Received the i7 960 today and again the laptop won't post. Lights and fans run for 10 seconds then it turns off and try's again. Not really sure what it is now the guy I bought it off thinks its the CPU but I've tried 2 now and still no luck.

I'd call tech support at Sager. They will be your best shot at knowing what to try. I had just about given up on mine and was ready to just buy a new one when I called them. In my case it was PC troubleshooting 101. Very glad I did.

Oh, I thought it was a Sager NP7280. I think you may still want to call them. (800) 741-2219

I've called them a few times and I don't think they ever asked me for a serial number or anything. They have always been very helpful.

Does anyone know of a good Pelican case for the X7200? I'd like to get one since ice had one screen crushed in transit. If like to be able to check the X7200 when traveling without worrying about the screen. It's just cumbersome to carry through the airport when I have another bag with my tablet, iPad and headphones. Thanks all!

Hey so my sager has been acting up lately. Had it for over 2 years now but recently it keeps crashing with the screen turning black and a continuous single beeping noise. It won't restart unless I manually power it down by holding the power button. I originally thought the issue was with the CPU overheating since I've been monitoring it and its been getting to around 80C when I run multiple gaming applications. But more recently it has crashed when I try to open one application. Has anybody had a similar problem or know what the problem could be?

Got an i7 960, and NVIDIA GTX 580M

I have had his laptop for 3 years or so and i really have not had to many complaints, but finally one of my 580M's died. So i was wondering would it better to go with the dual 680M setup or just replace the 580M.I use the laptop for pretty much everything as i contract over sea's most of the year and the 580M's did a respectable job but with newer and higher end games coming out i was wondering if it just a better time to go ahead get the 680M's? The cost for a pair is not to much of a concern, but i would like to know where i could get a pair and for around how much if anyone knows. I prefer not to buy a new laptop even with the aging chipset as i have never had a lack of power problem with what i use the machine for. Also from what i have read and seen on the forums the 680M's are as powerful a GPU i can add to this laptop unless something has changed? Anyway any info would be useful to me as i could use some options from some of the more in the know users. TIA.

A single 680m could give you 580m sli performance so i would get at least that rather than a new 580m.

eBay and the members market are worth checking out.

My NP7280 does the same thing once in a while on boot before it ever gets into windows. If I force a shutdown by holding power button for 4+ seconds and reboot it normally goes away. Mine did this from start (about 4 years ago).

It would do this on maybe once out of every 6-10 boots. About 6 months ago I upgraded to the latest BIOS and that has probably went down to once in every 20-30 boots.

I should have sent it back, but it's my main development machine and I decided the 2-4 weeks of down time were worse than putting up with this issue.

Mine has never went into this flashing of LEDs and beeping from a crash, ONLY on boot up like I explained above.

That seems more like a gpu issue.

I'm having your EXACT same issue. I've had mine for ~3 years and this problem has been happening for the past ~year.

What happens is after working with the laptop for a RANDOM amount of time, the screen turns to black and then the Caps Lock, Scroll Lock and Num lock LEDs on the laptop start flashing and beeping. At that point, the only thing I can do is hold the power button on the laptop to force it to turn off and then turn it on again so that it boots up again.

My laptop is a CLEVO CO. X7200 with Intel Core i7 Extreme 990X and 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GTX 580M.

This is what I know at this point:

    • The problem is not with the Operating System because it has occurred with both Windows 7 and Windows 8.
    • The problem is not with my two internal hard drives, because I have tried them both individually.
    • The problem is not with the GPU drivers because I have tried several NVIDIA drivers.
    • The problem is not with the battery because I tested without it as well.
    • The problem is not with the thermal paste because I replaced both the CPU's and the GPU's. Temperatures of the two also seem stable (CPU running at ~70deg, GPU running at ~60deg)
    • The problem is not with the RAM because I ran MemTest86+ and it did not indicate particular issues.
    • The problem is not with external peripherals (external monitor, external HD etc...) because the problem happens even when the laptop is not connected to anything.

It would be really great if anyone could help me diagnose it because it's driving me crazy.

    Thanks,
    // Dreas.

Do the fans spin up when this occurs?

Yes, the fans do rev up by quite a lot more when the beeping starts. You will start hearing them much louder.

    Three things happen:
    • Sudden black screen.
    • Then a ~5 second wait
    • Then the beeping, flashing and fans revving start.

Check fans are seated right, you are getting an EC panic, either it's loosing temperature sensors from the GPU or it thinks one of the fans are is spinning (check they all are).

