Hello guys can somebody please ,of course if they have ,open AIDA64 or any other program that shows complete ,very detail reading about system and look what does is say under wifi card.Does it say only PCI-E or it says M.2 (NGFF) ?
You can look under motherboard ,connection, network ,anywhere, but I believe it is somewhere in motherboard ports or something like that.I will be tonight at home and I will update this post with accurate location where it can be.
I need this for 900X3G thread .We still don't know does 900X3G have PCIe Half Mini Card or M.2 (NGFF).
If it says anywhere for 940X3G that it is M.2 then we can compare readings with 900X3G.
Thank you very much in advance.
-
Hi Unit Igor, actually your question was already answered by B8con4Life just one post before yours.
Actually I too just upgraded the wifi card in my AB+ with this. So it is confirmed - M.2 NGFF version. -
Hey robohgedhang
Thank you for taking time to answer.
So,my question wasn't :does 940X3G have NGFF WIFI ,my question was:
Is M.2 NGFF connection recognized by any software or its still say only PCI-E connection?
If I go in AIDA64 ,for my wifi says its connected to PCI-E connection.
Do you have AIDA64 or anykind of similar software that can see this?
You would help me a lot if we solved this. -
I don't really understand what you mean, but AIDA64, under Devices - PCI Devices - Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 AC 2x2 HMC WiFi Adapter, says "Bus Type :PCI Express 2.0 x1".
However, I am sure that the Intel's 7260 NGW connector is different from the usual connector in my older laptops, say, Samsung Series 7.Unit Igor likes this. -
That stands for Half Mini Card. I wouldn't give too much about it what those programs say.
What does the imprint on the bottom of the notebook say about WifFi? On the non touch model it is labeled "Contains FCC ID: PD7260SD IC: 1000M-7260SD" -
While I have no personal experience with this product, Goo Off FG677 seems to be a well rated product that may help you get some of that residue off. I'd try it on the bottom of the laptop first, to see if it is safe for finish of the laptop.
Goof Off FG677 Super Glue Remover, 4-Ounce - Amazon.com
Let me know how it works if you do end up getting it! seems like a good cheap product to have handy.
-
Yes, my point exactly. I do know that the format of the Intel wifi card is M.2 NGFF (that's why it has NGW) and not the half mini card - I bought the replacement (the AC version) to replace the original (the N version) - and I replaced it myself so I know what it looked like. Different from the usual wifi card that I had in Samsung Series 7.
The imprint on the bottom of the AB9+ says "Contains 7260NGW FCC ID: PD97260NG IC: 1000M-7260NG". -
Hey robo
Yes that was exactly what I meant. Thank you very much.I know 940X3G have NGFF card.It seems AIDA64 cant read it good or Intel didn't bother to tag it right ,which is more likely.
But anyway thank you again. -
Hi Rod,
Confirmed, AB9+ uses the M.2 (NGFF) SATA, the long one. Must be the 2280. I did open my AB9+. Oh, and the Samsung XP941, it should be compatible with the Asus Zenbook UX301LA.
Do you have any plan to carry Toshiba HG6 in 512GB? I have a Crucial M500 M.2 480 GB on the way, but I'm also interested in the Toshiba.
You're welcome Unit Igor

Has anyone swapped their HDD yet? This looks like the right one Crucial M500 960GB 2.5 inch SATA Solid State Drive: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories they make a 480GB too for £200 -
No, that one won't do. Please read RodB's post or my post above.

I would not be so definite about Samsung's statement about possible withdrawal from the notebook market (see this thread for more discussion). There's something strange going on given that their 2013 sales were well down but currently they have various products that people want to buy but are are not available. Is the factory too busy making phones and tablets?
I wouldn't expect any update to the NP940X3G until Intel's Broadwell platform is available by which time Samsung's intentions in the notebook market might be clearer. Depending on what features you are looking for, the NP900X3G (see this thread) might be of interest.

