Did they tell you this personally? Show me the video/press release/article and I'll believe it. But sorry, seems like wishful thinking and not an actual statement from the company.

They said this in 2 videos
Look, it's clear that it's Coming out. No one but you doubts this. If you ask Samsung they'll say that it's coming out. If you look at any of their press info it says the same.
I'm not going to find the videos again. I posted them in the other thread a few months ago, you can go through my posts if you want.

Hey spybenj you're getting me wrong. I wanted to see proof of this, till finding the video I just posted I didn't see any. And I specifically asked to see this proof and you replying with "just trust me it is confirmed" wasn't what I was after. Don't need to get all offended.

    You aren't listening to me.
I posted the links to two videos where Samsung confirmed the release. I'm not willing to go through my 800+ posts to find them though, so if you want to be my guest.
I never said "just trust me it is confirmed".

Mine did have this, but I can assure you that the blue paint is just a "thread locking" glue that is used to make sure screws don't become loose. It's on most electrical devices as a measure to make sure it stays securely fastened. This is not a warranty seal. Also, according to several early posts on this topic. swapping the drive won't void the warranty - unless, of course, you physically damage the laptop in the process.

Thanks man. Deleting history and cookies seems to have fixed it (ty pranktank). But if it acts up again, I'll try uninstalling that.

    Cool I'll try that too.

Deleting cookies works too? I did not need to remove that which I find convenient. Deleting cache doesn't make a difference to me except for fixing the issue while deleting cookies is kind of annoying since that makes me have to reconfigure things.

Just picked up my new Chronos 7 from BestBuy. I'd thought about it and thought about it and finally decided to pull the trigger. I'm a software dev and thought it was worth the price to have the power of the quad core i7 and the great screen which will pair nicely with my external Asus 24" monitor. I plan to try things with the HDD to see if it's fast enough as is before swapping out the drive for a SSD. I look forward to picking up good info from this site. One thing I'm curious about is that I've heard it's best to uninstall the IntelliMemory software to speed up performance. Are people agreed on that or is there a possible reason to leave it on the system?

    Thanks, Mark

Spoiler alert: It's not. The hard drive is the single most disappointing thing about the laptop. I would consider an SSD necessary because otherwise you're kind of wasting the money you just spent to have a premium laptop.

That's true. My netbook with the cheapest SSD was faster than Chronos with HDD.
And it has a 1,6ghz single core.

And please stop those pricing ETA crap in the "owners" thread. This forum is full of such questions ...
I would like to see a thread with hardware/software/tuning/tutorials only .

All good information is flooded away

Nope, not that I know of.

According to a site that has had the 16gb version listed for a while now but on back order there is a 16gb ssd cache, but Samsung has never confirmed or denied this.

Aw yeah! I found a way to stop the GPU from throttling!
It definitely was because of power limitations. I used msi afterburner and upped the power limit. Now the gpu constantly stays at its turbo clock in game! Before it would drop constantly to 725mhz and to around 600mhz. Now it's 775mhz all the time! My GPU and CPU temps still stay well under 75 °C like before, so its not harming the card I think. I only adjusted the amount of power the GPU can draw. I did not and I wouldn't dare
changing the voltage so I suppose I'm safe.

Only problem is that sometimes a core's clock would still drop to 1,2 ghz causing the framerates to bounce around. Going to try throttlestop now and see if it fixes it. If it's power related, throttlestop won't be able to fix it I think. Let's see.

    EDIT:
A little update: throttlestop could not stop the cpu from throttling, the cpu never exceeded 68 °C so I think it's power limited or I'm not good at using throttlestop :D.

I'll test a little bit more tomorrow when I find the time. Any (throttlestop) suggestions that might stop the cpu from throttling? I already tried disabling turbo mode but that didn't help.

What's great news too is that I managed to keep the gpu utilisation above 90% at all times instead of it dipping to 64% doing this :).

It would be interesting to use a mains power meter to show how many watts the PSU is using. I'm not sure how the PSU and computer will react if you try to draw more power than the PSU is capable of delivering but, if the meter showed that the PSU is only taking 80W (for example) then there would be scope for getting the hardware to run nearer to its potential.

