Hey folks. I have lurked here for a couple weeks, read all the pages, pulled the trigger on a Sager 8130, and should get my obsession/machine tomorrow per UPS.

Initial question. Is the 275.50 driver the most current one out there? Is it necessary to do the modified .inf to make it work with the 560M?

You all have been very helpful by the way. Hopefully I can read all the notes I scribbled down when I start playing with the new laptop.

Yep, that's the newest *Beta* driver, which means it'll need a modded inf(most beta Nvidia drivers don't have the inf support for Clevo models). The 275.33 version should load without any modifications I believe.

Went through the majority of pages on this thread. Was quite a bit but rich with plenty of info. Was going to go with a Hp dv7qe with the 6770m before but after seeing the 8130 with the 560, I was sold. For only a couple hundred more dollars no less. Anyways, I'm looking forward to see where I can get the best deal. I know I have the military discount and the e-check discount. Is there any another discount I can stack to sweeten the deal for being an NBR member? To the resellers, pm me if need be. To everyone else, cant wait to join the fam!

You can get free shipping through Malibal, I believe that's about it for NBR discounts. Welcome to the club!

And, @elias, there aren't really any good sleeve-type cases, but if you're looking for a case of any kind, 1.) it comes with a cheap shoulder bag 2.) I recommend the Wenger/Swissgear Ibex backpack. I've had one for 2 years and it's amazing.

EDIT: Just realize you meant cover, not case. Oops.

Hi Drew, you can't PM until you have at least 5 posts. Also, I believe all resellers offer a Military discount and a Cash discount, and some (including us) also offer Free Shipping for NBR Members and other deals on certain upgrades. :)

I can also recommend the Wenger/Swissgear Ibex, it is very durable/comfortable. I've been using mine for college and I'm able to comfortably carry everything I need to, including my textbooks, laptop, and binders... it could easily hold a lot more as well.

Every aspect of the backpack is very high quality (in my opinion), I mean the handle on the top is even reinforced with steel cable. It is hands down the best backpack I've ever had, and I think it'll easily last for many years to come.

Hi all,

excuse my ignorance, but I have been busy beyond measure for the past month and prolly the next 4 weeks as well.

Where can I get the latest 560m driver for my AWESOME np8130? I downloaded the latest 275.33 64bit, but it says that its not compatible with my np8130.

So right now Im downloading a driver from Sagernotebooks, the latest one under GPU 560m 64bit

Help greatly appreciated!

The one you're currently downloading will work for sure. If you want newer versions to run (until nvidia officially adds support to the existing drivers), you'll need a modded inf. See the following thread:

Also what should i do to get the free shipping from malibal? You can pm me if you want.

just a quick question... does the NP8130 support SATA III in the main drive bay???

Also if I have a hard drive caddy, is that also SATA III?

Thanks,

Thank you =)

Also, if you know off the top of your head, I copied over the Witcher Enhanced Edition from my other computer to Program Files x86, and it will not launch (I copied it to avoid data usage from redownloading it). As far as I know its patched to 1.5 which should of removed the DRM from TAGES from it.

This is my first time using Windows 7, so Im at lost for fixing this (besides doing the brute redownload path)

The backpack has an internal padded compartment for laptops, up to 17", so you really won't need a cover or case.

Yep, the main drive bay is SATA III. The optical drive bay would be SATA II. And yep, as long as it's a SATA caddy, it should do SATA III (just think of a caddy as a really fancy SATA cable that you can dock with)

You'll have to re-download it. When you install something in Windows, it doesn't just create a folder in C:/Program Files. It also creates registry entries, Roaming data folders, driver updates (directx, physx, etc), and links. Just copying the data folder doesn't actually move all that with it, so you'll need to reinstall it for it to work correctly.

Prior to receiving my laptop last week, I would rarely watch movies on any laptop that I previously had. Now, I love watching movies on my Sager, especially high-definition movies of 720p/1080p. I dont think I can go back to watching DVD's now that I'm fully experiencing what great quality HD is... it's just that beautiful on my screen at any angle!

i love my 8130, but I noticed something, I don't know much about temp details but when I play games it seems the computer is heating up pretty good. When I touch the back side around the fan area, below that area and on top of that area gets really hot.... how can I check the temps when I'm playing games? also what temps are ok, and maximum etc., I also always put it on solid hard top desk. Maybe I should buy a notebook cooler?

Hey,

Another quick question:
Should I leave the laptop battery in while running on AC?
I "calibrated" it when i first recieved it from 100% to 5%, but only once.

