    1. It depends. What do you plan to do with it? If you're just gaming, then no. The price difference will net you almost zero gain in games as they'll be bottlenecked long before you even need the 2760qm, let alone the 2860. However, if you plan to do encoding/archiving/virtual machines, you may actually see a use for the higher end CPU.

    2. This has been shown in benchmarks to add ~4-5% improvement for gaming and benchmarks. If the cost is worth the extra improvement, then go for it :)

    3. Yes, it's actually rather impressive. If you don't do color sensitive work though, it may not actually be something you find necessary. See the link below for a comparison of both:

Hey, guys. I purchased a Sager NP8150 not too long ago (from their website) and I'm loving it so far.

I ordered it with the 500GB drive with the hybrid 4GB SSD.

I'm just wondering how the SSD works? As far as I know, I can't view it on my computer and have no access to what files are placed on it. I assume it just has the OS on it and nothing else.

I downloaded the Intel SSD Toolbox, but the only drive that shows up there is a 465.65GB HDD. I have no experience with SSDs prior to this. I just saw the option to add a 4GB one so I went for it.

Am I missing something? Is the SSD installed properly? Is it even in my machine?

    Thanks for the answers!

I think wikipedia can best explain this one - Hybrid drive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Long story short your hybrid drive uses an SSD on the front end and the back end is storage. So if you access a small file it will use the SSD cache to speed up the transfer rate for smaller files.

    hi guys, need help here...
My gpu (gtx485m) is reaching 100ºC when i play some games without fn+1 (most recently Battlefield 3 and Game of Thrones Genesis), if I forget to actave fn+1, after some time, fps drops to 10... With fn+1 the temp doesn't get lower than 90ºC but I can play with normal fps.
    I'm using coolermaster notepal x2.
    Is it normal?

    Thanks in advance. =]

    What are your ambient temps?
I live in a tropical country and if I didn't use fn + 1 and propped up my laptop in particularly warm days, id get temps in the 90s

hi guys, got a question concerning the CPU temperature:

My i7 2670 is constantly idling around 45-50 degrees while doing some light work (surfing, Microsoft Office, etc.). This seemed a little bit high to me, especially since the other parts are idling under 40 degrees (roomtemperature is around 10-15 degrees). Naturally I thought there must be some problem with the CPU-fan.

But the thing is that while gaming the CPU temperature rarely goes over 70 degrees or even comes close to that, which is very good from what I read online.

This confuses the heck out of me and might be the reason why the fans are working so irregular (fans turn on and off every couple seconds). Are those temperature in idle mode considered normal for this type of notebook?

Temps seem like they're OK. Do you have an external monitor hooked up or anything? or any programs running in the background?

That's about similar to my ambient temps.
I had a cm sf-19 cooler which is much more powerful than yours. It made little difference under our tropical weather. I have since then sold it.
Use fn+ 1 and prop up the back of your laptop with something like a bottle Cap. I can get 10-20*c less when I do this

Hi I got my laptop from Malibal (Lotus P150HM) and the power adapter is HUGE. I was wondering if anyone knew of any compatible power adapters out there that I can use. I read that the 150 came with a 180w adapter cause it needs to support the more powerful graphics cards. I got my laptop with a GTX 560M, so any suggestions?

You can probably run it just fine with a 120w adapter, however it's not going to be that much smaller. The third party adapters I've seen reviewed on here have all been very iffy in terms of power output and quality though, so there really isn't much option for others unfortunately :(

Can the resellers confirm if the 1600MHz "PnP" Kingston HyperX RAM work with the 2630QM on these systems? There is a report in the 8130 that it does work as long as it is PnP.

It will work in the system, but it will not work above 1333Mhz. The HM65 chipset does not support XMP RAM for overclocking and the memory controller on the 2630/2670 is hard limited to 1066/1333 frequencies. It will not handle it at the full rated speeds. If the bios supported RAM overclocking, then it would be possible, however it is not on this model.

But it was mentioned by "Notebook Gamer" in the recent messages of the NP8130 owner's lounge that 1600MHz will work (run at rated 1600 MHz speed) as long as it is PnP. How can we explain the confusion I'm having here? :(

Well, I don't actually have the ram myself, but it would be cool if one of the retailers here could test it out. I am simply basing my claims off of numerous sources that I have read.

I found another thread where they even managed to get 16gb of 1866mhz pnp ram to work with the 2630qm.

