Mine is going to ship out of California to Xotic and then back into California to avoid tax. Great service they offer but it will add to waiting time![]()

Yes since the Sager factory is in California, this is the way it is done for California customers.

how much of an improvement is the intel 6230 over the stock wireless card?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The 6230 has the potential of double the download speeds over the stock one. Also the Intel drivers are much better and are updated more regularly imo...
_ -
I'd get the bigfoot AnandTech - Bigfoot?s Killer-N 1102 Wireless Networking vs. the World
the 6230 is pretty bad...
I got it though I didn't read this first. -
Anticipation is killing me. Anyways I had a question. I got the hyrid Seagate XT with 4gb ssd. Will that come already configured? Or when I get it I choose programs that use it? thanks for the help.
-
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
The NAND automatically sees what programs you use the most and will speed up some of them.
Mr. Mysterious -
I researched that before because I have a tight budget and I haven't bought the p151hm1 yet, I'm saving up for a car instead.
I'm pretty sure since it comes with only 4gb, that it comes configured, most likely to speed up boot up time, you have to have a full ssd to choose the programs that launch it.
Oh and I guess I'm gonna stick with a 6230 instead of 1102 for now, I'll probably change my mind when I finally will order, which is probably in the very end, before the new gen stuff comes in. -
alright guys sorry about the late reply, but I had lost power. Here is the long awaited bf 3 benchmark on my laptop. The round I played was 64/64. operation firestorm.

Looks great, what's your set up? It's not in your sig. I never bothered to see if you posted it earlier, but reposting it would be great.

Anyone have case temperature reviews for the 8130/p151 with the 560. I saw the review for the p150 but it had a 485 in it so that would produce a lot more heat.
-
On heavy gaming my P151HM reaches around 75F with room temp around 65F. On idle its around 33F. Recently it went up to 85F but I opened up my laptop and cleaned cat hair on the exhaust of the fan (huge clump) and it went back down.
-
^^^ my guess is that the above poster has got units mixed up, and it should be degrees celsius not fahrenheit.
-
I wish someone would create a backlit keyboard upgrade for this laptop already.
-
I second that....
ON ANOTHER NOTE.....
Received my 8130 today
Everything is up and working well =D
Bigups to Brett@XoticPC for being so quick and helpful. -
congrats! Feel free to check out my channel to see some gaming vids on it if you haven't already! coolguylstan's Channel - YouTube

Sweet will do thanks

I believe Larry mentioned a while back that there might be some backlit keyboards come next refresh? Correct me if I'm wrong, Larry
But I agree, it has been a very high-demand thing.
Thanks for your business! Feel free to leave us a review on the Feedback forum and let us know how we did or if we can improve at all
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes it has been confirmed that select models of the Next Gen WILL have backlit keyboards.

Hi everybody! I will be posting a video of skyrim gameplay on my laptop later today or tomorrow! It plays great at about 50fps avg with shadows on medium, filtering off and everything else on ultra. Including view distance. I could probably pull high shadows off too. I will try that later.
-
Hmm..just a quick question. I've just noticed although it might've been like this the whole time, that I only feel air blowing out of one the rear thingy. I can feel it blowing it out on the right, but not on the left? Is this normal or should I be worried? I just noticed it while playing Skyrim, so was wondering.
-
The vent on the right is for the gpu, the one on the left is for the cpu. (correct me if I am wrong peeps from xotic and malibal and others.) I am guessing that skyrim is more gpu dependent then cpu dependent; as most games are. If you are really worried however, monitor your gpu and cpu temps to make sure they aren't getting to high. Or if you are REALLLY worried, hit fn 1 to make both fans go full speed.
-
Ahh, that explains it.
Thanks, was just wondering cause I thought it would be better if the air was coming out of both vents
-
no problem
-
Woo nice to know. Would you know when that would be happening?

The NEXT GEN mobile platform could happen in the 2Q 2012.

I'm curious about the webcam on this thing... When recording on the highest resolution does the audio get out of sync? Can you hear the fan in the background? It's absolutely impossible to record good 720p video on my XPS
Oh and speaking of the fans, when do they turn on? On the XPS it's once the CPU reaches 60C (idle temps are 50-55C) -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The web cam on this model is not the best feature. If one uses the webcam on a regular basis we recommend the USB clip on type like the one in the link below.
Amazon.com: Microsoft LifeCam HD-6000 720p HD Webcam for Notebooks - Black: Electronics
The fans at idle are not too loud many users have said. They turn on at different speeds according to type of activity one is doing on the machine.

Thanks for the info!

