FN + D is so convenient in times like these.

@FastMover I also recommend unscrewing the keyboard screw and creating a pull tab using tape, keyboard is held very tightly by magnets but with a pull tab you can easily remove to do maintenance.

Clevo taking a goddamn epoch to get things sent to resellers is the unfortunate reality that ALL resellers face when deciding what (and how much of their money) they have sitting on their shelves in spare parts and customisation options.

I'm a bit surpriced, since they are not a small company.

    Market cap:

    Clevo: $20 Billions
    HP: $27 Billions
    Dell: $57 Billions
    MSI: $86 Billions

Check the currency. HP and Dell are in USD, Clevo and MSI are in TWD, which currently has an exchange rate of around 1TWD to 0.034USD

    Thanks, good point!!!!

Meaning that Clevo Market Cap is around $0.7 Billions and MSI is around $3 billions...

Now I think they are pretty small compared to Dell or HP, and that explain some things.

    Clevo: $0.7 Billions
    MSI: $3 Billions
    HP: $27 Billions
    Dell: $57 Billions

    Some prime95 benchmarks - with AVX on/off

I think the temperatures are pretty decent based on the "stock" HIDevolution overclock of 4.8GHz. It'll be rare for most users to utilize anything AVX-related. Even under CPU throttle - it just goes back to Intel stock speeds of 3.7GHz which isn't so bad.

AIDA64 starts thermal throttling with CPU + FPU + cache with max fans after 5 seconds of starting it. Anyone experience this similar thing under a 4.8GHz overclock? Mine is -120mv adaptive offset.

But anyways - not going to worry too much about temps at this time. Best to just enjoy the "desktop" beast. When I purchased the P870DM 2 years ago, I was expecting to use it for 5+ years, but then upgraded to P870TM1 just recently :D

Not only rare to stress AVX but to combine that with a small FFT torture test load ;)

HP and Dell make Enterprise hardware, I would say that most of those values come from the enterprise divisions, where selling servers for a million a pop is a daily occurrence..

I got bored one day and decided to look for some things I could do to improve the cooling and or comfort of my notebook. I came across some folding feet for notebooks and keyboards. After using them for a while I have noticed that the temps have dropped slightly and the fans don't ramp up as often. They seem sturdy enough to hold the weight of the notebook. I also removed the two pieces of plastic that block a good portion of the ventilation on the bottom. Are there any other simple mods that can be done to improve temps?

It tends to be the first thing that is recommended, it allows the fans to draw air more easily so more airflow.

Speaking of airflow, are the 3000rpm noctua fans better than the 3000rpm EK fans? I'm going to be upgrading my U3 with better fans soon.

    I have both,

EK fans are better but somewhat louder.

Noctua can be more silent in some variations, but EK tends to push the most air and provide the most effective cooling as far as I tested

I noticed an interesting pixel on my P870TM1 screen. I was wondering if it's a dead pixel? It may be hard to see it in the picture, but if you zoom out a bit, you'll be able to see something... Probably easier to see it in person..

    Some things I've tried:
    1) Getting a microfiber cloth and rubbing it
    2) Rub the affected area in circles with light pressure

Result: That dot is still there.

Edit: Stuck pixel maybe? Not sure what to label it.

When doing a CPU stress test with P870TM1 (ie. running Blender), does it take a while for the fans to speed up? I find that I need to manually set the fans to max (Fn + 1) during the test because the fans seem slow to respond.

Just wanting to make sure :)

Do they go turbo when the fans start? It seems that when the GPU gets hot as well, then the fan will start going fast after a few seconds. But when CPU is hot only then it still spins up at a low RPM. Do you have CCC installed? If yes, what version? I don't have CCC installed.

The fans gradually speed up until temps are stabilized. If the gpu is also being taxed then it gets kinda loud, but I'm pretty sure the cpu fan isn't actually spinning that fast. I do not have CCC installed.

My new Furious Vardar EVOs for my U3 came in today. They are replacing my 3000rpm NF-F12s since those are going into another build. One thing I noticed right away is that they can spin much slower than the NF-F12s. They are slightly louder but have a lower pitched tone compared the the Noctuas. 20180519_142339_HDR.jpg

I found out several years ago that the fastest way to get items from USA is using a Chilean delivery company that recieves the item in Miami. Then they ship the item by air, the item arrives to Chile in two or three days. That same company deals with Chilean customs pay all taxes for me and then then they send me the bill, all that take like 2 or 3 days more. So from HIDevolution's point of view I'm an American customer.

At the of the day it takes like 5 business days for the item to get shipped to Chile once the laptop is received in Miami. I've tried different solutions: USPS Global Express, FedEx, UPS, and they all get stuck in Chilean customs like for 1 or 2 weeks wich is really annoying. Only this Chilean delivey company called Chilexpress get the item pass through customs really fast.

You'll probably want to know what OS and what LCD type/makeup ( glossy vs. matte; Full HD, QHD, or QFHD; etc. ) to get a better understanding of what the responses may be.

So it seems that my idle temps on my SLI 1080s have been steadily increasing.

When she was first unboxed, they were in the low 50s even high 40s at idle. Now, she sits around 61c at idle.

At full bore, 4k Res ultra settings with ME:Andromeda meander around 79c with an undervolt via Afterburner.

Without an undervolt, OCed to 2030Mghz I peak at 90C and hover around 86C.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

The delta between when I received the unit to now, in regards to ambient, is like 2-3c max.

It's not rising ambient. I move the system a lot. And I'm wondering if the LM may have slipped a bit

    Dust?

I have had this rig for like 2 weeks. If dust built up in that time, I'm in for some hurt.

I suspect it's a combination of ambient riseing and position of the notebook

Did you use foam dams on those GPUs? (Foam dams are to be used in COMBINATION with either Super 33+ tape / Kapton tape, or with nail polish coats over the SMD resistors.
The foam dams are to stop the LM from shifting and running out onto the PCB, because tape by itself will not keep conductive balls of doom stationary in place.

I suggest you check the LM application.

You should be using 1mm thick HIGHLY COMPRESSIBLE FOAM for foam dams, like this:
(the far right one is the GPU cutout one trimmed down to 1mm thickness; other three are BGA, far left is the untrimmed 3mm thickness one, which I recommend trimming on any low contact pressure heatsink).

What's your GPU undervolt? I undervolt mine to 912mv and my idle temps hover around high 30's/low 40's on auto fan. Same for my CPU.

I purchased this bag here: https://www.ebags.com/product/everk...184-laptop-backpack/277313?productid=10313019

The laptop fits very well in the bag. If you're a taller/bigger person, then it should look okay. I have a small frame, so the backpack looks very big on me.

eBags usually have 20-30% off coupons, so you can snatch it for $130-150ish usually. If you have an AMEX credit card, then they usually give you cash back for bigger savings.

Quality is good - I don't have any issues yet after owning it for 2 years. The backpack is very comfortable due to its padding. I can fit in my P870TM1 + 2 15'' inch laptops like a Thinkpad in there. Of course that gets pretty heavy . I put in my 2 AC Adapters for P870TM1 in there with no issues. If you got a strong back, then it should be fine. For a weak back, I don't recommend it as it can get heavy with a monster laptop in there.

The Belkin slim 17" for me does a good job at the moment. But I don't need to carry much else with the notebook.

I use an LL Bean Quad. Fits the laptop and charger along with a few text books. Even has a compartment I use exclusively for my 60% keyboard.
