why do you need a docking station for it. I figure this one has almost all the required ports and connectors already.
The only thing I can imagine putting under is a cooling pad which doesn't look quite necessary either since Sager has done such a good job cooling their powerhorses. My current NP8662 with gtx260m is comfortably running below 70C when playing games while my colleague's ASUS G71GX with the same spec shoots up to 100+C when running furmark.
-
I googled it a bit only to find that ASUS G53 has 128bit 560m, without much detail about the performance loss (if any, most likely yes) or other facts. But since I'm planning to use it for some OpenCL programming, memory bandwidth becomes important here.
192bits is not the best out there, even my old 260m is 256bits, but good enough I guess. -

The 560M is much better than the 260M though.

Hello,
I have a question for you guys. I'm planning on buying a Sager NP8130, standard configuration, no OS.
If I wanted shipped to Hollywood Florida, what dealer should I choose?
I need it shipped until the 12 of July and I hope to keep the price as low as possible, around 1200 dollars all included.
Thank you! -

If I'm not mistaken, all of the good resellers are in Nevada...so it wouldn't make a difference. Read the FAQ and contact a few of them. It's going to be hard to ship a custom machine that quickly though...you're already a bit late.
edit: Whoops, forgot that mythlogic is in michigan, sorry ._.

Today, after around 2 month of me being happy, while palying css the laptop suddenly shutdown, have no clue why ...pretty sure it wasnt overheating..
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
It just automatically shut down? No BSOD or anything?
Mr. Mysterious -
And on what basis are you "pretty sure" it wasn't overheating?
-
Sorry. I need it delivered ( in my hands) by the 12th. My English needs some upgrading.
)
Thank you for your answers. I can order today. -

Anyone else having their GPU downclocking mid-games? I have mine overclocked, but keeps downclocking to stock. Doesn't always do it, but sometimes. Not overheating, running 67c on crysis 2 hardcore settings.
Driver issue? I've heard this happen with Nvidia before anyway... -

I wanted to test my battery life so I installed BatteryBar and here are my results with normal usage (web browsing and chatting):
Full Brightness: 15min to drain 10% = 2hrs and 30 minutes
Medium Brightness: 17min to drain 10% = 2hrs and 50 minutes
Low Brightness*: 18min to drain 10% = 3hrs
*Note: One bar above the lowest setting because the lowest setting is very dim and I doubt I could ever browse comfortably in that condition.
So in conclusion, it looks like I can get anywhere between 2.5 - 3hrs of battery life with normal usage depending on the settings, which seems to be the average. -
Hello guys
I'm new here but i've been reading the thread, i may have missed a few pages since there's lot of them.
I'm quite interested in buying the sager np8130, but i'm afraid of the screen size, it might be too small for a 1080p resolution, what do you guys think? it's hard to read or navigate web?
I will be using the laptop to play (of course) and to study, so the screen size is one of my concerns.
I really appreciate if someone takes some pictures of the screen, thank you! -
Please no Apple jokes (you'll see why). It's sort of like having the best of both worlds.Attached Files:

So, I just repasted my NP8130 with IC Diamond and was surprised with how little of a difference I received in temps. My GPU was just as hot under load as it was before (although, it did take it longer to get there)
Sager NP8130. 1 week old.
Stock Compound Tests:
Ambient: 78 degrees F
Idle: GPU – 42 degrees C
CPU Core 1 – 44/46 degrees C
CPU Core 2 – 38/46 degrees C
CPU Core 4 – 45/48 degrees C
Under load:
GPU: (Furmark, 15 mins) – Max 93 degrees C
CPU: (Prime95, 15mins)
Core 1 – Max 80 degrees C
Core 2 – Max 79 degrees C
Core 3 – Max 81 degrees C
Core 4 – Max 81 degrees C
After Application of IC Diamond:
Ambient: 77 degrees F
Idle: GPU – 38 degrees C
CPU Core 1 – 40/44 degrees C
CPU Core 2 – 35/44 degrees C
CPU Core 3 – 31/43 degrees C
CPU Core 4 – 42/45 degrees C

