Yes, that is absolutely true. You should be able to change your specs all the way up until shipment. I know we allow for that.![]()

It's smart~!
I just know I ordered too soon if I want the new i5 processor =[ How much better performance will they have in games compared to the new i7? -
The best i5's clock speed will be 2.7 Ghz while the best quads are 2.5 (For a grand), while the best i5 (actually it'll be an i7 branding just dual core) at 2.7 will be cheaper than the 2630qm, so a little more single threaded performance, a little better price, and better battery life and heat. They drop 2/20
-
This seems amazing. Will these make an appearance on the 8130 as well on Feb 20??
-
Yes no worry, you went with reflex ? Just call Mark to change your order! I did change mine today! I added the blu-ray burner, it's cheaper to order one aside and make the change your self, but I did not want to bother, so I went ahead.
I guess they delay the production, for us to add more goodies on the machine, I may end up by adding the 485M!
Eric -
You should! 485m is amazing... It has been 1 week I have this notebook and I can do everything with it. Bring it to work, coffee, play on a HDTV or 30inch monitor screen.
Optimus would make this perfect, but 2hours is really not bad.
Did anyone found a new driver for 485m? Only the one with the notebook seems to work. On Nvidia website there is no driver available for it, it seems... -
For gaming purposes - will the higher frequency trump the quad?
-
Try going here and click on "drivers and downloads". It will automatically detect and give you the proper latest drivers.
GeForce GTX 485M -
It didn't
, and I cannot find it manually on their website...
480m is supported but not 485m I think.
Well I installed and tried 20 games, all worked flawlessly with the original driver, so it's not a big deal for now. -
Could you post some comments on gaming performance and that crucial ssd's speed?
Tia -
Hey guys,
I posted a few days ago over on the 8130 board, but with the delay, now I'm really see sawing back and forth on upgrading to the 8150 with gtx 485.
This is what I have on order (though from xotic, not malibal)
Customizations:
Display: 15.6" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED Backlit Matte Display
Processor: Intel® Core i7-2720QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.20GHz
Memory: (8GB) 8192MB, PC3-10660/1333MHz DDR3 - 2 SO-DIMM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 460M 1.5GB GDDR5
Hard Drive: 500GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300
Optical Drive: 6X Blu-ray Reader 8X DVD+/-R DL Super-Multi Drive

Cooling: Stock OEM Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU
Warranty: 3 Year Ltd. Labor and 1 Year Parts Warranty with 24/7 USA-Based Support
Lotus P151HM1
Product Subtotal: $1,429.00
This is the config I was looking at for the 8150. It has the slower processor and less RAM, but is otherwise similar.
8150 Customizations:

Lotus P150HM
Product Subtotal: $1,919.00
However this is out of my price range. I was hoping to stay around $1500, max. The big killer here is that the bluray drive is $120 vs $70. If I cut it out, it'll cut the price down to $1799. This is expensive, but not terrible for the GPU upgrade. Will the CPU tradeoff be noticeable? Has anyone gotten their 8150 yet and can say whether it's much bulkier? I really want the smallest and most powerful version I can get. If the power brick/chassis of the 8150 is significantly bigger, it'll make it way too stationary for me.
Basically, is it worth it to cancel my order at xotic and go to malibal for the 8150? They have it priced a little cheaper and shipping costs are 1/2 of xotics. As much as I'd like to set a budget, and even though I have a fairly nice SLI 470 i7 desktop at home, I'd like to have a powerful mobile device too.
Which of the two would you guys recommend for someone that wants power but portability (and already has decent power at home). The backorder is a terrible thing because I find myself on malibal and xotic multiple times a day throwing together basically the same configs and fighting with myself over changing my order. -
Nvidia is strange with their drivers. Just run it for the 480m. If you check the release notes for say, 266.58, it says:
I'd just try to download it and install it and see if it works. Worst case scenario, it says not supported and you wait for a new one. I used to do this with my 470's when they were new. -
You could get the blu-ray later. Here, you can even have a blu-ray burner for 110$ + shipping!