Did anyone recently receive an update for wireless LAN driver?
I saw it a couple of days ago but didn't bother to download it, and now I can't find it on software update. -
I am playing a great game called banished at 3200x1800.
Runs superb at this resolution.
Highly recommended game too
-
Has anyone tried rolling back to Win7 on the AB9+?
-
can someone post the current link to the yellow patch? the older links in the thread no longer work. thanks
-
Is the keyboard bettern in this than it was in the last gen series 9 models (900x3c inparticular)? Is the keyboard as noisy? I mean does the spacebar make a lot more noise than other keys like it does in the 900x3c.
Just got 900x3c and Samsung EVO 250gb SSD few days ago for 1050€, but now I'm thinking if I should send them back and order the i7, 8GB, 250GB SSD model of 940x3g for 1700€

I'm planning to major in computer science and starting term by end of this month. Does anyone know if it's possible to install Linux OS such as unbuntu or Mint on this laptop? (dual boot). I heard something about samsung laptops having some kind of firmware that prevents installing linux a while back. Thank you.
-
Samsung had issues with their UEFI implementation when they first switched from Win7 models (non-UEFI) to Win8 (UEFI). It caused some Linux installations (and even some Windows clean installs) to brick the computer. Samsung was responsive in replacing motherboards when this happened -- in a few cases even out of warranty, although that was rare.
It was covered in the thread linked below, which was quite active late 2012 into early 2013.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/706510-samsung-laptops-bricked-using-uefi.html
Since then, Samsung fixed their UEFI implementation. With the 2013 models we have not had reports of bricking like we had back then. Also, to my understanding, Linux was updated to take Samsung issues into account. Based on reports here (or lack thereof) I believe it is safe to install Linux on these newer models -- although of course I cannot provide any guarantees. Several members use it. -
Thank you for your response Dannemand - I appreciate it, that was quite informative. I will look into it a bit more myself and report back.
-
Yes, please, it's great if you can report back if you find out more -- or even try it yourself on this model. In addition to this thread (being the owners lounge for the AB9+) posting in the UEFI bricking thread is useful, since that is where much reporting on UEFI and Linux has been gathered.

Did anyone notice that the right side of the touchpad is a little loose? Like when you press the left to middle of it, there is not give to it, unless you click. However, the right side will give a little when you touch it or move the mouse around with it. I noticed only one person complain about a similar issue on a review on Amazon, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed this problem.
-
So does NP940X3G have noisy spacebar like Series 9 laptops had?
I could get NP940X3G with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD for 1000. Is that good deal? I bought 900X3C last week for 850 and planning to maybe return it because of the annoying noisy spacebar. Love the matte screen on that though. -
I have a 900x3c and a 940x3G in front of me and I'd say that the keys make about the same amount of noise. I would actually say that the keys on the 900x3c may be slightly quieter.

Hi All,
I recently purchased a Book 9 plus and am loving it. However somehow I seem to have messed with the touchpad settings. I can no longer use two finger scroll on webpages, documents etc and the swipe gestures to bring up the charms and the most recent application do not work either.
I cannot find any samsung drivers, nor can I locate the 'device settings' tab in the mouse section of the control panel.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers. -

If you don't have a Touchpad option in Control Panel then reinstall the Elan touchpad driver.
You can get this using SW Update.
John -
That has done the trick. Thanks for your help John.

