Well, actually 485m is about $600 now, and if you go with 560m now, and in a year, I'm sure there will be a plethora of 485m or 580m GPU's to snag for less than $400 when the next iteration of GPU comes along.

I know that Chrome has that behavior, but I checked each process to see how much they were eating up. I only had facebook, 2 tabs of youtube and hotmail opened up, none of them exceeding 60mb or so. With 8gb, there should be no way in hell I am filling that up just by web browsing. I even closed the processes through task manager and reopened the tabs in Chrome but still laggy.

Could it possibly be a CPU throttling issue?

    Not temperature-based though....

Not sure if it's a throttling issue, will keep my eyes open for that. Just checked my drivers, and they're all up to date. I JUST got this thing a few days ago, so all the drivers should be the latest that came out, unless they were updated in the last week or so.

As far as resource hogging, it shouldn't matter if each tab of chrome is taking up to 100mb of ram if I've got 8gb, right? I don't think I've been using more than 4gb at all unless I'm playing games or something. I just noticed some laggy scrolling on facebook with only 3 tabs open. It's kinda bugging me :/

No, it's definitely not a RAM issue. Have you installed CPU-ID? Open it up and share the results please.

Even on "power-saver" mode on battery power, you should not be experiencing any lagging.

How do I wake up my computer once it "sleeps" or "hibernate?" I'm not able to wake it up by pressing any buttons. I dont see an option to change it the Power Options menu. I'd like to wake up my computer by pressing the space bar.

Once in a while when I try to turn on my computer, I would press the power button but it wont turn on. So I would then have to push it very hard. Anyone else have/had this issue?

    Any help would be appreciated!

The touchpad had been frustrating me so I bought a wireless mouse and it's SOOOOOOO much better now.

A lot of us have had that problem. You may just have to hit the power button (or, if you have an external mouse plugged in, hitting one of the mouse buttons will turn it on)

Anyone with the Realtek RTL8188CE WiFi card notice that it's download speed maxes at exactly 11.3Mbps on N networks? on G networks it caps at around 8Mbps, just noticed this today on a 40Mbps connection that works just fine on the other computers we have here with varying WiFi cards, updated drivers same result.

I have had this problem before.

This problem is caused by the USB 3.0 ports. When your laptop encounters this problem, try to unplug the USB devices from the USB 3.0ports and then you have to hit the power button gently to awake it.

I found this site by looking for reviews of the notebook and it seems like this is a place worth visiting :p

Has anyone encountered problems with the microphone volume being very weak when using an external headset? I just started using Skype again and I found myself repeating everything I was saying because the microphone output was extremely low.

I have tried with microphone boost on 10/20/30 and while it does increase the microphone volume, there is an extremely audible hiss that comes with it. I did some reading online and some people were saying that Windows 7 64 bit may be the problem but a friend of mine has the same headset and same OS and his microphone is crystal clear on Skype. I've tried reinstalling drivers and different operating systems, none of which helped. I tested my mic on another computer and it sounded great, so I'm assuming it has something to do with the Realtek sound card.

If anyone has any insight at all about what I could do to fix my problem, I'm all ears. I don't want to have to send it in or get a different laptop just for something like this.

Is it really that slow? I got the 2720QM and it's very fast. Benchmarking shows it's probably twice as as fast as my desktop which is a quad 3.6GHz.

But I do run a lot of intensive multithreaded processes. Then again, on single thread, the 2720QM will turbo to 3.0GHz so it's not a slouch either.

Not a consensus, but everyone uses CPUID hardware monitor. I did not know about it originally and I kept trying different ones. It was the best by far.

After a week of having my laptop, I've just discovered the weakness that is the headphone jack. When I plug in my headphones, the volume is quite low. Can anyone advise me of what to do in order to make it louder, if possible?

Johnnyman: Where exactly did you purchase the 6970m from? Did it come with the heatsink? I was thinking about doing the upgrade as well. I found the PS, but I was having trouble with the proper card. I saw one on Ebay that looks correct, but no mention of a heatsink.

