Yep, just use msconfig and disable the "hotkey" program under startup. The hotkeys will still work, but won't show any indicator.

I disabled the hotkey program but I now cannot use the VGA button to switch between the iGPU and the nVidia one.

Has anyone upgraded this laptops cpu or just memory? Wondering if a CPU or memory upgrade is worthwhile.
I may end up using this laptop to power a TV, 46 inch LCD as its monitor etc.

    Steve,

Your laptop does not need upgrading to run as an HTPC (Assuming that is what your wanting to do). It has more than enough CPU horse power and enough ram for that type of use.

I've been a year with my laptop Sager NP5160. Happy. I finished Crisis 2, Deus EX Human Revolution. Assasins Creed's Brotherhood and waiting for new titles and go on making juice but never reached 100% of demand on my machine.

Has anyone updated the cpu with a i7 ivy bridge? If so what is needed. Bios update?

I was looking at the i7 3820QM. It would be a great upgrade from the I3 2310m I have now.

Hey guys! So I got my lappy from xotic back when it first came out, and now I'm wanting a little more. I went with the original screen, which i'm now tired of and want a full 1080p. I see there's a nicer matte upgrade, any idea where I might be able to find that?

I also want to get a 60gb Intel 520 ssd for my OS and swap partition (on Linux so that should be plenty) and a caddy for my current HDD. Any good recommendation for the caddy?

You may want to check with your reseller to see if they would be able to sell you an upgrade display for it.

You can also check with any reseller for the hard drive caddy, we carry them in our accessory store.

a 60Gb drive is a bit tight for installing the OS, it will work but there really won't be room for much else. If I may suggest the 120GB drive or at least 80-90GB then it gives you a bit more wiggle room. :)

Great thanks! I'll contact Xotic. As for the drive, I decided to actually go with the Samsung 830... but still the 64gb. I currently have my OS on a 15 gb partition (although it is starting to fill up) + 8 gb swap so I feel like it should be fine. I don't wanna dish out an extra $60 with everything else I'm getting

Guys, I am thinking of investing in a notebook cooler pad because of high temperatures. Is the Cooler Master Notepal CMC3 any good?

Also I disabled multitouch by accident (I think it's cause I installed the latet driver from Sager). How can I enable it again?

Can anyone send me a link to the original version of Intel MYWifi dashboard that came on these latpops? I updated the software, and now my phone wont receive from the Wifi when it is a hotspot. I have the Ultimate 6300 wifi on here. The new dashboard has no preferences etc to allow to turn off DHCP, which for some reason when disabled, allows my phone to recieve data from the Wifi.
I am on travel, no wifi, and like to use my phone to get connected to the internet etc.

Hi, I recently went on a flight to go back to college for the fall and after the flight, I noticed that the button (the VGA button) does not seem to work anymore. The light under it still works as it still lights up the button as orange but I am simply not able to switch between the two graphic cards using the button. I've tried reinstalling hotkey but that doesn't seem to work. The icon in the system tray looks like this: Untitled.png Before, the icon didn't have the red sign on it. What do you think could have happened and is there a way for me to easily fix this?

Hello, does anyone know if Sager/XoticPC can provide a BIOS with more functionality? By that I mean giving the end-user the ability to disabling HT or certain cores. I'm using a NP5160 that's about 1.5 years old; it has the 2620QM and a GT540m

I'm starting to have problems with my Sager now that its like 1.5 years old. The most annoying problem is how it will randomly not POST. Press the power button and the lights come on and the fan spins but no picture or POST. You have to reset the CMOS battery just to get it to POST. Anyone else have this problem? I'm also getting random BSOD. This is my Sager laptop and I must say I dont think I would buy another..

This. My lappy hasn't been working for the last couple of days, and this is definitely the problem. The Xotic PC rep hasn't been much help. Could you tell me how the remove the battery? This thing is stuck as a pig...
EDIT: I might've even unseated the battery holder from the pcb... how big of an issue is that...?

Anyone have their fan vibrating excessively? I've tested the fan individually as shown in the video and the vibrations stop when I tilt it a certain angle, implying that the rotations are misaligned due possibly to the fan bearings being loose.

    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/19156882/20130122_235135.mp4

I've googled a bit for the particular model ADDA AB75054X-GE3 with the part number 6-31-b41MS-104 and resellers are quoting £50 per unit excluding shipping from Brazil:

    Cooler Original H-Buster HBNB-1403/200 - AB7505HX-GE3 R$165,00 - NOTEPART | TodaOferta

Would it be possible for any of the resellers to keep stock of said part? Or possibly help secure one? I've sent an email to XoticPC whom I purchased my laptop from some 2 years back but have gotten no response since.