Eric -
I ordered mine on 1/18, payment processed on 1/19 and I got the email from xotic that mine would be going out this week.
I did order the 8150-S1 with no customizations, so maybe that's why it's coming soon? -
I ordered mine on the 15th, put on the shipping queue on the 17th.
Larry said mine is going to ship this week as well.
-
I had a desktop PC with 2 5970, I have been playing with 2560x1600 since 2007.
I sold it and I took a P150HM with 485m and 256gb SSD.
All my favorite games work without a problem on a 2560x1600 screen.
But now it doesn't take any space (happy wife), you can bring it anywhere (if you remove battery and keep ac cable -> still around 3kgs) and no BSOD so far (and I have a huge steam collection, even the bugged new release Magicka is working with no problem).
Sure I was doing 35K-40K at 3D mark 2006 with my desktop, did it help for the games? Not really. There is no "wing commander" kind of game recently. The last one was Crysis and that is all... When you see Nvidia going for Tegra and better mobile GPU, you see that they feel the movement as well.
So my conclusion => Except if you need it for your work or to play game like flight simulator -> sell your desktop and upgrade your P150HM to the max.
I used to have many pcs, only having one make things a lot easier.
Just my 2 cents
.
-
I tried to install these yesterday but it told me my card was not supported.
-
the cpu trade-off will not be noticeable. as others have stated, the 2630 gets better results than the i7 920XM.
-
i'm debating this right now. i've got an i7 950 / sli gtx 480s / riiigene, but it's overkill. Thinking about selling it off and getting a 256 ssd and pocketing a wad of cash.
-
The 8130 / P150HM and 8150 / P151HM1 are identical in size and weight:
6.83 Lbs with Battery
14.80" (w) x 10.08" (d) x 1.38"~1.69" (h)
The only difference will be the size & weight of the power bricks. -
I couldn't test all the games with 2560x1600 res (only torchlight, fallout 3 NV, Forged alliance).
At full HD I could play everything at max settings. Tried 20 games, most of them got released last year.
Interesting thing to note is that my gaming experience was better in CIV5 with this notebook than with my desktop with CFX 5970.
It feels "smoother" even if FPS is lower: hard to explain.
After gaming for a week with the notebook, I finally sold my desktop with quad gpus, so yes I confirm that this notebook gaming experience is superb.
No Bsod at all, and my temp are always below 80 degrees for gpu while gaming. I didn't put IC diamond or AC5 I wanted to do it but...why bother?
Another good point is the rubberized keyboard corner, it really helps for long gaming session. Just a detail, but It will be hard to do without I think.
My only complaint is that the battery move a little bit. Probably 1 mm missing. So it's just when you take the notebook in your hands, you feel the battery move a little. It took me a week to realize. It reminds me the Sony Z13 battery problem (maybe not as bad).
I think it takes 10 seconds max to bootup to windows. Same than my macbookair.
I used C300 on SATA2 port for a while and then I used SATA3 adapter on my desktop.
Now it's on this notebook I can certify you that the speed is SATA3.
I heard that some M17xR3 have problem with the new intel raid storage but my SSD has been recognized without a problem at install.
I have been using a lot the notebook so it's safe to say that the SSD works.
Also, the notebook is sold out in Japan. The shop where I bought doesn't propose the 485m anymore, only 460m... -
What kind of difference is there between the 2630qm and 2720qm, and this is in regard to gaming.
-
Honestly, I don't think it matters at all.
2-3 seconds difference when passing a turn at Civ5.
So why did it take the 2720? Because it price difference was not too big.
But it's really not necessary in my opinion. -
I wanted one of these for the cinebench score. I'm going to be doing a lot of video on this machine.
Gaming it will amount to a few extra fps in cpu bound games like sc2/wow & probably diablo 3 if blizzard stays true to form, other than that not much I'll bet. -
Can you please weigh the three power bricks (8130, 8150, 8170) so we get an idea of the extra weight?
-
So are the optical drives user replaceable with standard slimline laptop SATA ones? I think I might get the 8150 with the standard DVD drive instead of the 8130, if I can do that replacement myself down the road. The bluray upgrade is $120 vs $70, and it makes it more in my budget that way.
-
Yea they are standard SATA slimline drives, one screw and they pop right out. Just exchange the bracket and you are done.
-
I know the default weight is supposed to be 6.83 lb, but how heavy is it with the 485m and the hybrid drive? I'm thinking its likely to break 7 lb then right? Also how heavy is the power brick, another 2-3? I'll have to carry this and walk 1-2 miles 4-5 times a week...
If I order one with the 485 and 8 gb ram, hybrid 500g drive, how long will it take to arrive at my doorman in NYC? -
Thx for all the help you guys have been giving.
I have one last doubt, how imprtant is the no dead pixel warranty?
Is it that common to see displays coming with dead pixels?
If someone has hard numbers on this i would apreciate.
Thx in advance. -
Depends, there are no hard numbers on number of screens coming in laptops with dead pixels, as Sager / Clevo / Resellers would probably never publish that info
Depends on the reseller too, as we throw in the no dead pixel warranty for free with our machines, so you never have to worry about it from us. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I will take this question. We are seeing less and less dead or partially lit pixels in the last several months.
If you choose the warranty and in the rare case you do find a pixel problem, the turn around time getting a replacement is faster than just turning your system in for a refund and ordering another one...

