I recently bought iTunes match, which is a service offered by iTunes that uploads all of your music library to the cloud. When it was doing this, a lot of items were taking an unusual amount of time (30 min+) and overall the process was slow and laggy. Is this hard drive failure?

What are the specs of your machine? Could be a combination of things including slow net speed, RAM shortage, etc... If you have a mechanical HDD and it starts going out you'll typically be able to hear noticeable noises coming from where the HDD is.

It could just be the program was using small bits of lots of files which would hit a mech HDD hard.

have you been on nvidia's website and downloaded the most recent graphics drivers? also what i do is after i install the new driver i go into C:/Nvidia and delete the previous folder with old driver installation files. you might want to keep the driver you know is stable and see how to new driver works for you.

    Hi.

I have a P151hm1 with a Nvidia GTX 560M. I have had this laptop for 2 years and it has been great but I have noticed a drop in performance.

Does this laptop have nvidia optimus technology? How do I know if my laptop is running on the GTX 560m?

I play League of Legends on max settings and it is a very low intensive game and my FPS can drop down to 30s and I feel like it should not be doing this.

    Anything will help.

    Thank you

No optimus so it's always using the 560m.

when did you last clean the system? What temperature are your cpu and gpu running at?

I have never actually cleaned it. I have had it for just over 2 years. I am a newb when it comes to that. Is there a guide for that? And I wouldn't know how to repaste.

Thank you so much for your help so far.

For cleaning, just unscrew the backplate and slide it off, then use compressed air to blow out your fans. You may want to use a paper clip or something to hold the fans stationary -- some people have said that the compressed air forces the fans to spin faster than what they're designed for, which could lead to shortened fan life (YMMV).

For repasting, there's several guides on the forum here. Basically you unscrew the heatsinks, then use rubbing alcohol and Qtips to clean off all the old paste from both the bottom of the heatsink and the top of the card. Once they're clean, wait for them to dry, and then apply new thermal paste (IC Diamond, Prolimatech, Arctic Silver 5, etc) to the top of the CPU/GPU. My best results have come from applying paste so that it looks like a large grain of rice along the long axis of the exposed metal top of the CPU/GPU.

Yep, just a little research and you will be good to go :) Guides for the 150 and 170 series will all apply (HM, EM, SM) since they all use the same layout.

After a two year hiatus, having sold my old NP8130, I just bought another one. Identical specs, i7 3670, GTX560m, etc, but I could not pass up on the price...

In any case, I have a couple of questions that may be answered in this thread but I could not find a definite answer.

Does the NP8130 motherboard support mSATA? There seems to be a port for it, of similar size to the one I had in the Lenovo Ideapad Y410p.

What is the latest BIOS, and where can I get it? Currently I have BIOS version 1.02.24LS1, EC version 1.00.13SA2 and the VBIOS version 70.29.29.00.06.

    Thanks. :)

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that since this NP8130 is at least a year newer than my old one, it may have mSATA onboard. No worries, I think I will just order the caddy for the optical bay and install a regular hdd in there.

As to the BIOS, I will just leave it alone since the laptop works without any issues.

No its left bare, it's under the keyboard area IIRC. You can pad it to the casing if you like.

I don't think so but of all the cards clevo/sager models get on best with the quadro ones. Worth a shot. But it may not work due to no optimus.

    I've been using this RAM:

    KHX1600C9S3P1K2/8G

in my Sager NP8130 and it does overclock to 1600MHz.

Those modules failed and I'm planning to buy these:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KQCOTCM/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1

Even though they're only 1.35V, can they run at 1.5V without any problems? And what mechanism do they use to "auto overclock" in laptops? It's not the XMP profile, is it?

No it's the spd they use. 1.5v should be fine.

It depends on the kit you buy, the SPD will be set to the advertised speeds and latency.

Anyone is using Windows 8.1 Update 1? My wifi (Qualcomm Killer Wireless-N 1102) is dropping constantly.

