Kinda of a stupid question guys, but is it possible to upgrade a P151HM1 with a GTX460M to a 7970? If yes is it hard to do? What would one need?

Hey guys quick question. I have attempted to reapply thermal paste to the gpu but am not sure if i applied it the right way. Am i supposed to cover the whole thing in thermal paste or just the center part (shiny metal area)? What i have noticed is that there are grooves in the gpu so i am not sure how much of the chip to cover. I have also used the credit card technique to spread the thermal paste evenly. I used arctic silver 5 paste btw and am getting 90c on full load while gaming. Should i also wait and let the thermal paste settle in before doing anythinig?

Sounds like a bad application to me. All you really need is a pea size dot in the center and then press the heatsink down firmly (not hard, just firm) and apply even pressure as you're fastening it. Too much paste is always better than too little, but you're never going to get optimal temps by putting too much. 90c isn't too dangerous, it's close, but if you clean it off and reapply with a little less you're going to see better results.

anyone else's touchpad extremely worn out? It's getting frustrating to use.
All of a sudden smooth tracking then it's just halted.

Happens on a lot of Clevo machines... the W150ER had this too, and so does my W860CU :(

Darn. But I could put a GTX680m in it? or a 670m? What is it about the MX that isn't compatible, do you know?
    Thanks For your Help!

No 680M either, any 100w TDP cards aren't supported by Sager as they could damage the motherboard components as its a higher power draw then its designed for. You may be able to put a 670M in there but it wouldn't be much of a jump from your current GPU.

I dont know exactly why the MX isnt support, it could be the new 22nm architecture or something as simple as the BIOS/vBIOS not supporting it.

Hi! yesterday I reformatted my np8130, and I already installed the drivers needed. I also installed the protector suite 2009, but I says that I don't hav license and in only running in trial version. Before I reformatted I have a full version of the program, anyone know where can I retrieve my previous license? thanks!

Really isn't a way to recover it if you didn't record the key prior to the format. Best bet would likely to be to contact their customer service and see if they can help recover that key for you.

No, just download the protector suite from Clevo's or Sager's website, install that and you'll have a full licensed copy. If you want to upgrade to the latest protector suite, download it from upek's website and the install it OVER your current without uninstalling it. It will just perform an upgrade procedure then, no hassle.

There is no license key provided to us. It is embedded in the download from clevo or sager.

It's due to the latest bioses having some changes that the older machines did not like, the 680M also wont boot on a later version bios.

I would go with a 680M and maybe undervolt it (they have a lot of headroom) and you should be fine. (Svl7 should be able to do that for some beer money, say 0.925v would be worth a shot).

Does anyone know if the P170hm(np8170) motherboard is compatible with the p151hm1(np8130)? The dimensions seem to be identical but the P170hm is missing a power button at SW1 location since P170hm has its power button on the opposite side (as to the p151hm1).

well, I recently switched from Sennheiser's CX 300 II Precision (16Ohm Impedance) to Shure's SE215 (20Ohm Impedance) and I can hear a substantial quality difference (mostly in lower frequencies) when using the earphones with my iPhone 4, meaning they sound much better with the iphone. I'm assuming there is now way if increasing the power output of the on-board sound card other than using an external amplifier?

    thanks

That's pretty much correct. The best way to improve audio performance in these machines is to buy an external sound card. We have good experience with the Xonar U3 on our side but these forums are full of other suggestions if you were looking for something a little different.

I definitely don't want to spend a ton of money, so the Xonar U3 seems like a good option.

I have had my P151HM1 (purchased through Sager) since May 2011. I hope that battery life estimate was a mistake. I have never even had 1 hour of battery life.

Someone considering purchasing one of these should also be aware of the power adapter size and weight. It is a huge brick. On top of that, the power adapter is poorly designed. The cord did not last past 2.5 years. Replacing it seemed like a good thing until it smoked the highest grade power adapter to be found at Microcenter in under 3 months.

This is a laptop, but not a very portable computer.

So I've had my Clevo P151HM1 for a year and a half now, recently it started messing up. Not sure what is causing the problem but it started when I turned it on and said can not start up must do repairs so I did the repairs thought everything was fine then drivers stopped working like the webcam, thx sound, etc...I reinstalled the drivers and now thought finally things are ok. Well no now sometimes when I start it up it says in a warning box must restart computer drivers not install or something along those lines. Happened 2 or 3 times now and I restarted before but now ignore it and what happens is when I browse the internet (im using firefox) randomly 3 or 4 times I've had to turn off my computer manually because the whole thing freezes up! Never had this before, what do you guys think I should do? Should I keep looking to see what the problem is or reformat my laptop. Note I've never reformatted since having it so I'm a bit rusty on how to do that should that be the route I need to go.

last night my laptop fell with my backpack while i was walking (backpack strap snapped). when i checkered my laptop, the gpu vent had cracked and the heat sink was a little bent too. i tried to turn on the laptop and everything went well for the first five mins, until the laptop screen turned pink and then the led indicators all started blinking with a beeping sound. it then just shut down, and i tried to turn it on again. after a few mins, it happned again but the screen turned to dark blue and shutdown again. i tried to remove the ram, but didnt fix the issue. i also noticed that the games are running really slow, like im playing on a computer with no video card. but i checked on device manager and it recognizes my gpu, and even GPU Z detects the hardware. anyone know whats happening to my sager? help! :(

Hi guys, I've got the resale brand metabox p151hm1 with original 560m but have been able to source the 660m mxm card from eBay. Installed it and laptop turns on but stays at boot up screen with only CPU and memory specs shown. the power and HDD button are also lit up for like 3 seconds only After which those lights turns off and it just sits there With the GPU fan amped up.

