You will need a good quality screwdriver suitable for the screws. I can't remember whether this notebook also needs a spudger (prying tool) to help get the bottom off. That info should be somewhere.

Can someone direct me to where I can get a BIOS dump for the NP770Z7E?
I want to flash my bios with a MiniPRO. I have the Black Screen at startup, I can't get to Windows, I don't have the recovery anymore and I can't boot from any device because I always only get the Windows Boot Manager option. It's corrupted bios stuff.
Can anyone help me with finding a bios dump for it?
Thanks. -
Carefully follow the steps in this guide (and the discussion in that thread). It includes links to our BIOS rollback thread, where member @isosunrise explains how to locate, download and extract BIOS update files for any Samsung model (can be done on any computer). Inside that BIOS update file is a dump of your BIOS. But you probably won't need that if you use the steps in that guide to clear the corrupted NVRAM.toughasnails likes this. -

Thanks for your help!
Edit: Ok, I read some more, and I saw that it doesn't actually flash the bios, so I ran the command and now I can boot from everything from the BIOS
Edit2: I found out the last update ID if anybody needs it, for the NP770Z7E: ITEM_20131114_21265_WIN_P04ABZ.exeLast edited: Dec 28, 2016Dannemand likes this. -

I can't install any graphics drivers at all on Windows 8.1 and neither on Win 10. Does this mean my graphics chip is fried?
This all started with a BSOD when I was playing... Everytime I manage to install some graphics drivers, I get BSOD and can never boot to Windows again... -

I have now reinstalled/upgraded the AMD driver, as mentioned in this forum: clean install of Crimson 16.7.2 then update via AMD installer [used recommended driver and AMD display driver is now version 21.19.384.1]. The power consumption and battery life have improved, but I have noticed that the display adapter is now listed as R9 M200X instead of HD 8800M and the Radeon settings state under Display that 'no displays are currently connected...' This doesn't seem right..?Last edited: Dec 29, 2016 -
R9 M200X is yhe new name AMD gave to this vga.
Run a 3dmark and see hows your score, that way you'll know if the amd vga is running.

Greetings and happy new year. Just a general question. My computer keeps nagging me about new radeon drivers.... ive had issues in the past, with brightness, switchabe graphics, etc... is it safe to run these updates now? Anyone have the latest on their notebook, any issues?
-
I'm on the 880z5e.
Newest 16.12.2 drivers work totally fine, but you cannot clean install them. That will cause blue screens. You need to install something much older (16.4 or so) and update/install over top.
You'll lose brightness whenever you upgrade the intel driver, but the registry fix works for that.
Switchable graphics works alright, but in latest few iterations resume from sleep sometimes will keep the GPU locked on and consuming power. -

Please can anyone help me with bios file version P06ABU or P05ABU my mail Is [email protected] thanks had issues after upgrading to P07ABU thanks
-
We have an entire thread dedicated rolling back BIOS versions. Member @isosunrise opened that thread with this guide where he describes how to find, download and extract BIOS update files.
The latest ABU BIOS contained in the list he posted is P02ABU, which is quite old -- but you can download it using this link.
To find later versions, you will have to use the utility posted by member @osfrolov in post #151 of that thread. There is guidance on its use in the last few pages of the thread.
Of course, if somebody from this thread have the P07ABU file and can send it to you, that is indeed much easier. But for anyone who sees this, the guidance in the rollback thread is general and applies to all Samsung models and all BIOS versions.toughasnails and kemi like this. -

@Worzyl
I don't have the registry fix but you can try restoring functionality by going to Device Manager -> Display Adapters -> Intel HD 4000. You need to select the second update option (Search your computer...) and then Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. There you choose Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and you should get your brightness back.Last edited: Jan 20, 2017 -
I then noticed that there was an option to reinstall the Intel HD 4000 version 9.17.10.2875 [17/10/2012]
That also worked.
That i5 machine is now running windows 8.1 with lovely fixed brightness! Thank you very much!
Does this driver version work with windows 10? -
Sharing my experiences in fixing the high power consumption in Windows 10 (model: ATIV BOOK 8, NP880Z5E)
1. Using stock drivers (install through Software Updater), the idle power consumption is 8-9W (in Windows 8.1) and 13-14W (in Windows 10)
2. Install video drivers downloaded from AMD and Intel website in the following order:
- AMD Crimson Graphic Driver 16.4.2 (older one will be okay, according to some posts earlier in this thread).
- Intel Graphic Driver 15.33.43.64.4425 (the latest from Intel website).
- AMD Crimson Graphic Driver 16.12.2 (the latest from AMD website).
The idle power consumption dropped to 7.5-8W in Windows 10, i.e. even a bit lower than that in Windows 8.1
3. However, after resuming from standby, the idle power consumption increased back to 13-14W. The workaround is to disable and then re-enable AMD graphic driver from Device Manager, the power consumption becomes normal again (7.5-8W).
Later, I will write a batch file that disable-enable graphic driver and post it here.har3inger and John Ratsey like this. -
Thanks for the advice but I have been unable to solve it from the thread instructions posted by @isosunrise so if anybody has P06ABU Can send me the file because P07ABU is not compatible with Windows 10 thanks

