Whats the price dif betven them ??
dont you have a 30 day thing so if you want the 470 or 6970 that you can send it back and just pay for the upgrade and not for a complet set of new ones as well and or if its a pos stop the order and shange you settup to 470 sli or 6970 xfire i would recomend 485 sli but the price is to high right now heres me hoping it will go down soon

i can change my setup cuz i gotta wait till the end of this month estimated for the 460's from xotic to be in stock as well as the 470's and other back ordered gpu's it would cost me 145 dollars to upgrade to the 470's and just wanted to know how much better performance it would have then the 460's and i still need to know how well the 460 sli would perform lol...sadly

I ordered mine from Malibal and the 470m sli wasn't an option when I actually placed the order. There was only one place I could find that was offering it, Prostar maybe? I can't remember. Anyways, the price was uncomfortably close to that of the significantly more capable 485m sli setup. I didn't want to deal with dual PSUs, and I didn't want to overpay, so I just ordered the 460m sli with the malibal nine. Then TWO FREAKING DAYS after I place my order, Malibal updates their site, and is offering the 470m sli as a $145 upgrade, and at that price I think they are VERY worth it. They aren't the 485s, but they are surprisingly close to the 480s, and probably the best gpu option for the x7200 unless you are willing to deal with the whole double psu thing.

Almost forgot to mention, I immediately called Malibal and upgraded my order. At that price, I think the 470s are totally worth it.

The 470s actually outperform the 480s by a good margin. They are all around great cards

Also, I should warn people ahead of time, that my trusty old toshiba x205 recently failed me, so until I get my hands on my new hotness, I am interacting with this site via my droidx which seems to really enjoy changing what I type to what it thinks I probably meant when I am not paying attention. This can in some situations make me look like an idiot, so please bear with me for the next few weeks.

From what I've been able to gather it really seems to depend on the software. Both cards seem to have their moments, but when power usage is taken into account, I agree, I think the 470m is a better card. But I didn't want to say that and offend any x7200 owners running the 480s. Now they can just be annoyed with you, so I'm in the clear.

Also, I've got a question that maybe the Malibal rep can answer. All Malibal models have cool Japanese sounding names, like Lotus, or Satori.... my question is, how is Nine pronounced?? It seems pretty obvious, but taken in the context of the rest of the lineup....... is it "Neenay" or is this just a really stupid question......

Don't like the rock'n'roll clown avatar?? That is a tragedy.

Thanks Malibal guy! I am crazy stoked about the laptop, and knowing for sure that I am pronouncing its name correctly helps me not feel as dumb as I annoy my friends talking about it all the time.

I had actually decided to buy a new laptop before the toshiba was kia, so my decision to upgrade wasn't because of of the toshiba breaking. What happened was that I somehow picked up that windows defence center virus that tries to get you to go buy a bunch of phony antivirus junk. I tried shutting it down through the task manager, but its magic was much to dark and powerful for that. My crappy iolo system shield antivirus was unable to even see it much less cut it out of my system. So I shut down the laptop, and tried to boot into safemode, but it hung up, and after that the computer would not boot at all. If I leave it for a while, it comes to a system restore screen, but with no OS options to restore. If I had the old system disk, I would probably be able to get farther, but its back at the house. I am a long haul trucker (thus the necessity of spending more for less with high end mobile gaming) so I spend a month or two at a time away from the wife and kids, and in this case the system disk which somehow escaped my targus laptop backpack.

I would recomend to run Win7 64 bit on it makes it stable as hell i will pm you a Torrent link to the win im using it comes with nod 32 pre installed and also with generic nvidia and wifi drvs so it will work strait away and then when you have time you just take the latest of all your drvs
use the newest from like nvidia realtech and only download modell specifc ones like hotkey and flash card from toshiba site .Right now im using mine as a media station hocked up to my LCD 24/7 its a great laptop to have as a backup since you can run games on it might not be every thing on high but but on low setting im getting about 25 to 45 fps in BFBC2 no oc 35 to 55 fps with my oc profile .BY the way Mallwarebytes works great for that coold you got

Well, almost 24hrs since I pulled the XT's out of my system and dropped in the WD Scorpios. Seems to be performing well, can’t say I have noticed any real performance slow down after switching, I am sure there is some but not noticeable to me.

I have been clearing and watching event viewer every so often, for any indication of issues in the raid controller, none so far.

So, passed the 24hr mark so far so good, I am not going to call it a success for mabe a week....it always seemed to fail after 2-3 days so....here is to hoping :)

Just in case wwoods needs this... Now, granted this is a apples to oranges comparison (your RAID-5 vs. my RAID-1 *and* different disks), but here are XT benches from the x7200 from a while ago

Sure, soon as I am satasfied that its all working. I am really in a "get this all working right" mode at moment. Also, TBH, benchies of the Raid5 isnt a huge deal for me, I am doin raid5 because of my work data

On the positive side, I am more familiar with the guts of this laptop than any system I have owned.....I could field strip clean and assemble this thing blindfolded.

Yeah obviously stability is far more important than super high benchmarks. If I remember correctly raid 5 is 50% slower than raid 0 speeds without the chance of data being lost due to single drive failure.

I was wondering whether to run a samsung 470/Crucial c300 with two wd scorpio blacks for data against raid 5. Though from the looks of it in terms of pricing, its only $40 dollars more for 1 tb non raid/raid 0/ or 500gb raid 1 with a speedy boot time and one or two serious programs on ssd.

Yeah, thats the problem exactly. I just bought win7 home premium for 90bucks directly from my retailer, it will be installed and ready to go when the laptop shows up. Having the ultimate edition for free would be awesome, but I have no way to DL anything.

could always upgrade in the future though...... :)

Yea, raid5 is just as fast as raid0 on read, but about 50% slower on write (still faster than a single drive though) due to parity writing. It all comes down to what ya do with the system. I am gonna raid1 (stripe) my wifes, she is not interested in speed but data integrity is a big deal (if her Thesis went bye bye I would be dead).

I am also anal about backups.

If I may suggest it, the XTs as a RAID 1 mirror has been a fantastic config. Best of both worlds - SSD will boot in about 14 seconds after the last POST message, and the safety of the XTs on a mirror for all important data. (Assuming the RAID holds the volume together better than wwoods' did.)
