Using the Clevo 266.40 driver w/ SLI 485m I scored ~2200 3DMarks in 3DMark 11 Basic. With this driver I've got 5409 3DMarks. I'm not sure what most are getting though

Wow, finally the 485m user can run 3DMARK11 in SLI!
Looking forward to see some more benches from different users... scores with 6970m /w I7 960 you can see in the X7200 Benchmark thread.
BTW: Does anyone who sells 6970m for the X7200 know if there are special heatsinks for the cards?
And is there a new BIOS version needed? -

I am surprised no one did this earlier, it is not a complicated mod, just a few lines of code at a few different places in a few different files....ok maybe it is not THAT simple....is definitely easier for ATI drivers haha

Hey all
I recently bought the clevo x7200 with the following specs:
i7 980x @ 3.33ghz
2x485m gtx
12gb ddr3 ram
128gb SSD + 1tb HDD
I must say it hasn't been a smooth ride so far. Despite specifically requesting both 500gb HDD's to be striped in RAID 0 for performance, they were both left comletely unallocated. I sorted that out easily enough but now, and much more worryingly, I am faced with extremely poor performance all round.
I tried playing Mafia II at native resolution, high settings no AA and got an average of 6-9fps. I tried 3DMark06 and got a pathetic score of ~3300.
The driver I am using is the same as what came with the machine as there hasn't been any official support from nVidia. strangely enough in the control panel there is no option for SLI either. even if it wasn't enabled surely i should be seeing better performance than this?
if anyone can shed some light onto why such a high end machine is running worse than my old dual core 2.6ghz with dated 8800gtx sli graphics lol!!
cheers -

Made sure you are not in battery saver power plan in windows? Also have you tried re-installing the drivers? Pop the bottom cover off and make sure the SLI cable is attached well?
-
My first instinct was that it was running in battery saver mode but that isn't the case. I've reinstalled the drivers too and that hasn't helped. I was worried that maybe the SLI cable wasn't attached (they forgot about the HDD's and the backpack/carry case i ordered after all). I won't be in danger of voiding the warranty if I open the case up will I?

I would also go to your reseller and make this their problem, you paid for a working laptop.
-
-
also a patriot kit but that's CL 11 -
Interesting. I just did got a 22355 using 3dmark 6. I was thinking I would score higher. Most interestingly my CPU only ran 2-3 frames a second. I wonder it ifs because of the 6 cores.
-
-
Thomas9199: I would contact your manufacturer. Different resellers have different policies regarding if opening your case voids your warranty. Personally I bought mine bare bones and then installed everything myself.

So, is anybody besides me is tired of being called an idiot with to much money for wanting a powerful computer, and being forced by circumstances to have that computer be a laptop. Does every single e-troll really believe that people buying these laptops don't know that we could build a considerably more powerful desktop for a lot less money? I swear, every single damn review or video has several of these @$$holes running their mouths. Can't they recognize that a lot of people travel for work? Not everyone can live in their parents house saving up their allowance for upgrades to the family desktop.

I was getting about the same Thundercat

Heres a nvcv.inf file I just modded for use with the latest 267.76 driver. I managed to install it on my computer. Thought I'd upload it for anyone who wants it. Please note I did not make this mod originally, I just altered it.

... annoying attributes... give me a few.

I know it sounds like the laptop must be running on low power mode but I've checked half a dozen times, it's set to high performance mode. It couldn't be a bad PSU either cause I have 2 of them and a converter. I even tried each one individually to no avail. besides from the extremely poor performance, the laptop is running fine, which makes my situation all the more confusing. I opened the panel to have a looksee at the cards but I'm really not qualified to go poking around in there. I've assembled my own desktop riggs before but as I'm sure you're aware, things are a bit more specific on this kind of laptop. One thing of note though; there was no obvious SLI cable in sight at all between the two cards. I'm not really sure what i'd be looking for as I'm only used to the desktop equivelant. The machine is recognising both cards, it just doesn't seem to be utilizing them. The laptop vents are exhausting a constant flow of ice cold air even when putting as much load as possible on them. Looks as though I'm going to have to wait till Monday to get some tech support. I have the option to return the laptop and get my money back, but I really need a high performance notebook for work purposes too. Just not happy about paying nearly five grand for a defective peice of equipment

