Just placed order with xotic. Soon as I know when it ships I'll pick up an SSD as well.

Do you guys recommended opting for the IC-Diamond Thermal Compound option? or is Sager good with their stock thermal paste?
-
i'm not sure how their stock thermal paste is but i went with the IC-Diamond Thermal. Its not an expensive upgrade and I'm sure if you do a lot of intensive gaming it could be helpful
-
hey guys, I'm planning to purchase the Sager NP 8130 but after knowing the random freezes issue, I'm quit worried about it.
Do you guys have any comments/opinions?
Should I place an order now?
Please help!
Thanks in advance. -
I can tell you that personally I have not experienced any random freezes.
Yes you should place an order now if you want your laptop soon -
-

You've got the point batman, but I'm so desperate to grab the "Beast".
-
-
If true, it'd say it's significant enough to warrant the small extra (to save your lap!) -
On a similar note don't put laptops on your lap, especially gaming ones because you can suffocate the laptop and reduce your fertility all in one go.

A question to NP 8130 owners.
Would the text looks too small (FHD on a 15.6" LCD)? I tried to find a store to check it out myself but can't find a store (Bestbuy, Staples, etc.) that carry a 15.6" laptop with FHD display.
I am debating getting a NP 5170 or NP 8130. Beside a better GPU what else that justify the price difference? will there be anything difference in build quality?
What is the battery life with normal internet access (no gaming)?
Thanks a bunch. -

You get better cooling and a somewhat quieter operation with the 8130. You wouldn't be able to get optimus on the 8130, obviously. And no, all of clevo's laptops are made with the highest quality, so you're getting pretty much the best chassis.
The battery life while using the internet...you should expect no more than 2-3 hours.

For battery life on mine I got 3 and half hours with half brightness wifi on and internet and itunes open. I was very suprised by the battery life. A lot better then expected

Heyyy not bad. This machine is still being confined to a desk, lol
When I want battery life, I'll just use my netbook.

Indeed, with the default windows settings, things are a bit small (though very crisp). I found settings windows at 125% normal size produces a "normal" sized interface. -
How are the speakers? -
-
Really good for laptop speakers. The sub woofer on the bottom adds a bit of kick to all sound. The real champ here, in my opinion, is the THX software. It makes the sound for the laptop.

Yup. It has shipped.
Pay the man!
Problem is, I live so far away it's gonna take a while to get here.

I don't know how much longer I can wait. Spent the last 4 months using my old Toshiba ( Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114 Review - Laptops - CNET Reviews) and it's starting to wear on me... -

But you would be surprised at how fast ground shipping actually is, for me the estimate is 3 days. -

I swear, at the time of buying my laptop, I was resigned to wait for an entire month before it arrived on my doorstep. Are our resellers awesome or what?
Mr. Mysterious -
Waiting for the eCheck to clear added an extra day before my order went to phase 2. -
I guess that the rush order that you beat xotic into giving you really paid off.
I live in Seattle, WA which isn't terribly far from sager... Maybe I will still get mine first!!! -

But until then, it is SO on.
On a more personal note, I have been wrestling with the choice between a 8150 with the 460M or my current 8130. Call it buyer's remorse or whatever, but I really need someone to convince me that the upgrade options for the 8130 are not as limited as I think they are...
However, I really do think that once I get my machine, all my doubts will vanish and I'll really start enjoying everything.

Really? Awesome!
Thanks, that cheers me up a hell of a lot more. I'll go and do some research on the GTX560M...if I were to guess, not that much of a boost above the 485M, but I'll take any improvements, thanks.
Edit: Bah! It's not looking good...But at least I'm seeing people say that the 460M is nicely overclockable!
Mr. Mysterious -
Also... you should not feel bad about having buyer's remorse, because I regret buying the computer without my logo painted on the back. I'm going to have trouble convincing people that it is a legitimate replacement for the bat-top pc. -

Well either ways, I'm set for the next couple of years....I'll start saving money up for an upgrade for a graphics card right now. But I won't actually upgrade it until further down the line.
Will definitely overclock my GC after a year though...then I'll buy some thermal paste and a good notebook cooler (probably the SF-19). This machine should be quite relevant for the next few years. I know, I know, people say that future-proofing is pointless and a waste of money. But it feels good to own a decent system, and the price is ridiculous for the components that I'm getting.
Mr. Mysterious -
I sorta have a little of that, buyers remorse too, but considering I was going to get the np5160, since it covered all of my needs, the 460m will give me a little room to breathe. I'm so excited they're finally rolling out hopefully mines will ship next week, and I can finally put an end to this ridiculously long wait.
And yes, you can't future proof electronics, nuff sed. -

Four business dayyssss!!! The wait is killing me!
I wonder if UPS ships, as in actually moves their products, on Saturday too....if it does, I'm going to get it sooner.
Really now, what's preventing anyone from putting a 485M or even a 6970M in an 8130? If it's the power brick then everyone would be flocking to the 8130 instead of buying the 8150 or 8170....But that's not happening.

I originally plan to buy Asus G73SW-XA1, but since amazon now post it as unavailable and no possible date when it will be available again I try to search for the alternatives and come to Sager N8130 which has almost same spec but even cheaper..
Few questions here:
1. What is the memory brand that used in NP8130? If I plan to upgrade to 16GB, can I add any brand of memory like Crucial or Corsair DDR3 1333/10600?
I asked this because I have experience when upgrading my macbook where same brand (Kingston) of memory but with different chipset manufacturer it won't start properly most of the time.
2. I saw a lot of the folks here are upgrading to Intel 6230 Wireless adapter, what are really the main difference with the standard wireless N that comes as the default? I try to read from page 1-60, and then jump to 111-120.. Maybe I miss out some of the discussion here
3. I am still considering between NP8130 and NP8170 mainly for the larger 17.3" screen. But they are few hundred bucks more expensive, and at lower spec starting point (4GB RAM, 320GB HDD). I know some folks stating that it support 485m card, but I am just casual gamer and don't want to pay that much for 485m. If 460m is enough, what are other considerations to get NP 8170? *glossy or matte is fine for me anyway, because I only use it at home
