@Prema
I was wondering how I can obtain the EC firmware fix for the keyboard freeze on starting windows?

It'll be remote flashed to your system, alongside Intel's next attempt on fixing Spectre.Last edited: Jan 29, 2018Donald@Paladin44, SirSaltsAlot, wtjwillis and 3 others like this.

Shouldn't we leave Spectre thingy there instead of trying to fix it by slowing down our systems though?
This is a legitimate question, it should be impossible for this type of attack to affect anyone if not targeted, as far as my understanding goesDonald@Paladin44 likes this. -
Once Intel has a new recommended code base it'll be part of Mod and probably also pushed by MS onto the user via OS.
In case someone wants to use an older vulnerable code they can still do so by manual override via OS code injection methods.

@Johnksss @Prema @Mr. Fox @Phoenix
So I was able to test my laptop at a stable clock of the following:
CPU @ 5.1Ghz (x51 multiplier)
RAM @ 3200Mhz (Thanks Johnksss for the settings)
GPU Memory @ 5.8Ghz (+810Mhz via afterburner)
GPU Core @ 2Ghz (+175Mhz via afterburner)
I was able to reliably push 30K+ with 3DMark FireStrike V1.1, however, I couldn't get past 30480 because of the following (I think):
1. GPU Core clock (I cant get it to stabilize past +175Mhz/2Ghz), which I believe provides most increase in performance for 3D mark tests.
2. CPU Clock @ 5Ghz (I couldn't get it to stabilize modifying only the multiplier beyond X51)
3. CPU temps are approaching 90C even with the HVT cooler, GPU temps dont seem to go beyond 80, leaving more room for overclocking on the GPU.
Tests are made with Windows 10 Pro latest edition/ Prema Mod Bios
I appreciate all tips to obtain higher results!

I unlocked and flashed mine with a programmer.
@Prema is working on a few things having to do with vbios, but....
As to the rest. I can't really speak on that.Last edited: Jan 30, 2018Donald@Paladin44 and Commandor like this. -

No, but make sure the power is off and not in standby or sleep mode.Donald@Paladin44 and Georgel like this.

This is not always possible with all computers. It just happens to be easier in this case.

Would i be able to get your settings in xtu or throttle stop. I dont have the pleasure of premamod bios unfortunately. Id like to get it at 4.7 ghz and maybe undervolt. With 3000mhz mem as im using corsair memory and its only getting 2666mhz. Gpu not pushing it as it isnt neededCommandor likes this.

I got my settings through @Johnksss, My memory card are RipJaws DDR4-3200, so I dont think the settings would apply to your modules, however if you want to use them at your risk then you can just check Jphnksss earlier post HERE.
For the CPU I left everything Dynamic in PremaBios (as their yielded best stability for me) and played wth the multiplier only. To make it easy and simple. However tweakers here can help you tweak your CPU with the stock bios.Last edited: Jan 31, 2018JCordero31, Johnksss and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

Unless you have modern chips going to 3200mhz is going to be a challenge.

Ty i appreciate any help. Without premabios i feel it will be a hard accomplishment but im going to try my best. Ty for you help though.

I have the corsair 32gb (2 sets for total 64gb) at 3000mhz chips it has the xmp profile but it seems do to the limitation of my bios it wont let me unlock its potentials even in windows.

