Just a reminder... Sager has said that the NVIDIA 580M has been discontinued on this model.

Just wanted to give a big shoutout to everyone on here. I didn't post much but read everything before deciding on the p151hm, and ended up getting it 'upgraded' to a p150hm.

Loving it so far, and just plan on an ssd eventually. Only complaint would be the sound card, but I guess that's somewhat remedied with powered speakers. Thanks again for all the info folks

If they are not damaged you shouldn't have to replace them, so base your decision on their condition.

i really cant see a picture of the thermal pads in the manual. do they only cover the gpu memory (which has a seperate heatsink)? if so, is it possible to remove the only the gpu heatsink as to avoid damaging the thermal pads when changing tim's

Hey all, just wanted to chime in here, as my Sager 8150 recently arrived. Just for kicks I downloaded and ran the free version of 3DMark11 after installing a couple other items. I haven't updated any drivers or anything yet, and the benchmark came back with a score of 3563. Is this any good considering the specs?

In any case, it'll certainly be more enjoyable than lugging my whole desktop around for LAN parties like prior... I can't wait to test the system out with some gaming come this weekend.

I would have to compare your score with some of ours here. What version of 3DMark11 are you running? Vantage or Advanced? If it is advanced, your score should be spot on. You may want to update your GPU drivers to the latest, 12.1 I believe for your ATI graphics card. The updated graphics drivers can help to bump your score a bit higher if they are not currently up to date.

Your specs look great! What games are you planning on running? And yes, lugging around a laptop to LAN parties is MUCH better than hauling around a desktop...with monitors, keyboard, etc.

That's a pretty typical score for a 6990m equipped model. You can check here for some average benchmarks:

I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a P150HMx with the specs:

    i5 2430M
    500GB HD
    4GB RAM
    GTX 560M 1.5GB

thing is: i've bought two ram sticks to upgrade the laptop to 8gb (came with 1x4GB) when i went to add the new ram, i was only able to add one stick of 2GB. With both new sticks inserted, i get a black screen at boot, wont even show bios logo.. with 6gb its fine, but with 8gb i cant boot :( both rams are working because ive already tested on another notebook and also one by one.. both sticks also are the same brand and specs as the one that came with the laptop..

    thanks a lot!

The i5-2430M will only support 2 pieces of memory, and they have to be in the correct slots. Two slots will work with it, and the other two won't. So if you bought 2x 2GB and add it to 1x 4GB it will only support 2 of the memory sticks. You should buy 1x 4GB, and put it in the same slot that you currently have the 2GB piece that it sees to make 6GB.

I see you took one step more in improving your temps in your laptop. I remember before you never did try replacing the stock thermal paste application in your laptop knowing that Sager does it "horribly".

Regarding the thermal pads, if you are really up for performance it is "recommended" to change the thermal pads every time you remove the heatsink but that is just not practical, so as long as the pads are intact and they are not damaged you can get away by putting them back.

    Hope that helps.

Not really, the temps were always fine. But a few days ago I put my laptop to sleep and packed it into my backpack. Unfortunately it didn't go to sleep, and the laptop was hot.
Noticed the temps rise during stress test so I had to change the paste. I'm still lucky though that nothing was damaged.

That isn't the reason why your temps are rising during stress test. The simple reason is that the stock application by Sager is just not good. Even though temps "were" fine for you in the past, the stock application is still isn't right. I reapplied thermal paste on almost all my Sager laptops (including my NP8130 right now) and always saw that the TIM is too much.

Dude they were fine before, and I did do the tests before. And I did notice the temperature get higher than usual even on normal usage and gaming.
But I do agree that Sager tends to apply too much paste. However in my case that wasn't the reason for increased temps.

because it's a 8130 not a 8150, as far as I know the 580m isn't meant to be with that power supply, but good question, why not upgrade the processor?

just curious, wouldn't you be better off with such a laptop with a better processor? im confused

I actually don't need a higher processor for just a laptop since I use it mainly for mobile purposes and seldom gaming on it.

And no, the price-performance of a desktop is very practical compared to that of a laptop and the overclocking capability of desktops is enormous. Having a desktop and a laptop is what suits my purpose, for me it's better to have two than spend money on a very high-end laptop. To each his own :)

good choice imho, if performance with mobility arent your particular needs, youre choice of desktops plus laptop gives you the best of both worlds for a fairly reasonable price. gald youre back here in nbr.

    Hello good P150HM owners,

I am just in the process of purchasing a P150HM and could not be more excited. I have been longing for a gaming laptop for years but just could not bring myself to spending that kind of money on a computer until I found Clevo and could get the specs I wanted for a justifiable price. I cannot wait to try this machine and just needed to vent some of my energy through sharing my excitement.

Looks like Sager counted on earlier shipping dates from Clevo and now orignal Clevo botique shops like Mythlogic will be the only ones that can ship for quite a few weeks with Sager branded shops having no stock left and only taking pre orders for the new models, which are not ready for shipping before sometime in April.

I seem to recall a thread last year about someone asking for the dimensions of the bottom of the laptop (ie: fan/vent placement measurements) but I can't find it..

I was thinking of designing a lap desk/cooler over the summer.

I didn't even realize it got phased out. I placed my order on Monday night and they still had it, must have been phased out the next day.

At any rate, I'm excited to also be a soon to be owner of the Sager8150.

    Welcome nikeair112!
There is tons of info here, I learn new stuff all the time too!
Did you order your comptuer just now or a few days ago. Only reason I asked is they've been recently phased out and are tough if not impossible to get.

just thought I should introduce myself, new to the boards, had my P150hm for a year now.

P150 is an unbranded clevo, this I admit was a selling point, no branding is boss, that plus branded lappy's with similar specs were at least 1k over what i paid.

    basic specs are
    2720[@stock]
    2x4Gb DDR3 mushkin @1600 9-9-9-28[upgraded, not factory]
GTX 485m[@stock, lol no need to OC this beast]
    seagate maximus 500Gb

have had a few issues but nothing I couldn't overcome. till now, just under a month out of factory/reseller warranty i'm having what i've come to suspect are HDD issues, I plan on reading through the threads to see if my symptoms pop up with anyone else, if not I guess i'll be back begging for help, ha, no really begging.

but I guess now that i am out of warranty, i'd like to do some bios work etc, see what I can do to get this beast back to it's former glory.
