Well. That wasn't a particularly helpful video. Too many unknowns...
Was it purchased new? If so, what warranty? Purchased from??
Being a 2 yr old P870DM3 in his care and the model has been out a while longer, maybe the dood bought it used? If so, what background and assurances were made by the reseller? Did the previous owner cause the damage?

Smokes around it and never cleaned it once most likely.
Also he has taken it apart himeself and damaged the thermal pads and not used the right screwdriver head and stripped the screws.
Should have called support. -
Are the internals for Phoenix 5 is different from Phoenix 4 ? Just wanted to confirm. I am wondering if waiting for 2080 with only a meagre boost in performance but a couple of hundreds costlier is something to wait for or should I go ahead with 1080 right away. I am not looking for the latest and greatest but am sure looking for possible upgradeability.
I am also wondering if after the 2080 series, the very next one will have an mxm connector or will even the single gpu connector change. If it will change then maybe will go with 2080 else 1080 is good enough. Any advise please. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you can wait the 2080 will be worth it IMO.
-
Worth it how ? The estimate is it will cost 1.5 times or twice for a 15 percent gain above 1080 isn't it?
-
I have a 8700K + 2x 1080 SLI. I plan to skip 9900K + 2080 upgrade since the laptop may get too hot and I game on 1080p 144Hz. My laptop will generally sit between 50-70 C / 60-85 C for CPU/GPU depending on the game.
I would like to see 9900 + 2080 temps when it's out
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's good to get you through for now really
-
Meaker please share some insight into this question !
-
Given the current price of a MXM 1080.. and some of the issues that happened with founders cards. 1.5-2x the price of a aging $1k +- a few dollars nets me at a hell no situation.
The 9900k I could see , maybe. But given my current temps on my 8700k. And how well my 870tm1-g handles Warframe and Bf5 currently. I don't know that I'd jump ship for something as such as 15% (give or take) and RayTracing.
I'm not saying I won't be shickled tittless if it butt-plunders a clevo 1080 , I just don't know that it's worth the extra cost. Hell, you can technically buy a crapbook for what a MXM 1080 is currently going for still.
Give me a 1080ti MXM variant and I'll buy the **** out of it lol. Here's hoping Intel's coming gpu will bring forth the ruckus and push the GPU boundaries out wider.
After thinking about it more. Doesn't MXM have a TDP or wattage standard ? Meaning that the 15% "performance increase" would be taken away due to having to stay with the MXM allowance? @Meaker@Sager @Papusan -
Wait for the final prices. And none yet know the performance numbers. None say the prices will be 50% higher on coming laptops due Turing graphics. Just wait and see. Up to yooo.
$1000 for 2080 mobile 2080 isn't worse than it was for Pascal and Maxwell (N) Mobile top dog
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-2019.826781/page-12#post-10848833
Turing (2080) will have 150w. Some advertice with +30w aka 180w for Rtx 2080 Mobile. No point in speculate before the cards is out.
If some say +-15% increase in performance... Have they 100% proof? Nope!Last edited: Jan 15, 2019raz8020, Falkentyne, kfxsti and 1 other person like this. -
Is 2 years from a 1080 under medium use bad? Think one or both of mine are dead and it's only 2 years old.
If it has then its not a very long time for the investment of the laptop imo. -
Do u mean the previous two top models cost a 1000 dollars? From what I remember they were around 750 dollars on all reseller sites (lower if got them on a deal if bought solo) and both easily had 30-40% better performance than the previous best ( higher for 980gtx if I remember correctly). The 2080 will cost 300 dollars more and offer 13-29% gains (from what I see from some youtube benchmarkers for the desktop gpu).So did u mean those numbers are ok to spend that extra in them ?
Another question just to confirm. Are the gtx1080 mobile cards, 200 W cards ? If so , I wonder how 150 or 180w cards ie the RTX 2080 mobile would be able to beat them when already tdp restricted . I am asking about the p870tm of course ! -
From what I remember. The Mobile 980 (N) desktop was up to $1350 if not more. Same for 1080. Don’t mix it up with etc the weaker 980M MXM cards which cost a lot less.
Nvidia have put 150w for RTX 2080 Mobile. And from 80W for the 2080 Max-Q Scam.
Up to you what you want to spend. But 2080 will hold longer. Wait for real results.Last edited: Jan 16, 2019 -
Its very simple first decide what you want, second when you want and third pay the amount if you like otherwise you will never find everything according to you which match your list.

I wonder how a single 2080 will compare to SLI 1080
Enviado desde mi G8441 mediante Tapatalk -

It gets slaughtered when SLI is working properly. -
Frametimes will be better for a 2080 over 1080 SLI, and you will get a performance boost in every game rather than only the ones which support SLI. If the 2080 overclocks nicely i'd say its a better buy than 1080 SLI, but who knows for sure? Its a shame Clevo/Nvidia didn't come up with any way to get NVLink working as i'm sure the P870 chassis can handle the power draw/heat etc.
-
yrekabakery Notebook Virtuoso
Frametimes will be higher but more consistent, that's always the case with single GPU vs. multi-GPU. But overclocking or not, there's just no way 1x150W RTX 2080 can sniff the raw performance of 2x190W GTX 1080 when an application utilizes both GPUs.Ashtrix, Papusan, bennyg and 1 other person like this. -
I hope you read what @Papusan wrote here ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ounge-phoenix-4.809589/page-282#post-10849268) a little while ago related to the mentioned wattage and also not sure if you have checked Nvidia's site for desktop Gpus but what I see is the following.
GEFORCE GTX 1080 : https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/products/10series/geforce-gtx-1080/
Thermal and Power Specs:
94 degrees Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)
180 W Graphics Card Power (W)
500 WRecommended System Power (W)4
8-Pin
GEFORCE RTX 2080 : https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/graphics-cards/rtx-2080/
Thermal and Power Specs:
88 degrees Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)
215W Graphics Card Power (W)

