Well my reseller is getting me one from Sager but it is taking a long time. I was going to use a generic one I owned from ebay that was only $15 but the 8130 has a very angular edge. I hope the Sager one matches the side and it doesn't just have me transfer the optical drive plate or something.

2nd HDD Caddy for Clevo W860 / W860CU, also works with SSD [OBHD-SATA12-SATA-BU] - $44.75 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks
I'm currently using this on the NP8150; houses my second HDD very well. -
My 8130 will be shipping soon! I'm so psyched.
Anyway, I have been lurking on this forum for a while and have noticed a lot of good info on here.
I was wondering about tweaks that people are making.
What are some right out of the box tweaks people suggest?
I noticed some posts mentioning updating drivers.
Won't it come from Sager with all the latest drivers (I am getting Win7 installed)? Are people just using the disc to update? Is a comprehensive driver update really recommended? I sometimes here about new drivers actually performing worse.
Any other tweaks people would recommend? -

All the other drivers are not officially from Sager/Clevo and you can try them out if you want.
The only thing you really should do if you want to do it is to get beta graphics drivers from laptopvideo2go.com and maybe consider overclocking the 460M with Nvidia Inspector.
There's really nothing to tweak. There are no bios options. Everything is straight forward. The only things to do are set the THX audio application to settings you like and use Nvidia control panel to set your desktop color the way you like and adjust 3D settings. -
To clarify, you are saying I should use the disk to update the drivers?
Also, is the beta graphics driver better?
Finally, this is my first experience with a discrete gpu... What 3d settings would I make and why?
Thanks -
And I don't have a Q drive. -
Hey guys.
I just got my Sager from UPS, and am trying to set it up.
I didn't order any software or Windows 7.
For some reason, I am unable to install any of the drivers on the included Device Drivers & Utilities + User's Manual disk, which thus prevents me from installing Windows.
Any idea about why this could be? -
-
Windows 7 setup requires me to give it the drivers, or else it can't proceed.

I'm currently on a business trip with my 8130 that I recently got back from being serviced, running it's new bios from Sager.
Its 64F here right now and my GPU fan keeps spinning up and down, even getting pretty loud and high at times, I only have this forum open and no other apps running atm.
The GPU is only at 38C, I have to say that unfortunately instead of the feeling of satisfaction I should be getting with this laptop as I did with it's original older bios it shipped with I am continually finding myself with a feeling of resentment towards purchasing it every time I get it out, every time the fan whirs up I just sigh and find myself instantly irritated.
I'm not trying to bash this machine, I was immensely happy with it on it's original bios.
I'd also like to comment on some other issues I've experienced since getting this machine back, the issues are infrequent but are nonetheless frustrating...
Sometimes resuming the laptop from sleep and hibernation the keyboard is only partially functional, function keys work but no other keys do, it requires a reboot to fix, other times the trackpad is only partially functional and only left click will work, reboot solves that too.
I didn't experience any of those issues on the original bios, the computer ran cool and the fans only seemed to come on when actually needed, this is my first Sager/Clevo purchasing experience and it's off to a bad start to say the least.
I really hope something happens to bring back the positive feelings I initially had for this laptop. -

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now."
I can browse to the contents of the Device Drivers CD when setup is asking for the driver, but no drivers are found. -
-
Currently it has 1.01.08LS1. -

Is it possible to reflash back? I hate the new fan profile as well! There are so many complaints about this, somebody should get back to Sager/Clevo about this issue!
-
Electric Shock Notebook Evangelist
For those of you who do not have the loud fan issue, can you press F2 and goto your bios and tell us which video and system bios you have?
My VBIOS is 70.06.0B.00.01
My BIOS Revision is 1.01.08LS1
Everytime the fan spins up I facepalm a little...It's that irritating. It's to the point where I can't have this laptop open without it playing music to drown out the noise. -
I wish we could get a copy of that bios...
If anyone who's still on Sager's 1.01.06 dated 3/3/2011 wants to dump it that could work too, AFU dos command line and AFU windows command line/gui both have a backup to file option.
Oh I also have a new bug to report that just occurred, I just came out of hibernation and my screen went to full brightness and will not dim, hitting the dim hotkey shows the on screen indicator but the bar doesn't move and it stays the same full brightness... another one for the reboot. -
I 100% sympathize with you on the fans, this bios update is killing me. -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/416916-clevo-bios-thread.html
But I'm not sure if the provided BIOS 1.01.06 date is the same as your 3/3/2011 1.01.06.
And the brightness bug is quite prevalent with Nvidia actually; I had this problem when I had my GTX 280m on a Sager NP8690. It gets fix after a change of drivers. Which is weird I think, most likely nothing to do with Clevo themselves. -
The more obvious difference between the Clevo and Sager bios is the bootup logo packed with it, you get a "Style Note" logo on the Clevo bios.
A reboot set my brightness back to where it was previously and adjustment came back. -
Hmmm...did you contact your reseller AND Sager regarding the availability of the BIOS you mentioned?

