Yes. Don't want to sound picky but you should wrote on the first page which version of Windows do you use.
I have huge problems with ATI drivers and I'm thinking of reinstalling the Windows / carrying laptop to repair.
It's driving me crazy. Not to mention how lame ATI drivers are. If you choose "express" or "custom" there is basically no difference.
- Can't install 13.6 because it freezes - detecting hardware, bla, bla, bla.
- Have reinstalled 13.5 b33333333 but now even those don't work. When wanted to launch Catalyst Center it keep saying that one of .dlls can't be found.
I have over my head of ATI drivers and also started to believing that purchasing of this laptop was mistake.... So many problems to install new drivers. Crazy.

So i checked once again with MSI Afterburner and the card is clocking high but still low FPS.
I have made images of SW Update driver ingame GW2, 13.6b2 GW2 menu and 13.6b2 GW2 ingame so you can see yourself that it drops from 60 to now 20(windowed).
I have no clue what is causing this but it's annoying.
Any ideas what i might do?
@CubaLibre: Although they don't work properly they are installed flawless in my case.

Hi all,
I had a look through couldnt see the answer to this but please redirect me if necessary. I am a bit of a noob.
Is there a benefit to upgrading the ram to 2 x corsair vengeance 8gb 1866 ddr3 or is there a more optimal ram upgrade from the standard 8gb?
thanks -
I guess there would rather be a benefit by changing the hdd with a ssd as some did already and if you don't need 16 gb of ram memory you will most probably not feel any difference.
-
I've managed to install 13.5b3 after several tries (harakiri). It kept saying to me after I've installed Catalyst that some dlls were missing and couldn't run Catalyst Center. At the end I didn't remvoe drivers through Device Manager and used Driver Fusion (cleaning drivers) but un-install them with ATI Install Manager and installed again.
Dunno why (lucky you) nobody else has the same issues. Maybe there went something wrong when Windows were installed although I believe restore was made - when changing disks. I have Win 8 Pro but all stores here sell this laptop with "Standard".
I will most probably wait for stable release of ATI drivers and reinstall whole system.
At lest digital HDMI appeared back to my playback devices but it keep saying me that nothing is plugged. Maybe newer version of ATI drivers is fixing this but install keep "freezes" on "detecting hardware". The only option is manual install through Device Manager.
I'm thinking that I won't install any Samsung apps when doing system reinstall.
System register is probably a mess now. Today I've made at least few tries (driver installs). I'm quite disappointed with ATI drivers so far.
Thanks!
Best regards -

Yes, I think you're right. It's working now, but can't install 13.6. I will most probably write an email to ATI support and restore/clean install Windows. Do you get any restore disc inside laptop's box? I didn't get any.

Went with system reinstall, kept only personal files. Problems with drivers took me too much time already, which I should spent learning for finishing last study course.
However, luckily now ATI Catalyst 13.6.b2 drivers work!I was thinking if I should install all of the Samsung drivers and SW or not. But I've read on Intel page, somewhere, that they recommend using manufactures drivers not generic. Since system didn't find dedicated card I've installed Samsung device for ATI (probably not necessary). Was thinking of leaving vanilla drivers on computer but some inner voice told me that I should at least try installing 13.6.b2.
They've uninstalled previous one and installed new one perfectly (no warnings!). Guess I've made some mistake when I did first install of Catalyst drivers or something went wrong. Now I can see them (drivers) in Catalyst Center under System info.
Hallelujah!!!
Hope this will work for some time. When I have some time I will install few games to compare the benchmark.
Thanks guys for all the tips. I've started to thinking that purchasing Asus would be better idea.

Glad you finally got it working CubaLibre

I'm having terrible wifi issues while gaming.. frequent lags/freezes/disconnections... I know I should use the cable, but this doesn't mean that wifi can stop working whenever he wants to, forcing me to restart it more than once to get it to work again.. I have the latest wifi drivers that SW update shows... any ideas??? It's really pi...ing me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't touched the wifi drivers since I got it. And I never had a disconnection

Hey all =D
New proud and, so far, happy owner of a Samsung 77Z5E-S0SE, 8GB RAM, i7-3635, AMD HD 8870M, 256GB mSATA LiteOnIt LMT-256M3M lappy. I had to jump in here to say that I have learned a lot from all of you and wanted to extend my gratitude to you all for making my choice easy ; despite the other standard poor reviews(trackpad, backlight, intuitive dimming etc) we have seen about this pc.
I have to tell you...this machine is lightning on astroglide! It's amazing. Granted the stock mSATA that came with it here in Norway did most of the work, but DANG! One of the few things I would like to know is ; if, as is the case here, this machine is equiped with an mSATA SSD drive (and it being possible at all to change out for a 512 or even 1024 in the future) how tricky would that be in reference to possible messing up something else in the process?
As has already been mentioned, this model comes with 4GB soldered and 4 in the slot so max available as is, is 12GB but that won't necessarily give that much of a perf boost. Esp with an SSD if using a pagefile...or so I have come to understand.
In any case, I would recommend this lappy to anyone who could afford it, who is not in need of "inhouse" capacity (I myself just use usb3 external drives) So THANK YOU NoteBookReview for making my choice the easiest I have made in years.

