Spoke to Sager tech and Xotic yesterday, their responce was that all the issues reported by users with XT drives and raid have been in a raid5 setup....no raid0 or raid1.....
-
Wow! I wonder if Seagate has a response to this? Or if it is even on their radar, as how many people use a laptop drive in RAID 5 configuration?
-
Dont jump to conclusions yet...still testing this, and youre right, Raid5 in a laptop isnt that popular, BUT looking more and more like its a combo of raid5 + the XT's
And TBH, I doubt its on their radar, its a pretty rare setup I think. -
I run vantage with the new clevo drivers and I got 0 3dmarks, 15989GPU, 42230CPU. Run was at 1920x1080 with ppu on.
second run - 0 3dmarks, 15881GPU, 18888CPU. Run at 1920x1080 ppu off.
Temps from 79-83Celsius for CPU, 65-67Celsius for GPUs.
I'm not a bencher so someone else should say if the scores are good or not. -
But if Xotic/Sager are reporting problems they are seeing w/ XTs are through RAID 5, then something is up.
I still wonder if the initial F6 setup has anything to do with it?
Don't know if this is how you would post it, but let's see what the "Seagat-ees" have to say.
Any problems Momentus XT in a RAID 5 using Intel ICH10 - Intel RST? -
I agree something is up, but without some serious testing we cant say for sure there is aissue with the XT's and Raid5, but it is looking that way.
NIce post BTW, definately gonna follow that one, will be quite interesting to se the responces. -
Also note, it looks like ppl are still having other problems with this drive, and a FW SD25 update for the Momentus XTs are right around the corner.

We greatly appreciate the great lengths wwoods has assisted us with so we can share his test results with Sager Engineering. We are working closely with Sager to see what the underlying issue is here. Thanks again for helping share your test results wwoods.

I am gonna be watching the reaction to SD25 close before I jump on it.....

Raid5 issues and XT's saga continued:
Going on 36hrs and all seems well, FWIW last night at work the system was under a lot of heavy IO, for a good while, and handled it quite well. I can’t say I have noticed a significant slowdown going from the XT’s to the WD Scorpios. I am still not willing to say issue resolved, but feeling a bit more confident.
BTW you may notice, in my wifes system below, hers uses the same raid chipset, and I have XT's in a raid1 and have no issues...just a note. -
On a different note, does NBR offer a RSS of various forums ? like could I subscribe to a RSS of this one ?
-
I'm with you. Based on what I've been reading on all these latest firmware update's for the XT, I'm staying put on SD24 unless there is some problem I notice.
No need to risk an upgrade to firmware which might introduce a problem... -
if anyone could help me i ordered a sager 7280 from xotic and noticed that they are offering the sager 7280-np will they let me change my order completed? I only ask this because on sales reps were present when i asked
-
IF OUR ORDER ISENT IN YOUR FRONT YARD you have the right to change your mind with no charge
-
I found Xotic verry willing to work with me on my order...call them
-
Er.......not nessarially. Once they have started building the order, its pretty commited. Thats the same with many companies, like Amazon, when your order reaches a certian stage, you can not make changes.
HP has the same guidelines....many companies do.You CAN always return it and re-order, but...thats aneother process. -
eh idk wwoods do you know if its too late for me their on phase 1 waiting for parts to come in so they can build? i guess?
-
and you have all the right to change your mind sorry xcotic guys but its true
stop your build then think realy what you want then re post it talk fist then order that wath i should have done
-
Call them....seriousely, get the info strait from them.
-
sorry pre sent m8 bit drunk sorry
-
okay will right now and thanks guys
-
No you dont....and I am not gonna debate the process, and I am not a "Xotic" guy, but when you order something from a company, ANY company you have to follow certian guidelines as set forth by that company.
Best if you want clarification, call the company in question. Haveing delt with Xotic, from the purchase of this system to wrking with their suppport team to help with the raid issues, I can say they will do whatever they can to accomidate someone, within reason.
But a blanket statement of "you have the right to...." without knowing the particlar situation is a ignorant statement. -
NP, after a 57hr work week, I plan to indulge a bit tonight as well
-
Its Saturday...they are closed, just sayin. But Justin from Xotic reads these forums and you can call them monday.
-
yea i just called ill call monday im hopeing they will let me change my order but if not I'm not going to cry over it from reading everyone's posts on here and using a dell latitude d610 because my dell d830 died i wont be disappointed at all with what i get at all it will still do everything i wanted
-
That's true, once the order reaches building stage a restocking fee may be applied on cancelling/reordering. However, if the modifications are minor your reseller may make the adjustments on the fly w/o any penalties or delays.
AFAIK, XoticPC has a 24/7 tel support, so you can still call. Wouldn't hurt to try anyway.
-
True that, I did a last min CPU switch and was cool
They do, but thats the tech support dept, not sales....
On a diff note, hows re-seller buisness shaping up ? -
Just wanted to throw out some info to see if any one else has tried. I just installed the newest nVidia 267.66 with custom inf v4.070 all from laptopvideo2go. It seems to have dropped about 1-3 degrees C from Dead Space 2 (Ultra Maxed settings) after an hour of playing. It may be my imagination, Win7 feels snappier. I don't have any screenshots, just wondering if anyone else is having the same success with the newest drivers.
Also planning on getting a 120hz wxga or uwxga projector. Anyone have any recommendations for use with nVidia 3d kit? -
The Raid5 Saga:

You can change your order at ANYTIME before it ships with no penalty. Email [email protected] and they will make the change. If you are working with one of our representatives you may also email them and they can take care of it for you.
-
If you look at the Details of the event, is there a way to map that data against any kind of identifier in Device Manager for the RAID disk or ICH10 Raid controler? I'm not an expert at interpreting Event Viewer errors, but if you can trace it back to which device caused the event, perhaps it is related to something else.
-
I looked, looks like it was generic error, I dident see anything that I could map back...
After a bit more research and googling, looks like that had to do with a removable drive not being accesable. That corresponds to the same time that my Blackberry rebooted for a update, I had the blackberry set up as a USB device last night because I was copying some data off the micro-sd card in it...so maby that was the issue.
Hope so... -
Thanks Justin i just emailed verifications as soon as i read the forum.

A follow up to a question regarding how the SSD portion of a Momentus XT HDD works. If you recall I had mentioned how the SSD section is a read-only cache, and it follows this would just be a copy of the data on the platters.
Ran across this post today -
- Seagate Momentus XT 500GB ST95005620AS Review Page 12 - Conclusion - Overclockers Club
So, we can put that one to rest. -
Raid5 Saga:
Well, no errors, system is behaving just fine and dandy. I am actually starting to get hope up a bit more.
Not gonna call it a 100% issue solved yet though..... -
im hopeing things get there for you wwoods
-
Western Digital Blacks are always solid drives and realistically the Momentus XT is still in its infant stage. I don't think Seagate even really thought someone would run a few Momentus Xts in raid 5 so it could just be that for this gen you are stuck with normal 7200 rpm drives. Though you can't get much better than a scorpio black unless you opt for an SSD.
-
And honestly, thats OK....the speed, IMHO, with the XT in raid5 wasnt that much better than the blacks are now. And I am MUCH more concerned with data integrity......

I contacted Clevo regarding a latest release of the x7200's BIOS. They tell me they cannot provide me one, but perhaps I can get one from my vendor. The vendor (AVADirect) tells me Clevo did not provide them with any BIOS - "we currently do not have any updated BIOS versions for the X7200, since we have not required one."
Would a Sager NP7280 BIOS work on a plain Clevo x7200? Anyone know how to extract a current BIOS to make a backup? I cannot believe Clevo wouldn't just say, "here is the latest we have - you can download it from Site xyz.
Call me a bit perplexed on this one. -
This is Clevo's site
CLEVO - Download
and this is Sagers:
Software Upgrade
I would think since the Sager is basically the ame as the Clevo, same BIOS ? -
use phlash16 on a bootable usb then the best thing you can do is wright a pm to kizwan over at http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/480992-acer-laptop-phoenix-bios-bios-mod-request.html he knows all the command and stuff . and your bby should work with the sager bios its basacly the same machine just the name thats difers He is the one that ulocked all the fetures in my bios and it based in the latest sager
-
Clevo dont seme to list there BIOS for download
-
Dual 470M for just $345 is a ridiculous value.
-
my machine have fan problem with sager bios
the fan which vent covered goes loud~quiet~loud~quiet>>>cycling
so i flash back to style note bios and fan return stable
-
I think it have to do with the fan settings in the Sager bios being changed from the old one I have the same prob or the CPU is running hotter with this bios !!!
-
Exactly.
As you've noticed, you cannot download a Clevo BIOS for the laptop. The Sager NP 7280 BIOS is definitely different, and I want a backup in case I *do* flash the BIOS to one of kizwan's other creations, not to mention this would be a good addition to the x7200 wiki. I really see no reason why Clevo should not provide one.
I contacted Clevo and they basically thumbed their noses at me, and told me to contact the vendor, who in turn said Clevo has not provided them with a BIOS either.
So, my next line of thinking is to get a BACKUP of the BIOS I am currently using. At least then I have a backup. Perhaps kizwan can help there.
I'm quite happy with the BIOS I have now, but if I do want to tinker with something else, I want to be able to go back.
DGDXGDG, how did you flash back? Did you get a copy of your orig. BIOS? -
jclausius
you are running the Style note one right now yes?
the thing i saw with the ver i had of that BIOS was that XTU
didnt work . and the fans didnt cycle as much .
but doing a basic backup it should be running from a boot usb with phlash16 . c:\phlash16 /BU
But just check the the commands for in case i have missed out on some thing .
and if you want to flash you vBIOS for OC Mavke at MVKtech.net is briliant with those -
Thanks. I'll take a look at the different ways to back up the Style Note BIOS (1.00.04)