The reason I asked about the video bios is that I am wondering if the fan is controlled by the GPU bios or the mainboard bios.
Normally, the fan profile is in the video bios but the fact that most utilities have no ability to detect the fan speed or control it leads me to believe the fan controller may not be on the videocard but built into the system.
One way we could test is is for somebody to dump and examine the Nvidia bios on our 460Ms. The problem I have is that Nbitor won't work properly on Win7 64-bit because the creator cannot afford to pay the expensive liscense fees that Microsoft charges for apps to have direct access to drivers and hardware.
I think this may work in Win7 or Vista 32-bit however, if you use F8 key on bootup and choose to disable driver signing for the current session. You can also try to disable it via command line. Then Nbitor can run and we can dump the Nvidia bios and see if the fan profile is included or not and we can create our own fan profile (preferably one that ramps up slowly instead of instantly) at the temps we desire and reflash with nvFlash.
Disable Driver Signing Command...
bcdedit.exe -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
Does anybody have Vista or 7 32-bit and want to try Nbitor for us? -
When I'm back from my business trip I may give them a call and ask that way to see if it goes anywhere, if not then I guess it's waiting for a better update or waiting for someone to dump their older bios. -
So I know I just order my np8130 a few days ago but know I'm starting to consider maybe going for the np8150-s1 after reading that the difference between the 2630 and the 2720 processor isn't worth the $160 I'm paying for. Instead of upgraded to the 2720 with the np8130 I am considering going with the np8150-s1 with the gpu upgrade but keeping the 2630 for about 250 bucks more. I am also interested in this because I'm hoping the np8150 won't take so long to build. I will be using this notebooks for gaming but also for 3d modeling, rendering, and graphic design. So what option would be better for me?

Hey guys, If I switch my laptop to sleep mode then how to awake it? LOL! I've tried to press everything but couldn't awake it and I have to press the power button to restart it. Will it harm my laptop if I do not switch off it properly? Please teach me how to awake it from sleep mode. Thanks.
-
Damn. My 8130 is getting delivered today and you guys are making me nervous about the BIOS.

Thanks, 2MNY. Everything works now.

Thanks for the quick reply on info about the caddy!
Btw, I was wondering if anyone has any problems with usb 3.0 supplying enough power to his/her external hard drive...
I have the Acomdata usb 3.0 2.5", running a regular scorpio blue from WD. The drive turns off and on repeatedly when plugged to either of the two usb 3.0. It works on on USB 2.0, however.
EDIT: Nevermind, I just found out that the drivers installed had USB 3.0 power management enabled by default. -
You can also change the options
1. Click the battery icon on the bottom right
2. More Power Options
3. On the far left you'll see "Choose what the Power Buttons do" or "Choose what closing the lid does" -
Fn + F4 is dedicated sleep button combination.

Thanks guys. I have 1 more question, how to change the front size? the current front size is very small.
-
Type "DPI" in start menu search. That will bring up Control Panel items for changing font and interface size.

Anyone know where the Audio Equalizer is? I hear Realtek has reintroduced it, but I cannot find it in the RT audio manager. I just updated to the R 2.59 driver...
Thanks -

Hey there fellow NP8130 and to-be 8130 owners : )
I ordered mine directly from Sager and it is supposed to arrive from UPS ground on Tuesday! I know ordering directly from the manufacturer might not be the best thing to do, but I didn't know that at the time haha.
But one quick question: I ordered the 500GB 7200rpm HDD. Does anyone know what brand this is? I've read a ton of pages from this thread and I haven't seen it anywhere. Thanks! -
-
guys, big problem here. my 8130 numpad isn't functioning!!! help me please.
-
Try pressing Fn+Del, and see if it works now. -
Any recommendations for a laptop cooler?
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
NZXT Crylo S or Cooler Master SF-19.
I'd pick the latter, personally. In fact, I'll be buying it during the middle of the month.

I just got my sager 8130 from Xotic PC on Friday 4/29/2011
. I was shutting down my sager 8130 on Saturday and I notice bright big dots on the bottom left on my screen
. the dots where bigger than one pixel and disappeared over time. On Sunday a new bright dot appeared on my top left of my screen. The new bright dot lasted for few minutes but got smaller over time
. So my question is are they stuck pixels, can they comeback and can you fix them?
-
What do you guys think? should I ask for repair after two days
or just send it back since I'm still in the 30 day return window?
-
guys, how to awake your laptop when you put it to sleep mode? I've tried to press every button but still cant awake it. Please help.
-
I got my 8130 on Friday -
Awesome job by Xotic btw - Ordered 4/22, delvered 4/29
I got to say - I am very, very happy.
There are some things to nit pick over, but nothing more than that.
I do have one question.
The sound quality I experience through the headphone jack when using headphones is basically crap.
I have not tried it with speakers, but the headphones I use are med quality and have a built in bass boost that is usually almost too much. But with the laptop, I get no bass, and a very tinny, canned sound.
I assume this is a software or driver issue.
I have updated the realtek audio driver an tried a lot of settings in both the realtek and thx and cant seem to improve it...
Anyone have any suggestions?
Update:
I have since played audio through speakers, and it sounds great. Seems like this is specifically an issue with Headphones.