I'm getting one of those as well now.
P870TM1
Most probably from Clevo Center because they have a good price and are a Prema partner from Europe.
Will describe everything in the process in detail as things go on -
I can confirm that replacing the keyboard does not get rid of the issue with the keyboard not working in the OS
-
Yeah, it's a software issue. I got it too man. A few of us here do.
Should be seeing an update from HID in the near future to correct this I believe. -
I figured as much. I'm just posting so everybody else knows. More information can't hurt.
-
how does one control rbg and where can i download the software for it?
-
Not a prema partner but PCS are the cheapest in Europe I think.
-
Who is PCS?
Also, a large reason for picking Clevo Center is going like this:
+ I need the laptop for my company, so I can buy it for my company with some tax cuts (as this is the EU law)
+ That makes them cheaper than any non-EU shops from the start
+ I haven't noticed any other European Prema Partner shops who might have this type of offer, there are the nordic guys, but they didn't mention this on their site as far as I can tell
+ Shipping to within EU is flat 50 EUR, cheaper than any non-EU shop, further making Clevo Center good priced for EU
+ I spoke around one hour with Clevo Center and with HID before, both are great in PR and offer a lot of help
+ Clevo Center is a Prema Partner shop
A few personal minuses at this moment.
- I have no idea how good the machine comes from CC at this moment, how good the thermals are, but they seem to apply a fair amount of treatment for proper thermals, including delidding and polishing of the heatsink surface, so it evens out, at least in theory
- I never ordered from them before, so I really don't know much. Seems to be a very well-renowned shop in Portugal tho
+/- another European seller that I studied is Obsidian. They are friendly and most definitely trustable, but no Prema BIOS at this moment. They are second in my list at this moment
+/- if I were in USA, I'd probably also consider HIDevolutin / import and shipping from USA to USA would make them a good deal there. -
There from UK so any eu tax break would apply.
There's no prema bios.
I got a 8700k and 1080 SLI for less than €3500 which i couldnt find anywhere cheaper.
I wanted to go with HID but was worried about the distance if it needed returning.
So far I'm very happy with it and the temps are great I never see more than around 70c on any part. -
What is the site name? I wasn't able to find them via google search....

Pc specialist
They label it the vortex but it's the last one on there list.
They don't have as many options as most but for the maxed out 870 there price is good.Georgel likes this. -
Only dual 1080 available, no heatisnk lapping (to make it shiny), no Delid, no Prema Partner shop... The price is really good only if you were planning to go full dual 1080 from the start, otherwise it is a really poor price from my perspective, as I can only use 1 GPU for 99.9% of appsraz8020 likes this.

PC Specialist don't have the best rep for customer service or putting their units together with care. But they are cheap, so there's your usual swings and roundabouts

According to throttlestop I'm unable to get my package power above 123.7W. It is also giving me a limit reason of VR CURRENT. This, I believe, is severely hampering my efforts to get a decently high OC. Is there a setting in the bios where I can change this limit? I have the Prema bios.

Hello everyone. I just read through all 129 pages. I am 100% certain that this is the laptop for me. I was hoping to get some advice on my build before I ordered for HIDEvolution. I am building a laptop for intense gaming, and I was hoping to make it as "future proof" as possible. I have a reasonably large budget (as expected for someone looking at this beast) but obviously I do not want to spend more than is advisable or necessary. Thank you all for your help you've already given (all 129 pages of it!) and looking over my build.

It can actually depend on what you do if dual channel is going to make much of a difference

Can you please give some examples of in what applications dual channel would make a difference, and in what applications it would it not make a difference?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Is some good reading to get you started. There are a lot of articles from decent sources should people want to read up on it and do a search in google.
Normally I would break something down if nothing obvious came up in the first 5 or so hits in google.
KNOWING there is something to look at is what most people don't think of in this case. -

that says it all! Plus, anyone using Single Channel in this day and age, no matter what their workflow is, is being dumb. Period! There is absolutely no reason to use single channel when making dual channel is as easy as either upgrading to another module of the same memory or if cost is an issue, replacing that big module when buying by 2 smaller ones of half the capacity. It's as simple as that and there is no excuse for not doing it. I can feel the overall system snappiness go significantly up when in dual channel let alone benchmarks and games.DreDre, kfxsti and Donald@Paladin44 like this. -

Your desktop work flow is likely to be a placebo effect. Some games do stress the memory more and two is more ideal. You do get 4 slots so two lower ones still is likely sensible at this level.

Do you think the Samsung 960 EVO 500GB for $290 or the Samsung 960 PRO 512GB for $390 would be a better bang for my buck, so to speak? Is the Pro with 12 GB more and faster speeds worth the extra $100?Donald@Paladin44 likes this.

I have always preffered ssd's with MLC nand (see 960 pro). They are more workstation-focused product (heavy prolonged workflow).

Excellent advice, @Papusan , those are much better, to the point where I wouldn't even cosider purchasing something that isn't MLC at least (this is why I'm keeping my XTi SSD, MLC beauty)
Anything that is not MLC at least, if not SLC, should only be considered for gamers and for not keeping any important data there.Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -

Most users will be better off with a larger tlc drive than a smaller mlc drive. Their system will be obsolete by a couple of decades before it dies.