I understand that the battery is not a nickel one, so "memory battery" isnt a function

This is a point of contention here on the forums it seems :D

Personally, I don't see a problem leaving it plugged in. You'll have 5-10% battery wear just due to the chemical nature of Lithium Ion anyway, but plugged in versus not shouldn't be a big deal. Most batteries are rated for x number of full discharge cycles anyway, so leaving it plugged in won't matter too much.

Let me tell you, especially in these Sagers, the cooling is great. No reason to worry about the battery. Plus if you pull the plug from your machine accidentally, or power goes out, you have battery backup. My Sager NP8170 which is about five months old now has only 1.9% battery wear and it has been stressed with gaming since I got it.

I really have to say again, I'm blown away by the overall level of build quality in this laptop.

Sturdy as a brick. Not one ounce of flex anywhere on my machine. It's also heavy in the solid, dense way that lets me know it's not a flimsy hunk of plastic. I'm an Alienware guy and very picky about build quality.

To me, in my opinion, this definitely feels like a $1,400+ laptop, even if it's entirely plastic.

Got my tracking number from Xotic as well, after waiting 4 days for Sager to ship the laptop to Xotic's HQ (I live in California).

Now I have to wait an additional 4 days for it to COME BACK to California.

And the thing is - I actually live 7 miles from Sager's factory and headquarters in Los Angeles. You can imagine my pain right now...

I had the same problem <3
I got it, ordered June 2nd, got it June 16. Maybe you too can make a sexy unboxing video when you get yours too eh?
YouTube - ‪Tactical np8130 unboxing re-upload‬‏
I posted about 100 pages back :p, o well.

About the battery thing, I just depleted mine halfway and put it in a cool spot to maintain the battery life. Accoridng to this leaving it at 100% will make it deplete about 20% each year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium-ion_battery

So, if they used a lithium iron phosphate battery, then it would last a lonng time, but then we would have 14% less energy. I'd prefer that tbh.

I read a report on lithium batteries. If you intend to leave the battery out, I might recommend discharging the battery to around a 40% charge. Many people also keep these batteries in the fridge (I do this with some extra cell batteries for trips). Supposedly, you wont lose much charge that way, but it does semi defeat the purpose of having a battery - you always have to charge it ahead of use...

The worst possible thing you can do is take it down to sub 15%. Lithium batteries hate it. 40%, again, is the ideal discharge level before re-charging.

I personally keep it plugged into the AC. I think this is an asymmetrical distribution between benefit and work. If you are careful to avoid too many full discharges, you shouldn't lose much more than 10 or 15% during a given year. To malibal's point, perfect battery maintenance (40% and fridge) would still fall 3-5% probably. I plan to buy another battery in a couple of years though...

Anyways, at a minimum, avoid full discharges.

Thanks for the responses on the driver question.

My old laptop, HPdv9500 (which caused me to by the Sager by running so hot I thought I could cook with it) had lower than 1080p resolution. Will I need to adjust my screen resolution for newer (i.e., 2 years old) games or will they be fine with 1080p?

Very excited, as today is the day I get to join the 8130 club. I ordered directly from Sager so it seems to have been quicker than some of you have reported here, but I don't think the customer service was the same as the resellers here (not a diss on Sager as it was above average).

This discussion always comes up, and bottom line is that you don't have to worry about it. The biggest degradation to a battery's charge is unfortunately doing what it is designed to do, discharge and recharge. High heat also has a factor, but we're talking high heat for long periods. Most laptops are more than adequately cooled, or as long as it's not sitting on top of the GPU or CPU, it will be fine.

If you have a spare battery, it's a good idea to drop it to 40-50% put in a baggie and put in fridge, or just in a cool spot in your basement (if you have one), but cold can harm a battery too. Refrigerators can get below 37F which can also be detrimental to a battery. In any case the battery will still lose charge regardless. But you really won't gain much of anything by putting your primary battery in storage other than making more work for yourself by removing and reinstalling any time you want to use it on battery, not to mention the fact that it's a built in battery backup.

I've read through a few pages here, and read plenty of reviews via google, but haven't gotten a good feel for my big question:

I hear the cooling system works great on this laptop.
But, how's the noise?

Can anyone speak in terms of:
1- Noise in idle vs. gaming
2- Noise in comparison to previous gen Sager notebooks
3- Noise in comparison to the G53 Series (which is near silent, even when gaming, with minor peaks that become audible now and then)

You'll have to look at the measurements in the FAQ. Most likely it'll fit, but it might be a tight squeeze.

Possibly right, but I wouldn't have been interested in paying up for it. I suspect these laptop cards are mostly made to order, so I doubt there will be any big price drops (could be wrong here). To be honest, the most annoying part of the price is shipping/fees, but the card seems totally fair.
