Yeah, I have a feeling they'll be phasing the 5160 soon :( It's a pity, because I liked this machine...

Just ordered my NP5160 on Friday the 13th. That should work out well. LoL
Should be leaps and bounds above my P4 Compaq Presario R3000.
I see allot of people make little remarks to build quality. Is this computer a step above HP's/DELLS etc?

Hey everybody. Long time lurker...first time poster. Just had a quick question: I am debating on what type of screen to get for my NP5160. I've heard good things about all the Sager screens except nothing for the 1600x900 matte option. Does anyone have this and could comment on it? The high gamut option just isn't in the budget, so that just leaves the cheaper glossy 1920x1080 or the matte 1600x900. I'd prefer a matte screen but that 1920x1080 also looks lovely...Which one do I choose!? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I cant comment on the 1600x900 but i LOVE my glossy 1080P. Only time gloss seems to be a problem for me is outside in the sun. Indoors its great.

Comparing it to my old Dell Inspirion 9300 that was rock solid, the Sager seems decent. It definitely feels more sturdy than some of the laptops I was looking at
at Bestbuy though. Maybe someone who has owned more of a variety of laptops than me can chime in...

Mine has the 1600x900 matte screen, and having never seen a 1920x1080, glossy or matte, I can't compare them, but I can give you my impressions. my last laptop had a 1280x800 glossy screen and comparing the two I can say the glossy one is more vibrant in terms of the color, but the matte one gets just as bright. this is my first laptop with a matte screen and I enjoy the lack of glare. so my question to you would be which is more important to you the added real estate and vibrancy of a glossy FHD or the perks of anti-glare on a HD+ matte screen?

Any of you have requested BIOS updates? do you know if there are any? I searched Clevo site and there is nothing available for W150HNQ. I'm running bios from 2/11/11. I'm happy about machine, but the BIOS seems so plain and generic, no fan control no nothing. Clevo did good job with the hardware, but they could do some better job with BIOS rather than sticking generic Phoenix BIOS.

There's not an update that I know.

There are people complaining that the NP5160 (and family) doesn't support hardware virtualization (VT-x and VT-d), which should be an option on the Bios but there isn't and actually is disabled. But mine seams to work, so I didn't get that.

I have to agree, I was expecting more for the Bios of such powerful and customizable machine.

You can't really expect as much from a laptop bios, especially compared to a desktop version. You'd be hard pressed to find many laptops that give options for say, overclocking, due to the tight tolerances in heat/power/cooling.

You're right in that it is pretty spartan, but considering there isn't much to do in most bios other than the boot manager, integrated device settings, and overclocking- they only left out the parts that are less likely to be useful on a laptop. It just means overclocking would have to be done through software (and it's still not recommended)

Great question...and the winner would have to be the 1600x900 matte. Tough decision but I despise my current laptop's glossy. I am pulling the trigger on the Sager NP5160!

    Wonderful, thanks!

Can someone explain to me the difference between the W150HN and the W150HNQ?

Also what is the difference between: (Found a wonderful answer/explanation here: http://www.xoticpcforums.com/showpost.php?p=55428&postcount=16 )

    Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card + Bluetooth
    Intel® Advanced-N 6230 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth ( + 25 )
    Intel® Ultimate-N 6300 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module ( + 35 )

How easy would it be for me to change out in the future if I decided to say buy the 6230 or 6300 offa ebay or from an existing laptop?

    Here's the difference:

Stock = 1x1 antenna, speeds of 150mbps. Bluetooth built in
6230 = 2x2 antennas, speeds of 300mbps, bluetooth built in
    6300 = 3x3 antennas, speeds of 450mbps no bluetooth

If you have a wireless N router at home, odds are it's 300mbps. (Unless you've got one of a handful of newer routers that do 450mbps). The 6300 will give you slighter stronger signal at the same range as the 6230 due to the extra antennas.

If you want to change it yourself, all you have to do is remove the keyboard and it'll let you unscrew the wireless adapter and unhook the antennas. Screw in the new adapter, attach the antennas, and put the keyboard back.

@WhiskeyD - dude I have the exact same thing.
When the machine arrived from PCTorque (with Intel SSD) and I read through the forums I locked the CPU to 99% as per advice here and the fan didn't kick in as much...

then about 2 weeks later my Vortex3 super fast SSD from OCZ arrived and I cloned the drive over and am now running it as my boot drive.

but today I noticed that the CPU option disappeared...googling led me right to here.

did you ever get this resolved ?

to continue this briefly - I just checked my device manager (haven't bothered to look at it since I cloned the drives as the machine was fully configured) - and I noticed one unnamed device is missing.
anyone got any ideas what it might be - here's a full expanded screenshot of the device manager.

(note that the non-stock hardware like USB hubs + printers + wacom tablet etc etc are all functioning normally when connected...this screenshot was taken with NOTHING connected to the computer)

No, I never figured it out. I'm just running it at 100%.. I noticed u had a C300 also, maybe it has to do with the ssd?

edit - I have't tried to repair windows yet with the dvd so I havent ruled out that solution.

