My GTX 485M uses 1500-2000MB memory when playing Crysis 2 with DX11 and the high res pac. Thats a lot!

Slightly confused on how to set max battery life when unplugged.
I modified the power plan, but I also have this taskbar icon labeled 3.3020, and when I open it, I get 3 choices for power conservation modes. Do I use this in conjunction withe the power plan? Are the 3 conservation modes configurable? -

Good NEWS!
For the Sager NP8150 nVidia® GeForce® GTX 580M 2GB GDDR5 DX11 is a $495.00 upgrade
For the nVidia GeForce GTX 485M with 2GB GDDR5 it is now only a $295.00 upgrade
YES THE 485M's pricing has been lowered!
_ -
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M is now available from all resellers. It will start shipping in Early July. Also, the 485M is now only a $295 upgrade from the 560M on this model!
-
how much the 485m costs now?only the card.
-
Why +$295 for 8150 and +$395 for 8170?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
It is a more special deal on the NP8150. This is all we have on it. Sorry.
_ -
Probably price discrimination. I imagine people buying 8170s are in general more willing to spend more money.
-
This doesn't make a lot of sense. If the 580M is only a 485M with a higher clock, why does it cost $200 more? Surely you can just OC a 485M, can't you? And I mean, the clock speed is just 45Mhz higher?!
Aren't they based on the same GF104/GF114 architecture? I read that a lot of the new improvements of the GF114 are for higher clocks, but since it's a notebook GPU there isn't as much headroom for higher clocks... -
Welcome to the world of nVidia?
-
8170 doesn't really cost much more than an 8150 similarly equipped, only larger screen and second hdd bay. Same power supply and internal guts for the most part.
-
guys how much a single gtx 485m costs?
-
Oh cool, I guessed I imagined a price gap.
-
And now, the regret begins....!
"Why did I not wait till the GTX 580m to come out where it is almost the same price as having a GTX 485m earlier" -
Why didn't you wait for the GTX 585M
or the GTX 680M or...

Approximately $750 -
Well, exactly. People that play that game never win. Pick the best GPU at the time you're going to buy. Six months later something newer and better will come out. So there will always be buyer's remorse if you think that way. But it's just the nature of the business, and just deal with it. Thankfully we all have MXM slots, so in a year or so you can probably buy a 685m with 50-70% performance increase and sell your 485m for $400.

-
Actually, with the 580M out now, the 485M will probably be around $550. The pricing was reduced by $200.
-
LOL. Funny but true. I do know a couple people that are like that. Maybe not five years, but 2-3 years. The one downside I see is multiplayer games. Most die out after a year, even popular ones after two years or so. So there's little value in a three year or older primarily multiplayer game.

Yeah that's what I mean
-
I just saw alienwares m17 and it comes with optimus and the 580m. Its advertising 5 hours of battery life.
What are the chances that ivy bridge, and the 28nm gpu's will be compatible with our np8150 and will increase our battery life? -
Optimus is only with the GTX 460m, they don't offer 485m or 580m (yet).
-
Just spoke with dells/alienwares customer service (I know not the best source sometimes lol), and they confirmed that the 580m on the m17 is shipping with optimus.
-
i just ordered to sir Larry NP8150 with gtx 580M hope to post some benchmarks when i get it. thanks.
-
Hello guys.
I read alot, participate almost never... Anyways, 2 things.
Bought my lappie off LPC, thank you again Larry, you have been most helpful throughout the process... and the machine arrived this monday june 27th, the day UPS said it would, so thank you again Larry, but i wont be able to get it until the 8th of july... so, expect a full report and review to follow around august, cause i will be working all the month of july, so not enough time to enjoy the lappie, just an initial inspection once i get it to see that everything is working perfectly and harmoniously
Second point, for all those interested, Nvidia official webpage confirms alienware m17x is the only one that includes optimus at this point of time with the new GTX580m...
GeForce.com - Get the Most Out of Your GPU
very sad indeed... and my lappie arrived to its destination and a day later the new GPU was out...
Best Regards Guys
Hauzeur,
Now a proud owner of an NP8150 (theoretically, cause i wont be able to really "own" it until july the 8th)
i7-720qm - GTX585m - intel 6230 - glossy 95% gamut - 8GB RAM 1333 - 500GB HDD -
iirc all 5 series m gpu's are optimus enabled

Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
All? I doubt that. If that were true, the performance of the top tier cards would suffer...

