Not without major surgery on that thing to get at where that board is, and it depends on where its touching could be on the mobo side could be on the daughter board side.

Very interesting. Yes sometimes we may need to customize things for them to work. :)

Hi, I will be getting a new laptop soon and I've pretty much decided on this one. I just have a couple of questions:
How is the cooling? Generally, how loud is the fan? Have any of you been bothered by no backlighting on the keyboard?
Thanks for your time. Hopefully I'll soon be a proud owner as you all are!

    Hi A1M,

The cooling is great - I was playing BF3 for 2 hours on it last night and CPU never got over 55, GPU never went above 70.
THe fan isn't terribly loud, but the cycling does get a little annoying sometimes - plus when the fan spins up, even though it isn't loud, the way it sounds reminds me of an old worn out fan - in other words, it doesn't "whir" as cleanly as brand new fans should.
The lack of a keyboard backlight only bothered me for the first 5 minutes I used it - it's a great keyboard, and I only use it in well-lit circumstances anyway. The keys are very bright white with clear lettering.
If those are your only concerns, it sounds like really your mind is already made up - these are great, beastly laptops.
BTW if you're planning on gaming, I was running BF3 last night on High/Ultra settings, smooth as butter, no stutter. Better performance than I was expecting.

Is there a guide out there that illustrates the most effective way to clean this laptop with compressed air? I've noticed a lot of dust building up in the air vents. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply! You're right, I've basically made my mind up, I just wanted to negate any nasty surprises I might have had upon opening the box.

This can play BF3 on high? Wow. I'm guessing you're at 720p? Either way, that's much better performance than I'm even hoping for. I will definitely be picking on of these babies up at the first opportunity.

    Quoting myself...
not sure if the problem is actually the cable

even with the female to female adapter hooked up to the good cable, I still have weird green dots and red dots. It seems related to the content, I don't have it on this forum, but on like youtube with lots of colors the thumbnails have green dots on them.

However I have the KVM also hooked up to the desktop next to me and it works perfectly. Even when I swap ends on the KVM it's still fine.

EDIT: just realized there is less green dots and red dots with the female adapter, I am so confused. Even when that cables connected to the female adapter the picture is still bad, doesn't matter if they are fully seated. I am going to replace the cable connecting to the montior to the KVM. When that cable is directly connected to my laptop, I get the same red dots, but on the pc even with all the cables hooked up, the picture is perfect.

I am confused why the laptop is having problems, perhaps not the strongest power output from the dvi cable?

Any of you guys with the GX 460M that overclocks their GPU? mine seems to OC better, running stable at 860/1720/1625 . Got 17268 on 3dMark06. Max temp only reaches 72c while playing witcher 2 for several hours.

After the waiting my NP8130 arrived today. I spent the day setting it up. I wanted to set up my dual boot of Win 7 and Xubuntu 11.10 linux. Here's my initial impressions of this laptop.

In both Win 7 and Xubuntu 11.10 it works 100% perfectly out of the box. The touchpad works perfectly and, although I had heard a lot of so-so reviews of the touchpad, I actually really like it. I have a soft touch on the touchpad and it works perfectly. The keyboard is fantastic. I prefer chiclet style keyboards and this is by far my favorite one I've used. I have also tested a few games in both Win 7 and Xubuntu to check on the performance and cooling. On Win 7 I've tried Fallen Earth, League of Legends, Runes of Magic and Minecraft. All of them run on full settings flawlessly. On Xubuntu I've played Urban Terror, Trine, Minecraft and Runes of magic via wine. All of these also ran full settings flawlessly in Xubuntu. In both Win 7 and Xubuntu the cooling is phenomenal. I have the NP8130 with the gtx 560m and had them put IC Diamond Paste on it. So far my CPU idles between 46 and 51 degrees Celsius. The GPU idles around 37 degrees celsius. During gaming the cpu peaked at 51 degrees celsius and the gpu peaked at 72 degrees celsius. One other thing I'm impressed with is how quiet it is even with the fans blowing. My old HP Envy 14 sounded like a tank with fans running while this is just a little bit of a fan hum.

One final thing I'd like to say is that I was hesitant at first to go with XoticPC because I had never done business with them previously and didn't know anyone who had. I am happy to say I received fantastic service. I made the initial order and the 95% gamut glossy screen was on a 1 day delay because of them being out of stock while waiting for a shipment the following monday. I was called by an XoticPC rep the following morning to ask me if I wanted to wait or if I wanted her to change the order. I decided to wait the extra day (the screen is completely beautiful and worth every penny). The build time was only a few days and the shipping took a total of 5 days including saturday and sunday (from Californian to me in Michigan).