Sorry to hear about the fan noise.
Can you tell me which email address you sent the question to, i'll ask them to look for it.
You can also shoot me a PM with your original order number and we can see about getting a replacement from Sager but we dont carry them on hand.

A BIOS update probably wont fix your issue. Download WhoCrashed Resplendence Software - WhoCrashed, automatic crash dump analyzer which will create a log of the BSOD pointing to the exact problem. Then we can help diagnose from there.

It would depend on the full specs. If you could post those and their asking price. Compare that to the NP6165 as that is the newer replacement for this one.

    Hey, thanks for responding!

It's a done deal, as I bought the laptop today, but I'd like your opinion all the same:

    I paid $550 for:

Sager NP5160 Custom Laptop (Built on the Clevo W150HN)
    - Bluetooth: Internal Bluetooth + EDR
    - Camera: Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera
    - Dead Pixel Warranty: Standard Dead Pixel Policy
    - Display: 15.6" FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glare Type Screen
    - Exterior Finish: Standard Finish
    - Fingerprint Reader: Integrated Fingerprint Reader
    - Graphics Video Card: nVidia GT 540M 1024MB PCI-Express GDDR3 DX11 with Optimus™ Technology
    - Memory Card Reader: Internal 4-in-1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO)
    - Optical Drive: ~ 6X Blue-Ray Read/8X DVDRW Super Multi Combo Drive-
    - Primary Hard Drive: ~ 500GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)
    - Processor: - 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM, 2.0-2.8GHz, (32nm, 6MB L3 cache)
    - Ram: ~ 8GB DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS)
    - Sound Card: Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included
    - Thermal Compound: - IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU
    - Warranty: 3 Year Labor 1 Year Parts, Lifetime Sager Toll Free Tech Support
    - Wireless Network: Intel® Ultimate-N 6300 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module

The seller bought the laptop from you guys, originally. I entered the above on another gaming laptop site that popped up when I did a search (most sites no longer carried this model as you know) and the total came to $900-something ...

Was $550 too much to pay?

And would you advise me to update any of the drivers/bios etc? He just wiped the machine and reinstalled the original "Sager" driver cd that came with it.

I think you got a good deal for it. I wouldnt worry about the BIOS, best rule of thumb for that is if its not broke, dont fix it.
For drivers i'd get the latest ones direclty from Sager here Software Upgrade since there could be newer updates vs whats on the disc.

Hey thanks. That was, of course, the answer I was hoping for.

I tried playing Bioshock Infinite today and was incredibly disappointed by the performance ... everything sluggish at the lowest settings. I thought man, did I make a mistake with this purchase? But I eventually realized that even though the orange light was on, the nvidia card was not in use ...I will try the updated drivers from the link you posted. Thanks again.

$550 isn't too shabby. It is a beast of a laptop 2 years later still. Hard to gauge prices with sager at is a boutique brand but a great brand. As for drivers, you should be alright with what is on the CD but it doesn't hurt to look and see what needs to be updated. If you're technical saavy I would open it up and out fresh thermal grease in the CPU and GPU. Very easy to do on the 5160. And blow it out even though it might look clean from the vents.
And slap a ssd in it for ultimate performance. Crucial and samsung should do well. I had a problem with an Intel 320 not going into standby consistently. Also, if you stream videos from your laptop, or with video out, using the Intel integrated CPU might not work very well and you might have to turn on the nvidia. I know Netflix might be an issue off the top of my head and some other service I tried but don't use.

So, my NP5160 decided to die today apparently. Heard a pop, then the fan died. Started to overheat so I shut it down. Assumed the fan went bad, but I can jump it with a battery without a problem. Anyone have any thoughts on what I can do to fix it?

I have Windows 7, 64 bit system and would like to know if I can upgrade to the Intel Wireless 7260 chip for AC wifi capability.
I currently have the intel 6300n ultimate AGN.

Hi guys, I bought my W150HN 2 years ago, and it's served me well throughout. However, the problem is, after upgrading to Windows 8.1, my reinstallation of Hotkey 3.3029 has the "performance" power setting greyed-out, and I feel a definite performance hit. Is there a fix?
EDIT: I updated to the latest Hotkey availible for my system, 3.3044 and there isn't even a "performance" radio button anymore. Will it impact my performance, and is there a way to fix/compensate?

Hello folks, I got a bit of a situation here, i locked my bios with a password some time ago and today when I decided it was time to restore one of my acronis backups i had a bad surprise when i found out that I didn't remember the bloody password so I could change the boot sequence.

Any ideas on how to remove the password ? Im trying to use Cmospwd but since im running Win7 64 bits the proggie seens to get stuck on the ioperm.exe install.

So if you guys have any solutions to this nasty problem, please share, I'm in dire need of help on this one

    Thanks