Am I missing something? There has been posts that they are compatible . cheers

    Hi Meaker,

There is no brand on it that I can see. But on the card and in bios it shows vbios revision 80.07.2c.00.12 which on techpowerup website is a asus brand?

I bought the card off ebay and the guy claims he took it out of his p150em.

In bios it shows my vga card as Empty but reads the vbios revision and build date as 05/11/12.

my mobo bios is 1.01.14 and KBC/EC Firmware is 1.00.13

The PCB is blue where as my 560m is green. It is odd that it doesn't work as online there are many threads that say my p151hm1 can support up to 680m and 7970m provided with the right power supply.

I just wonder if it is a faulty card.. :(

    Hi, I have a Clevo P151HM1 notebook.
I've had it since July 2011. It has been working perfectly ever since I got it.
I bought it from ibuypower, not sager. But, that should not change anything.
Here's my problem: my laptop won't turn on!
When I hit the power button, the green led indicator for power turns green for about 1 second, then flashes once, and stays dark.
If i hit the power button again right after it flashes, i can see a faint green flash if i look into where the indicator light is. it isnt a bright green, more like the led gets power for 1/5 of a second. if i wait for a few seconds, and hit the power button, the flashing happens again. I have yet to get it to turn on.
I just finished disassembling the laptop. i uncouples everything except the lcd screen cause i just didnt think it would change anything, replaced the cmos battery, reseated the video card (460m), processor, and the 2 ram sticks under the keyboard and one in the back slot. reapplied thermal compound to the processors. it still wont start. when i take out the battery and try to turn it on, no luck. same with just the battery put in without ac power. after the last time i turned it off, when i went to put the laptop down on the floor (it was ontop of a laptop cooler. i was putting it down while it was riding on the cooler still, so to speak) i dropped it for about 1 inch and didnt realize it until it was too late. it did a little micro bounce, but nothing sounded like it broke. it was plugged in to the ac adapter at the time. the battery charging indicator light comes on orange, as does the power light. when i try to turn it on, the battery light stays orange and the charge light does the green flash cycle, before turning orange.
    is this a motherboard problem?
i checked the ac adapter and laptop ports with a multimeter. the adapter is fine. giving out 19.5-ish volts. when i measure where the battery connects to mobo, i get 0, 0, 3.3, 3.3, 3.3, 0, 0 (volts). i started from the leftmost pin going right, using rightmost pin with black probe, and i didnt short out anything. i get 3.3v when measuring the ports around the laptop from the pin with the black probe, and from other pins as well.

edit: the battery is charging correctly. So, i am thinking that i have either a processor, ram, video, failure, or the motherboard died from that little bouncing it experienced from the 1 to 1.5 inches i dropped the laptop.
    thanks for any help.

Does anyone have a picture of the fans? I took them out for cleaning and now I forgot which blade is for which side. Now there's some beeping noise and on the left 2 lights came on/off.

If you mean the cooling fan for the gpu side vs the cpu side, they should only fit in one of the slots. they cannot be swapped. the screw holes wouldnt line up. anyway, the GPU fan is the bigger one. the cpu fan has a plastic o-ring design around all of the blades inside the fan casing.
-at least, for the p151hm series

Yes just put them in and match the plastic rings of each one to the screw holes to hold the fans down.

just thought i might add this to my previous message.
when i first got the laptop from ibuypower, the nvidia card kept crashing and restarting. after about 1 day it fixed itself, so i thought it was the driver not working right. but, i just read that some1 else had the same problem and it was a bad motherboard. any ideas?
the laptop has been working fine for 2 years since the gpu screen problem.

I know that, but i thought i should mention the problem i had with the gpu. today (october 13, 2013) i am currently going thru the laptop, taking off each connector and trying to turn the laptop on after each removal. im leaving the cpu and its heatsink and fan connected for now. they will be the last things connected eventually. im hoping that the cpu fan will eventually start to spin, or the power indicator led will change from the 1 green flash to a solid green. the problem might, but probably not, be the secondary ram slots.( the ones under the keyboard). i just read in the manual for the p151hm1 that they should only be used after the first 2 are used, and that they are not user upgradable (which was a lie to keep ignorant users from destroying the motherboard i guess). i will reply again later today with hopefully good news.

so i took the whole bloody thing apart. still no good. even with the bare board and led indicator hooked up, it wont boot or do anything besides the green blink. i would buy a replacement motherboard, except that they cost $500. i havent been able to find one thats for 100-200$ anywhere. if any1 knows where i can find a clevo p150hm motherboard for less than 200-300$, please post a link here! thanks

thanks. it will have to be a whole-day operation to check everything in the service manual! many circuit diagrams are in there, but sadly not one for the whole board. I can extrapolate it from the individual pieces though. the only motherboard/mainboard i have found is for 500$. you can buy a new barebone for $600. >.>

The motherboard is the most expensive part to make.

is the 314.22 the only stable driver for the 460m? I've had issues with random freezes and slowdowns, stops while gaming or browsing internet on both my DEsktop (GTX 470) and notebook and it seems from various sources on Internet that it is all related to Nvidia drivers post 314.22. And yes I've checked everything else, including dust, etc.
