is the 2 press keyboard limitation present in all laptop keyboards or only in selected model?
-
Say I did go the 95% matte gamut screen which is discounted, is it really worth upgrading the 6970m to the 485m graphics card for an extra $100, even with ram reducing from 8gb to 4gb. I read a fair bit of the 6970m vs 485m thread, but just interested in some general comments. Both will run Heroes of Newerth and WoW with no problems, but I will probably eventually try a few games like crysis 2, etc.
Just for future reference, what are the prices on SSD's like. Seems that this part can really fine tune the performance of the machine, but from what I've seen they are quite expensive. The 64gb SSD is just over $100, but would this be able to hold windows 7 and a few games, or does the OS take up a lot of room?
Thanks for all the replies thus far, very helpful. -
A gaming laptop that has a keyboard that only accepts input from 2 keys?! What have I done?!
If this issue affects the NP8150-S1 I ordered, I'm gonna hit myself for not getting an ALW... -
I never noticed this issue. Then again I realized if i use three keys, it's usually two standard keys and maybe a modifier key like Shift, Alt, Ctrl, so not sure if that makes a difference. But if it is truly limited to two keys, for a machine that's intended to game, that is a complete disgrace.
-
I think we need to look into this keyboard issue a bit more. Current owners care to do some testing and report back?
-
About the keyboard issue, I'm not buying it since i've already played several games without issue, to play the devils advocate I downloaded KeyboardTest
As you can see in my screenshot it's clearly registering more than 2 keys at once, in fact I can hold down as many as I can with one hand while still manipulating other keys with my free hand.
Download the app to reproduce the results if need be.
Yes i'm on an NP8130 not 8150, No there is no technical difference between the two that would cause this they're both P150Hx motherboards. -
good to know atmosk.
i dont really play fps'es or action games so this really had no bearing on me. but its good to know that there were no issues when an actual test was done.
maybe the guys reporting issues should try your nifty kb test too. -
Game on friends. -
i was also thinking the 'kb issue' wouldve cropped up much sooner (many people here into action and fps) if it werent a few isolated(placebo?) cases.
people here have been doin reviews since january before the recall and there has been no mention of this... -

And exactly what keys are you actually hitting when this happens? -
How hard is it to self upgrade the WIFI adapter? I purchased a 6300 on ebay but cant see the adapter to swap out the 5300 when I open my 8150 up. Hoping it's not under the keyboard? Couldnt find anything in the manual either.
Much appreciated.
And for whomever was asking about the 12.7 v 12.5 ODD, the ebay 12.7 fit fine, just trying to work out how to swap the front bezel to have the sloped plastic and not an awkward indent. -
The service manual HERE shows where it is. -
Oh well back to waiting... And fingers crossed... -
@Atmosk
Thanks mate, you're a legend! Getting the keyboard off was actually a lot easier than I thought, couldnt push the top panel off through the back but managed to pick it out from the front top corner.
Rebooting now, fingers crossed! -
Take the $100AUD off the 485m and you can buy yourself an SSD (64GB at least). Windows takes up about 10-15GB already after installed. You can put 1 or 2 games most likely not including your temporary files and such.
However, I went for the optical drive route; removed my DVD drive for a secondary 750GB drive. -

I tried out this test on my keyboard as well. Had some fairly interesting results. When holding down W then A then Shift, G would not register, but every other key around it would, just not G. If I held down W, A, and Z, every key except Q, X,C, G, and N would work. I didn't test extensively with other keys, these are the first two tests I did. Just randomly holding down different combinations of keys provides similar results, some keys working while others don't when pressed together, there doesn't seem to be any apparent pattern to it.

A BIG Sager special for the NP8150 S-1! Till June 15th get the 95% Gamut screen upgrade Matte or Glossy for just $45.00!!
__ -
How much would it run to have a 95% glossy sent to me with no upgrade?
-
Guys I just received my Sager NP8150 and have some questions:
1. what is the latest official BIOS?
2. I installed a Intel 510 SSD and doing a fresh OS install (Win 7 x64). What drvivers/software do I need to install and where to get them from.
Thanks! -
-
How about we get some pictures up from users of their machines on the desk. Always good to see how other users have their machines and desks setup.

If not then there's a link in the Sager website:

I'll put mine up
!

EDIT: I guess we can move after that happens though. -
How can I turn my fans to 100% ??? The FN+F1 combination doesn't seem to work... I am doing something wrong?
what software can I use to meassure the temps?
thanks! -
You can monitor max temps, min temps and current temps with it.
Edit: Btw, it's FN + 1, NOT FN + F1 -
thanks!
Any ideas regarding the FN+F1 fan option? -
-
Thanks a lot!!!
I hope those fans will never run that loud.
-
On the bright side, I would soon have another reason for pretending not to hear my parents when they call me: my fan's too loud! lol -
)
dont u guys let urself be intimidated by all the negative posts concerning the (not at all annoying) noise levels!
cheers -
Hi,
It seems like the 560m will be coming to the NP8150 this summer as a replacement for the 460m. Does anyone know if it will be optimus-enabled? -

@ Thisisalamp, great photo! Also, great review.

If you have an existing P150HM with 485M graphics card will you be able to update to optimus card like the 560M or doesn't the motherboard support this?
What is the order of graphics card performance: 460M -> 560M -> 485M ? -

GTX560m is Optimus enabled, it only depends on the manufacturer whether they want to allow the technology to be implemented..
So far, Alienware & Toshiba are having their GTX560m with Optimus.
I've also heard that the upcoming G74SX will have it.
I'm unsure about the G53SX though =/
But isn't Optimus a little troublesome?
Besides being able to conserve a lot of power which is a big bonus, I heard that there will be many compability issues and that the discrete GPU won't be able to perform full throttle, isn't it?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks =) -
Can't we just get an option, or a hard switch to switch between the two graphics options? And yes, I have heard that Optimus was buggy, but appears to be getting much better.
I'm sorry, but not having this option available for the NP8150 (P150HM) is beyond me. I would have thought the mix of excellent performance coupled with the potential for decent battery life (4 hours) would be a no brainer? -
switchable graphics is not possible with the current mobo.
my hope is Ivy bridge will finally bring it to clevo/sager gaming notebooks... -
^ Which is due around beginning of next year... Well, once its implemented, you'll have an awesome laptop, decent battery on the go, coupled with awesome plugged in performance.

Been having some issues with putting my NP8150 to sleep. When I hit sleep, the screen turns off, but the computer doesn't. The "Power Light" is still on and I can still hear the fans. Whats worse is I cannot wake the computer up from sleep, and the only option is to hard-reboot.
This has been occuring more often lately, but it seems to sleep fine if everything is unplugged (AC adapter, HDMI cable) and I disable both wireless and bluetooth. But should I have to do this to put the computer to sleep? I didn't think so ...