Just a heads up, the NP940X3G-K05US is on sale again at the microsoft store for $1599.00:
Buy Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus NP940X3G-K05US Touchscreen Ultrabook - Microsoft Store
Just picked one up. Wooot! -
Same here, it was out of stock for like a week or so. As soon as I saw it back in stock, I immediately bought one. Cheaper than other stores, and no bloats.
-
Thanks for the update on that one. Our customer wants to wait until the Toshiba HG6 SSD's in M.2 format are available, which to answer your other question, shouldn't be much longer now.
-
Have you ever used SW Update program? i think you have to update the latest touchpad driver by SWUpdate program!
hope it would work out. -
Will these be obtainable for purchase anywhere? From what I have seen drives like this are only provided to computer manufacturers.
Would love to be able to buy one on amazon or something. -
has anyone successfully downgraded to windows 7?
-
Has anyone tried the new leaked Windows 8.1 update 1? It apparently has improved hi-dpi support with custom scaling options.
How to download and install Windows 8.1 Update 1 for free (right now) | ExtremeTech -
I was really hoping someone would give me some insight on this, I want to figure out if this is normal or an issue before my return/exchange period is up. Thanks.
-
I just had a look at mine, and if I press lightly on the left side it makes a small click whereas on the right side it doesn't. I hadn't even noticed this until I read your post, so I wouldn't consider it a fault. It definitely doesn't have any give when moving the mouse cursor around.
If yours is serious enough to be annoying, get it exchanged! -
Is 1600x900 as sharp with this screen as it's with screen that has 1600x900 native? Since 1600x900 is half from 3200x1800 I would think it would look as good as native or am I wrong?
Has anyone compared the glossiness of this screen vs the new Macbook Pro retina? From the pictures it looks like Samsung is more glossy. -
Sometimes we can get an allocation of an OEM product if we buy a large enough quantity (like we've done with Samsung XP941 PCIe SSD). Rumour has it that Toshiba are going to have an M.2 SSD solution out soon for the general retail channel, so if we can't get the HG6, then there may be another option which will be more readily available. I'm speculating here, but if they do release an M.2 SSD to the general retail channel, it's probably going to be based on the HG6 with some consumer-friendly software tools.Step666 likes this.

I was wondering if anyone has a fix for this issue.
In Internet Explorer, everything scales beautifully on this laptop, except for the favicons. Here's an example of how it looks for me. Notice that the icons are much smaller than the text; at normal size this makes them very hard to see.
Has anyone had the same issue, and perhaps found a fix? -
ive been using this laptop for a few weeks and it kills my eyes looking at the screen. im on 1600x900 resolution with no scaling/zoom and using windows 8.1. this was never an issue with my previously laptop (asus zenbook ux31a) on 1600x900 with windows 7. is windows 8 to blame or is it the samsung screen?
-
So far, loving the new laptop! Only problem is the mustard yellows- I downloaded the samsung link and installed the stuff there which seemed to fix the yellows, but only when not plugged in. Is there something more specific I need to tweak to get the yellows to display better?
-
Open Samsung's Settings utility (desktop app, preinstalled), go to Display, then Display Color tab, then uncheck "Auto Display Mode Management" box.
-
Hmm, I dont have that option. Using the 2.2.0.11 version of the settings package.
-
Users with Windows 8.1, is it better than with 8.0?
I tried upgrading in november/december, but ended up degrading because of compatibility issues with Samsung drivers (touch pad gestures would reset after startup, scaling was malfunctioning). Are these compatibility issues resolved and is upgrading worth it?
(Right now I'm going with 1900x1080 because of Windows 8's primitive scaling functions, so I really want to upgrade to make full use of my resolution - but if the experience with 8.1 will be as it was the last time, I'd rather stay with Windows 8.) -
I am considering purchasing the Samsung ATIV Book 9 NP940X3G-K04US. I've consulted with my IT guy and he claimed that the CPU speed was unsatisfactory for that price range. Do any of you own this model and are you satisfied with the performance? In hindsight, would you purchase this laptop if you had to reconsider the choice today?
Thanks in advance,

Samsung's US versions of this notebook appear to come in two basic configurations: (a) i5-4200U CPU + 4GB RAM + 128GB SSD and (b) i7-4500U CPU + 8GB RAM + 256GB SSD. Unless your needs are quite limited the 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD will be unwanted constraints but this hardware is available at an attractive price (eg here) As with many products, the price differential for the better version is more than the incremental cost of the parts but Intel charge a lot more for an i7 CPU than for an i5 but the performance difference won't be noticeable in everyday usage. As with buying a car, getting a version with the features you want also involves paying for the features you don't want.
If you don't want touchscreen then the NP900X3G (details here) might be of interest and it should be less expensive, once it shows up (the eta is unknown at the moment).

What does he suggest as an alternative? I'm sure we could find an issue with it, nothing's perfect. It really depends on what you're running. If you do a lot of CAD, database/development, video editing work then you may find the ultrabook category (which uses lower-voltage CPUs) as a whole lacking. Otherwise, I doubt you'll notice any slowdown, even with the i5. The biggest concern with this model is the high-res glossy touch screen which can be difficult to use for some applications/environments.
