My laptop is supposed to come tomorrow and while we are on the topic i was wondering if you guys could post that software you use to make the sound better. If it gets confusing, a little explantion would be much appreciated aswell. Thanks.

The THX software comes preinstalled on the laptop. It's very straightforward and runs at startup after you activate it.

Noticed the talk about audio and figured this might be semi-pertinent, for those who want to turn off the digital output (turn off the red light) do this:

I've seen it pop up a few times on here people asking how to turn it off with someone usually telling them they can't, well you can.

Also this way through the Realtek HD Audio Manager:

Forgot about that one since I don't use it often.

^ yeah just mute the device or even disable it completely in the playback tab. I use bluetooth headphones and disabled both the digital (spdif) and the internal speakers on the system.

Just got my 8130 and the GPU is being troublesome. Every time I try to install the driver, I get the error " the graphics driver could not find compatible hardware."

I've tried the sager driver, the nvidia driver, and an old ASUS driver. Any other ideas?

Ok, so how many of you have accidentally put their laptop to sleep trying to hit the mute button? I mean seriously, that key arrangement is just dumb. I see some key remapping in the near future.

EDIT: For those of you who don't yet have your machine, the volume controls are on the function keys, and the sleep button is in between mute and volume down.

Got a question for you since you've got the GTX 560M equipped Sager machine, what bios and EC rev do you have? It's listed in the bios setup menu, I figure the bios is something newer than 1.01.08LS1 since the last Clevo bios to support it was 1.01.11

If you could let me know that'd satisfy my curiosity on whats actually the latest Sager branded bios.

Next I need to find someone who wants to either dump their GTX 560M vbios to poke at or tell me what volts they read for each power state in Nvidia Inspector to see if it is in-fact an elevated voltage over the 460M.

    Ah curiosity. :)

Hi. I'm new to the forum, but the advice here has been very valuable in helping me make the decision to buy a Sager laptop.

I got my NP8130 on Monday (2720QM, 560M, 80GB SSD & 500GB HDD) and I've been enjoying it. It's definately the fastest computer I've owned. However I'm having two problems which I wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing:

    1) The onboard Bluetooth seems to be a bit flaky. If I leave my Bluetooth mouse alone for a bit it seems to drop the connection and won't reconnect until I toggle the Bluetooth radio (Fn + F12). I thought it might be a driver problem, so updated the driver to version 1005.18.413.2011 from Realtek's web site. I also replaced the batteries in the mouse. This hasn't solved the problem.

    2) I will occasionally have a problem when typing where the text entry carat will 'jump' to another point in the document. At first I thought this might be because I was inadvertantly hitting the trackpad, but I don't believe that this is the cause. Has anyone else seen this?

    Thanks!

Have I been complaining too much? :)

I just used SharpKeys to remap the + and - keys on the number pad to volume up and down, and remapped the asterisk to mute. They're redundant keys, all up in the corner right next to each other, and both + and - support press/hold. It's a perfect solution for me at least. I'm happy as a clam!

The Creative THX does not make the laptop sound better.

You are better off uninstalling the THX and adjust equalizer in Realtek HD Audio Manager.

    1) Haven't tested the BT but planned to.

    2) Turn off the touchpad. Your hand touched the touchpad while typing so the cursor jumped to somewhere else.

That is a highly subjective opinion and do not agree with you whatsoever. My sound with THX on and off is night and day. With THX my sound is rich, full bodied, and it sounds like I have bigger speakers than I have. With THX off (just hit the button in the top right hand corner of the application), my laptop sounds tiny and like a toy speaker.

I think you do know that Creative THX software messes up your audio driver and filter most mid-bass to bass frequencies out and add those back with their own "equalization"?

That's why most people complained about lack of bass when THX is installed.

A more proper way to compare is uninstall both THX and audio driver, then install audio driver ONLY. Simply turn THX on or off will not give you Realtek equalizer back.

But of course whatever makes you happy.

Anybody using an SSD and HDD combo should be using symbolic links in Windows 7 so that applications think files are located on the C:\ when they are actually on another drive. iTunes will continue to function perfectly normally while your media is actually on the HDD. Do the same for all your browser caches, temp folders, system folders, and steam games that you don't need speed for, etc.

