The manual has some steps you can take for the best audio. See picture link below..

    -

On of the things to keep in mind that the manual points out is...

"The Fn + 5 key combination allows you to toggle the audio system between stereo and surround modes.

The stereo mode will allow for a louder audio volume." :)

I thought the Fn+5 combo was just for the P170HM?

Is it also for the P150HM?

No, it's for the P170HM only. The P150HM only has two speakers plus a sub, while the P170HM has five speakers. That shortcut doesn't do anything on the P151HM1/P150HM.

make sure your thx is working and registered.
also try to play around with the settings. i was also dissapointed at first but i played around with the settings, and my sound from the internal speakers/headphones are quite decent now; ie try turning of surround, etc.

I just received my i7-2720QM as a replacement and apologie for the 2620M ES which was shipped in my P150HM, and the replacement went OK, the machine was working pretty good, with good temps, after it.

Then, rebooting to complete the installation of a new nVidia driver, it turned off...

Now it won't turn on. The blue light in the power button and the Bluetooth light will turn on for some seconds, the drives will turn on, but the fans won't.

Additionally, it will turn off after 3 seconds.

To the other person who had this issue: what was the outcome of this sittuation?

ps.: never user it in the bed. Usually, use it on a table, in a temperature-controlled room at work.

That's a solid setup you have there. With the SSD, 580M GPU, and the extreme processor, you'll be able to handle any of the current games without an issue. That's actually pretty similar to a build I've been looking at. Congratulations and hope you see it soon!

On this one, I would try removing all power sources (battery and AC adapter) and then press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Try running it on AC power only when turning it back on. If this doesn't help, remove the power sources again, and try reseating the RAM.

You can find the P150HM disassembly guide here: P15xHM_ESM.zip

There is a spot in there about installing the hard drive. Afterward you'll want to set your computer to boot from the optical drive by changing the boot order in the BIOS. Then you should be able to boot to your Windows DVD and start installing. :)

I didn't try the 15 second thing. I reseated tthe processor and checked everything, nothing was wrong. Then I replaced it with the old 2620M ES and voi là... Here I am again...

I can't understand what would cause a brand new CPU to work and survive several stress tests and reboots and then just die in the morning after I made it went through all this...

    Temps were ok.

I tried now to retest the 2720QM. Same results as before.

Now that I placed the 2620M again, the notebook will turn on, but the fand won't... Damn.

Don't do anything that would void the warranty, the time you would save fixing it by yourself isn't worth the risk of not being able to send it back to your reseller.

Turns out the issue with mine was a corrupt BIOS. Either way, by the time I got any response, my patience was running thin. Decided to do a refund and go with either Dell or HP.

(Continuing from my crash issues on pages 420-426)

I have been getting the Windows 7 "[application] has stopped working.. close pogram" crashes now not only playing Battlefield 3 but also in other applications such as Cinema 4D (a 3D modelling program), After Effects (a film compositing and VFX program) and internet browsers (IE and Firefox).

They are not frequent enough that I can't live with it entirely but when I am working on film in C4D or AE and a crash occurs it does put a dent in my productivity. Although the issue may not lie in my hardware all together but rather in my OS, drivers or other compatibility related area, I finally got around to running Memtest86.

3 passes in to the Memtest86 test (3hours run time) I had no errors. 45minutes later I returned to check up on the progress and I found the interface distorted like this:

I left it running for another 10 minutes waiting to see a change but the interface did not clean up and as a result I was unable to discern whether Memtest had discovered an error and stopped the test.

I rely heavily on my laptop and don't often find time to run Memtest. Having to send in the laptop to my reseller would be a big stress and I am trying to avoid that unless there is no other alternative.

Does anyone have any insight as to what happened to the Memtest interface? I'll try running the test again overnight.

    Thanks

I also want to know about this result in Memtest86. Does it indicate an error or is it just a bug of Memtest86?

That's a pretty old version of memtest. Try running the newer version, Memtest86+ V4.20 and see if it gives the same error. I'd assume it is just an issue with memtest.

Edit: Whoops, I thought it said V1.0, not 4.0. :p gotta get some new glasses I guess. Try 4.20 anyway :)

well, a while back we did establish that your old ram was causing your instability but it seems like you put it back.
ill bet you their the ram thats seated in the 2048 region.

    Hey,

We did not establish that the old RAM was the cause of the crashes although it was a suspicion. Back when we were discussing the issue a few weeks ago I removed the old RAM and said as much in my posts. I have not put the old RAM back into the machine since. I did purchase new RAM since then so that I now have an additional 4GB bringing the total to 12GB as my film related work requires allot of memory.