Go into the THX audio software and change the type of speaker from headphones to speakers. It'll improve immensely. (Why the headphone setting is so bad, I don' t know)

Note that you can only do this when something is plugged into the jack.

    Awesome, my 8130 arrives tomorrow.

    XoticPC rocks.

Can't wait to tinker with this thing and get it all set up. It's going to be a beast.

I'll post some Vantage results and whatnot if anyone is interested. While the 560m isn't a huge increase, when you're looking at 30ish FPS at ultra settings, any little bump in horsepower helps.

Johnny: After you install the new card, could you provide a quick update on the overall difficulty of the procedure? I saw Malibal's post of general ease, but I wouldn't mind a second opinion.

I could probably find/pay someone locally to install it if it turns out overly difficult...

    Thanks and good luck!

Lack of hardware accelerated AES turns me off ;'( (For truecrypt)
    Also it isn't that quick.

So i did what any respectable man would do, I bought an engineering sample i7 2720, for 190$, which actually has more cache the retail version (8 vs 6)

The 2720 upgrade at xotic was 160$, this is a better deal.
Comes thursday, the VID on the ES I saw on screenshots is lower than my 2630qm, so I get back battery life too... well hopefully.

Will report back how the ES i7 2720 works. Anyone figure a way to keep the turbo on btw?

The only way to turn it "off" is to disable processor C-states in the BIOS (if that's an option). Otherwise, turbo boost is a dynamic feature. The speed the CPU goes depends on its workload. You can't just flick a switch and have the CPU at its maximum speed all the time.

So I'm typing this from my 8130. I truthfully love it. It's such a well-built tank of a laptop, and I'm pretty much an Alienware guy. The matte plastic feels solid, high quality, and durable. These are the three points I was most concerned about in getting my first Sager/Clevo system. I can safely say those concerns are put to rest, and true to what I've heard, Sager/Clevo build quality is pretty excellent.

The raw power of the machine doesn't need to be mentioned, you all know it's a beast. The 95% matte screen rivals the RGB on my m17x for sheer beauty. The keyboard is a mixed bag, the keys are a bit small but I find I'm perfectly capable of typing fluently fast on it regardless. The touchpad texture being the same as the rest of the machine is very silly, but not dealbreaking. I have a bigger issue with the spacing of the left and right mouse buttons with the fingerprint reader in the middle. It makes mouse clicks cumbersome.

Overall, this is a 9/10 machine in every way. This means a lot coming from an Alienware guy.

One question I have for you all: A lot of you mention Fn+F1 puts the fans on turbo; for me it turns the touchpad off. Any ideas? I'd really like the ability to manually turbo the fans if I feel I need to.

Hi everyone, I'm in the market for a new notebook and the np8130 is the one I'm leaning towards the most. I have a question about the screen upgrades that resellers are offering as an option, what does '95% color gamut' mean and how much better is it than the stock option? Are there pics here comparing the two? I tried searching the forums but didn't come up with anything. If anyone could offer any info, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Basically, this is an upgrade that's really worth it if you're doing a lot of graphic design work. Gamut refers to the adobe color spectrum. A 95% gamut screen will be able to accurately produce 95% of the Adobe Color Spectrum, but the stock screen will only be able to accurately produce 60% of the same spectrum. That being said, even 60% gamut is better than 90% of the displays on the market, so it's still an incredibly high quality screen.

Hey I am about to purchase this laptop but I just have a few questions and i think this is the right thread to go to.
    1. Is the network card replaceable?
    2. Is the Ic diamond thermal compound worth the $40?
    3. Are there any good cases or protectors for the computer?
    4. I know this is a little bigger than most 15" laptops on the market so when i purchase a carrying backpack should i try finding one that meants for 17" laptops?
    5. How long did it take you to receive your pc if you bought it from xoticpc?

    Thanks!

    1) Yes
    2) Most likely no (Read the FAQ!)
    3) No, but you can have one custom-made
    4) Yes.
    5) Depends on the type of order, timing, etc. Average time is 2 weeks from the time you click "Buy".
