I ordered 2 days after you but was delayed in paying. Xotic should get my check today or Monday so I hope my laptop is ready and waiting for the payment to clear so they can ship it.

One minor complaint...the card reader isn't deep enough for an SD card to fit all the way into it. It works fine but the card is sticking half way out of the slot.

Kind of stinks because I usually always have an SD card in my laptop but it doesn't seem like a good idea to keep this in here all the time with it sticking half way out, especially when moving the laptop around.

    Very minor thing though.

Lol, so far I haven't found anything to complain about. It's a great machine, and I'll start working on my review today :D

Also, I played Batman AA for about 20-25 mins on Max Settings, 4x AA, but with 968p resolution (I'll try 1080p with every single setting enabled next), and the temperatures never went above 55C on any component! Thats very nice, but I had my PC on a poor-quality notebook cooler (the cheap Antec one you can get on amazon) that has a metal top with holes in it, but it sucks air from the bottom of the PC and blows it out, instead of blowing air up into the bottom of the PC. I'm not sure, but I think I heard my fans kick in while playing Batman AA. I'll know more when I play more games.

Is anyone else getting really crappy wifi performance with the stock wireless card? I can sit in one spot and watch the speed rate in Windows fluctuate madly, but the signal strength stays constant. I also have difficulties connecting to my school's network, but the signal strength has always been pretty iffy there in general.

I get full signal strength, but I never noticed a fluctuating speed.

I got the stock wireless card too. I'm expecting my laptop to ship this week. If not I will have to send Xotic an email to see what's up because the overclocking should only take a week, but when I do I'll let you know what my experiences are with it.

And if your in need of a better network card, the good thing is they are selling the Intel 6300 on amazon for only $35 I think, pretty cheap, and its supposed to be pretty easy to install.

As far as the fluctuation, idk, I googled it a bit, but havent found a difinitive answer. If ur using bluetooth, try turning it off ans see if it improves.

EDIT: And goodluck Mr. Mysterious, I'm looking forward to that review to hold me over one more week :p

    Yay! will check it out!

BTW: on another note, I was debating buying some more ram for, my laptop, I know it already comes with 8gb, but newegg has a sale, for 8gb, for $70 w/ free ship, just wondering if it I should get it now. I'm working to become a professional programmer, so I can definitely see myself using it in 1-2 years, just wondering if it would be worth it to buy it now, or if I should wait for other deals.

I know the general sentiment is one should save money and go with an SSD or something, but I really don't need one, and don't want to be bothered, with managing on a ssd and a data drive, which is why I went for my hybrid in my sig.

I was also thinking about hacking something up that measures file usage sort of like the Momentus XT does, and using that info to build a ram drive, to sorta extend the hybrid from 4gb to 12gb, and ofcourse I can just shrink the drive when I need the extra ram. Maybe that will be my pet project this month. :p

Seems mythlogic tested NP8130 by putting a 485M into it and plugged it in the bigger power brick.

    Works perfectly as expected.

Unless you are getting 2x8GB RAM, there is no point in getting an additional 8GB from newegg because there are only 2 DIMM slots. You can have 2x4 (if you order it that way) or replace it with 2x8GB if you need it.

I haven't seen too many tests show the value of 16GB of RAM, though. Even 8 doesn't get fully utilized.

This information is not correct. The np8130 has room for 4 sticks of RAM, 2 are located under the keyboard and 2 are located on the bottom of the laptop. 4 sticks of memory are only supported by quad core processors.

I suggest waiting to purchase additional ram as prices will invariably lower with time.

Well, I ended up buying a used Intel 80gb G2 SSD locally for $120 instead of buying an OCZ online. I think the OCZ's drive failure rates scared me away.

Thanks for the replies, 2MNY is right, there are 4 DIMM slots, 2 under the keyboard and 2 on the back.

I know everyone says ram is a waste, and that ur better off getting an SSD, and a data drive, but I honestly don't feel the need for a super fast hard drive, most of the stuff I do is just launching apps a loading files, rarely is it anything over 5MB, I'd much rather keep a single large hard drive then have to manage 2 separate drives, just for some speed increases, and I want to keep the blu-ray to act as a blu-ray player for my TV. :p

16GB while extreme to some, seems like something I can definitely put to use. Multitasking should be awesome with Win7 and 16 gigs, however then again I'm use to 3 gigs and Vista. I would like to be able to keep 20 tabs open in firefox, several instances of visual studios, a light game, and perhaps a vm of ubuntu. That may sound a bit extreme, but I like being able to work with multiple programs at once. That being said, if you think 8GB would be sufficient for that, and that ram prices will fall further, I might be willing to wait, but 8GB for $70 seems like a pretty good deal, I'm not sure it's going to get any cheaper then that.... though lower is better. $40-60 would be ideal.

8gb for $70 is pretty good :) i'd buy it.. i got 12gb for $100ish for mine a while back

does the 8130 support 8gb sticks? if it does then it'd only take 2 since it only supports up to 16gb ram doesn't it? or does it hold 32gb?

My bad, I must have been thinking of the 2 DIMMs in the 5160 from when I was considering buying one. I still think 8GB is enough for most everybody -- that's what I have on my desktop running Win7 and I can routinely keep 15 tabs open in Chrome and play LOTRO with less than 60% of my RAM used. If you are going to be keeping the VM open all the time, though -- maybe go for the 16GB.

I know it is a lot to ask but are any owners of the NP8130 going to do a video review?

(For me a 3min video of the laptop in idle and in gaming would be enough – I just want to hear the fans noise :) )

One more thing to ask, does this notebook support 3D vision when we connect to an external 120Hz monitor?

Asus and alienware with gtx460m are promoting it on their pages..

I think you will have to download NVIDIA's latest drivers, which can be found on their site, the 270 version, in order to enable 3D vision on an external monitor.

Meh, okay I think I'm going to get it because it's on sale. If it was a lot of money I wouldn't, but I've been keeping a pretty good eye on memory prices the last 1-2 months while, my order has been processing and this is the best deal I've seen. If I have a lot of ram left over I'm sure I'll find a use for it somewhere down the line.

I will let you know when mine gets shipped! I was talking about my desktop with a Core 2 Duo / 5850 ... I'm interested to find out myself.

The game is really good looking and has a bunch of DX11 implemented -- considering that you can play a lot of it for free, it's worth installing and giving a run through, just to show off your system.

Sure. At least on XoticPC's site, with the 8130, it doesn't seem like Windows 7 32-bit Operating System isn't an option. That is something you ask your reseller for, in case you're interested in it. I'm pretty sure they would be able to accommodate you.

Ofcourse you need 64-bit. The 8130 comes with 8GB of RAM standard. with a 32-bit system, 4 of those 8GB won't even be used. I don't even see why a retailer would keep it as an option to be honest. If I can't be any clearer, If you were 99.9% sure, I am 100% sure you should get the 64-bit.

You want a 64bit version of Windows to use the laptop to it's full potential. Use 32bit only if you have an application or device that is not compatible with 64bit windows. I know there was a small group of users still attached to 32bit Windows but they are prejudiced by the poor reception of XP 64bit and haven't gotten over it yet.