Supplementary Power Connectors: 6 pin + 8 pin -
Don't compare Mobile with pure desktop cards...
Nvidia gimp (castrate) on everything they touch on for Notebooks. See the progress from Mobile 980 (N) and up until now. Nvidia adopt its tech for today's thin and flimsy Jokes. A downward spiral. Max-Q ain't enough. Must Cripple the real Mobile models as well.
Last edited: Jan 17, 2019 -
This being the case why would we want to get a 150 W laptop RTX 2080 card instead of the 180 W ( or 200 W) 1080 ?
-
None say we want 150w cards. The power gimped 2080 Max-Q will perform over or beside 200w 1080 (N) Mobile. See this is the crippled version. You shouldn't think or belive lower TDP vs. previous gen means equal or less performance (newer gen cards will perform better).
Edit. RTX 2080 Max-Q from 80W TDP

In rasterization, I very much doubt that. Given that Turing barely moved the efficiency needle forward in terms of perf/W, 80W = ~200W is a fantasy. -
I expect 2080 Max-Q come in more than the worst crippled 80w variant. How crippled... This is up to the notebook manufacturer. Nvidia wash their hands and have given them some guidelines they have to follow. The end results doesn't really matter.
-
As long as the 2080 has the same core specs as the desktop card and a solid enough VRM, it should be possible to TDP mod the card in the same way we did with Pascal @Falkentyne . Hopefully Nvidia didn't do anything more to stop us flashing a new vBIOS though, and it sucks that such modding is necessary in the first place.
-
Will it be possible to replace the 1080 for 2080 or is it not confirmed yet?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well HID are selling it in the machine so there's that
-
Are they the same laptop though? They have a slightly different model number to mine.
-
Dunno for sure when he mentions graphics settings he means basic presets as well as RTX, and it's not a standardised benchmark run of course, but comparing the fps numbers to desktop they look at best close to the desktop 2060... I say "at best", because that's if the captured footage is actually all at the ultra preset - which given his comments on bad visuals I don't think is the case - it needs low preset/low RTX to get the same ~70fps which puts it well below a desktop 2060
What on earth will be the point of having rtx in the 2060, 2060maxQ, and 2070 maxQ if this is what the top MaxQrippled can do?Last edited: Jan 17, 2019 -

The model line is EOL from Clevo given the lack of SLI on the mobile rtx cards. -
Do we know anything about? Regarding cooling or internal design?
I'm torn to either repair mine or get rid and swap to msi. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It will be identical AFAIK should be plenty for a single card.
Anyone else been playing with uncertified G-sync on external displays? It has been working well on my Samsung
-
So I was informed yesterday that clevo or invidia have stopped doing mobile sli so my only option is single 1080 or sli 1080 or single 2080 if clevo release a bios update.
Not sure if there's any truth to it and I'm still not sure what to do. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Nvidia have dropped support for SLI over the traditional connector as the chip is now designed to use NVlink. There is no mobile standard for Nvlink over a connector.
-
Yes, I see, and I completely understand about the need to wait for any official information.
Has there been any official information released yet?
I heard a rumer that the next motherboard revision will be the following:
6-77-P870TM00-D01revEOL
-
Has anyone heard of the SourNinja Dual Wield external GPU project that uses a PCI Express 3.0 x16 to MXM 3 adapter with riser? I wonder if it's just bull sh*t scam.
If it's not a scam, I would be interested in something that will allow for use of the RTX 2080 TI as an eGPU in the future. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well it would be 8x in our model, but it's possible just there are issues with the ECU expecting certain sensor data and it not being massively practical.
-
Anyone in the line for getting the p870TM-R ? What are your expectations and what are your worries about the machine? I am wondering if the machine will have any headroom for the cpu to go above 4.3 / 4.4 Ghz and whether the GPU has any at all before the machine becomes a toaster for cooking food. This of course after delidded undervolted and LM applied machines as sold by hid etc.
-
Since RTX 2080 have lower TDP than GTX 1080 - it might be even cooler than older brother - expect 70-75C with max load for VC cooling solution. About CPU - if any DTR laptop is going to handle i9 9900k properly than it might be only mighty P870xx. If you want top machine - go for this beast

Have an honest question. Now that Alienware has a machine with desktop CPU and upgradeable GPU, why buy Clevo?
Enviado desde mi G8441 mediante Tapatalk -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well it costs a heck of a lot more for one lol
-
People seem to forget this quite often when comparing systems.
Other problems?
- AW does not sell worldwide.
- In Europe, the price of the machine is going to skyrocket fast. Just as comparison, a Dell Precision 7530 costs 3321€ (and this is a special price I got trough a Dell reseller) compared to the 2400€ you can buy them in the US.
Also, there aren't any tests yet, I think it will be better than a P87x and P7xx, but reviews will tell.Arrrrbol likes this. -
No one knows. In my opinion cooling looks not promising. Like it is almost same as of laptops with BGA CPU. Nothing compared to P870TM. Alien probably will be louder/hotter and throttled way down.
Why buy clevo? Because they're well known for minding their own businesses. They wont tell you what to do and how much u have to throttle your machine to run till end of warranty. Dellaware is like father that controls you and tell you exactly what to do, without respecting your own opinion.jclausius likes this.