    Link:
G73Sw tested with Kingston's new Plug N Play Hyper X

They tested it with the G73sw, which also uses the hm65 chipset according to the official site. Here is a picture of the 2630qm running 16 gb of 1866 mhz ram. 2x930 ~= 1860

Quoting two of the posts in this thread: Kingston HyperX 1866 PnP SODIMM Memory - Page 4

In this article, they test 8gb of the 1866 mhz pnp ram with an i5 that only officially supports up to 1333 mhz ram, but it still manages to work. The laptop tested also uses the hm65 chipset: Kingston HyperX 8GB 1866MHz PnP Memory Kit For Notebooks - Sandy Bridge Notebooks Get HyperX Treatment - Legit Reviews

So even though the 2630qm only officially supports 1333 mhz of ram, according to these tests, it seems to be compatible with the kingston hyperx 1866mhz pnp ram.

Well, if we compare it with their desktop counterparts, RAM usually are overclocked way higher than what is rated for a specific processor. It's the board that is the limitation. Usually, 1600 MHz RAM kits in desktop are XMP, meaning you need to change the BIOS setting to XMP if you want to use rated clock and timings.

With PnP, I'm not really sure how it works but if it is really "Plug and Play", it means that 1600 MHz will work with the np8130/8150 even with just a 2630QM CPU simply because the motherboard "can" easily accommodate 1600MHz. This is evident if you use a 2720QM and above CPU.

My info is not 100% accurate and you should take it as a grain of salt. I canmot confirm this until I get my np8130 which will be in transit some time this week. LPC Digital for the win! :)

Hey guys what do your GPUs idle at? I'm setting here with a web browser, speedfan, and dreamweaver open and it's idling at 65c with the fans audible. I've got the 6990m.

I do have an external monitor plugged in.

    Edit:

My temps drop 10c without the external monitor. This seems like WAY too much change for just a second display.

Using an external monitor forces the GPU to run above idle clocks, thus the higher temps.

    As stated above:
One of drawbacks of ATI GPU comparing to NVidia GPU is that when you connect an external monitor, the temperature rises.
NVidia is known to handle this better, but do correct me if I'm wrong :)

I believe both AMD and Nvidia GPU's raise their clocks with a second monitor. The temps shouldn't go up by much, but I think that you are correct in that the Nvidia cards go up slightly less. In general, the Nvidia models also manage lower power consumption and heat at idle than their AMD counterparts.

Ive got a 6990m w/ ICD7 in my p8150 and it doesnt seem to run especially hot playing on my brother's LCD TV (running Skyrim on Ultra). Looked fantastic to me (but I may just have low standards). I can give you my exact temp increase later if you're interested.

Ill add that it absolutely does not increase my temp by 10C, or anything close to that.

Hooked up my G53SW with a 460M in it to my father's 46" flatscreen HDTV via HDMI and played Skyrim on high settings without ever going over 75 C :D

More than likely it'll be the same for the NP8150, the 6990 uses more energy but I can't imagine an external screen causing any issues. :)

I just played some skyrim on ultra and temps were 75 celsius. A second monitor doesn't increase temps for gaming, just increases temps for idle.

In fact skyrim only added 10c to my temps over an empty desktop. :p

Ok, my bad. For some reason I assumed you also had the temp increase when playing. Im curious if Id have the same temperature bump from using a monitor just on idle.

How do you find skyrim does on your setup on ultra in terms of fps? I find mine can dip down to 30 or even a bit lower in some areas, but there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason (for example, sometimes in huge fights it'll stay close to 40, then dive with nothing around).

Im new to all this optimization stuff, so im trying to figure out what I can do to get the most out of my comp. Tried some of the guides on here, but some of the changes made my system unstable, so i reverted all of them.

Weird, I was just reading an article on how to lower temps when you have a second monitor plugged in. Apparently this is a driver issue that Nvidia has addressed before: Dual Monitor Power-Saving Mode (Nvidia cards) Fix

I just tried it at work (where I have an external monitor hooked up) and my GTX 460M temps went from 57C down to 46C :D

Well I figured something out that works.

If you install MSI afterburner you can set up clock speed profiles.

I created two profiles, one with the sliders as low as they'd go, one with them as high as they'd go.

Normally you could associate a profile with 2d\3d mode, but half the problem is that the AMD drivers assume dual monitors = 3d mode, so that doesn't help.

What I ended up doing instead was binding my low-clock profile to ctrl+f1, and my high-clock profile to ctrl+f2. This way I can force my laptop into low-clock mode for doing desktopy stuff and enjoy silent-running.

When I'm reading for gaming I just hit ctrl+f2 and I'm back in full performance mode.

I found this a much better option than hacking the bios on the card, which was the only other alternative I've seen presented.