    Thanks for your reply.

What's an EC Panic? And do you mean that the sensors in particular are misbehaving?

Today I realized something else. When the problem happened and the screen turned to black (as usual), I was still hearing the system audio playing behind the black screen and the beeping's volume this time was loud because my system audio was loud at the time it happened.
What do you think this means?

I then have to hold the power button button to turn it off manually.when it's beeping, as usual.

An EC panic is a condition that makes the system shut down, usually caused by excessive power draw, high temperatures (or lack of temperature feedback) or fans not reporting speeds. The EC is the firmware that monitors the second to second health of the system and sets things like fan speed.

In your case my guess is the gpu failed in a way not restarting the system, it then stopped updating temperature readings causing the EC panic.

Has anyone experienced a bad charging circuit on their x7200? I've tried a new battery, a known good power supply and reinstalling the device driver for the Microsoft ACPI compliant Control Method Battery to no avail.

System shows charging - but doesn't, front LED shows amber for charging but when I check it with an app called "BatteryCare" it shows that it isn't charging.

The machine still runs great after almost 3 years of heavy 3D CAD rendering but now that I can't charge a battery, I loose work everytime there's a power drop or have to restart in order to move the machine to show work...

    Thanks in advance.

    Matt

It can happen, so even when the machine is off it does not charge the battery?

Affirmative. I've even put an old drive in and reinstalled Win7 ultimate with the supplied Boxx drivers to rule out software conflicts. No avail.

I'm thinking now that I may have a bad charging circuit on the MB. Where can I find the PN of the installed MB so I can replace it with the same?

    Thanks!

Talk to your reseller about that.

For the key I find gently massaging the key until you feel it click in to place is the best method. It should sit flat with the rest.

Hi, I have the same problem as dreasgrech and it seems meaker thinks it is due to gpu failure. So, my question is can this problem be fix by changing the gpu, assuming meaker is correct or is there a need to fiddling with firmware?

that's gonna be a problem since it is hard to get mobile gpu in my country plus if I ordered it oversea the shipping cost makes it more expensive and I'm still a student. I guess this is the end of my laptop maybe I should change to desktop

You could to keep yourself going trying an undervolt/underclock to see if that stops the issues for now.

You could also over volt the gpu maybe. If all else fails and you go with a new system, contact me. I would love to buy the 990x cpu you got. Maybe the whole system, but at least the 990x.

dude i'm sorry to disappoint you, but mine is i7 960. Try under volt it, at least it would not die when browsing and do normal stuff. Still... no gaming. Over volt it i'm too scare to do it since i still have a need for this laptop.

    Hey everyone,
Im a proud owner of a x7200 clevo laptop and I just purchased a nvidia gtx 780m from ebay, from a user who had the card in a clevo machine(dont know which model).
The laptop wont post it just powers up and the fans spin high for 40 secs and die down. the screen is black.
Do i need another power supply?
Do i need to change my bios? Currant bios is MB97_bios firmware 12 (728BV12S)
    Bios 1.01.12SA LS3
    EC 1.00.07SA3
Get someone to change the vbios?
or did i royally mess up and get a card that is not compatible?

    I appreciate all the feedback.

    update:

Put back one 480m in master slot and 780m in slave. did not attach sli cable.
bios saw 480m in slot 1 and unknown vga in slot 2
windows recognized the 480m but not the 780m .
unable to update drivers on 780m card in windows.

Might see if i can change the vbios now since I can boot.

    Update2:
    780m bios ver 70.00.31.00.02
    GPU=GK104 revision FF

    Update3:
NVflash DOS sees 780m gtx card.

Flashed to the latest clevo vbios
    still having the same issue.

Might have to sell the card and get a 680m :(
for the moment its in the slave slot.

Unfortunately it seems the GTX 780m is not compatible. The 680m seems to be the last card that can be used. I read from another person who tried the 780m in D900F and X7200 and he didn´t get it to work.
I don´t know if Prema could do something with the BIOS, though.

No it's hard coded into the EC in the keyboard controller and can only be changed by flashing the Bios/EC with a set of values (which clevo are encrypting).

Any non OEM drive where the firmware can be kept up to date should do.

I've become really desperate lately to find a gpu fan replacement because mine is making a terrible rattling noise. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I might be able to buy one? My google-fu isn't able to coming up with anything solid and most places are just sketchy as hell. Any help with be much appreciated.