During the time after I took out the old RAM and before I had inserted the new RAM the crashes never ceased.

Could you expand on what you said about the RAM that is seated in the 2048 region?

    Thanks for your help

    pepi,

i thought you mentioned that before that crashes ceased once you took out the old ram, but i see that this is not the case.
in your picture, if you look at the upper right hand side memtest says it is testing 256 of 2048, the first ram slot.

    edit:
you could remove your new ram and see if you run in to the same error.

I said at the time that I hadn't crashed playing Battlefield 3 for a couple of hours, although I would post back later with once I had given it more time. The crashes never did cease after I took out the old RAM and they were there before I entered in the new RAM. The Battlefield 3 first patches did help in that the game crashes less often, making it far more playable, but the crashes are still there and have never gone.

Anyway, when I get around to burning the newer version of Memtest and running it again I'll post back with results.

    Thanks all for your support!

One thing to note is that the Memtest sign on the top left turns red only when there is an error with the memory, otherwise it would be green.

I think there is an error with the RAM, as the Memtest indicator turned Red.

len888, if you have experience installing Windows on a standard HDD you do it the same way. Put your OS disc in the disc drive and start up the computer. If the BIOS is set to boot off the optical bay first you should go right into your Windows install, if not just change your BIOS so it does. Once you have it installed find SSD Tweaker to change some settings Windows to help your SSD last long.

This issue is really bugging me lately, and I've just been living with it since I got my notebook back in May. Was hoping for some help though.

If some may recall, there was an issue with a "bluish tint" on these notebooks. Sager sent out a message saying the way to fix this was to adjust the blue colour slider in the "colour calibration" screen in windows (I have to slide it to below halfway on the blue scale to get the right colour).

I do that and the screen looks great, but whenever I load a full-screen application such as a game, it goes right back to the blue tint. When I open the colour calibration the blue slider is back to the default position.

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this issue? It's not a major problem, just annoying to go to the colour calibration screen each time it happens.

Also seems to occur sometimes when I plug in an external monitor.

I noticed these but they only have profiles for the 95% color Gamut screens, while I have the stock glossy screen.

It also mentions that its for NVIDA GPUs but I don't see any option for AMD GPUs ...

Will this still work for the stock screen and AMD GPU?

The GPU doesn't matter, they will work on any model as they only affect the screen output. That said, being for the 95% screens, you may not get any better quality as every screen is different and the calibration profiles should be matched as close as possible to your hardware.

I've suggested this before, but you may have decent results going to a hardware/art supply store and getting one of the color sample sticks (preferably grays) and using either the graphics card control panel or Windows color calibration and matching it up by eye. A Spyder 3 is the best way to do it, but not everyone has them laying around :)

I'm just getting my hands on 240gb Kingston HyperX sata3 SSD and still installing a few sofwares before performing crystaldiskmark benchmark.

So far, no BSOD occurred on the machine and i like the sudden changes in terms of speed compared to normal HDD. :D

It's not really quality I'm worried about. Its that my calibration settings go back to default (wayyy to blue) every time exit a fullscreen application such as a game.

Here's an example (note that images were taken with my iphone so not the best quality, but you can tell the difference for sure):

Defaut (all sliders to the right, but this is way too blue. The bars should all look gray):

Corrected (notice the blue slider is down past halfway, and now the bars look gray for the most part)

When I start a full-screen application such as a game, I notice the colour change on my screen (a quick flash before the game loads). Then, when I quit the game and check my calibration, the slider is back to the default position and everything is too blue.

    anyone please? ssd tweaker? hmm
by the way i am pretty sure 120gb ssd is not enough for future use.
I just installed win7, and softwares & drivers, modern walfare 3, nfs the run, warcraft 3.
and now i left with 25gb space
    any thoughts guys?

by the way gaming on this machine is completely a BEAST.
modern walfare running all on high settings avg around 40-45fps!
    temp hovering around 65-70c amd 6990 + i7 2670qm :)

i dont think there is a program itself that will optimize all settings for your ssd, but you can alternatively google ssd optimizations, and manually do it yourself. from what i read, its not that hard.

I just bought the Sager NP8150 at Powernotebooks and can't wait for it to arrive! I am currently typing on my Sager NP5720 which is over 5 years old and has served me like a champ! The only reason I'm changing is for the upgrade in technology! I'll let you know what it's like when I get it!