Update on my laptop: so bad news is I still don't have my laptop due to the longer then expected B156HW01 V.4 screen delay. But the good news is that I was able to change my shipping address to the residence I will be at next month so I won't miss my shipment :)

I'll make a full report of my findings when I do receive the laptop however.

Funny thing is I cant go pick it up as it not allowed to be picked up due to contract of it needing to be delivered one try first. Xoticpc says it costs a little money to allow an intercept pick up. So, I will get it Thursday as the address will be closed when i get off work.
UPDATE. UPS delivered it anyways. Sweet. Will get Security software and other essentials on it tonight and see ho she runs.

The brick isn't too big. The length of a pen and about 1.5 inches thick. I'd say the cord is 10-12ft long.

I just got my laptop and I have the 1600x900 matte screen. The screen seems great compared to my 4 year old Inspiron 1024x768 matte. I haven't had much time to critique it as I'm trying to learn Windows7 and all this SSD stuff.

    I have some questions.
1.) Any of you using UEFI boot enabled? Is this motherboard primary or secondary UEFI boot?
2.) I botched my first Windows7 install and want to retry with a clean install. Google searches suggest using this HDDerase tool but I can't get it to recognize my Crucial c300.
3.) Which screws do I need to remove to pop out my rom drive?

I went with the stock wifi (Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card + Bluetooth). It's actually under the main panel next to the ram so no keyboard removal required. I was happy to see 3 antenna wires there even though my stock card only uses two antennas. So upgrading to a better wifi card with 3 antennas won't require running another antenna wire.

That's actually pretty common. Clevo wires in the antennas (just as they leave in all the other expansion options). It means that all the end user or reseller would have to do is install the card and connect the right number. Antennas don't cost much and it saves time because they don't know how many are needed- most laptops that have models offering up to 3x3 will include all 3 anyway.

That's the general rule anyway, as always there are tons of exceptions :D

I love this laptop. Runs sweet. I am more of a websurfer etc. But my fans turned on, to where they were noticeable at 40 Celsius. My room is air conditioned at 75 degrees. Over all very quite.
With Firefox 4.0 open and 6 window tabs open it uses 1.86 gb of memory. Quite a lot if you ask me. I do use Nortons (Symantec Endpoint Protection) for security/anti virus.

looks like 2 new screen options at XoticPC:

15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) (New Sager Option) ( + 145 )

15.6" FHD 16:9 "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) (New Sager Option) ( + 145 )

I'm not sure if its the same AUO screen for the matte or not.

Sager recently (this afternoon actually) made available those two screen options on all 15" models, including the 5165, 8130 (P151HM1), and 8150 (P150HM). It's being offered at $95 for the latter two by default as well now that it's an official option.

That glossy screen might just be the famed Dell R+GBLED screen. Sounds like the AUO v7. The matte is probably the matte version of that screen (the one that has been offered for awhile now and is actually the upgraded panel for Thinkpads).

Theoretically it's the same upgraded Matte screen, just being offered for less money and officially supported through Clevo. It is however 95% color gamut versus the stock 60%

The 5160 is the only model that the upgrade price for the 95% Gamut screen will be $145, all others are $95. This is Sager pricing and will be the same for all dealers.

Since we have been upgrading the screens for several months ourselves the stock matte screen were not "theoretically the same" as listed above by malibal. We have seen various screens being used as old cheaper matte option. These new 95% screens that Sager is offering are coming from Clevo, they are not being installed by Sager. (ETA for these new screens from Clevo is approximately next week from what he have been told by Sager)

I've been using my laptop for 3-5 hours daily since I bought it and I noticed the case is starting "creak" a lot more. When I type the bottom right area where my palm rest is constantly making noise. Also, The lid does not feel as tight as it used to be. I can live with the creaks I just dont want this thing to fall apart in a year or two!

Laptop has been running great. I went out and used it to data log my Corvettes engine for about 3 hours. Still had over 50% battery when I came back.
I am going to shut down a few programs that start up with the laptop, to reduce the amount of memory it uses. With Firefox and afe windows open it was close to 2GB. Thats a bit much, IMHO.
Any programs that you guys know I can shut off, and only open when needed, like Office (already set up to not start), camera, finger security, etc etc?

idk, much of that ram is normal prefetching by windows 7. as long as you are not getting choked on ram for the programs you need to run, it should be fine.

Windows 7's memory management is light years better than any previous Microsoft operating system. As long as all your programs are running smoothly, there's no need to make any changes.

He was saying that the upgraded 95% matte screens now being offered from Clevo are the same ones that some resellers have been offering i.e. AUO B156HW01 V.4.

You know this makes it tempting to cancel my current order, reorder and save a few bucks which might even speed up the delivery anyway. However I think I'm going to stick through it all, I don't want to step on anyone's toes. @Justin So if my laptop is still waiting on the Auo V.4 is it going to come from Clevo now?

*runs into the hall* "Reseller Rumble!" jk
