I got mine in 15 days, and i am staying in singapore.. So it is pretty far away![]()
Overall i cant believe i get this kind of notebook and performance for the price I pay.. It is S$1665 (includes 7% tax and shipping). To get this kind of spec in a notebook in singapore I must spend at least S$3000 for asus g73sw-a1 (we dont have the something similar to g73sw-xa1 price in amazon). even alirenware here are also much more expensive after counting tax plus shipping from us to Singapore. A logitech perf mouse mx cost almost double as well, so u guys in US are really lucky![]()
Overall i can say that the build quality is good, but now i understand those who complain. You really can feel that it is fragile when you start moving it around. Especially the back cover for the cpu and gpu. I wouldnt suggest it for people who want to carry their notebook around everyday..
Trackpad is bad, but i never use them anyway...
Screen is bright and looks really nice, viewing angle is good.. But I personally feel the resolution is a bit too high for 15.6" screen. Maybe i ll get used to it...
Fan speed is acceptable, and even if they are running fast and loud it sounds smooth.. Of course, 2 more years when the fan starts getting a bit loose it will sing a differrent tune..
overall i am happyand next time i ll go for 17"

Is there any discernable benefit to upgrading the wireless unit? I have mine completely stock and it detects the wifi just fine and hits the maximum dl speed capable of my network.
-
The Intel cards are dual band and have better range.
-
I have mine for 2 days, dont have any gripe with the stock wireless
in theory the stock card can run up to 150mbps.. Think they are more than enough for me
-
Thanks for the answer Malibal!
-
I went with PC Torque too. There was a delay in shipping my unit because of some system error, but they just upgraded my shipping to 3-Day for free.
-
I don't get any noise at all when just touching the space bar without pushing it down. I think you got a lemon, I would send it back if it was me.
-
Just open up the back panel and pop it in. The instructions are in the manual.
-
No dead/stuck pixels here.
-
So... UPS thought it would be funny to NOT knock the door or ring the doorbell and assume no one was home when my friend and his family were at home. Now they'll "try again laster." It's time to raise some Hell.
-
Lol. well atleast they delivered it to the right house. They delivered my $1500 laptop across the street to my neighboors house, luckily he was nice enough to bring it to many, a lot of people wouldn't though. Glad I leave in a semi decent neighborhood.
And about the stock card. No gripes here. It's much more powerful then my last card. It looks like I'm detecting every wireless signal in my small apt. complex. So I imagine the 6300 could jack internet from an entire city block!
-
He might not have been as nice if he had known what kind of super powered beast was hidden inside the box. I'm glad you got it.
-
it's here! I'll have it in my hands tomorrow when I go home... can't wait!
-
Congratulations. Btw, I'm still waiting for mine.
-
man, mine is taking forever
xoticpc should just have these laptops ready or been tested for the base specs. to be shipped when we place the order -
Maybe he was going to keep it and changed his mind, considering that he signed for it instead of redirecting the delivery man.
-
It's okay, I once had a $5000 package delivered to some random business 10kms away from me. It was addressed to me and everything, but somehow it was delivered there. I have no clue how that happens - I'd go with an inept delivery man. They even had them sign for it and all. This was FedEx BTW.
-
Well then it wouldn't be a custom laptop now would it.
-
Yeah, I find it kind of neat having stickers all over it stating that it was assembled in April 2011. Adds to the custom bit for sure.
I've got this weird jingling sound whenever I tap a key though right now, and it just appeared a few minutes ago - It's starting to drive me nuts so I'll pop the keyboard off and take a look. Hopefully just a little crud stuck under there. -
Xotic is a reseller. They do not touch the notebooks, all additions are made at the Sager facility where the notebooks ship from. Some other resellers like Malibal build from the same Clevo barebone unit but these are not Sager branded. I'd like to know how PC Torque is getting units out to their customers the day payment clears while the rest of us are stuck waiting a week or longer for our systems to even ship.
-
well xotic will get your laptop if they have to put the upgraded screen or paint on and stuff like that.
-
I think they placed the order when I placed the initial order, before the payment cleared. Maybe they got them to hold the system until the payment cleared. Or maybe Xotic is simply backed up and they only take so many orders from a reseller at a time to make sure they aren't too swamped for the other resellers. I have no idea, all I know is that I got my notebook a good two weeks before I expected it, having heard about the Xotic wait times.
-
thanks for the reply, but i could not find any instructions about replacing the wireless in the manual book or the one i downloaded from sager.
Btw the fans turning on and off regularly is driving me crazy.
.speed fan doesnt seem to help either
-
look for the section on pci express cards.
-
cant seem to find it
-
So Phase 2 is actually processed by Sager?
-
Uhm.. the wireless card is actually under the keyboard with 2 RAM slots there too.

The internal pictures show where it is. -
With the exception of a few modifications that Xotic provides that aren't offered by Sager, 95% Gamut Matte screens for example, yes.