Hmmmm, not seeing that much of a difference with the application of the paste. Maybe there's an air bubble?
Mr. Mysterious -
I hope not! I mean, I have enough paste to go through and do it again, but I really don't want to.
-
-
-
Anybody have any results using different pastes?
If not, and you plan on trying a different paste and could record/post your results that would be great -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
An air bubble would mean that there is something physically separating the paste from the component and is a result of an incorrect application of the material. It could be why Blufer is seeing not-that-much-lower temps.
Mr. Mysterious -
I applied it as it says on the IC Diamond website. Probably used 6mm beads instead of 5, but same method.
I mean, no temps went up and a few went down slightly...I guess I was just expecting a little more. Overhyped a bit, maybe? -
All thermal paste is overhyped. You get up to 2C degrees of change (not including Indigo Xtreme) with any brand name thermal paste out there. Take a look -

EDIT: And, in other news: overclocking my graphics card to 850/1700 (could easily have gone higher) brought up my 3DMark11 score by 170 points -

Wow, that is better than what I was doing. I was manually zooming in with my browser settings

I FINNALY GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!! THIS BAD BOY IS CRAZY!!! THE ONLY GAME I TESTED OUT WAS JUST CAUSE 2 BUT I WAS ABLE TO MAX IT OUT AT A STABLE 35 FPS AT NATIVE RES!! NOT ONCE DID I HIT LAG!! I WILL DO A VID OF IT SHORTLY.
Thank you guys for your help! -
However, I did seem to fix my problem. I had to add the Crysis2 exe to nvidia and set it to prefer performance instead of adaptive. That seems to have solved it. Running stable at 901/1802/1480 no problem. -
Finished Crysis. Fun game, plays great on high settings at 1080p, no AA.
...and of course crysis 2 just got pulled from steam.
-
ok so, I don't think this question is relevant enough to post it under new topic...
Sooooo I'm assuming I can upgrade the CPU in NP8130 as long as the socket is the same right????
thanks -
-
Hmm I'll keep that in mind that IVY Bridge won' be supported.
Yea I'm thinking of upgrading my i7-2630QM to the i7-2720QM.... cuz the ram I got is @ 1600MHz and didn't realize until later on that 2630QM doesn't support 1600Mhz.... :X Or just wait until the 2820QM's price goes down. -
Edit: Ignore

HI there,
I bought mine a week ago and now I notice that in the screen there is a defect(idk) the thing is that on a black background if I move the window here and there there is a lag and i can see the window on the screen at the previous location in red..Does anyone has the solution to it or has anyone had the same the problem? -
I don't have that problem, and I would definitely contact your reseller about it. You may need to have the LCD replaced.