Where is the original driver for the AMD Radeon graphics card? I'm having trouble with the 13.6 beta and I'd like to roll back.
-
-
13.6 b2 is not the one given by Samsung, so i think that's the reason why the problem caused by,, -
All right, I'm completely at wit's end -- to the point of returning the laptop and not getting another!
I'm a new owner of a 780Z5E. After spending 8+ hours installing all of the drivers, fiddling with Catalyst so that I can actually use the graphics card that came with it, I still haven't been able to fix the intermittent wifi problems. It'll turn on and off randomly, and when I try to run the diagnostics, it'll say that "Wireless service is not running on this computer" -- what? Obviously it's a driver or hardware problem of some sort, since I'm writing this from my desktop. I've tried the 15.6 and 15.8 drivers, nothing has worked for more than a few minutes.
Help -
Yeah, can't describe how happy I am.
Btw, have you noticed any significant performance impact when using ATI Catalyst drivers not the one provided by Samsung?
If anyone will be reinstalling Windows 8 here is some info.
You just need Windows 8 iso. I've got mine from MSDN site (Dreamspark is now called). The product code was different than those I had installed in the first place (when I've got laptop).
There is no need to insert any code or something. Just run the installer and Windows will do everything for you. So if you didn't get Win 8 installer disk in your box just get ISO somewhere and install the OS.
Of course you need to have original key.
Probably the best bet would be to refresh/restore Windows or do "clean" install. I've got same problems when "driver hell" occurred with installing ATI Catalyst drivers. Dunno if they had any impact on Wi-FI drivers.
I'm 99% of time connected to LAN cable so dunno if I had any problems with WI-Fi as well but I think that default should be ok.
So the problems are with ATI Catalyst drivers as well? If they can't install without error then there is smth wrong. I had to reinstall the Windows.
Some program for cleaning old drivers can help as well although it can mess thing even more. I was using Driver Fusion and after cleaning ATI drivers, sometimes problem with Intel HD appeared as well. :/ -
-
cubalibre you didn't by any chance when you were on "driver hell" used the amd removal utility? 'cause I read somewhere that it can seriously mess up windows 8...
-
-
Also, it seems to drop for 1-2 minutes then reconnect.
; Weird.
-
Is there any way to contact samsung support straight away to talk about the wifi issues? I can't buy a laptop at this price to end up going crazy all day because of some bloody problem...
-
Finally went and got myself a 32GB flash drive. Surprised at how cheap they are now, I got one of those mini drives for $25. Now all I have to do is reinstall everything...
Anyone know if you can run Steam games off an external drive, or if you have to redownload them for it to properly deploy or whatever? -
You can choose to "Backup Local Files" to create an installer for your downloaded steam games, then run that to install them on the new system (or any system where you can log in with your own steam account).

You can try and go back to the original Win8 driver. Here is the PROPER way to do that:
1) Uninstall any PROset or Samsung provided WiFi drivers using Windows Programs and features.
2) Reboot (Win8 Restart, not Shutdown).
3) In Device Manager, right-click the WiFi adapter and select Uninstall; when prompted, check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.
4) Still in Device Manager, chose Action (menu) - Scan for hardware changes.
5) Repeat steps (3) and (4) as long as you still get that Delete the driver software for this device option. That's how you cycle back and delete each of the previous driver versions you have installed. When you do NOT see that option anymore, you're back to the original Win8 driver. Don't uninstall that device (don't click OK).
6) Reboot.
But I would also say don't underestimate the role of your router settings in this, both your channel selection and other router settings. I got a recent reminder of this as described in this post.
Edit: About those Wireless Adapter Settings in your power profiles: Make sure you set those in ALL the profiles you use ( Samsung Optimized, Power Saver, High performance). AND if you ever re-install or update Settings you may have to tweak your power profiles again -- at least Samsung Optimized. -
No. I always removed AMD Catalyst driver through device manager (uninstall) and then clean them with Driver Fusion. AMD Uninstaller only worked with 13.5 (b3). When trying to uninstall with 13.6 (b2) the process get stuck at beginning (preparing) list.

