How did you overclock the chip? IIRC, Speedy reported the same kind of problems trying to overclock using Intel XTU.

Within the last 30 pages or so, someone had some luck with 'SetFSB', and someone else (iceman?) had changed the multiplier with another tool. But I don't believe either used XTU.

And just had the pleasure of sampling your modded unlocked bios!! Oh my God!!!! Truly overwhelmed with the options available! Its more options than you get on a lot of desktop motherboard bioses, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, bravo kizwan!

That's right i oc'ed my cpu using setfsb. i putted the clock generator to "CV193CPAG" and i went all the way to 3.657 GHZ with my i7 950. I oc'ed the ram by overclocking the cpu and using only the 19x multiplier thanks to throttlestop.

Your 1 TB drive fits where? just asking, because if i've got to remove my odd, i would rather use a 750 gb hdd.

    Hard drive going out....

Seems I have a hard drive going out, now I know xoticpc will send me a replacement, but how do I tell, which physical one is going out ?

I know in the system I have a hard dive caddy with 2 drives and a 3rd caddy under the battery....

This is the one going out, any insight would be appreciated as to its physical location.

    Port 2
    Port Location: Internal
    Status: Degraded
    Usage: Array Disk
    Size: 476,940 MB
    Serial Number: 5YX0C3AD
    Model: ST95005620AS
    Firmware: SD23

I got that information from Intel Rapid Storeage Tech.

    Thanks

1TB fits into the bay that can occupy two hdd's, it is ever so slighty too big to go under the battery compartment

If you disassemble the bottom, and look at all three drives, are any of them stamped with "5YX0C3AD" as the serial number?

Note, I don't think it will be the correct drive, but the drive under the battery was the easiest to get at. I had a hecuva time with the "double drive cage" in the middle bay.

    Good luck.

OK, have not opened it yet, I am just trying to determine if ports 0 and 1 are the caddy with 2 drives and port 2 is the one under the battery...

The drive attached to port 2 is the one going bad....

any resellers or anyone else who knows would appreciate some insight, replacing the wrong drive would seriousely suck...

    Hello,

I´ve got a strange problem, maybe someone knows anything about it:
When I first got my laptop, I could swear I startet it by battery.
You have to hold down the power button just a few seconds. (I know this from my M571TU)
But now the laptop doesn´t turn on anymore, no matter how long or short I press the power button - if it´s on battery.
If the PSU is plugged in, everything is all right and the laptop will start, and I can plug off the power then and the laptop stays ON battery...?
Tried to do a power drain, but didn´t help anything...?

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

What I can tell you (assuming nothing is different in my x7200 and yours) is the drive that is closest to the laptop's BOTTOM panel in the MIDDLE bay is port 0 - it is where my C300 is installed, and I can see it through the vents.

So you have a 50/50 chance the drive under the battery is port 2.

ok for the 980x, idle around high 30's to low 40'sc, gaming maybe mid 50'sc, video editing high 60c, (the real taxing editing 80c) linx and prime around high 80'sc, linx pushes it into low 90's. Using coolaboratory liquid metal ultra

grrrr...those odds suck IMHO, damm. I would have thought that the drive bays would be marked, Drive 1, 2,3 etc.....

I know what drive is bad according to Intel RST but I just dont know how to physically identify it. No indicator lights or anything....grr.....

If 0 is in the middle, I would say (if there is any logic to port assignment) the 2nd port is port 1. This means port 2 would be under the battery.

Take 10 minutes, shutdown, pop the battery, and look at the drive (less work involved). If it has the serial number, you're done! Shouldn't be too bad.

Try doing a full ground clear: remove the battery, hold the power button down 10 seconds, the replace the battery.

Hi Guys and Girls. Just how loud are the fans on the X7200 with a GTX480 SLI. I am currently using an Alienware M17X-R2 and doing office type stuff it is silent but gaming it does get a bit noisy. So how noisy is the X7200 doing normal office stuff and how noisy playing games?

Having had an m17x I'd say the x7200 is quite a bit louder both at idle and when the fans are running load. Just a guess, but maybe 12db vs. 20db when the fans are cranked.

I do know that I would strain to hear if my m17x was on from the next room; with my x7200 there is no doubt. You need some noise to disipate from a 130w+ CPU.