I joined this forum just to ask this one question.

What sound card is in the 8130? I'm in phase 2 with Xotic and I need to get some ASIO drivers. I'm just gathering every piece of software before I recieve it.

Thanks to all for the wealth of info I've already received from this forum!

Go to the Sager site ( http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=support. All the software you need is there, including the audio drivers. A couple of hardware components require you to pick the right one (WiFi, GFX board), but otherwise very easy.

You could also just move the files to your other drive or install to the other drive to begin with. No need to make symbolic links all over the place. Also what kind of benefits do you see moving things like system folders off of a SSD?

No, I'd rather install iTunes on my SSD and have the library on my HDD. I mean, that's the point of the SSD, to have programs pop up instantly.

You save space on a capacity challenged SSD (most people are in the 64GB - 256GB range only).

You also save on potential writes. Every reduced write means a longer life for your SSD.

Thanks for reminding me of this. I don't know if it's been covered elsewhere in this thread, but for anyone else (I know there was at least one) who thought the color temp was a bit cool by default, there are a couple of folks in the thread below who have the needed equipment and have created various color profiles for the AUO11ED.

Recognizing color perception is of course very subjective, I think I played with most/all of them, and for me got the best results from the one that labeled as "native whitepoint 2.2 gamma". I also think the guys in the thread were experimenting a bit as they went along...

Interestingly, based on eyeballing it at Gamma calibration - Lagom LCD test, my gamma wasn't spot-on with any of these, but I'm convinced that all around color reproduction is much better for me now. When I tried to dial in the gamma by hand I ended up with brown looking blacks, so I decided to just pick the profile I liked the most and stop there.

As I understand it, these profiles aren't really 100% valid unless created for your actual physical panel, so YMMV (as mine did) regarding how you feel about them. They will probably all look yellow at first (some more than others) if your panel tended to blue as much as mine did. 2 hours later after I stopped expecting the old color temp I found things looking much better.

Here are links to all the posts with AUO11ED profiles I noticed in that thread thread..

There is no "sound card" in 8130.

The HD Audio chip used is Realtek ALC892

    Realtek

According to the website, there's no ASIO support.

What do you need ASIO for?

I use ASIO for music production equipment to digitize analog inputs into digital signals at extremely low latencies...things like amp modelling or instrument emulation etc. need ASIO unless it's a digital instrument that works over MIDI.

Thanks for bringing up the ASIO issue, I will try some of my software on my laptop an report the results. There are some 3rd party ASIO drivers and applications out there that give decent results.

That's what I was looking for!

Let me know how that goes! I've read on other forums that there are DPC latency issues wth the firewire chip. I mostly use VSTi's but I do record other instruments on occasion and I'm wondering what the latency is like. When I record audio I monitor it directly with outboard equipment so the signal is dry but I'm mainly wondering about how low the latency can be with the ASIO4ALL driver.

Zyisrad, did you by any chance upgrade your shipping? XoticPC quoted me about 4-5 business days for the laptop to get from Sager to them, so I was just wondering if maybe I should be expecting my laptop a day or two earlier than expected?

I can't turn the wireless radio off with the Fn+F11 key. I've got the Intel 6230 card, and my drivers are up to date. The bluetooth controls work just fine. The wireless card itself seems to work just fine, but I can't toggle the radio on and off. Anyone else have this problem?

Nice you have a good reason to utilize ASIO.

Quite a lot of people don't know what ASIO is and blindly want it on every hardware.

Hey I was wondering, when you guys first got your laptop, what drivers did you download? Also if anyone can recommend me a temp monitoring app that would be great.

You don't need to download any drivers aside from the latest videocard driver although it may already be installed if you have a recent order.

Core Temp and Real Temp are good for the CPU. I use a sidebar app, I think it's called GPU monitor or something for the GPU.

You should be fine with the drivers that are shipping, though the newer Nvidia drivers can't hurt. Most use sidebar gadgets for temps, or a dedicated program like CPUZ or hwinfo.