Guys, my chronos (W10) started to crash suddenly and at the reboot there's a message of hw settings restored (generated by AMD report program). More, I can't install Windows 10 anniversary update, it goes till 98 or 100 and then it says update canceled, rolling back...
Do you have any clue? -
So i turned my laptop on today, and its dark, and i lost brightness control again. I am sure a prior answer to this is buried in this thread mutiple times, but i already did the registry change nted here from a prior fix:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...n/b5e39974-c2a3-4e16-b8bf-0d64ab98ea2d?auth=1
It was already set to the value it suggests. Any suggestions how i can get this working again? -
Hi. I have the matte black version of the ATIV Book 8. the 4 metal squares that hold the caps lock key are missing. Should I replace my keyboard entirely? If so, where can I get the parts, and how can I replace the keyboard?

Which touchpad drivers are people using for this laptop? My brother recently got a new Windows 10 laptop and one of the included features is the ability to four finger swipe left and right to change Desktops via Task View. Right now I am using Windows 10 but am only able to four finger swipe up to hide all open windows and get a view of the present desktop but I would also love to be able to use left and right gestures to change between Desktops.
I cannot see any option in the Touchpad Settings to enable this so I was wondering if this would be possible to add these options/features by installing a different driver?
Does anyone have any experience with this? -
Easiest way to automate this is to have a .bat, and have a scheduled task that runs upon log-in that automatically runs the bat script.
What have been your experiences using intel wireless display (wireless link to a TV, a feature on the HD 4000) with the generic drivers? I've noticed I can't get it to work properly unless I use the Samsung intel driver. -
That being said, if it helps you I just booted a NP770z spare motherboard I have, and it uses P03ABU. -
Having issues with my NP780Z5E updating to the latest Win 10 Anniversary edition. For months it gets to a point in the update of "71%" and then freezes. I have to shut down and recover previous version. Forces updates over and over, annoying. Current Win 10 runs, with exception of the display brightness issues. Aside from adding an SD drive, i have not done anything different to system.
Chat with Samsung support and the rep says that the NP780Z5E is not compatible with Win 10? Is anyone else having this update issue or heard that from Samsung?
Thanks! -
John Ratsey Moderately inquisitive Super Moderator
One reason for possible problems is that this update is enormous (effectively a new OS) and needs a lot of space on the storage drive as it also makes a backup of the previous Win 10. I wonder whether it gets so far and then discovers that there's no spare space to carry on.

It's great to see that the previous fix helped you, however there's an even better fix if above method doesn't work. Also, Microsoft's Basic Display Adapter driver limits some graphic card's funcionalities which I didn't know at the time. Below you can follow the steps to solve brigtness problems when Intel's HD 4000 drivers get updated.
1) Backup your registry if you wish!
2) Open regedit.exe with admin rights in Run Command (search toolbar in win10)
3) Find value [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0001] "FeatureTestControl"= ''Edit DWORD 32bit'' = f000
4) Change that value to f008
5) Restart your laptop and option to change brightness should be fully working.
It might look harder for some people but it should work and it's a quick and reliable fix. I believe somebody already posted it before but people might have missed it.Worzyl likes this. -
Hi,
do you still use samsung software update for drivers? (i dont think is updated..)
I have done a format and I've installed Ati driver and wireless driver from official site.
I don't now if i should install intel driver from official website. The one I have its from windows update.
Everithing works perfectly now (brightness control too). I would like to have everything updated but I wouldnt like to have some problems.

Hello all. I owned a Samsung book 6 since 2014. The computer was awesome and I loved it. Unfortunately the powerport broke. I paid over $100 for a local shop to solder a new one into the motherboard. It didn't fix anything. Rather than pour more money into it I just decided to buy a new comp. since I work online, getting something with a very similar overall feel and layout was essential. Started looking at new book 9 but noticed they pretty much neutered that computer. Took away the 1 TB HD and the numpad. Lower processor speed and removed add on ram slot. All of these Combined I knew I couldn't get the book 9. Thought about a note 7 spin but ultimately noticed that the book 8 was in the same chassis as the 6 with comparable stats. So I ended up buying a brand new book 8 880. I know buying old comp is never recommended but it had everything I wanted and it should feel the same as my book 6 which is very important to me. What kind of isssues will I run into with the setup of a new old comp? I assume it will have windows 8? The one problem I had with my old 6 was that windows 10 update would always freeze and force itself on me at bad times. Should I leave it at 8? Would it be worth upgrading if I have to pay for it? Is the free upgrade still available? I got a sata cable to recover data on my old hd. Any tips for this? Never done this before. Can I just use that hd as a backup going forward then? What can I do with my book 6? Sell for parts? It needs new motherboard now and I'd like to keep the hard drive but perhaps I could part out other things? Maybe I could get my data off the old drive, wipe it, then sell. Is there anyway to set up a pure administrator account on the new book 8? I don't know a ton about computers but I am extremely picky about my set up. I spent years getting my book 6 the way I wanted and was always having to fight one thing or another. Usually windows tried to pull some crap. I also got a Kingston 8 gb add on ram. Will probably wait till everything is up and running smoothly before I throw it in. Anything I need to know about this. Never done it before.