We very much look forward to your thoughts on this model! Just let me know if you need anything! Thanks!

Yeah, Larry's the way to go..
My laptop's in for RMA with the Chipset fix, and he couldn't have been any more helpful.
He has my business from now on related to laptops

Drivers for ATI HD6990M is up on Clevo Driver page for P150HM!
-
^ Interesting, didn't think the 6990M was going to be out till the end of the year at the earliest?
-
They are optimus enabled, it's up to the hardware manufacturers to wire them appropriately.
-
should i update my bios on the Clevo BIOS thread or get the bios from reseller?
-
Having some pretty bad problems with my 8150. In my earlier posts, you'll see I had problems with the screen going black and strange defects occurring with graphics and then a notification saying something along the lines of "Windows has successfully recovered from an error involving Nvidia etc". That happened maybe once a week. Then it happened more frequently so I updated the driver and everything was ok.
About a week ago while playing Rift, my game crashed, and crashed again every day after. I downloaded the new drivers from nVidia and it seemed to fix it. A few days ago, starting the game or any game for that matter would result in strange artifacts appearing on the screen in form of tiny black squares. I reinstalled the driver and everything was ok.
Now today, it did it again but crashed the whole computer. Upon restart, I uninstalled the driver and re-installed. Same problem (with every game). Not only just games either, opening firefox would cause the exact same problem: screen going black every 2 seconds and windows showing the notification as it did initially. I've been messing with different things for 4 hours now to no avail.
I reverted back to 270.61 and while firfox works, the games will still not work. I'm at a loss for what to do. All drivers were installed clean. I did update the bios probably 2 months ago but wasn't having any issues then. Also OC'd a very low amount at that point and again, no issues except with artifacts, so I got rid of it. Any help would be appreciated. -
Hi, if you purchased a Sager-branded Clevo notebook then you need to contact your reseller to get the BIOS. However, if you purchased a Non-Sager branded Clevo notebook, then you can get the lastest BIOS updates here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/416916-clevo-bios-thread.html
-
It's pretty safe to assume that your 485M is the issues.
RMA is the only option. -
After remember the issues my older HP I had, I did something similar. Turned the comp off and unplugged everything and took the battery out and let it sit for 20 minutes. This seems to have made the problem "better." While my computer isn't crashing at any sign of gpu load, I am able to actually play a game but not perfectly. Rift takes a long time to load but ran perfect once in game, simple games like Rush have sound issues. I don't know what relation this has to what I did with the battery and such though...

Hey guys,
I just got a clevo 8150 laptop and I have to say that I am loving it. I have a a minor annoyance though that I was hoping to be fixed. My webcam, is not showing the colors properly. Everything is darker than what it originally is and the colors aren't as bright. Even in a bright room, the images on the webcam seems dark. Does anyone know how to fix this? Is this an issue with the webcam itself, like is it a defect, or is there a driver that I should specifically download? I am using win 7 64 bit at the moment.
On a side note, does anyone have a good laptop cooler to recommend to be used in conjunction with this laptop?
Thanks,
Sam -
There is a driver that comes with it, if I'm right (the Bison CAM). You could adjust the gamma on the webcam directly from the program that comes with it.
As for the cooler, anything that has fan intakes on the back, aligned with the laptop's fans are good e.g. Coolermaster CF-19, CryoLX and some Zalman adjustable coolers. -

Mine are 40/40/0/50/8/5/0, and it looks great. -
did you remove the small blue protective sticker over the webcam?
-
My webcam quality is pretty bad, I have to say. Not sure how to make it better.
-
Any downsides to using a clevo bios on a sager np8130?
-
Only that you'll lose that ugly Sager splash screen. Heck, that might be a plus.