Hello all,
I currently own a Gateway 6860 that I bought in June of 2008. The video card on this beautiful baby finally hit the bucket so I am in the market for a new lappy and this Sager seems to have fallen into my crosshairs. I have a few questions if you don't mind!
1) What is the difference between this 8130 and the 8150? Different video card options? Can the 8130's video card be upgraded later to a Geforce 580m if I get it with the 560m? (There's no reason I'd upgrade it for that little gain, but I'm just thinking if another video card dies in my laptop it'd be nice to be able to replace it.)
2) Are there any quality concerns or quirks I should know about from Saber?
3) Is this laptop pretty solid for the next few years? I was really happy with my 6860fx and I'd like to be 2 for 2 with my laptop purchases. I'm concerned the 560m might not be the equivalent of what the 8800m was 3 years ago comparably.
My current gateway 6860 has a Core2Duo T5550 at 1.86ghz w/2mb L2 cache, 4gb ram at 667mhz and a geforce 8800m with 512mb ram. And a 5400rpm harddrive that heats up the pad wear I rest my hands when typing.
I'm not super picky and i'm very careful with my machines. I've had this PC for 3 years now and it's in tip top shape aside from the video card that went kaput. So I guess that's within the realm of reasonable wear and tear and use. I paid 1100 dollars for this and it has been running every game I wanted to for it since. Just lately it has been feelin' the burn of being outdated though and there were a couple games I couldn't comfortably run. So maybe the video card going out was a good sign to get something new.
Oh - this is also a 17" 9.3lb monster of a computer. I hardly move it but I do like that it is portable when I need to. I've wanted to bring it to class many times but it's just too big to do that really. The desks are small in lecture halls. I'm still not sure a 15" screen will be enough though. I am really happy with this screen and resolution (1400x900) for gaming, but I'm assuming a new screen will be just as nice as long as 15" isn't too small. I'm sure I will appreciate the new found portability compared to this.
Ok - there's a lot of info, probably too much. Sorry I'm long winded! Thank you,
Rotz -
1) 8130 comes default with matte screen and plastic exterior and also a smaller power supply. 8150 comes with glossy screen and rubberized finish and a power supply that can manage the larger GPU's like the 580m. You can update the 8130 to a 100W TDP GPU like the 580m if you buy the larger power supply.
2) Quality seems to be very good. Very few complaints as far as build issues. Mainly design decisions which really aren't any kind of deal breaker.
3) If you want longevity, I would go with the 8150 with 485m or 580m or 6970m (if you can find a reseller with it any more, mythlogic may still have it). Plus you get the larger power supply so can update to another 100W TDP GPU down the road if one exists (and very likely will). Or if you don't want the rubberized finish then get the 8130 and 560m, then buy an upgraded PSU and install a GPU later when you feel you need it.
I would recommend getting one of the upgraded screens though (95% glossy or matte) because the stock one has bad viewing angles if that bothers you (it does me greatly). -
Thanks WingNut! Very helpful info.
I don't know how the viewing angle will affect me. I don't think my screen now is particularly amazing by any stretch. It's pretty reflective and the viewing angle isn't what I'd call great but I just move it and it suits my fancy. I'm not picky. I think I might like to try out the matte screen tho for a change. This one is glossy and reflects a lot. Looks pretty though!
I don't know if I can afford to get the 485 or 580. But I've also haven't used a gpu that wasn't part of the higher of a series lately so that might annoy me if I don't spend the extra 200 some odd dollars. I had the 6800 then the 8800 and now the 560/485/580. I'm sure the 560 will still be leaps and bounds better than my 8800 but I did like how capable the 8800 was even as new cards were coming out. Something about buying the best of the generation that is really satisfying years later.
I'm glad the GPU can be upgraded! I came from building PCs and sorely miss that option. Especially now since this GPU died and I have a 17" internet browser :/ -
The 560 is definitely a good graphics card. It's probably one of the top 5 out there right now for a laptop.
One thing that HTWingNut didn't mention is that although you CAN upgrade your graphics card in the future, it is very cost prohibitive. A 485m right now runs around $800 and the new PSU will cost you another $100. -
I've had my 8130 for a few days now and have started to get a feel for it, but I'm already noticing a few issues I could use some help figuring out. The first is that when I resume the laptop from sleep or hibernate, it usually takes at least 30 seconds for the wireless to connect again. My old Vaio sr430 would connect pretty much instantaneously. I'm wondering if there is a power setting that is messing with it? I'll try updating the drivers and see if that helps.
Also, last night I was browsing the internet, watching a youtube video, and noticed that my browser was lagging pretty bad. I'm using chrome on a dsl connection, which occassionally gives me issues, but generally I can flip between browser tabs with no issues when playing videos. I'm thinking it has something to do with flash and/or some video playback settings that are hogging up resources. Even so, a quad core i7 with 8gb ram should be able to handle it, shouldn't it? The lag seemed to clear up as soon as I closed the youtube tabs..
Any ideas? -
That problem is with Chrome. Each browser tab is it's own process, so it can eat up RAM fast.