Today I replaced my NP880Z5E's broken German keyboard with a new English one. You need to replace the keyboard with C-shell (not only because the layouts are different, but also because the keyboard is hard attached to the C-shell, i.e. palm rest). I bought this combo from taobao.com for almost 20$.
The procedure is follow (also see attached image for screws and connectors location):
- Remote the bottom case (D-shell, not shown in the attached image) by unscrewing 11 screws at bottom.
- Remove the battery (screws b5-b8 and connector x1 in the attached image).
- Remove hard driver (screws c7, c8, d1, d2 and connector x4).
- Remove speakers connectors (x2 and x3).
- Remove the keyboard, touchpad and backlight connectors (x5, x6 and x7). You need to rotate the plastic black keys by 90 degree before disconnect these cables.
- Remove the Wifi card (screw d1)
- Remote the left connector board (screws d3-d7).
- Remove the screws fixing screen hinger (c1-c6).
- Remove the combo mainboard+fan+heatsink (screws e1-e8)
- Lift up the the combo mainboard+fan+heatsink, accurately remove the broken C-shell with keyboard and install the new one.
That's all. In the process, you don't need to unscrew/disconnect other screws nor connectors.
Update 1: Added a picture of the lifted mainboard+heatsink.Attached Files:

Hello guys,
some days ago my gpu dead 8870m and i need change the motherboard for fix my notebook the problem is that i cant find a motherboard with same serial BA92-12082B. Any know if is posible change for another model or if another model is compatible how np780 or np880.
best regards. -
Update: OK. It seems that I have found a workaround to reduce power consumption with faulty GPU: you need to make "double start" of the computer. First, start it and Ctrl+Alt+Del (or click on Restart button at Windows login screen, or F2 to go to BIOS setting and restart, or what so ever) to the second "hot" restart. The power consumption dropped to 11-11.5W, the only complain is that after resuming from standby the power consumption strikes to ~15W again.
I guess that at the first (cold) startup the BIOS will determine the faulty GPU, and at the second (hot) (re-)start it will disable that faulty GPU.Last edited: Apr 22, 2017 -

Any ideas how to trouble shoot where it is failing? -
Maybe clean with cclenaer and try again. -
So try F001, F008 and F048. One of them should work -

Mine dedicated graphic card is gone, so I unlock it's BIOS to find the way to disable the ATI GPU. After disabling it, the power consumption at 50% brightness setting go to as low as 7.7W, meaning about 10 hours. In short, the process is as follows:
1. Modding the BIOS:
- Extract your current BIOS;
- Make all hidden settings visible.
- Flash the modded BIOS
The instruction is available here: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thr...-MSI-BIOS-to-unlock-full-features-UEFI-Aptio4 .
2. Disable ATI GPU
Go to unlocked BIOS and set the followings:
a) Chipset -> System Agent (SA) Configuration -> Graphic Control → Primary display: IGFX
b) Chipset -> System Agent (SA) Configuration -> NB PCIe Configuration -> Enable PEG: Disabled -
I just ordered a ATIV Book 6 15.6in. TouchScreen 1TB, Intel Core i7 3rd Gen., 2.4GHz, 8GB, NP680Z5E-X01US off eBay for $400. In mint shape in the ad... I will see when it gets here in a few days. This is my 5th Samsung notebook over the years and I loved them all.
Quick question. The 8GB memory from factory, is that soldered in? The user manual only shows one memory slot and that is kind of unusual as most laptops have at least two memory slots.
I will be visiting here a quite a bit once the laptop gets here as first thing besides adding 8GB memory and a 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 250GB SSD, I want to install Win 10. I'm hoping there is that info in these post too. I look for them.
Oh, in case any of you are wondering, the Lenovo in my sig & avatar quit working on me, can't seem to fix it after several months, so finally gave up. Thought it was a bad MB, got a new one and that wasn't it. Very expensive brick.Last edited: Jun 25, 2017 -
Usually these type laptops have 4 soldered in and one 4 GB sodimm. So using a 8gb sodimm you end up with a total of 12gb ram.
jack53 likes this. -
That was the case with my Ultra book too. I forgot about that. Well, I guess 12GB should be enough ram. The only thing holding this laptop I ordered back is the 5400rpm HD and the 8GB ram. It should scream when I'm done as it has the i7 and dedicated GPU too.
