Ok guys, I'm happy to announce that I joined the SSD-wagon :D. I went with the 500GB EVO and everything went smoothly, getting the bottom off wasn't so hard but it was stressful. I used a couple of guitar picks to pry around, really useful. Right now I'm in the process of reinstalling stuff (I went with a fresh start) and I have one little detail. Windows says it can't activate using the key that it detects automatically because it already exceeded the amount of activations. Is there an easy way to solve this or am I going to have to call Microsoft or something like that?

Well done. Sounds like a good job there on the swap.

And wow, that's annoying if Microsoft only allows you to activate a limited number of times on the same machine. I assume you installed the same version of Win8 as the original one (Pro vs non-Pro and same language)?

All I can think of is, if the install media you used is a customized installation with a Product Key baked in (other than yours). If you are able to boot and run the new installation, and if you have your original Product Key, I believe you should be able to enter it in the System control panel, then activate after that.

Otherwise, I would just give Microsoft a call. You own the license for that machine!

I'm pretty sure the ISO I used was a "clean" one, it shouldn't have anything baked in. I am currently writing from my Chronos, so everything is working but it's showing that it's not activated. It actually shows the last few digits of the Windows key it's trying to activate but it has a message saying that it reached its unlock limit. I'm not sure if I have my original PK, I haven't touched the HDD so I might be able to get it from there, but still, it should be in the BIOS or something like that, right?

Mine is Intel 6230, but I suspect it is the same driver file and version as your 6235:

    Win8 WiFi driver details.png

The INF file is netwns64.inf in Windows\INF. There is no other installation file, as it is part of Win8.

Note that merely uninstalling WiFi drivers in the Programs and Features control panel and/or deleting the adapter in Device Manager may not be enough to load this driver, as that will merely roll back to the last installed driver (which is not necessarily this one).

You have to use the exact steps described in the WiFi Remedies thread if you want to make sure.

Got it. I know that some members posted how they were able to extract their existing Product Key (such as gwrace's post here). But I don't know if it requires that Windows installation to be running whose Product Key is being extracted. It would be great if it pulls it straight from BIOS.

It was so much easier before, when the Product Key was simply printed on the Windows certificate on the bottom of the laptop (or on the charger of some models).

Please let us know what you find out.

I have had wireless problems since Day 1 of having this PC. I'm regretting not returning it now. I have followed all the steps in the post on page 1 (multiple times) and the issue keeps coming back. While I no longer get the 'limited' message on the wireless icon, it drops the connection every time I close the computer or it goes into hibernate mode and often occurs while I am working. A message appears over the wireless icon in the tray that says either 'unidentified network, no internet access' or 'connected to <my networkname> no internet access', or 'Identifying'. I have at least 6 other devices that are connecting perfectly so I don't believe it to be the router. After the PC is closed or in hibernation, when I open it back up it takes me 15-20 minutes to get the wireless working. I connect/reconnect several times, run the troubleshooter and SOMETIMES it comes back. Other times it doesn't matter what I do, it won't connect until I reboot. I have gone to the driver and and cleared the checkbox to turn off the network adapter to save power, so it's not that. When I run the network troubleshooter, I frequently get a message that says 'default gateway is unavailable'.

We bought 2 of these PCs at the same time and mine is the only one that is having this issue. Any thoughts for something else to try??

Tho good things always come with bad things etc. I got a problem in browser (in srware iron only tho - NOT in chrome or IE or fox at least not yet) when i open it, all the pages i try to load will remain black (except tabs and bookmarks areas) just the webpage area itself. Ive just got the notebook couple days ago, all drivers still stock. Any ideas?

    Hello guys,

I've been lurking this post for a few months now (april-may) because I wanted to buy this laptop. I was living in Europe but I'm currently living in the US for the year. Imagine my surprise a month ago when I found out that they don't sell the 8870M version here, just the 8770M...

I'm sorry if other users already posted this question, but I can't get back and read 200 pages... Does it makes so much difference?

I mean: I prefer much more having an 8870M/2GB rather than a 8770M/1GB, but waiting and waiting and seeing that samsung is not going to bring it here in the US makes me think about buying the 8770M version. Also, it is quite better having 8GB soldered rather than only 4...BUT there is something I am noticing when I look at the samsung.com US and UK websites is that the US version says it has 8.5 hours of battery life and the UK version (8870) has 10.5 hours of battery life.

Battery life is a very important thing for my needs of the laptop. I have been looking for a laptop with a lot of battery-time and high specs and the only one that beats them all is the samsung. When I found a good laptop - no battery life, and when I find good battery life it doesnt have those high specs... Is it really that different? I've been waiting 4-5 months for the laptop and waiting is not a problem if I knew that someday it will be sold here...

What do you guys think? Is it worth to wait or do I buy?

I have the exact same problem. I extracted my code before the fresh install so I know setup got the right code. Upon entering the code manually afterwards on the activation screen I got the same message about the code being used too much for activation.

I also had trouble installing graphics drivers. Both intel and amd. Both through sw update and downloading from the internet

UPDATE I just simply called the (free) microsoft activation number, gave in the numbers given by the activition window, gave in the numbers I recieved through the telephone and it now is activated :).
So there is no need at all to extract your code from the BIOS.

