
^^^same here

Sweet,
Thanks a bunch

Am I correct in saying the X7200 can only go up to 1333MHz RAM? Anything higher will just be downclocked to 1333MHz correct?

So I see intel RST 11.6 is officially out, so I went and downloaded it, and wont install. Anyone have this running or ?
-
Does 7970 Xfire now work on X7200? I don't want to jump through the hoops of getting 680M SLI working and I really want to update my 480Ms.
My hexacore laptop is still the most powerful thing around and I would like to update my video subsystem. -

Intel fixed the bug after Microsoft published that article.

Clevo X7200 VGA Upgrade Kit - AMD HD 7970M; 2GB GDDR5; MXM 3.0b | eBay
In the description it says:
No Audio (external audio via USB possible)
No HDMI
No Warm Boot (system must be completely shut down to reboot correctly) -
No audio? I wonder why that is?

Machine has been back, and finally uncovered the problem.
After about 3 days at AVA-Direct, couldn't find any problems. BIOS Battery, regular battery, everything checked out. Although I was completely satisfied w/ their service, and felt they did everything they could, it was frustrating they couldn't find an problem.
Well, once I recv'd the machine back, I placed all the HDDs back into the system, and saw the problem again. So, it turns out the problem had to do w/ the mirrored RAID-ed Momentus XTs. I had a problem earlier where a "sleep" (which I usually never do) went into effect and the system never recovered -> had to pull the CMOS battery. Well, it appears this put the drives into some weird RAID state that once the lappie went to battery, the RAID controller or RAID info on the drives caused the BIOS to reset. Breaking the RAID volume, and a running system restore (w/ re-establishing a new RAID volume) resolved the problem.
I've never seen anything like that before. It all worked out in the end, and all is up and running again. -
Momentus XT's eh.......raid issues...yea been there done that. What raid level by chance ?
-
Had a pair of 'em that were mirrored (RAID-1). What was strange is that I've never seen a set of RAID drives have a side effect in the BIOS.

Can anyone with a 980x post their BIOS settings with regards to CPU overclocking? I'm still having stability issues. Trying not to put a fist through my screen.
I'm half tempted to buy another 980x and mobo just to try and rule out the issue.
When I run Acronis I have to set the core affinity way down just to prevent it from BSODing. Pretty much renders a CPU like the 980x useless.
I rolled back from Win 8 Pro to Win 7 Pro to try and fix this. Tomorrow I start pricing out replacement mobo and 980x/990x.
Of the two possibilities, which is most likely to be the culprit?? At this point I'm so frustrated I'm going all in.

EDIT: Ran everything at stock voltage with Turbo Boost disabled and still had a BSOD

Anyone have any idea which one (motherboard or CPU), is the more likely culprit? Which one should I try to replace first? Looks like either way will probably be at least $400
-
my 990x in 1.0v turbo and HT on work fine

Hmm, so my 980X shouldn't be giving me issues. Wonder if I should replaced the mobo or the CPU. Which I had a better way to test.

got the mini dump? use a BSOD Mini Dump analyzer its free....

maybe who is in trouble is the cpu -
-
Thanks guys. Yea I may try the CPU first. That's a good point. Now I need to find a decent price on an Extreme CPU. I've looked at the dump files and it changes as to what the bsod is caused by. I think its just showing what was being used at the time. Sometimes its the video drivers, other programs etc. I even have the issue on a fresh install with nothing installed. I've repasted a few times, swapped all sorta of ram, tested all ram, swapped ssds etc. Its aggravating not being able to pinpoint the issue.
Anyone got a 980x or 990x laying around? Lol.

Anyone here happen to have an extra CPU for this beast of a system? I'm particularly looking for a 980X or 990X, but willing to consider other CPUs so I can test if it is a CPU issue or mobo issue. So basically, I'm looking for any/all CPUs
Also, what all CPUs are compatible? Maybe I can grab one on ebay cheap, or the market place. Anyone got a quick list? I'll do some research on this as well. -
all i7 1366 are compatible
-
Thanks for the heads up. I'll start my search.
PS. Nice system, you should join the F@H team! Your system could rack up 60K points per day! And if you get the GPU 8057 work units(they offer a quick return bonus), you could be getting close to 200K points per dayI just can't fold on my CPU since it's not stable
... Unless you want to trade

If it's not one thing with my system it's another. Has anyone had this issue before...
My system has 24GB RAM installed. Windows and the Bios only read 16GB. Windows actually says there's 24GB installed, but only 16GB is usable. Obviously I'm running a 64 bit OS.
I tried booting with different RAM configurations and it appears the RAM slot in my center RAM slot won't be read by the bios. I can take the RAM from that slot and move it into another slot and it's read fine. So I've been able to narrow it down to the slot it's self. I've tried cleaning the slot. Didn't help.
Before this I had only done a CPU re-paste earlier tonight when this issue started. Upon re-pasting the CPU, I did notice that I had one slightly bent pin in the CPU socket. I moved the pin back to where it should be. OR close. Is it possible that this bent CPU pin has anything to do with the RAM?
Could the bent CPU have also contributed to the CPU stability issues I was having?
With the CPU issues I was having, I was going to get another 980x after I sold my current one and hope that solved the issue. My reason between replacing the CPU over the motherboard, was the CPU would be easier to sell and make some of my money back. Now, between the bent pin and the crappy RAM slot, I'm thinking I may as well drop $450 on a new motherboard. I haven't been able to find a used motherboard anywhere.
Anyone have any input or suggestions? -