I will update if any problems arise but so far I love this laptop.

^i see. seems my 460m can still serve me for a while then. haha.. just tried out bf3, on native 1920x1080p, i am, getting around 30-35fps on ultra settings, (oc'd at 860core and 1625mem) AA off and post AA high, max temp was only 67c on full fan speed. when hooked up to a 720p monitor, running smoothly at ~60fps on ultra settings! though just tried campaign mode..

Ok so I plugged the female adapter with long cable into the desktop, and it's still perfect. Then I bought 2xnew dvi cables that were highly reviewed on amazon. They are much thicker than what I had, I tried em and same problem.

Something is wrong with this laptop's DVI outport. It's very weak or something. What can I do? I doubt an RMA will solve this issue, and I can't use hdmi because the monitor only supports 120hz through DVI dual link.

I still don't know why this laptop works with on a few cables but not on others, and most definately not connected to the KVM switch... but with the female adapter hooked up to the kvm switch and connected through another cable it looks a tad better... which doesn't make much sense to me.

What are my options? Since I doubt a RMA would fix this issue... Also it doesn't happen at low res 1280x720 at like 60hz, but still happens at 1920x1080 at 60 and 120hz.

A few other people have the same issue with the KVM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817394047 if you sort his by lowest ratings.
I don't think the KVM is really the main problem, because on both ends it's fine on the desktop... maybe it degrades the signal but the grounding and stuff is very good on the desktop and it can compensate for it... but it should be noted that the product works for most of the reviewers, other than the buggyness of the device itself, which I actually haven't encountered. Also it does this in Linux too, so it's not a OS problem.

    EDIT:
okay... this laptop only works with the one cable that came with my asus 120hz monitor.
This cable here I bought doesn't work, I bought 2, neither work, bought artifact a bit, but less than connected to the kvm.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000X0VCY/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
Neither does my other gold plated dvi cable... or that other spare one.

    This thing is picky.

Battery life in Linux on my 8130 I got about 1 hour and 45 min, but I use ubuntu 11.10 on it, not xubuntu, shouldn't make a difference.

This is probably the same for Xubuntu. I haven't tested the battery life yet as i usually have my laptop plugged in. As far as I know even newer versions of the linux kernel are still plagued by bad battery life.

After tons of research and trying to find a good balance between power and mobility, the P151 is now on the top of my list. I almost went with an ASUS G53 but got a lot of bad vibes about the construction / power issues.

Looks like a 'low end' P151 is about 970 US, that's with the slowest i7 chip, 8 GB of ram and a wireless upgrade. Seems that PROSTAR is the only reseller I can find that will do LCD damage warranty. If anyone knows another, please let me know! :)

^^^Yes you'll be glad you went for the Sager NP8130/Clevo P151HM1 over the ASUS G53.

The upgrading, the just working on your machine will go much faster and easier with the Clevo /Sager model ! :)

Hey guys. I have been debating over the or a Samsung Series 7 for the past few weeks. Obviously I like this for the GPU, and am def leaning toward the Sagar. I was wondering about diamond thermal compound upgrade, do you think that is necessary? Also are any of the other upgrades essential in you're opinion? Thanks

The ICD7 isn't necessary with the 560M card in the P151HM1. You will only "need" ICD7 on a cards like the 6990M or 580M. Also, the minimum upgrades I would recommend would be the 2630QM CPU and Intel 6230 Wireless Card.

Does anyone know if any extended batteries are available for these models? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a 8150 but it'd be nice to know I could upgrade to a bigger battery if desired down the road.

Also curious to hear from the people who have been using their machine heavily since the start of the year how it's held up so far.. I'll be lugging this machine with me back and forth to work everyday so long-term durability is paramount.

There aren't any bigger batteries that I know of. The issue would be that any higher capacity battery would have to stick out from the bottom of the laptop, which would keep it from sitting flat. If you need longer battery life, a second battery is the only easy solution right now.

I've had my P150HM since March and carried it to and from work without issues. (The P151HM1 will be the same size and weight). I just carry a dust cloth with me to keep it clean and store it in a laptop sleeve for protection when transporting it :)

There are some intake fans on the bottom, so yes, placing a book to lift the back edge up about an inch is going to help airflow :)

so wouldn't a bigger battery, if available, not necessarily be a bad thing even though its sticking out.
I hope it could be an option in malibal

I'd want one, except the battery goes in the front of the laptop, so if it sticked out then it would protrude at your wrist. I love extended batteries tho when they are on the back, not a big deal.

Technically they could make a super battery that kind of goes on the underside of the laptop... that wud be awesome, would probably break the battery hinges since mine are already broken >.<
