Shows up as $80 for Home Premium from resellers, which is a good deal compared to buying it retail from like Best Buy or something. I have access to Windows 7 for free though from work so you may want to check and see if that option is available to you before shelling out the $$. There are apparently much cheaper ways to obtain a copy online, but I imagine it might be a little bit shady to do so through those methods.

If you're a student, you can obtain a W7Pro license for $30, or for free if your school participates in MSDNAA. -

On Sager's site they already have Windows 7 Home Premium pre selected. When you go through a reseller it doesnt come with it but as an option to select. Once you select it then the price is the same on both sites.

What would be a safe OC for the 485M card? Could I OC to 580M frequencies without worries?
Thanks! -
NVIDIA Inspector 1.9.5.5 download from Guru3D.com -
What would be e safe/manageable OC for this card? I don't want to push it to far... -
If you want to OC, you have to sit down and spend some hours to find the stable settings for your card.
The way you do this is, run Vantage and OC as you get a successful run in Vantage, raising the clocks by a significant amount.
When it crashes, then reduce clocks and start increasing little by little, like 10mhz. When you find the max clock at which the card doesnt crash, lower that by 5mhz each, and start testing furmark, game benchmarks, etc., to see they work and not glitch. -
Quick question on the 8150:
I have 2 hard drives installed (one in optical bay). Which bay corresponds to which disk? Basically, I want to make sure that Windows is installed on the disk in the standard HD bay, not the optical bay. -
The standard HD bay should be listed as SATA port 0.

I just got the new kindle,
Wow. So small, light, nice display!! -

Completely off topic but: I'm getting the Kindle Fire
Back on topic: I think people should be able to play BF3 on medium settings (1080p res) at least. Setting reqs too high is like shooting yourself in the foot now, just so that more powerful machines in the future can run it "perfectly".

Update on Sager NP8150:
recap of problem is here: description of intermittent display
The laptop made it back to Sager on 9/23 (3-day shipping paid by Sager). On 9/28, I sent an email asking if they had found anything. They got back to me quickly and said they tested all the components and couldn't find anything wrong with them. They said they were changing the motherboard, just in case, and were returning it to me. It was put in the mail (also 3-day) and I got an email today, 9/30, with a shipment tracking notification. They extended my 30-day return policy to 10/26... so I should have enough time to evaluate their fix.
I'm disappointed they didn't find a loose connector or anything else wrong with it. And I'm disappointed something left their assembly floor with an intermittent problem in the first place. But, I'm pleased with how they handled the return. Hopefully I'll be testing it again, soon.

I purchased an empty hdd adapter with my P8150 for $50. I bought it with using my current laptop's drive in mind... and subsequently upgrading to a full SSD.
So Sager'll sell you the drive bay... -
-
. I think the easiest thing to do now will be to just physically swap the drives.
BTW, would one get any performance issues using the drive in one bay vs. the other? Assuming both are 72k drives, not SSD. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
well I hope you mean 7.2K drives, I don't think 72K drives will be implemented
Assuming you're talking about the different bays....no, there should not be any performance difference. As one of the previous posters said, the internal HD bay is SATA 3, while the optical bay drive is SATA 2. But that won't matter when you're using 7.2k drives because they won't be able to go faster than the bandwidth of SATA 2.
TL;DR : No.
Mr. Mysterious -
Hello all, long time lurker here. It's time for a new laptop and am weighing many options. I had a question I'm sure someone here may know. Do any of the vendors here, or members know if anyone other than Dell/Alienware offers the GTX580m w/ Nvidia Optimus. I have not yet found a Sager/Clevo model which supports Optimus with a GTX580m, and I am concerned about battery life coming from a Dell D620 with 15Cells of battery power which is slowly crapping out on me.
I'm currently looking primarily at the 8150p with a GTX580m, but was not sure if it supports Optimus. -
Mr_Mysterious Like...duuuuuude
I'm pretty sure that Alienware is the only vedor (well-known and reliable anyways) that offers the GTX580M with Optimus.
Mr. Mysterious -
Well now looking back at Dell's site for Alienware customizations, Im not seeing the GTX580 w/ Optimus specified, so maybe I was wrong with the assumption the the Alienware did support the GTX580w/ Optimus. Thanks for the response.

I have bought a clevo p150hm and I have a little problem...
My ddr3 are G.skill at 1600mhz but they only run at 1140mhz on benchmarks as AIDA64.
Does anybody have a solution ? -

I buy it to Invasion Labs www.Invasion-Labs.com
I just received it today. -

^^^^ I am not sure what they are doing in France where you bought yours.
Most of us here in the US are using the Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 HyperX Plug n Play memory in this model, that is for the 1600's.
I would check with your reseller about this issue.