Question to the owners,
Guys, obviously 1920x1080 is extremely pretty on a 15 inch screen - but games like "Metro 2033" are pretty demanding, so dropping the resolution might be a good idea. Has anyone any experience in dropping the resolution on this little monster? Does it stay pretty? Is it very noticeable that the resolution was dropped? I.e 1600x900 , 1440x720 etc., -
Thsnks.
Care to run cdm on your c300?
-
8170 / P170HM - 4 x 8.5 x 19.5 (CM) 2.16 LB
8150 / P150HM - 4 x 8 x 16.5 (CM) 1.86 LB
8130 / P151HM1 - None in stock! Will have to post later. -
I would say 1280x720 for best performance and from my experience is the best scaling from a 1080p. Same thing for 1920x1200, 1280x800 looks best scaling, and also massive boost in performance.
-
Makes sense, Oh man, I cant believe I'm about to complain about a pure 720 resolution on a 15 inch notebook lol just a few years ago, this was GOD of HD even on 50 inch TVs lol and now I'm nagging about the how the 1280 x 720 might look on a 15 incher...
By the way, everyone seems to mention the "p" in the screen res, Is it really a progressive scan screen or is just something people say out of habit? because I thoght most Laptop screen are "i" (interlaced) i.e 1080i, 720i -
Technically LCD's aren't really progressive or interlaced, but to answer your question they behave more like progressive scan. No LCDs produce even lines on one refresh then odd lines on the second. Even in the case of 3D, the entire screen is rendered and displayed during each frame, you simply produce alternate points of view on the even or odd hz's.
-
Xotic just sent me an email letting me know that they are expecting a shipment of these in mid-February...I hate waiting.
-
I'm wondering if this is true for many resellers as well? Isn't the delay because of the video memory shortage?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Yes the video memory shortage is the main reason for delays...
-
I have read similar rumors in these forums. The email didn't state a reason for the delays. It just said that this model is hot stuff right now, and Sager is doing the best job that they can supplying the units.
-
I built my new 8150 tonight (standard i7 proc, 8gb of hyper-x 1600 ram, 485gtx, 500gb seagate momentus, 80gb intel SSD (I am using an ODD hd caddy to get two in this thing) bluetooth, MX-3 on CPU/GPU etc.
So far the laptop runs extremely cool (havent checked temps officially, by touch it is cool) and pretty quiet even gaming. I have not tested much as I've been on business and jumped right into a few games but so far she is a keeper from what I can tell. I am hoping to get close to the same battery life as my previous Asus G53. I will try overclocking to see what scores I can pull in but I need to find some clock settings first.
Recent history of laptops:
860CU
870CU
Asus G73
Asus G53
Alienware M15x -
Just curious why the 1600MHz RAM? The base CPU 2630qm can only handle 1333MHz, and according to the specs, only allows 4GB of 1600MHz, running at 1600MHz of course.
-
Correct but I got a good deal on the Kingston and it runs good when at 1333mhz compared to my previous G.Skill or Corsair. I am constantly upgrading so who knows what proc/laptop I'll have the ram in next month
-
The common thought seems to be that it can only handle two DIMMs at 1600. You're free to use 4GB sticks for 8 GB total.
-
Hi all,
Would anyone know whether there are any differences in the cooling between the np8130 and np8150?
I read earlier in the thread that both machines have the exact same chassis dimensions and weight. I am hoping the cooling system is the same, since I may end up choosing the np8130.
Thanks in advance. -

hey guys im wondering if i purchase the 8150 with 4gb of ram
will sager install them under the keyboard or on the back panel ?
im going for 4gb of ram and i hope that sager will install them under the keyboard so its easier for me to add in more by just going into the back panel -
kevindd992002 Notebook Virtuoso
It is already confirmed that they will install the "included RAM" under the keyboard.