OK lets try this again. Install it to \Nvidia\displaydrivers\267.76\vista 64-bit\international\display.driver and copy over the previous file (for those of you who do not know)

Thomas, you cannot see the SLI cord unless you remove the heatsink if I remember right. It will be clearly marked "SLI Cord"
-
Not qualified? If you've built a desktop then this should be no problem for you. It's just a little different.
-
Thats interesting my computer could cook an egg sometimes.
-
SWEET I just ran 3DMark 11 and got P5401! My old result was like 2000. That new driver kicks!
-
Alright your comments on how it sounds like it most likely is a power saving problem got me curious so I did a little experiment to rule it out once and for all and ended up with some interesting results. On the 'High Performance' setting I got about 9-11fps on Mafia II, on 'Balanced' I got 9-11fps, and on 'Power Saver' i got -surprise,surpise- yeah, 9-11fps. I also ran off the battery with no PSU at all and got the same results. The power option utility is saving the settings that I choose, but it isn't making any improvement at all. Still, this comes more as a relief to me than anything else. I can handle a software problem, I don't like entertaining the idea of faulty hardware or poor installation on my notebooks' manufacturers side...

Sounds like your video cards are bad for some reason. Did you run a hardware test on them?
-
Drrockso99- I really couldn't give two S__t's less what people think of me. Also I know people who think my laptop kicks A_S!
-
Thats unless they are one of those types who wants some POS you get at Wal-Mart or other such stores.
-
Like people who own a Mac laptop and claim its the best in the world.
-
Thomas: My notebooks blowing cool air right now since I am installing a program... Your video cards are either DOA or not installed right. Since your computer registers them it must be something leaning towards the DOA. I'd call whoever you got the notebook from.

Glad it is working for people!
I hate the disparity between desktop and laptop drivers - exists for no reason..... -

I used to be like this a long, long time ago. Too high blood pressure and too many gray hairs resulted.
Think about it this way. If the conversation turns into insults and name calling, then you've already won. Walk away and chalk up another victory! -
OK, here are the benchies I promised with the new drivers, thanks scook9

This is to the guy that has problems in performance. Have you tried changing the hotkey app profile? There's a small icon on the tray that looks like a small laptop. Right click it, and click the only option that appears in the menu, then select "performance". check and see if it isn't set to energy star.