@deepeshb: http://www.scribd.com/doc/51215981/P15xHMx-ESM The manual is here. See disassembly instructions in chapter 2 to remove battery, keyboard then Wireless LAN in that order. -
thnx for the info and the link.Changing the wireless lan seems hard
.BTw i read somewhere to update the bios to solve the fan on /off problem.but i am afraid i will brick the laptop while flashing bios.
-
I have pretty much decided on an 8130 (woohoo!)...
And I have some questions about the xoticpc Redline Boost overclock option.
I have no experience with overclocking and am thus interested in this service.
My main question is whether there is a "toggle" for the redline boost, or if it is a pain to turn on and off (if thats even possible).
I am interested in overclocking while gaming and toggling off the rest of the time.
It looks like the performance boost is enough to justify me exploring this further. -
Electric Shock Notebook Evangelist
I can't answer this but to my knowledge, there isn't yet a way to overclock the Sandy Bridge processor (but people are working on it). I know there was one other member that did the XoticPC redline and enjoyed it thoroughly. I would not call it value for money personally however because the only real overclocking route is for the GPU on this system and Nvidia Inspector does this all painlessly and ridiculously simple. You can also create a toggle as well with Nvidia Inspector. -
Thanks for the reply. That pretty much answers my question.
I think I will go the Inspector route. Sounds simple enough.
I suppose now I have to decide on a vendor/reseller...
Is there a vendor that rates significantly high than the others? -
Many of the resellers that actively participate on NBR are quite highly rated. It is better to speak to each one of them to find out which is the best fit for you, in terms of service, price, etc. As you may already know, your personal experience can be very different than someone else's, or what you may perceive on the forums.
Personally, I went with LPC-Digital, and I can safely say that Larry's (babyhemi) service was top-notch. -
With the nvidiaInspector route to overclocking, it's easy to only change the clocks on the highest power level, so that the clocks are still low and heat/battery life still acceptable under normal light usage. Your OC is only in effect under load.
As for the processor, I can't imagine needing to OC it, or even wanting to, because that would get pretty hot without a cooling station. I don't know if it's possible, but it would be neat if we could. -
Thanks again for the replies. The nvidiaInspector route definitely seems the way to go.
Last questions:
I am getting the IC Diamond Thermal Compound - I live in a very hot climate, so I need every cooling tool possible. My question is whether this is a Sager upgrade, or a reseller upgrade that will cause longer wait times...?
Also - I am considering the Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid HDD for $75. Anyone know if there will be a discernable performance increase with this HDD? Is this a Sager upgrade, or reseller?
Thanks again folks. I am very, very excited about this machine. I feel lucky to have found it - I was previously looking at HP's.
I am upgrading from a dual core 1.3 gb HP with integrated intel gpu....lol. So I am imagining this unit will blow my socks off. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Sager applies the IC Diamond to CPU + GPU as they build your Sager NP8130. It will not cause any delay.
Sager also installs the HDD. When compared to a regular magnetic HDD the Hybrid HDD will boot up faster, shut down faster and open your applications faster. Its speed will be in between a magnetic HDD and a full Solid State Drive. -
Will the HDD have an effect on programs once they are running? Also, the 32mb cache seems intriguing...
Pardon my ignorance... thanks again. -
Electric Shock Notebook Evangelist
I would not bother with the hybrid drive and get a real SATA 3 (6gb/s) SSD like the OCZ Vertex 3 or the Crucial C300/C400/M4 SSDs as your primary OS/games/programs drive. Then get an optical bay caddy for a storage mechanical harddrive. -
Yeah. Thats not really an option for me. I'll probably just stick with the standard 500gb 7200
-
I got my np8130 yesterday!! The display is great with vivid colors, its a must have if you need better screen quality and it fits your budget. The keyboard feels different than what I am use to, but its not a deal breaker. This is my first SSD, it boots quicker and programs seem to load faster. I just wish I had more in my budget for a larger one. Overall the system is great.
I'm going test out Rift later tonight, seeing that there is a free trial this weekend.
I have not found anything wrong with screen, is there a program to detect dead pixels or is it just eye balling it? -
Grats on getting your rig! Enjoy! No need to go looking for dead pixels, there are programs for it, but if its something really bad....you will notice right away. Just have fun with your new toy!
-
Judging by your signature, my sager is going to come on the last day of my spring break.
-
My system was send to XoticPC for the screen replacement, so that added a few days to the order. So, unless you are getting a custom skin/screen then it might take less time than my.
-
is there anyway I can get drivers for xp? or at least have it read my usb?
-
I just got the stock laptop.
Does anyone know how long it would take for mine? -
ummmm... how do I turn the wireless on?
-
I beleive that Mr. Mysterious and theGDbatman got thiers shipped around 10 days after ordering, both got stock models if I recall right.
-
Fn-F11?
As for dead/stuck pixels, I use Do I Have A Dead Pixel? Dead Pixel Test. Simple test, and might not be all that thorough, but if it's not noticeable with that then it doesn't worry me if it exists or not. I've used it several times to successfully detect bad pixels. -
Don't look for dead pixels, it will just dissapoint you.
-
I'm with batman on this one. If you don't notice any don't go looking for them!