Both drives like Mysterious said are SATA II so no performance issues. -

Guys what would be a safe temperature for the CPU?
I have a I7-2720QM an while playing Battlefield 3, two of the cores reach arround 91-92C while the rest are arroung 75-80C.
If I use a laptop cooler (Zalman NC3000U) the temps drop about 10C. -
For my sake, I try to keep it under 80'c.
I wouldn't worry unless it hits 90'c, but yours seem to hit it. I advise that you use the cooler when you game. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
91-92C while under load is still considered acceptable. However, yes as Ryan said a cooler is always good when pushing these machines.

Under windows update,
in the optional updates,
there is now a "lenovo display update"..
I know that this is a panel that is identical to the ones used in Lenovo, but should I install lenovo software in the optional update?.. -

Hmm, I didn't see any difference but thanks for the clarification!

Hi All. Noob here.
Well I have done a ton of reading through this forum for the last couple of days. Originally looking for a decent portable gaming laptop, I decided to go for the Alienware M14x. Now thanks to all the info I have found I have ordered the PC Specialist Vortex II - their take on the P150HM.
Going for the following specs:
95% Matte screen
i7 2760QM
HD6990
8GB Samsung 1333
750GB WD (would have loved SDD, but had to save money somewhere)
Am soooo excited. This will be my first self owned (not work in other words) laptop and it sounds brilliant. Should be with me by the end of the week or Monday of next.
I cant wait. It will be more powerful than my desktop!
Forgot to add the reason I'm posting: To say a big thanks to all here. You have helped me make the decision. -

My Lotus P150HM came in today from Malibal...first laptop I've ever owned. I had ordered they slowest shipping but they still got it 2nd day air for some reason. Sweet!
OS/Driver installs went fine and everything runs great performance wise, I am very satisfied with this machine. I'll be sitting down for some benchmarks soon and posting.
2 problems: First off, I have this smudge in the very middle of the screen. I didn't notice it until I started playing games and mucking around with display settings. But when I did that screen test someone posted ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...evo-p150hm-owners-lounge-361.html#post7833843) it was really obvious. I cleaned the screen with a microfiber cloth so I know it's not on the surface.
I'm wondering if this is one of those "stuck pixel/dead pixel" everyone is talking about... It's like a floaty in your eye kinda thing compared to an obvious speck or dot that contrasts with the rest of the screen. It's more of a gray color. The annoying thing is it's almost exactly in the center of the screen. You can't see it when the screen is all black, but any other colors it shows up on. I tried some of the solutions suggested here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/605720-new-p151hm1-dead-pixel.html#post7842979 but so far it's still there, staring me right between the eyes! I'm assuming that thread contains all the commonly known tricks to fix one of these things?
2nd issue: When I use the fans in FN-1 mode, the left side fan stops and starts intermittently. It mostly runs at full speed but it cuts out every few seconds and then keeps going. I tried it in various power profiles and configurations, with the battery in, with the battery out, nothing makes a difference. I already emailed Malibal my bios version hoping it's maybe just a simple update to fix. Anyone else had this sort of problem? A google search didn't turn up anything. -
I recently got a P150HM from PCSpecialist (couple of weeks ago), and have noticed the same thing - my fans "pulse" when they are in fn+1 mode.
I haven't had to use this feature yet as the default cooling seems to work ok, so didn't really follow it up. But I would be interested if other folks have this as well, and whether a BIOS update fixes it. -
Hi there guys, I'm a long time lurker and first time poster who's looking at getting his first NP8150.
I was doing a fair bit of reading around the boards here (nearly 400 pages HOLY COW!) and I've decided on most of the specs for my laptop
- 95% Gamut screen
- 2630QM
- HD6990
- 8GB - DDR3 1333MHz
But I'm a little undecided about the HDD. I'm looking at buying a pair of these for my wife and I to replace our old 4820TGs and I'm looking for some good IO but also a lot of space for cheap. I was wondering, has anyone here tried raiding together a pair of 500gb drives? I hear that having the 4gb SSD hybrid might not be very beneficial with this setup.
I'm just trying to get the best bang for my buck and SSDs are still way pricey, I'm hoping that this laptop will last me many years and it's something I can turn towards later.
What are your thoughts? -
From what I've heard, if you don't want to spend the money on a SSD, the hybrid is a good option. I looked up some reviews on it and it doing better than the standard HDD in tests while obviously still being slower than the SSD. Seems like a good in between option.