Hi every one is there any one that knows how to change the fan settings with out going all out with biosmodding and all sorts there must be a way to set the fans seperatly .
and also does any one know why there is a foam gasket on the fan thats should suck air in from the front doesent make sens to put a gasket betwen the cover plate and cpu fan the other ones i can understand since they should suck from underneath

and my temps look realy off ,idle one core runs at(lowest one) 38c and the other 5 is running 45c 47c 50c 51c 50c
    something is strange

That's strange, since the x7200 seems like the most quiet laptop I own (it's almost comical, but true). I don't have an m17x - but my m11x roars like a motorbike most of the time, very noisy, though small.

On the other hand, the fans on the x7200 seem to be nearly silent - both when the laptop is idle and when running games. Recently I played New Vegas about 8 hours without a single break (everything maxed out) - the fans were barely audible, and the highest temperatures were around 62'c - cpu and 58'c - gpu.

My room temperature is around 16'c though - it might be the reason, since I already mentioned that the x7200 temperatures dramatically depend on its surroundings.

Even with your ambiant temp at 16c (do you live in an igloo? :)), I highly doubt your x7200 is quieter than your m11x. Sure the pitch is different, but no way should the m11x be louder. If it is, there's something wrong with your m11x.

the fans usually alter, it is rarely noisy in my rig, rare but usually happens like 2 or 3 time whenever i use it like 2-3 hours. not as irritating imo.

Anything that I should be aware of? I'll be installing Win 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1 (technet edition) then the latest drivers (should I go with OEM drivers or sager drivers?) and the the fun will begin.

That is EXACTLY what I did, I have technet, so installed Ultimate64SP1 and installed the drivers from the enclosed DVD, the only thing I upgraded was the Intel RST from intels site here http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...apid+Storage+Technology+(Intel®+RST)&lang=eng , then I installed my AV

Would love for a more updated vid driver sometime....

So, I was doing some reading about Raid5 on Sager's and the intel chipsets. Seems no one really has had any luck with it, I mean a random drive "failure" here and there, re build etc......

It seems the common factor is the intel chipset in the raid. Can anyone veriify this ? Everything I have read states "went to a raid0 setup, and have no problems..."

So for all you who got the hybred drives with their units, there is some new firmware for them out, I flashed all 3 of mine. It fixes a few issues, I am hoping that might fix my "degraded" drive issue in my raid 5 setup, hasnt happened since I rebuilt it 2 days ago......here is hoping..

OH...firmware here: Momentus XT Firmware Update from S23 to S24

I downloaded the ISO and booted from the cdrom after burning it, flashed with no problems. The cdrom will also allow you to list the drives in your system and see what firmware they are at.

My M17X-R2 is silent at idle and doing MS Office stuff but can get a bit noisy when it is cranking along. The noise under load is not a problem but I really appreciate the quiet office operation. I had an M870CU before I got this and the three things I love about this computer compared to the Clevo are the screen, the keyboard and the 'Stealth' software. On the other hand I hate the CF 5870's and I have had nothing but assorted problems which it appears now will require the motherboard to be replaced. In all honesty if the X7200 had the keyboard and screen I have now I would swap the M17 for it in a heartbeat.

edit - don't tell my boss but running in 'stealth' I can play EU III and make absolutely no more noise than if I was looking at a spreadsheet. :) I take a bit of a performace hit but it still very playable.

Interesting... (and thanks) I'll take a look at that. Both of my drives shipped w/ S23 onboard (and S23 was also the latest when I checked in early Dec).

I tell ya, if it's not one type of driver/firmware/bios it's another. My C300 SSD was on the average side when I first recveived the laptop. Seems there was a new firmware for that (which added TRIM support). Once I updated that firmware, things really started flying for read/write on that drive.

I hear ya there.....I work with IBM P series systems, and almost each component has a firmware (we call it microcode in the IBM world). Its crazy, even PSU's have microcode, Fibre cards, SCSI Cards, NIC's, then there is the HMC microcode and the Frame....its all sorts of fun to keep track of.

You hit the Clevo weak spots with precision... The keyboard is, arguably, the worst part of the x7200 model - barely bearable at all - though it does not spoil the deal for me since I mostly use an external keyboard.

The x7200 screen is nothing spectacular at all - just your regular mediocre screen, on the cheaper side - but it is absolutely useable nevertheless, mediocre, but not bad. It requires color calibration as well - feels much better after it is done. Not too much of a problem for me either, since I use an external monitor most of the time, and I plan on swapping the laptop's screen for a better one.

Now the ultimate mod would be taking the m17x screen out and putting it into x7200! It seems to be quite possible - yet I do not have an m17x to try :).