Yes that's what I did :). Maybe I should have made a new post for this little update:
I also just rebooted form installing 13.10 beta and everything works like a charm. The trick was to let windows update first, then install the hd4000 drivers through SW update, but not directly but by searching the correct model number (770Z5E in my case). I then installed mobility 13.10 from here: AMD Catalyst

Forgot to mention that. It is AWESOME. Everything is so responsive, rebooting happens in the blink of an eye. I love it and it is well worth the money. How did you install your graphics drivers?

    Hi,
I've recently bought the Samsung Ativ Book 8 870z5e. I'm really happy with this machine, but there's one thing, that is really annoying me: the hdd makes strange noises when reading/writing. I can't really describe it, but I've never experienced this noise on my other notebooks before. The hdd ist working as intended, so I don't think, it's an hardware issue.
Is anyone havin the same problem? Or should I return this laptop and order a new one?

I directly installed one of the AMD beta drivers and then reinstalled the HD4000 because I lost the ability to control brightness, but everything is working great now, I even managed (somehow) to reinstall winamp and keep my previous library just as I had it

I just read from the new catalyst driver 13.10. Is it worth trying out. I got my new chronus 770Z7 s03 two weeks ago and I was wondering if I should try it out. How do I do that? Is there a guideline? I have the radeon HD 8870m and I hope that with the new driver the radeon will be recognized and everything runs smooth like before. As of now the HD4000 will only be recognized... Thanks for your help.

Anyone know the quickest way to resume the chronos from sleep/shutting the lid. I have the default settings yet it seems to take an age to start after opening up the lid. The samsung logo shows and then it gets around to the main Windows background and then it feels like a load of apps still loading up in the background. Just so used to a Macbook where it is instant

Finally, I got my 870Z5E!! I've just received it and I already have a problem :D Well, it's Windows related, luckily... I want to shrink my C partition to create a data partition, and I'd like to divide like this: 150GB for C (OS and SW) and the rest for D. However, if I go to the disk manager, right click on the C volume and choose shrink (or reduce, I don't know, I don't have the OS in english), it tells me that I can shrink a maximum of 462GB (instead I want to shrink 750GB, more or less).
I did a defrag, but it keeps limiting me at 462GB. How can I solve this?
    Did you try this?

I had a similar problem with my new X4C.

I have a very annoying problem with external drives: I have a Western Digital MyBook 500GB, and also some 2,5" HDDs I use with an enclosure, and I use these drives for storage. I want to copy my stuff from these drives to the laptop, but when I plug them in I can't acces to them. In the bottom right corner, I see the icon to remove them safely, and I can see the drives also in the Disk Manager and the page with devices and printers, but I can't see them in Computer, so I don't have the possibility to access to them. What can I do? Windows Update and Samsung SW Update don't show any update available

The strange thing is that I have a USB key (4GB) that works well and I can use it!

EDIT: I solved myself. Apparently, when I plug in an external drive, Windows doesn't assign it a unit letter. I went in the "Disk Manager", right clicked on the external drive and assigned a unit letter myself. Now the drive works properly

AMD Catalyst Beta 13.10 isn't doing so well for me... It seems that the bug that does not trigger the 8870 GPU is happening again. Reverting back the the previous beta version solves the issue... Zzz

Hi, I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos 770Z5E which is running well now, especially with an added hybrid HDD!

    A couple of questions:

    1. I have a Dell 27" monitor that runs at 1440p. But connecting with HDMI I can only get a max of 1080p. My Mac Mini displays the max res, why not my Chronos?

    2. The damn auto-backlit keyboard. Is there anyway (yet) to turn the thing off? Silver keys, white back-light means you can't read the keys at certain angles - an insane design decision!

    Thanks guys :)

Same problem here for WoW as an example, but when it works properly you clearly see a jump in the FPS compared to previous drivers

Recently i became the owner of an Ativ book 8 NP880. However it is a nice laptop i run into 2 problems.

I can press the touchscreen bezel around the samsung bezel a bit towards the inside. Makes it feel like its not really secure. Do others have this as well?

Also my GPU throttles a bit during gaming even while putting the powerlimit on 120%. Is there a way to turn throttling off?

You may be hitting the power output limit of the 90W PSU. A few members have invested in third party 120W PSUs in order to enable their hardware to run at full speed.

Hi! Is there anyone who has the same problem? Every time I plug in an external hard disk, I have to manually assign a unit letter to it, because Windows doesn't do it automatically. Any idea on what could be causing this?

Google gives a few hits for this type of problem.

I think I also encountered it recently and fixed it by rebooting the computer with the drive already plugged in.

Also make sure that your Windows is fully updated.

I don't know how, but it does.

The answer may be in this thread which is specifically about gaming on this model (and member Pranktank was one of the first to try a 120W PSU).

Strange, I do not have this problem with any game. Are you sure that all settings are configured properly? Plugged in, silent mode off, high performance power plan, maximize performance in switchable graphics in both general and per program tabs?

I bought the ICIDU 120W universal PSU

Thanks for the information, will try it out when i found a small 120watt PSU.

Just curious but you seem to have this laptop a while already. I am searching feedback from others. Does the touchscreen feel attached and secured to you around the samsung logo at the bottom of the bezel or can you press it slightly into the body (less than millimeter)?

    Really helpful, thank you
For anyone who is looking for this in English, the setting is in Device Manager > Disk drives > Name > Policies and the setting is to turn off the write cache buffer on flushing