Hey guys, just got my 8130 the other day (loving it by the way) but I had a quick question about the battery.
So I know the battery life on this thing isn't great (2-3 hours) but that is not really a problem for me as it is a desktop replacement and I do not ever use it unplugged.
I would like this battery to be able to hold a least a 2 hour charge if I ever need it (power goes out in my house or something of that nature), and I know that a battery that is constantly being charged loses its charge much faster when it is not plugged in. So I looked for battery life prolonging solutions on google.
I stumbled upon a few articles/ forum posts saying that if you are using your notebook as a desktop replacement, you should simply take out the battery when it is at ~40% charge and store it in a cool place. I decided I would do this, because I never know when I will need a few hours of battery life. So I let the battery go down to ~40% and then turned off the PC and took out the battery.
Now, I am sitting here with a battery-less laptop, and it just doesn't feel right. The front part where the battery was dips down a bit and that makes me worried that the plastic could bend/ break. I am just wondering if this battery saving technique is even worth the trouble. I don't want to have a battery that only holds a charge for 10 minutes, but I also don't want to screw up my laptop or and up messing up my battery even more.
If anybody knows anything about this, then please let me know, I would be very grateful. (P.S. I am kind of new to this forum so let me know if I am posting this is the right place) -

If you're that worried about the battery and wish to keep it out, some others have suggested cutting a piece of styrofoam to fit the opening. Doing that should cut down on the flexing of the keyboard and frame and make it easier to use. I personally leave my battery in 24/7 and it's plugged into the wall pretty much always when I'm using it. Eight months of relatively heavy use and discharge/recharge cycles and I'm at ~9% battery wear. Your mileage may vary though
-
Just got my 8130 in yay. Love the build quality. Question, at the top of my screen where it meets the plastic bezel there is some plastic on the actual scree n. Almost like a scratch through thin plastic. At first I thought it was more plastic protection but it is not. Could it be the matte coming off? Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

How do people here rate the NP8130 vs. the NP8150?
-
Thanks for answering Malibal (bought my laptop from you guys
). Anyways, is ~9% wear unique, or is it pretty common for this laptop? I would be perfectly happy with about that much wear after 8 months, even a bit more would be fine with me. If anyone with this laptop has anything to say I am all ears, because any other opinions would be awesome. Thanks!

It really depends on your usage. I've had quite a number of laptops and without fail, battery wear is at 20-30% after the first 2-3 years. (or worse). Batteries are considered consumable, so it really doesn't matter how you take care of them- they'll eventually fail. Others may be able to give you better estimates on their models. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes I agree. I personally have only needed to replace 1 battery for the last 10 machines.
It is a rare occurrence if you do not keep yours for no more than 3 years or so.

Is the low price of this laptop compared to the NP8150 enough reason to choose this laptop over the 8150?
-
J.P.@XoticPC Company Representative
Kevin, if you're OK with the GTX 560M, then yes, absolutely. However, the 120W PSU prevents upgrading to any higher GPUs out there on the market.
If you want more power, though, go with the NP8150.
Here are some handy comparisons I like to show people if they're thinking about the GTX 560M or other cards:

Got myself a Clevo! i7 2670qm, 8gb ddr3 ram, GTX 560m, the goodies! Although I'm upset with it's capabilities to run Skyrim. Skyrim is not optimized for quad cores and hyperthreading. My Clevo can't keep up..
-
Well, I have the exact same laptop, (same CPU, same GPU) and I have absolutely no problems running Skyrim. I can play on ultra, but I prefer to play on high just for a few more FPS. I don't know what you mean by saying your laptop can't keep up, but maybe it is a driver issue? Try downloading the latest 560m drivers from Nvidia's site.
-
I have the latest beta drivers.. And I just have no clue! what is the FPS you're getting on high?
-
I'm getting about mid 30 - 40. I get FPS drops sometimes, like while fighting with quite a few enemies or something of that sort.
-
Is that constant in towns?
-
Highly considering getting a 8130 but have two questions.
1. I see a few people talking about one of the no brainer upgrades being the wireless card. Can someone explain why this is seen as a necessary upgrade? Will it really improve performance that much and if so which of the following is the best choice price/performance wise?
-Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card + Bluetooth
-Intel® Advanced-N 6230 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth ( + $25 )
-Intel® Ultimate-N 6300 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module ( + $35 )
-Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Wireless-N 1103 (3x3)( + $60 )
2. I undoubtely intend to upgrade the processor from the base i5 to the i7-2630QM. It looks like the next level up, i7-2670QM, just came out in the last month or so. Has anyone had any experience with the 2670QM and do you think it is worth the $50 upgrade?
Sorry if these were answered previously, there were a lot of pages to sift through. -
Yeah that's in towns and walking around the world. I turned the settings down to medium and was getting a good 50-60 FPS.
