I think it's just a translation for the old German review right?

You are right; the original German review is dated Nov 30th.

Can someone lend me a hand? I decided to try out the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility that came with the laptop. I set it to not exceed spec on the voltage and let it go. I chose a short test, just checking it out.

It performed a few tests and then rebooted but now it is stuck in a crash, reboot, crash loop. When I try to stop the session, it still crashes. Is there anyway to get this utility off the stupid setting? Like maybe a way to get it to launch and immediately revert it's changes?

I loaded defaults in the BIOS but if I allow the utility to run or if I run it myself, it just does the same thing, resumes it's session and crashes my system.

You'd think that it would have enough sense to not to do the same thing over and over again.

My question now is whether I can know that my system is back to default and stable and whether I need to forget ever running this utility again.

I am not stable at all now. I don't know what it did but something is not right. When my system reboots, I choose not to run the utility. I downloaded CPU-Z and ran it. The FSB seems right (133Mhz) but my system still does a hard reboot after a few minutes.

Can anyone fill me in on how to make sure everything is back to default and whatever changes this horrible utility has made to my system are reverted?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? Also try a boot into safe mode so that XTU cannot load. Did you set XTU to apply settings at startup?

If you mean cracking the case and removing the battery, nope. I'd hope it's accessible

I uninstalled the tuning utility. Actually the option in Programs and Features was "change" which presented me with a checkbox to remove tuning profiles (or some such) but it seems to be uninstalled now. The guy I spoke with at Xotic suggested uninstalling in case it have any services applying the settings causing the crash. Seems logical enough.

Now I am waiting to see if I go down again. Ugh, not the kind of thing I want to experience on my new $2600 toy. I expect crashes when trying to find the right OC, but wondering whether something is damaged as a result makes me want to hurl.

Nothing should be damaged. If it makes you feel better, I have ran my laptop at 1.5V vcore for extended periods of time and it is still tanking along

And the Clevo boards tend to have the best power circuitry in them compared to all the other laptop brands

After removing the Intel Extreme Tuning utility everything seems to be fine. The auto-tuning function was trying to make a pretty drastic jump from 133 to 180 MHz FSB. Not sure why it started so high. Also not sure why it kept trying to set the same value (it would show that it expected 180 in the log output after each crash.)

Has anyone else used the auto-tuning function of the utility with success?

Removing the CMOS battery is very simple, its right next to the ram under the keyboard, just need a long philips to unscrew a few screws on the back/bottom and take off the touch button panel to access the keyboard screws. always be carefull when taking off a laptop keyboard, their ribbon cables may break easily

hmm, something tells me my memory isnt running at the right frequency... or is 3Dmark just crazy? hope link works, used stock drivers for this run and about to run again with 263.09 drivers from laptopvideo2go

    Result

as you can see, it says SLI is dissabled... I think I used the stock drivers anyways, gone through so many I don't remember which driver I'm on

    and Result

Score is quite a bit better, but I also noticed the GPU Core MHZ is half of what it should be, is this normal? some multiplier not getting added into 3dmark's specs? CPUZ says the same thing under 3d graphics settings

it seems the highest scorer for GTX 480M is only 300 something points ahead of my 2nd try, and it was used with older drivers which are specified in the link. Result hopefully some working sli drivers for 3DM11 soon, I wanna go for one of the highest notebook scores

Is this Intel Extreme Tuning utility pre-loaded on the laptop because mine should be here next week and I don't want to run into that same problem. Not that tech savvy to be trying to troubleshoot yet. lol

It was pre-loaded on mine. It's certainly nothing to be afraid of if unused. In my case, I am just never going to use the auto-tune function again. I may reinstall it once I have more time to tweak and try manual adjustments with it though. It seems that where the auto-tune goes wrong is setting an aggressive FSB OC and then stupidly retrying it over and over again.

Talking about the power supply, why has no one compared it to the xbox's power brick? That's the biggest power brick I've ever seen.

do you have 2 cards or one?
if you have 2 cards...then your not running sli. you need to mod the quadro 265.90 driver which has sli and apparently...no flickering..or use nvidiainpector and change some line to something else and have sli with flickering.
i was thinking the same thing...lol

yes, just looked at mine and that xbox brick is huge! :D

    480m and 5870m

Hi, can anyone enlighten me on some questions, what's the difference between clevo and sager? I visited Clevo web page, but didn't see any config or buy button, how can i make a purchase?

Is there any user review of this laptops? With desktop processor and double 480?

And some stupid question, does it have battery? How long does it work from it?)

    @vorob:

clevo is the manufacturer of the barebones / laptops.
Sager is a US-located reseller. There are also resellers in Europe, e.g.: Mysn

    Some other resellers (non-European) are:

    Avadirect
    Eurocomm
    Malibal
    etc.

You can find many reviews, e.g.:
    Notebookcheck.com/Test-mySN-XMG-U700-ULTRA-Notebook

But there's many more (search for clevo x7200, the "international" name for this Beast). Some sites that have reviews in multiple configurations (GTX480M, GTX480M SLI, GTX460M SLI, Core i7-950 - Core i7-980X) are:

    Tomshardware.com
    Anandtech.com

Good luck with your choice ! :D