In an unrelated question, does anyone elses fans seem to pulse a little bit in fn+1 mode? Every 2-3 seconds I hear them slow down for half a second, then speed back up. It's a very regular reduction in speed.

@Patyrn, I think that is regular, I've heard a lot of P150HM users have reported that fan pulsing.

@jaug1337, no problem! I am glad I ran over that little tip too. I think people in the general NBR Sager/Clevo forum might like it but since I'm a reseller I can't make a new thread :(

My P150HM stopped posting this morning. After trying a bunch of different things and a quick Google search, I'm out of ideas other than to post here for assistance. Here's the story, long post follows:

About 5 hours ago, my wife had the laptop on our bed using it on battery for about 10 minutes. The battery had about 90% charge. She closed the lid (power profile is set to sleep when the lid is closed on battery) and gave it to me to take to work. When I got here, I didn't pull it out until of my bag until about 2 hours ago. I plugged in the power adapter into the back of the laptop, plugged in 2 USB devices, and then plugged the power adapter into a surge protector. When I opened the laptop lid, the blue power light was on but the screen was dark. After a few seconds the blue light went out. I pressed the power button again and the light came on again, you could hear the blu-ray drive seek for a second, and then it went out again; repeated several times.

I was getting worried, so I tried removing the battery, this time pressing and holding the power button did nothing! I unplugged and re-plugged in the power adapter but without the battery. I tried the power button again and nothing... I waited about a minute, tried again, this time the power light came on and the blu-ray drive made noise for a second, but then it went out again; repeated. I noted the two indicator lights on the front were both light yellow. The AC front light turns green when the blue power light is on, but immediately goes back to yellow when it went out

My next step was to pull the SSD and the Blu-Ray player. Same problem.

With all the peripherals out, I tried with the battery in/out, with the battery in but no A/C, etc. When the battery is in by itself, the power light never comes on at all. When AC is plugged in with or without the battery, the light will come on for about 2 seconds and then goes out. Nothing ever displays, no sound except for a click of static in the speakers when the light goes out. I tried a different outlet, this time I noticed the front indicator lights don't turn on for about 60 seconds after I plug in the A/C.

Since I've been trying the other outlet, it doesn't turn on at all now. The Power adapter shows the blue light, I must assume it's working. The 2 lights on the front stay solid yellow about a minute or so after it's plugged in, both go out when it's unplugged and one goes out when the battery is removed.

Looks like I've got a 6.8 lb brick right now, should I really go as crazy as removing the CPU/RAM and re-seating/re-pasting? Is there anything else I can check before I have to contact Malibal for repairs?

    Operon,

Two suggestions you could try. First, remove the AC adapter and battery and then press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. This will perform a power drain so if your computer is stuck in some sort of weird power state it will get rid of it.

Second, there is no need to reseat and repaste your CPU, however, I would highly suggest reseating the RAM. The RAM would be the most likely culprit in this case since the RAM will be responsible for holding your information in that suspended mode after you close the lid. Try the first method above, and if it doesn't work, try reseating the RAM.

Could this be the source of the problem? I have friends who have had their lappys on their bed with nothing hard underneath, and they get dangerously hot in a matter of minutes. Sorry to hear about this. Hope it is sorted out quickly!

I highly doubt that this is the problem. Yes it will be hotter but not to the point that it will get broken :)

On a soft surface, the vents (in and out) can be blocked, thus causing overheating. Combined with the lid closed and then in a bag, there is a minimal air flow, and overheating is THE ENEMY of any computer. It is not always how long it overheats, it can very well be how hot it gets, even for a short time. Blocked vents preventing air flow pushing the temps to over
100c can and will fry hardware. Do not discount what wind said.

That's so funny, the EXACT same thing happened to me last Sunday. I turned it on and the blue power light would stay on for a couple of seconds and then everything will turn off with a little "click" sound. I tried messing with the HDD and RAM but still no luck. I contacted Malibal and they said they would send me the shipping details on Monday.

I've heard only good things about Malibal from this forum and I think I should not be too quick to judge but here's the story. I sent it in on Monday, they received it on Wednesday and I told them to update me when they received it and nothing. Then today (Friday) I called them asking them about the status and they said they were going to email me back in an hour but no one emailed me. Then finally I emailed them and they said it just arrived into RMA today. Anyone has any experience with what the typical Malibal turn around time is like?

No, it does not have support for HDMI input or ARC. The only way to input audio or video would be through an external capture card (or the audio line-in if it's just the audio you want)

I've never seen anything unusual. There's a small spike to maybe 10% when it's starting, but it's a fairly light program and you should settle back to almost no CPU usage at all. Are you sure you're not seeing a spike due to Anti-virus software or something else running in the background?