What's up guys, hope all is going well. Hardware setup scenario and question for you all, if you don't mind:
I've had just plain bad luck with Seagate HDDs in my Sager laptops. My np9262 came with Raid 1, and during the 3 years I had 3 HDD failures.
I've had my np7280 since October, and have had a Seagate HDD fail on me also. This setup was in Raid 0 and so I lost all data and had to start from scratch after removing the faulty drive from my machine. Annoying to be sure, but I'm over it now.
Right now I'm running on the remaining original HDD (Seagate 500GB w/ 4GB SSD). I did an RMA with Sager a couple weeks ago and they sent me a new HDD. Tech support from Sager highly recommended that I don't use any form of Raid setup this time around. So I have the new drive in the box still and am unsure what to do with it. Where would you all install it in the machine? What would you do with it once it's in the machine? I'd like to use it for redundancy but not have my HDDs be in a Raid setup. Any info would be appreciated. Peace out.
On another note, is there something I'm missing as far as setting up my signature on this site? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. -
You can just place it in there and run two drives non raid. Then all you would have to do is just drag and drop the files you want to back up. I don't know if there is a program to do this automatically but the very least you can do it manually. Though from what i understand, raid 1/0 works most of the time with the XT but plenty of people have problems with it particularly in raid 5. -
-
The Blacks run great raided.
If I were you I would just run them non raided, or if you really want raid, use something else. BUT I know of at least one person running a raid1 with XT's and there fine. The only 100% conclusion I can draw, is that raid5+XT's = bad
and, BTW, if you search at least one retailer here on the forum is reccomending you NOT use XT's in raid.....
There is also a whole disscussion overe here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...ket-upgrades/564036-momentus-xt-raid-5-a.html going on about the XT's and raid -
- We both have/had 3 Momentus XT HDDs
- My 3rd drive is sitting on a shelf just in case there is some kind of catastrophe with my mirrored RAID.
- WWoods proved there is some default setting with XTs and Win7 that do not play nice in RAID 5. We *think* this would apply to everyone with an x7200, but with the sample size all I think we can safely say (100% accuracy) is that it did not work in his case.
- We're still awaiting word from Seagate on the configuration of problem or not a problem with XTs in RAID-5.
- I have been running RAID-1 (but not on a boot disk) since Oct/Nov 2010.
- All of the six HDDs between us have been flashed to Seagate [FW] SD24.
- RAID has never appeared degraded for me, but did have some weird "stalls" while browing.
- Haven't encountered those stalls since setting Win 7's power (advanced) settings to keep the HDDs on at all times.
- Today, I ran across an earlier post above from icemanmelting in which I placed the HotKey app's "Power Conservation" to performance
Searching this thread back three+ weeks will show where wwoods 1st started encountering the problem with RAID-5. Hopefully the info in there will be helpful.
In any case, here are simple instructions to setup RAID on a new system. Note, this is ALL from memory, so I apologize ahead of time if this is not 100% accurate:
- Go to the x7200 Drivers page, and download the F6 drivers.
- Extract and burn them to CD or use an external floppy, etc.
- Boot your PC, and make sure your BIOS for the SATA mode/controller is set to RAID. Exit and Save
- On the Intel RAID BIOS (Ctrl+I - after the normal BIOS has POST-ed) go in there. It should allow you to create a NEW RAID volume. Choose the two Momentus XTs in a mirrored RAID. Best to accept the defaults for the rest of the RAID creation.
- Exit and Reboot.
- For installing Windows for the 1st time. Watch closely in the beginning it will say something like hit 'F6' to install other drivers during the beginning of the install. Hit 'F6' at that time.
- Put in the drivers disk you just created, it should find the Intel RAID RST drivers, continue w/ the install.
- When you get to the part of Windows installation, instead of two disks, it should find the RAID volume (and you only see 1 disk). Install Windows there (formatting, etc), and the rest should take care of itself.
Also, check the x7200 user's manual (follow the details/driver wiki if you need to get a PDF). There was information regarding RAID setup in there as well.
-
seriousely, you put it so much better.....
-
Thankyou all for your responses. Will plug in the other HDD when I get a chance. I'm not going to use it in any kind of Raid array...will just use it to drag-n-drop, I think. Thanks again!
-
What does everyone think of RAID arrays I do not bother to use them myself I like the extra storage space.
-
Storeage I am not worried about, I have 16TB of external storeage in a rack in my basement. -
I never noticed the small laptop icon there before, good catch. It was set to balanced, which has now been set to performance. Unfortunately still no effect on the machines performance. Spoke to the tech support guys earlier and other than the aforementioned 'loose sli cord' theory, they have been of little help. No SLI is one thing, but that still doesn't explain the all round terrible performance of the machine. Even just one 485m should be able to churn out better performance than ~3000 in 3DMark06, 9fps in Mafia II and a slide-show performance in STALKER:COP. Gonna try benching on Metro 2033, but I am not hopeful. I think I'm going to have to have it taken back and go elsewhere for my high-performance DTR needs. Still gonna go with the x7200, except with the 990X CPU and hope they have it set up better than this one has. Wish me luck, eh? :/