Oooooh, that is VERY promising. Nice pranktank! What were you running on it, btw? I'm curious if it was staying at 75 while you're really maxing out on it or not.

I don't have such a thing actually but other owners were saying that their laptop pulled 93W under load. Or do you mean how many watts mine is using when I use MSI afterburner?

Yeah I'm pretty happy myself :). I really really want to try a 120W PSU now.

Far cry 3. So the GPU definitely was under full load and constantly at its turbo clock. Most of the time the CPU was at 70°C and GPU at 68°C. When the CPU wouldn't be throttling either the temperatures will probably rise quite a bit.

I was thinking of a power meter on the mains socket. 93W is plausible - there will be some losses in the PSU so it could represent 90W delivered to the notebook. And the mains power meter would quickly show if a 120W PSU is able to deliver more power.

Wanted to clarify something for my own edification. When we talk about a bigger PSU, what is this referring to? I assume we are talking about just a bigger power brick, but I'm confused because we're limited by the internal components, no? If that's the case, doesn't this require quite extensive surgery on the computer?

Or are we hypothesizing that the brick provided by Samsung isn't providing the maximum wattage the computer can handle?

I don't want to put my laptop through surgery :p

bigger psu = more watts, same volts. if your notebook can pull more, it won't be limited by psu max wattage. if you ask me, having 85°C+ when on max load for a while makes more power pointless. it will result in overheat anyway.

    volts*ampere = watt
    watt / ampere = volts
    watt / volts = ampere

imagine a water pipe and a pump.
    volts = water pressure
ampere = pipe size which allows more water flow in total
watts = the water which comes out in a specific amount of time

Until someone can try it out, we don't know whether providing a higher capacity PSU will let the hardware perform closer to its potential. ie whether the constraint is in the PSU power output or is built into the BIOS. Most users will be more interested in ensuring smooth operation.

Anyone having trouble getting the BIOS update to install? I have the swsoftware disabled at startup, and when I ran it today it tried to install four updates. I left it for 30-45 minutes, and all the software downloaded but it hung up on the "System BIOS Update". I force-closed the program, and it just said "failed" as the status. I restarted the computer, and didn't run any other programs, and deselected the other updates. Again, it downloaded fine, but it won't install. The installation bar is alternating black and blue stripes like it's doing something, and the hard drive makes noise for a few minutes then stops.

I've installed my own hard drive, and I might have played with the settings of the BIOS in order to get the new hard drive to work.

Edit: I was able to install the three other updates with no problem (Help Desk, Touchpad Driver, and Wireless LAN Driver), but still no go on the BIOS update.
Edit 2: I was finally able to install the BIOS update on the 6th or 7th try. I clicked on the update tab on the left-hand side instead of the general update button on the home screen.

I didn't have any trouble with the wireless driver before the update, but now it can't see my router's 5 GHz network and I have to restart the adapter each time I restart the computer because it says limited connectivity. I'm sitting about 7 feet away from the router in the same room with no obstacles so range shouldn't be the issue.

And anyone have any updates on official driver support for the ATI 8770m graphics card? This is getting silly since I've had the computer almost two months. I wrote to ATI support when I first got the computer, but they just said Samsung needed to issue the drivers.

You need to ask Samsung. ATI are responsible for the core driver but Samsung need to make sure that it interfaces correctly with the system hardware, including the graphics switching.

OK, I'm stumped. I hooked up my external dvd player and tried to play a movie on my Chronos and couldn't find a way to play one. Right clicking the dvd in Window's Explorer didn't give the Play option you would normally see. There was an Open AutoPlay option but clicking that did nothing. Running Media Player didn't help as it never seemed to see the dvd. I launched CyberLink PowerDVD which comes preinstalled but it says it doesn't support movie disk playback unless you upgrade to the paid version for $79!

Any ideas on how to watch movies on this thing?

I think Windows 8 didn't come with DVD codecs because Microsoft didn't want to pay licensing fees. You'll have to get VLC or a comparable player as pranktank suggested.

You do not need PowerDVD if you install Media Player Classic or VLC. Uninstall PowerDVD, restart, then download and install MPC or VLC.