I tried disabling the wifi adapter, and used another USB wifi dongle, the DWA-125 from D-Link, but wifi still drops. Is anyone having the same problem?

Meaker, can you confirm that this model does not have the iGPU activated and therefore no optimus? So we can overclock the display?

    This quote from the OP:

Also, another question, does the heatsink differ in size from the 560M and 580M (151HM/150HM)? Like they have a bigger cooling capacity and runs cooler if the 580 heatsink is fitted onto the 560?

Yes no IGP active, all driven off the dedicated GPU.

The thermal pad arrangement is a bit different, the most recent SM series heatsinks do fit and they are improved so grabbing one of them is a good idea.

I'd like to upgrade my graphics card from the 560m, but from the browsing around I've done it's not clear to me what the best option to pursue is. I've heard some people say 580m which would necessitate upgrading the power supply to a 180w (and possibly the heat sink? I'm also not clear on that). But I've also heard some people more recently mention the 670m. (I'm not sure if that necessitates upgrading the power supply?)

    Any recommendations?

Also - Someone mentioned to me if I'm going to buy a card on say, Ebay, that it not only has to be the correct type (Say 580m) but it also has to further be from a Sager, for instance, if it's from Alienware it won't work. Is that true? I've been unable to find an answer on that one.

    Thanks.

7970M V1.2 (not v1.1) PCB with HM bios or 680M with first release BIOS I believe are the two best options. Both would need a 180W brick and would need to be sager/clevo cards. The heatsink can just have the pads re-arranged or you can upgrade to a heatsink from an SM series.

HM is the series of machine,

    HM = 2nd Gen I7
EM = 3rd Gen I7 (also can run 2nd gen but happens rarely)
    SM = 4th Gen i7

You would have to check bios versions with the reseller. Check the guides on the forum for each card as they have specific versions.

    Hi,

My Sager NP8130 from 2011 is having the same power problem. The green light of the power adapter can be on, but when I plug it into the laptop then the green light is off. I think the power adapter works well but there is completely no power going into the laptop, even with or without battery.

Should I send it for repair? It looks like it will cost a few hundreds to replace the motherboard.

Either the board is damaged and shorting the brick 9th or the brick is damaged and can't power a load. If the brick needs replacing it's not too bad. If the motherboard does either do the work yourself with a cheap board off the likes of eBay or compare your repair cost vs the cost of a modern system.

I brought the laptop for service and they confirmed the motherboard dead.

    Now I have two choices:
    - Buy another motherboard from eBay. Mine is a Clevo P151HM1, which a Clevo P150HM can still fit. This costs nearly 300 and I hesitate as the laptop is 4 years old.
    - Buy another barebone and try to reuse the CPU (Intel i7-2620M), GPU (nVidia GTX460M), and RAM.

Will those new barebones from Clevo support my old CPU and GPU?

No, the EM is the only other system to support your CPU. Then again a NP7339 barebone offers a lot more performance than your setup.

I have a Clevo P151HM1 which I purchased from ibuypower a while ago. It has a GTX 560m in it and I would like to upgrade it. What upgrade pathways are available? I would like to put in a 770m if possible. If not, 675m or 680m.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Does anyone know what kind of screws does the P151HM1 have?
I have lost most of them and its really confusing trying to find out what they are

Talk to a local reseller, they should be able to provide you with a pack of screws for the series (The SM series used the same screws).

So I am proud owner of the np8130 for almost 6 years! All my gaming laptops prior never lasted longer than 3 years. Anyway, it might be the end of this comp's life. I can't play heroes of the storm, a very light game, without it crashing every game. I played the game for a year with no problems and blizzard isn't helping me out. What can I do to update this computer to the max? I update the gpu driver to no avail. I also don't update windows 7 because it instantly slows down my comp. I tired windows 10 but it ran the game even worse and crashed. Do I need to update windows? What other drivers should I update? I also remember some bios update - I did it once but I've reformatted the comp numerous times so I'm not sure if that was undone. Any help would be appreciated thanks!