Is it worth writing to Engadget or a similar site to get Samsung's attention? All these little bugs and awkward settings, with the WiFi issue and drivers being finicky....
-
when will series 7 with 8870m released in us....
-
Also, does anyone experience randomly loud crazy noises? Mine makes this weird loud noise sometimes after I do gaming. Kinda high pitched, it sounds like the hard drive. Spin-ish sounding.
-
@cefx: I had these crazy noises too, short after purchase. When watching some videos on Youtube or other streaming sites using Flash it was screeching really ugly. I updated Flash and the audio driver(just search for Realtek HD Audio Driver, current version is R2.71).
I don't know anymore if simply updating Flash solved the problem but i don't think so because i wouldn't have updated the audio driver without a reason.
Maybe give it a try, didn't have anything appearing like that since then. -
-
Where can I find the step-by-step guide for installing the drivers for the Radeon? I don't want to mess it up like I did the first time.

I've notice yesterday that some of mine energy saving settings were reseted after computer restart (showing configuring and cleaning Windows notification). I have most of my time computer plugged and so I've selected that when lid is closed - "do nothing" (doesn't go to sleep).
But yesterday I've closed the lid and computer went to sleep, although it shouldn't. Then I've noticed that this option was reseted.
We should report all issues to Samsung/AMD. I will write an email concerning the Catalyst drivers.
Br
So far NVidia is much better. -
Are there other colors for the ATIV 8? I'm sorry I posted the same question a couple of weeks ago but I really have to know before purchasing one.
We only have the black one and even our Samsung guys have no idea if there are others.
Thanks -
ATIV book 8 HasWell is coming (we assume) at the June 20th Samsung event. To my
Knowledge clear specs of the refresh models do not exist -
Hi all..
I installed latest drivers from ELAN available here: ELANTECH Drivers (Version 11.14.1.3)
It seems the touchpad is working a bit better.
Edit: bad news, tapping with two fingers is not an option here.. -
Hey guys, here's what I noticed today:
if my friend's on his laptop, connected to the wifi, and he's connected to a server and playing counter strike, and I want to join, I'm going to have a bad time.
Connection's not working at all! Even switching the antenna off/on doesn't fix the problem, there's no way I can get in! Or even connect to the wifi and, say, browse to the router's settings page!
Earlier today, I played css with no issues at all (NO DISCONNECTIONS!!) while his laptop was off.
By playing around with some settings for the wifi, I managed to find a workaround: by changing the IP address to a different value (I assume it's a static IP now).
After that, I was able to connect to steam, join my friend and play for liek 15 mins with no issues (expect some slowdowns, due probably to using the wifi connection instead of the LAN)
Do you think these things have anything to do with each other? Could it have been an IP conflict between the machines??
Sorry for the confusion in this post, hope someone will understand my point xD -
Hi guys,
I followed the instructions for updating to the recommended driver amd_catalyst_13.5_mobility_beta3 from the 1st post in this thread.
I've been lurking these forums for a month and decided to go for it at last.
However, I lost control over brightness.
This was my first fiddling with Catalyst and I did exactly as was said under post 1.
PLEASE - what should I do, re-install Intel 4000? Where would I do that?
Edit: uninstalled Intel HD 4000 under device manager and installed again from SW update. Brightness back on track. Now looking forward for Neverwinter to patch so I can enjoy the hopefully improved FPS. Fingers crossed.
Edit2: huge FPS boost, ty Pranktank and the rest of you that contributes to this thread -
@Obyboby: Did you try any of the suggestions I posted for you here yesterday to address WiFI issues? Or the original post with WiFi resolutions here.
If you've tried a lot of driver updating, I think the rollback procedure I describe (which also flushes out issues with adapter's registry entry) is worth a shot. -
Well, as everyone has reported, Acronis TI 2013 does not enable access to the recovery partition via F4, however since I could not use recovery to copy the 1TB drive to my 500GB M4, I had not choice. I did however, back up the recovery image and it is sitting on my C: drive. It contains, amongst some png's, a 15GB image file called install.wim and a file called WinClonInit.srs. The recovery partition is still there but no access to it. I have the 5400rpm drive that I can connect to a USB-SATA cable and boot from it if needed. I just want to figure out how to get the recovery image functional.
At the end of the day, if it is not possible, I am not too concerned since Windows 8 has the reset option. It's just the OCD part of me wanting everything the way it was but on the SSD.
Thanks! -
Hello, I've just got my new NP880Z5e and while i am impressed by the screen and performance one issue concerns me. The dealbraker for me to choose this model was its spectacular battery life, however, my laptop is not even close to the review scores. According to various tests laptop should keep on going for about 8 hours. The one of mine does something close to 4 hours of web browsing being on Samsung Optimized mode. I am wondering if this is my exaggeration or did I get a flawed entity.
